Rest lets Primarina make up for its lack of reliable recovery and is mandatory to check threats like Crawdaunt and Infernape reliably throughout the match. Sleep Talk ensures Primarina is neither passive nor setup fodder while asleep, letting it potentially punish setup sweepers like Terrakion and Cobalion that can otherwise beat it if it is asleep.

Set Details
========

Thanks to Primarina's naturally good special bulk, it can already take on special attackers like Hydreigon and Lucario well, so 252 Defense EVs in conjunction with a Bold nature let Primarina be as physically bulky as possible to handle physical attackers like Infernape and Krookodile. Leftovers not only provides Primarina with passive recovery, which allows Primarina to remain healthy, but also lets it switch into U-turn users like Infernape and Hydreigon more reliably, as it potentially negates U-turn's damage. Torrent's power boost can come in handy against Pokemon like Terrakion and Infernape that Primarina can't reliably OHKO otherwise.

Usage Tips
========

Switch Primarina into Pokemon whose STAB moves it resists, including Crawdaunt, Mega Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Kyurem, and Infernape. Be wary of switching Primarina into Pokemon such as Volcanion and Haxorus, though; even though Primarina resists their STAB moves, they are likely to carry super effective coverage in Sludge Bomb and Poison Jab, respectively. However, in Dragon Dance Haxorus's case, a healthy Primarina can survive even a boosted hit and revenge kill it. Generally, scouting for super effective coverage moves on Pokemon Primarina may attempt to beat, such as Acid Downpour on Hydreigon and Gunk Shot on Infernape, is ideal. Early-game, it is advised to use Scald, as it is very spammable and can potentially burn foes and wear them down. A burn from Scald helps Primarina beat Pokemon like Empoleon and Tentacruel that often rely on passive recovery to beat it and cripples other common switch-ins like Amoonguss. Moonblast should be used mid- to late-game, as it is slightly more powerful than Scald and OHKOes certain Pokemon Scald doesn't, such as Krookodile and Crawdaunt. Moonblast can also be used to pressure opposing Water-types like Alomomola and Empoleon, especially if they are burned. Because of its lack of reliable recovery, Primarina should be using Rest as often as it can to take on threats like Krookodile and Infernape throughout the match. Thanks to Rest, Primarina can also act as a status absorber, as it can come in on Toxic users such as Hippowdon and Empoleon and heal itself with Rest. Sleep Talk should almost always be used if Primarina is asleep and it is in its favor to stay in so it is not completely inactive and may still attempt to burn or hit an opposing Pokemon with a STAB move. However, in the rare cases when Primarina needs to save PP, it should not use Sleep Talk every turn it is asleep. Despite having super effective coverage for Latias, Primarina must be wary of staying in on it, as Calm Mind sets can set up on this variant of Primarina and heal off the damage taken with Roost. Furthermore, to avoid unnecessary risks, if Primarina is asleep, it shouldn't stay in on setup sweepers like Scizor and Cobalion.

Team Options
========

Primarina, generally, fits in on bulky offensive teams and balanced teams that appreciate its unique typing and mixed defensive capabilities. Because Primarina is susceptible to every form of entry hazard, hazard control from Pokemon like Hydreigon and Rotom-C is mandatory to help Primarina reach its full potential as a wall. Similarly, Poison-types like Nidoking and Nihilego can absorb Toxic Spikes, which Primarina dislikes. Rotom-H and Moltres deserve a special mention because not only are they able to Defog away hazards for Primarina, they also can check Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Scizor that Primarina fails to beat. Ground-types like Krookodile and Hippowdon generally pair well with Primarina thanks to their ability to check Volt Switch users like Mega Manectric and Zeraora that threaten it out. Certain wallbreakers like Infernape and Hydreigon synergize well with Primarina because they are able to take advantage of Primarina forcing in Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena as well as bulky Water-types like Empoleon and Tentacruel. Latias pairs exceptionally well here because it is able to reliably take advantage of Poison-types like Tentacruel and Amoonguss for Primarina, while Primarina can check Dark-types like Krookodile and Hydreigon for it. Because Primarina's typing allows it to serve as a check to Hydreigon, Pokemon like Chandelure and Krookodile that struggle to break through Hydreigon pair well with it. The former can take on Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena that Primarina struggles to break through, and the latter reliably checks Electric-types like Mega Manectric and Zeraora. Primarina's typing also allows it to handle Fighting-types like Infernape and Kommo-o, so Pokemon such as Stakataka, Scizor, and Hydreigon that appreciate Primarina taking them on pair well with it.

