Delphox

[OVERVIEW]

Delphox is one of RarelyUsed's most potent wallbreakers thanks to its high base 110 Special Attack. Its base 104 Speed lets Delphox outspeed several of RarelyUsed's powerful attackers, apart from a few exceptions such as Durant and Virizion. Due to its offensively oriented base stats, Delphox can use Choice items, Life Orb, and even Berries with Substitute effectively. Thanks to its Fire / Psychic typing, Delphox has key resistances to Grass-, Fairy-, and Fighting-type attacks. On the downside, Delphox receives extra damage from Stealth Rock which, combined with its low physical bulk, makes it struggle against Dark-type attacks such as Sucker Punch and Pursuit. Houndoom is particularly troubling for Delphox, as it competes with Delphox for a teamslot as a wallbreaker, checks a majority of Delphox's sets, and is able to Pursuit trap Delphox in a face off. Conversely, Delphox has higher defensive stats, resists Fighting-type attacks, and additionally, its coverage deals with certain defensive Pokemon such as specially defensive Flygon and Alomomola.

Moves
========
Fire Blast lets Delphox handle walls such as specially defensive Drapion and Audino. Psychic hits Fighting- and Poison-types as well as some special walls that resist Fire Blast such as Jellicent and Alomomola. Calm Mind raises Delphox's Special Attack and Special Defense, helping it deal damage to Pokemon that naturally wall it. Grass Knot hits Rock-, Ground-, and Water-types that resist Fire Blast such as Rhyperior, Jellicent, and Alomomola. Substitute gives Delphox a means to avoid status or mitigate damage from a heavy blow. Dazzling Gleam lets Delphox hit Dragon- and Dark-types super effectively, most notably 2HKOing Flygon and Houndoom, although the latter needs to have received prior damage from Stealth Rock.

Set Details
========
Maximum investment in Speed and Special Attack is used so Delphox outspeeds and KOes as much as possible. A Timid nature allows Delphox to outspeed base 100 Speed Pokemon such as Flygon. Life Orb is used for higher damage output, but Salac Berry raises Delphox's Speed after it uses Substitute three times, allowing it to gain the upper hand against faster attackers such as Virizion and Jolteon. This also means that Blaze is activated, giving a massive boost to Fire Blast. Alternatively, Leftovers could be used to provide Delphox with passive recovery. Colbur Berry could be used in order to reduce damage from a super effective Dark-type attack once. Blaze is the chosen ability to boost the power of Fire Blast when Delphox is at 1/3 or lower HP.

Usage Tips
========
This set aims to deal damage through its coverage options while setting up on Pokemon that can't deal much damage to Delphox. Delphox should be brought in on Pokemon that can't damage it too much such as Aromatisse, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth, although it should be noted that Tangrowth could use Knock Off on the switch. Grass Knot should be used to heavily damage Rock-, Ground-, and Water-type switch-ins, but Psychic can be used to ease prediction if said Pokemon are weakened enough. Delphox can wallbreak early- and mid-game against defensive teams or clean up late-game against offensive and balanced teams, but it should be careful against Pokemon it can't outspeed, such as Sneasel and Virizion. When using Dazzling Gleam + Colbur Berry against a Dark-type, Delphox has an opportunity to set up, unless it is weakened, its foe is faster, or its foe has access to Sucker Punch.

Team Options
========
Entry hazard removal support from Togetic, Flygon, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop is greatly appreciated, as it increases Delphox's longevity. Grass- and Electric-type attackers such as Virizion, Tangrowth, Shiftry, Rotom-C, and Jolteon can handle bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Alomomola that wall Delphox. Fairy- and Fighting-types such as Aromatisse, Togetic, Emboar, Scrafty, and Hitmonlee can support Delphox by pressuring Dark-types. Said Pokemon also appreciate Delphox's ability to take down some bulky Poison-types. Entry hazard support such as Spikes from Qwilfish and Accelgor and Stealth Rock from Rhyperior, Seismitoad, and Steelix can help Delphox by breaking Focus Sashes and Sturdy, as well as making KOs more easily achievable, such as OHKOing Jolteon with Fire Blast after damage from Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes. Dugtrio can trap and OHKO Fire- and Dark-types that give Delphox trouble such as Houndoom, Camerupt, Skuntank, and Drapion, while also managing to weaken Meloetta.

Moves
========
Fire Blast lets Delphox handle walls such as specially defensive Drapion and Audino. Psyshock is used for better accuracy and hitting Fighting- and Poison-types; at +1, it OHKOes Virizion and Venomoth after it uses Quiver Dance once, which Psychic does not. Dazzling Gleam helps damage Dark- and Dragon-types such as Spiritomb, Scrafty, and Flygon, and is Delphox's only method of damaging Houndoom. Trick is used to cripple walls, setup sweepers, or Eviolite-dependent Pokemon. Hidden Power Ice may be used in order to revenge kill Choice Scarf Flygon.

Set Details
========
Maximum investment in Speed and Special Attack is used to let Delphox be as fast and strong as possible. Choice Scarf is used to to let Delphox outspeed a grand majority of the tier. A Timid nature can be used to outspeed base 100 Speed Choice Scarf users such as Flygon, but Modest Delphox still outspeeds all the unboosted Pokemon in the tier. Blaze boosts the power of Fire Blast when Delphox is at 1/3 or lower HP.

