[SET COMMENTS]
- Thanks to Groudon's excellent physical bulk, it soft checks numerous physical threats in the tier such as Arceus, physical variants of Arceus-Ground, Koraidon, and Zacian-C.
- 16 EVs in Speed allow Groudon to outspeed uninvested Kyogre, Giratina-O, and Landorus-T. Alternatively, a spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD can be used to maximize Groudon's bulk.
- Precipice Blades is a powerful STAB option that OHKOes Zacian-C and Miraidon and has a chance to OHKO Eternatus, whereas Earthquake is a weaker STAB option that offers greater accuracy.
- Will-O-Wisp cripples physical threats Groudon switches into such as Arceus, Koraidon, and physical variants of Arceus-Ground.
- Spikes helps chip down switch-ins for the rest of the game due to the limited distribution of hazard removal in the tier. Alternatively, Stealth Rock can be used for the same purpose but Spikes is recommended as it hits all targets neutrally.
- Groudon tends to struggle against special wallbreakers such as Miraidon and Flutter Mane, so Protect is a great option to scout for a potential Choice item and increase its Leftovers recovery. Alternatively, Bulk Up can be used to win beat physical setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Arceus formes and Koraidon.
- Leftovers is mandatory on Groudon, since it does not have any reliable recovery.
- Tera Fairy gives Groudon an immunity to Dragon-type attacks from the likes of Miraidon, Eternatus, and Koraidon.
- Tera Water lets Groudon resist Zacian-C's STAB Behemoth Blade, Calyrex-I's STAB Glacial Lance, and Koraidon's sun-boosted Fire-type attacks.
- Due to Groudon being unable to reliably check physical threats long-term, it’s best to have some form of speed control such as Choice Scarf Koraidon or a reliable wall such as Skeledirge alongside it.
- Breakers such as Miraidon and Flutter Mane really appreciate Groudon's ability to reliably set both sun, which boosts their Fire-type attacks, and Spikes, which allows them to wallbreak more effectively. Koraidon also has great synergy with Groudon as they both set sun. It also appreciates Spikes support from Groudon.