hi misa, amcheck nwn
Usage Tips:
  • You talk about being wary of coming in on kommo and hax, remove the kommo mention because prima can hard in on kommo every time. +1 252 Atk Kommo-o Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Primarina: 204-240 (56 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO, 252 Atk Kommo-o Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Primarina: 136-162 (37.3 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • Yeah def prima does check Mienshao but like there’re way more relevant threats in the meta you could name, especially since everyone’s using AV Shao rn anyways which just knocks it... and non av sets often run pjab. Maybe mention something like Krook?
  • Mention something about how it can be used as a status absorber due to Rest. One thing I like to use def prima for is when I need a fairy that’s capable of pressuring fat grounds like Hippo. It can switch into Toxics w/o really caring b/c of rest and that’s always been a big selling point to me.
Team Options:
  • Not sure about the wish mention, sure it would love wish to reliably heal itself up… but if you have Umbreon/Blissey on your team why are you using Primarina, I understand it’s capable of checking physical attackers as well but you could compress the roles of Umbreon + Primarina into just Sylveon and have a free slot, so idk about that mention. Especially since one of Primarina’s biggest niches is walling mr. S rank Hydreigon, which Umbreon and Blissey both do as well. Not disagreeing with wish being helpful, it’d just be odd to fit on a team with this.
  • "also check Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsraeena that beat Tsareena” js i’m p sure you meant Primarina here haha
  • Maybe mention tspikes as tspikes + def prima can threaten fat builds lacking amoonguss or tentacruel extremely hard because of it’s ability to sleep off toxics all day.

*Rest lets Primarina make up for its lack of active recovery, which is mandatory in beating threats like Crawdaunt and Infernape reliably throughout the match.

*Sleep Talk is Primarina's method of not being a passive set up fodder while asleep, which may potentially punish set up sweepers like Terrakion and Cobalion that can otherwise beat Primarina if it is asleep.

*Thanks to Primarina's naturally good Special Defense, 252 Defense EVs in conjunction with a Bold nature let Primarina be bulky on both sides of the defensive spectrum, which is mandatory in handling physical attackers like Infernape and Krookodile, as well as special attackers like Hydreigon and Lucario.

*Leftovers not only does provide Primarina passive recovery which allows it to remain healthy but it also allows Primarina to switch into U-turn users like Infernape and Hydreigon more reliably, as it potentially negates U-turn's damage. After some thought you can probably keep this but it's up to you.

*Torrent boosts Primarina's Water-type STAB by x1.5, which can come in handy against Pokemon like Terrakion and Infernape, who Primarina can't reliably OHKO if not boosted. currently, this line sounds like it always gives it a 1.5x boost, so make sure to specify that it triggers at low health

Usage Tips
========

*Switch Primarina in on Pokemon whose STAB moves are resisted by Primarina, including Crawdaunt, Mega Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Kyurem, and Infernape.

*Be wary of switching Primarina in on Pokemon such as Kommo-o and Haxorus whose STAB moves are resisted by Primarina but are likely have super effective coverage for Primarina on them. However, if they are boosted, Primarina should be used as a revenge killer, as it can still survive a boosted hit if it is healthy.

*Early-game, it is advised to use Scald, as it is very spammable and it can potentially burn the opposing Pokemon and wear it down. That may help Primarina beat Pokemon like Empoleon and Tentacruel that often rely on passive recovery to beat Primarina, and may help cripple other common switch-ins like Amoonguss.