Usage Tips
========
Don't be too dependent on Fire Blast, as it has low accuracy. Psychic should be used to hit Pokemon that resist Fire Blast, such as Alomomola and Rhyperior, for higher damage. Dazzling Gleam should be used on a predicted Dark- or Dragon-type switch-in. If the opponent has a Dark-type Pokemon, Psychic should be used carefully, as Delphox being Choice-locked into Psychic gives them the opportunity to attack or set up. Trick should be used on a bulky Pokemon that relies on Leftovers as a means of recovery or a Pokemon carrying Eviolite to cripple them, giving Delphox an advantage over these Pokemon. It should be noted that Delphox's Choice Scarf should be kept unrevealed as long as possible in case it can net an important KO later in the match.

Team Options
========
Grass- and Electric-type attackers such as Virizion, Tangrowth, Shiftry, Rotom-C, and Jolteon can handle bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Alomomola, which wall Delphox. This set also appreciates partners that can take down Houndoom, which is able to Pursuit trap Delphox or revenge kill it with Sucker Punch. Hitmontlee receives a notable mention, as it can safely switch in against Houndoom's Dark-type STAB moves while also having enough Special Defense to survive a Life Orb-boosted Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage; Hitmonlee can then OHKO Houndoom with Mach Punch. Flygon is also a great partner, as it deals with Houndom and Drapion while also being able to provide Defog support. Entry hazard support such as Spikes from Qwilfish and Accelgor and Stealth Rock from Rhyperior, Seismitoad, and Steelix is appreciated, as the entry hazard damage breaks Focus Sash and Sturdy while also making late-game cleaning much easier. Powerful wallbreakers such as Choice Band Tyrantrum, Choice Specs Exploud, and Mega Camerupt can heavily weaken the opposing team so Delphox has an easier time cleaning up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Delphox could also use Choice Specs, which gives a huge boost to its Special Attack with the only drawback being it cannot change moves unless it switches out. An all-out-attacking set with Fire Blast, Psyshock, Grass Knot, and Dazzling Gleam equipped with a Life Orb can be used as an effective wallbreaker. Hidden Power Water hits Houndoom and Mega Camerupt super effectively. Flamethrower can be used over Fire Blast if Fire Blast's low accuracy is seen as too much of a liability. Will-O-Wisp can cripple an offensive switch-in, but it takes away from Delphox's offensive presence. Sunny Day allows Delphox to run Solar Beam and gives a boost to Delphox's Fire-type attacks. Magician + Power Herb and Solar Beam can be used to steal a foe's item while dealing a large amount of damage to Water-types, but this strategy is torn down by Knock Off, and it also misses out on the damage boost provided by Blaze.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Drapion, Houndoom, Sneasel, and Spiritomb can take advantage of Delphox being Choice-locked into a Psychic-type attack and Pursuit trap it but all except Houndoom should be careful of switching into Fire Blast Skuntank, Houndoom, and Spiritomb can KO Delphox with Sucker Punch.

**Bulky Water-types**: Jellicent and specially defensive Alomomola can easily sponge most of Delphox's attacks, but they should be careful on switching into Trick or Grass Knot.

**Faster Attackers**: Pokemon such Jolteon, Sneasel, Virizion, Durant, and Dugtrio and Choice Scarf users such as Flygon and Hitmonlee can outspeed and deal heavy damage to or KO Delphox, but should they be careful if Delphox is holding a Choice Scarf. Dugtrio in particular outspeeds Delphox, and can trap it and KO with Earthquake.

**Residual Damage**: Status ailments and entry hazards, most notably Stealth Rock, reduce Delphox's longevity, making it easier to KO.

**Priority**: Priority moves such as Sucker Punch, Fletchinder's Acrobatics, and Aqua Jet deal massive damage to Delphox due to its low physical bulk.

the overview seems to downplay delphox more than hype it up, which shouldn't be the case cuz delphox is an excellent mon.

pros: good strong dual stabs and movepool that shits on mola jelli amoonguss and rhyperior making it a good wallbreaker/good spatk/good speed/checks grasses (amoonguss/viriz) and glalie
cons: checked by flygon/competition from houndoom/weakness to sucker? (and SR)

Put Specs and All-Out-Attacker w/ LO (fire blast/psyshock/grass knot/dgleam) in OO, it might even deserve its own set idk. mention HP ice in OO for flygon, especially for scarf as it can revenge it w/ HP Ice..

just a few pointers before its in QC stage

e: seems QC Ready (might add typhlosion mentions since it's technically RU)

e2: I think I'd rather wait for tier shifts to happen before this is QC ready, so gonna hold this down for a while.

Mention Dgleam is the only way to hit Houndoom for any type of damage and that its good for flygon altho it doesn't OHKO

mention HP Ice is strictly for OHKOing Flygon

told u a few more simple changes on PS

QC approved 1/3

Not QC but the format for Checks and Counters should look like this:

**Dark-types**: Describe why the Pokemon is a threat.

**Bulky Water-types**: Describe why the Pokemon is a threat.

(etc.)

