- Earthquake / Earth Power
[SET COMMENTS]
Boasting an excellent defensive typing alongside solid physical bulk bolstered by Intimidate, Landorus-T is able to act as a blanket check to most physical attackers. Taunt allows it to deny a plethora of common status moves, such as entry hazards from Ferrothorn and Ting-Lu, recovery attempts from Toxapex and Alomomola, Defog from Zapdos and Corviknight, Toxic from Gliscor and Moltres, and setup moves from Zamazenta and Mega Scizor. Toxic is an alternative that more immediately pressures Zapdos and Moltres while also wearing down Regenerator pivots such as Tornadus-T and Alomomola that otherwise shrug off any of Landorus-T's attacks, and punishing setup attempts from the likes of Volcarona and Dragapult. Earth Power is an alternative to the standard Earthquake that deals significantly higher damage to Great Tusk and Zamazenta and also deals full damage in Grassy Terrain. Rocky Helmet is the item of choice, as it punishes weak contact moves, such as Tapu Koko and Moltres' U-turn, that are further weakened by Intimidate. The given EV spread allows Landorus-T to outspeed Great Tusk without a Protosynthesis Speed boost, with a Jolly nature if using Earthquake as the Ground-type attack and Timid if it is Earth Power.
Landorus-T's most glaring weakness is its lack of recovery, and thus fits best on more offensive teams that can more effectively take advantage of its limited turns while also appreciating Landorus-T's ability to easily handle Mega Lopunny and Zamazenta, which otherwise threaten most offensive structures. Teammates that can set up entry hazards such as Hisuian Samurott, Ferrothorn, and Toxapex appreciate Landorus-T utilizing Taunt to prevent most Defog users from removing their hazards. Landorus-T's ability to pivot via U-turn is greatly appreciated by frailer Pokemon such as Mega Medicham, Iron Valiant, and Dragapult that otherwise struggle to safely enter the field. Another weakness of Landorus-T is its lackluster special bulk, which can be mitigated by teammates such as Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Mega Scizor. These teammates also cover Landorus-T's type weaknesses, the former two covering its weakness to Water-type attacks from the likes of Urshifu-R and Ogerpon-W, while the latter two resist Ice-type attacks from foes such as Weavile and Kyurem.