However, in rare cases in which Primarina needs to save PP, Primarina might as well not use Sleep Talk every time it is asleep.

*Despite having super effective coverage on Latias, Primarina must be wary of staying in on it, as Calm Mind Latias can take advantage of Primarina being uninvested in Special Attack, boost on it, heal off Moonblast's damage, and beat Primarina.

Team Options
========

*Primarina, generally, fits in on bulky offensive teams and balanced teams that appreciate Primarina's unique typing and mixed defensive capabilities.

*Due to reliance on Rest to retain longevity, Wish users like Blissey and Umbreon can help Primarina be healthy without too much reliance on Rest. Similarly, with Heal Bell, they can cure a status ailment on Primarina that may shut it down.

*Because Primarina is susceptible to every form of hazard, hazard control is mandatory to help Primarina reach its full potential as a wall. Hydreigon and Rotom-Mow all do well here. Similarly, Poison-types like Nidoking and Nihilego can absorb Toxic Spikes that are lethal to Primarina. Rotom-Heat and Moltres deserve a special mention because not only are they able to Defog away hazard for Primarina, but they can also check Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsraeena that beat Tsareena, as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Scizor that Primarina fails to reliably beat.

*Ground-types like Krookodile and Hippowdon generally pair well with Primarina because of their ability to check Volt Switch users like Mega Manectric and Zeraora that threaten it out.

*Certain wallbreakers like Infernape and Starmie synergize well with Primarina because they are able to take advantage of the fact Primarina lures in Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena, as well as bulky Water-types like Empoleon and Tentacruel.

*Similarly, setup sweepers like Scizor and Cobalion appreciate Primarina luring in certain walls like Tentacruel and Amoonguss because it can wear them down with a potential burn.

Mention teammates that struggle against Hydreigon here. Checking Hydreigon is one of defensive Primarina's biggest niches so it makes sense to have shit that can't deal with Hydreigon.

* I think it could be worth mentioning in Team Options some mons that appreciate having a check to nape, esp. np variants, such as scizor, hydreigon, and stakataka

* Adding Latias somewhere in team options is a pretty cool idea imo, it can take advantage of the Poison-types that fat prim invites in like Tentacruel and to an extent Amoonguss, and it also enjoys having some pressure taken off in terms of checking Fighting-types, and it also serves as a solid check to non-knock Zeraora and various other electrics in the tier.

aside from that these little team options expansions this is real solid, 2/3

Usage Tips
========

Switch Primarina in on Pokemon whose STAB moves are resisted by Primarina, including Crawdaunt, Mega Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Kyurem, and Infernape. Be wary of switching Primarina in on Pokemon such as Volcanion Haxorus whose STAB moves are resisted by Primarina but are likely have super effective coverage for Primarina on them. However, in Haxorus' case, if it is boosted, Primarina should be used as a revenge killer, as it can still survive a boosted hit if it is healthy and KO it back. (specify the coverage that volcanion and haxorus can run to beat it so readers know what to be aware of) Generally, scouting for super effective coverage on Pokemon Primarina may attempt to beat, such as Acid Downpour on Hydreigon and Gunk Shot on Infernape, is ideal. Early-game, it is advised to use Scald, as it is very spammable and it can potentially burn the opposing Pokemon and wear it down. Moonblast should be used mid- to late-game, as it is slightly more powerful than Scald, and on certain cases Moonblast OHKOs a Pokemon Scald doesn't, such as Krookodile and Crawdaunt. Moonblast can be also used to pressure opposing Water-types like Alomomola and Empoleon, especially if burnt. (it doesn't really pressure empo doing around 12-15% to it; something like slowbro could work better. you can mention how its role as a status absorber allows it to wear down burned empo over a series of turns when you talk about it switching into empo toxic, which i feel is the idea of the point here) Because of its lack of reliable recovery, Primarina should be using Rest as often as it can to take on threats like Krookodile and Infernape throughout the match. Thanks to Rest, Primarina can also act as a status absorber, as it can come in on Toxic users such as Hippowdon and Empoleon and heal itself off. Sleep Talk should always be used if Primarina is asleep and it is in its favor to stay in, so it is not completely inactive and may still attempt to burn or hit an opposing Pokemon with a STAB move. However, in rare cases in which Primarina needs to save PP, Primarina might as well not use Sleep Talk every time it is asleep. (can use this section to mention staying in / not staying in and letting foes in due to its passivity here. you touch on it by saying "in its favor to stay in" but maybe touch on how staying in asleep can be a momentum drain and let dangerous mons in for free too)

