[SET]
Physically Defensive (Great Tusk) @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Scrappy / Regenerator / Fluffy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake / Body Press
- Body Press / Knock Off / Ice Spinner
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off / Stealth Rock / Taunt
[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its enormous physical bulk, solid utility options, and wide variety of abilities it can use, Great Tusk functions as an excellent physically defensive wall. Earthquake hits potential switch-ins like Pecharunt, Scream Tail, and defensive Gholdengo, whereas Body Press is stronger than Earthquake and does solid damage to non-Fluffy Corviknight and Skarmory. Knock Off allows Great Tusk to annoy switch-ins like Corviknight, Skarmory, and opposing Great Tusk by removing their items, while Ice Spinner does good damage to Zapdos. Rapid Spin allows Great Tusk to support its teammates by removing entry hazards. Stealth Rock lets Great Tusk residually chip Pokemon like Chien-Pao, Deoxys-S, Heatran, and Ceruledge, while Taunt prevents Corviknight from using Defog, Skarmory from set up hazards, and both of them from recovering with Roost. Scrappy lets Great Tusk use Rapid Spin on Ghost-types such as Gholdengo and Pecharunt while also being able to hit Gholdengo with Body Press, whereas Regenerator gives Great Tusk longevity, which is quite valuable against Magic Guard Roaring Moon and Ceruledge, but this means that Great Tusk is forced to be used with non-RegenVest special walls; alternatively, Fluffy makes Great Tusk incredibly bulky, letting it easily switch in on Choice Band Zamazenta and Roaring Moon. Leftovers are appreciated on Scrappy and Fluffy sets, as Great Tusk lacks longevity, but Rocky Helmet is also an option to punish Corviknight, Great Tusk, Zamazenta, and non-Magic Guard Roaring Moon. Heavy-Duty Boots are a bit more niche, but they let Great Tusk remove hazards without being affected by them.
Defensive Great Tusk is most often used on bulky offense or balance teams. Attackers that are easily chipped down by entry hazards like Chien-Pao, Deoxys-S, and non-Magic Guard Roaring Moon appreciate Great Tusk being able to remove hazards with Rapid Spin. Teammates like Zapdos, Roaring Moon, and Iron Moth enjoy the Stealth Rock that Great Tusk sets up, as they can pivot out to slowly chip away at switch-ins such as Corviknight and RegenVest Roaring Moon. Great Tusk's low Special Defense requires special walls like RegenVest Manaphy, Swampert, and Roaring Moon as well as Heatran and Empoleon for Regenerator variants of Great Tusk. Great Tusk is also weak to physical attackers like Chien-Pao, Iron Boulder, Meowscarada, and the Ogerpon formes; therefore, it appreciates aid from Pokemon such as physically defensive Manaphy, Skarmory, and Moltres.

Wandering Spirit is a niche ability on physically defensive sets that prevents Regenerator Pokemon like Swampert and Roaring Moon from regaining their HP when they pivot out while also letting Great Tusk gain Regenerator. Magic Guard + Life Orb is a great combination for offensive sets, as this prevents Great Tusk from being chipped down by Rocky Helmet and poison from Malignant Chain or Toxic Spikes while also letting Great Tusk make use of Supercell Slam to hit Corviknight and Skarmory as well as Head Smash for Zapdos and Moltres without taking any recoil. Mold Breaker is used on offensive sets to allow Great Tusk to bypass Fluffy used on Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Great Tusk as well as Levitate or Earth Eater on Gholdengo and Pecharunt. Earth Eater gives Great Tusk immunity to Earthquake from Ting-Lu, Swampert, and opposing Great Tusk while also letting it counter Sandy Shocks. Great Tusk can opt for an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe to make it a fast utility Pokemon while still retaining its defensive prowess. Eject Button is a niche item that gives immunity to Poltergeist from Ceruledge after its usage and takes advantage of Pokemon trying to pivot out with U-turn like Corviknight and Roaring Moon.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Attackers**: Great Tusk's incredibly low Special Defense makes it prone to being OHKOed by special attackers like Deoxys-S, Zapdos, Scream Tail, Gholdengo, and Iron Moth.
**Super Effective Physical Attackers**: Chien-Pao, Iron Boulder, Meowscarada, and the Ogerpon formes can all 2HKO Great Tusk with their super effective attacks.
**Residual Damage**: Residual damage like poison, Spikes, and Rocky Helmet all slowly chip away at Great Tusk, and it makes matters worse that Great Tusk lacks any sort of longevity if it isn't using Regenerator.