Team Options
========

Primarina, generally, fits in on bulky offensive teams and balanced teams that appreciate Primarina's unique typing and mixed defensive capabilities. (starmie isn't really the best here because it stacks weaknesses with primarina firstly and it doesn't really offer much against tsareena/empoleon and it doesn't work well as a partner in general. i also won't really see it as a breaker, and infernape would be best specified as a nasty plot set as a breaker too) Latias pairs well exceptionally well here because it is able to reliably take advantage of Poison-types like Tentacruel and Amoonguss for Primarina, while Primarina can check Dark-types like Krookodile and Hydreigon for it. Similarly, setup sweepers like Scizor and Cobalion appreciate Primarina luring in certain walls like Tentacruel and Amoonguss because it can wear them down with a potential burn. (throughout this section you're pairing primarina with checks to these two because it doesn't like them, so saying coba/scizor appreciates primarina because it can burn them doesn't really work) Lastly, because Primarina's typing allows it to serve as a check to Hydreigon, Pokemon like Chandelure and Krookodile that struggle to break through Hydreigon pair well with Primarina. The former can take on Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena that Primarina struggles to break through, and the latter reliably checks Electric-types like Mega Manectric and Zeraora. Thanks to Primarina's naturally good Special Defense special bulk, it can already take on special attackers like Hydreigon and Lucario well, so 252 Defense EVs in conjunction with a Bold nature let Primarina be bulky on both sides of the defensive spectrum, which is mandatory in handling as physically bulky as possible to handle physical attackers like Infernape and Krookodile, (RC) as well as special attackers like Hydreigon and Lucario. Early-game, it is advised to use Scald, as it is very spammable and it can potentially burn the opposing Pokemon and wear it foes and wear them down. That may help A burn from Scald helps Primarina beat Pokemon like Empoleon and Tentacruel that often rely on passive recovery to beat Primarina, (RC) it and may help cripple cripples other common switch-ins like Amoonguss. Moonblast should be used mid- to late-game, as it is slightly more powerful than Scald, (RC) and on in certain cases Moonblast OHKOs OHKOes a Pokemon Scald doesn't, such as Krookodile and or Crawdaunt. Moonblast can be also be used to pressure opposing Water-types like Alomomola and Empoleon, especially if burnt they are burned. Because of its lack of reliable recovery, Primarina should be using Rest as often as it can to take on threats like Krookodile and Infernape throughout the match. Thanks to Rest, Primarina can also act as a status absorber, as it can come in on Toxic users such as Hippowdon and Empoleon and heal itself off with Rest. Sleep Talk should almost always be used if Primarina is asleep and it is in its favor to stay in, so it is not completely inactive and may still attempt to burn or hit an opposing Pokemon with a STAB move. However, in the rare cases in which when Primarina needs to save PP, Primarina might as well should not use Sleep Talk every time turn it is asleep. Despite having super effective coverage on for Latias, Primarina must be wary of staying in on it, as Calm Mind Latias can take advantage of Primarina being uninvested in Special Attack, boost on it, heal off Moonblast's damage, and beat Primarina can set up on this variant of Primarina and heal off the damage taken with Roost. (more concise and flows a lot better) Furthermore, to avoid unnecessary risks, if Primarina is asleep, (AC) it shouldn't stay in on setup sweepers like Scizor and Cobalion.

Team Options
========

Primarina, generally, fits in on bulky offensive teams and balanced teams that appreciate Primarina's its unique typing and mixed defensive capabilities. Because Primarina is susceptible to every form of entry hazard, hazard control from Pokemon like Hydreigon and Rotom-C is mandatory to help Primarina reach its full potential as a wall. Hydreigon and Rotom-Mow all do well here. Similarly, Poison-types like Nidoking and Nihilego can absorb Toxic Spikes that, (AC) which are lethal to Primarina. Rotom-Heat Rotom-H and Moltres deserve a special mention because not only are they able to Defog away hazard hazards for Primarina, but they can also check Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena, (RC) as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Scizor that Primarina fails to beat. Ground-types like Krookodile and Hippowdon generally pair well with Primarina because of thanks to (lots of usage of "because", so trying to change stuff up here to prevent repetitiveness) their ability to check Volt Switch users like Mega Manectric and Zeraora that threaten it out. Certain wallbreakers like Infernape and Hydreigon synergize well with Primarina because they are able to take advantage of the fact Primarina lures Primarina forcing in Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena, (RC) as well as bulky Water-types like Empoleon and Tentacruel. Latias pairs well exceptionally well here because it is able to reliably take advantage of Poison-types like Tentacruel and Amoonguss for Primarina, while Primarina can check Dark-types like Krookodile and Hydreigon for it. Lastly, because Because (this wasn't the last point, so no need for lastly) Primarina's typing allows it to serve as a check to Hydreigon, Pokemon like Chandelure and Krookodile that struggle to break through Hydreigon pair well with Primarina it. The former can take on Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tsareena that Primarina struggles to break through, and the latter reliably checks Electric-types like Mega Manectric and Zeraora. Primarina's typing also allows it to handle Fighting-types like Infernape and Kommo-o, so Pokemon such as Stakataka, Scizor, and Hydreigon that appreciate Primarina handling the aforementioned Fighting-types for them, such as Stakataka, Scizor, and Hydreigon, pair well with it.

Rest lets Primarina make up for its lack of reliable recovery and is mandatory to check threats like Crawdaunt and Infernape reliably throughout the match. Sleep Talk ensures Primarina is neither passive nor setup fodder while asleep, letting Primarina it potentially punish setup sweepers like Terrakion and Cobalion that can otherwise beat it if it is asleep.

Set Details
========

Leftovers not only provides Primarina with passive recovery, which allows Primarina to remain healthy, but it also allows Primarina to lets it switch into U-turn users like Infernape and Hydreigon more reliably, as it potentially negates U-turn's damage. Torrent's power boosts the power of Scald by 1.5x if Primarina has 1/3 or less of its maximum HP, which can come in handy against Pokemon like Terrakion and Infernape that Primarina can't reliably OHKO otherwise.

Usage Tips
========

Switch Primarina into Pokemon whose STAB moves are resisted by it it resists, including Crawdaunt, Mega Sharpedo, Hydreigon, Kyurem, and Infernape. Be wary of switching Primarina into Pokemon such as Volcanion and Haxorus, though; even though Primarina resists their STAB moves, they are likely to carry super effective coverage in Sludge Bomb and Poison Jab, respectively. However, in Dragon Dance Haxorus's case, if it is boosted, a healthy Primarina can survive even a boosted hit and revenge kill it. Moonblast should be used mid- to late-game, as it is slightly more powerful than Scald and in certain cases OHKOes a certain Pokemon Scald doesn't, such as Krookodile or and Crawdaunt. However, in the rare cases when Primarina needs to save PP, Primarina it should not use Sleep Talk every turn it is asleep. Despite having super effective coverage for Latias, Primarina must be wary of staying in on it, as Calm Mind Latias sets can set up on this variant of Primarina and heal off the damage taken with Roost. Furthermore, to avoid unnecessary risks, if Primarina is asleep, it shouldn't stay in on setup sweepers like Scizor and Cobalion.