Also for Team Options, you should probably mention a few Pokemon that can switch in and set up on Mola and Jellicent such as Virizion, Scrafty, and Venomoth.

this overview is kinda eh for me; a trend i observe quite a bit with newer writers with these segments are that they have a lot 'fluff', without really expanding on what's relevant contextually to the tier. for instance, most folks are able to look at its speed and typing and realize that, yes, it is faster than glalie / flygon, and yes, it is weak to dark-type attacks and stealth rock, but what exactly does this mean for it in the ru tier in particular?

for example, i would be highlighting the popularity of houndoom as a major drawback for delphox, both in that it faces competition for a teamslot and b.c it naturally hard checks 95% of delphox sets, even threatening to pursuit trap it. then mention speed and better natural bulk as a boon, perhaps in addition to the neat fight resist, plus the ability to more plausibly 2hko stuff like spdef flygon and bold alomomola (making it a little better v.certain defensive teams), etc. just reinforce what you're saying with stuff that has immediate implications to the tier, ya know?

same deal w/other sections, just maybe not quite as much. like, you don't need to really reference exactly what the move description is giving (although, pretty sure fire blast is not 70% accurate =/ ), just mention why it is chosen for doing what it does. ex: fire blast is the most powerful, consistent attack made available to delphox, it is used b.c it better breaks through stuff like spdef drapion, standard audino, and similar defensive facets. also, i thought qc was on the same page w/psychic being the main slash for calm mind ?_? oh, and specifically mention jellicent, seismitoad, and rhyperior as grass knot targets.

dazzling gleam should be mentioned in the moves section, rather than set details, and while hitting dark-types accurately is nice (fire blast hits all the notable stuff bar houndoom harder anyway), the main draws of dazzling gleam are 2hkoing flygon and houndoom (with stealth rock damage in the case of the latter) with life orb. colbur berry is just an option if you really need to soften up a sucker punch, or perhaps get off a little more lightly from a pursuit, which generally isn't worth the drop in power / stronger end-game v.offense (which is why it's in set details, rather than a main slash :p).

also, it seems there was a lot of copy / paste with the team options here. while i get that there are bound to be some overlaps, it's important to, at the very least, vary how you word all of this, just to distinguish between the sets. plus, there are going to be differences in what works better with what sets, what is more important for it, and so forth.

gonna pass on giving this a check at this time, since i'd like to see this sorted a bit more before i hand it over to gp. you're doing a solid job bud, and i appreciate that, keep it up :)

I fixed some spacing, looks like you've got all of 49's stuff in there, looks solid overall. Add a pursuit mention to dark types in C&C cause Sneasel, Drapion, Houndoom, Skuntank, and Spiritomb can all trap it (though its kind of a mind game).

Due to its offensively oriented base stats, Delphox can use Choice items, Life Orb, and even Substitute effectively (idk it seems strange to me that Substitute's effectiveness is correlated mainly to offensively oriented stats. I mean, Sneasel and Fletchinder are pretty offensively oriented as well but I highly doubt you'd want them to use Substitute). Thanks to its dual Fire and Psychic Fire / Psychic typing, Delphox has access to powerful STABs moves while also giving it and various resistances, most notably to Grass, Fairy, and Fighting. Houndoom is particularly troubling for Delphox, as it competes with Delphox for a teamslot as a wallbreaker, checks a majority of Delphox's sets, and is able to Pursuit trap it. There were some parallel issues and it made no sense that Houndoom provides competition by being able to check it) Conversely, Delphox has higher defensive stats, (RC) while also resisting and resists Fighting-type attacks. When using Dazzling Gleam + Colbur Berry against a Dark type, Delphox has an opportunity to set up, unless it is weakened, (AC) or its opponent is faster, (AC) or its opponent has access to Sucker Punch.

Fire Blast is the main attack due to its consistent damage output, letting it handle walls such as specially defensive Drapion, Audino, and the like. Psyshock is used for better accuracy and hitting Fighting- (add hyphen) and Poison-type Types, while also guaranteeing the OHKO on Virizion and Venomoth after it uses Quiver Dance once, which Psychic does not. Dazzling Gleam helps damage Dark- (add hyphen) - (remove hyphen)and Dragon-types such as Spiritomb, Scrafty, (AC) and Flygon, while being the only method of damaging Houndoom. Trick is used to cripple walls, set up sweepers, or Eviolite dependant Pokemon. Hidden Power Ice may be used in order to revenge kill Choice Scarf Flygon.

Set Details

Maximum investment on in Speed and Special Attack is used to have as much speed and power be as fast and strong (feels less awkward imo) as possible. Choice Scarf is used to to let it outspeed a grand majority of the tier. A Timid nature can be used to outspeed base 100 Speed scarfers such as Flygon, but a Modest Nature still outspeeds all the unboosted Pokemon in the tier (jw, not qc or anything, but is it possible to go into what OHKOs or 2HKOs that Modest gets but Timid doesn't?) . Blaze is the chosen ability, as it boosts the power of Fire Blast when Delphox is at 1/3 or lower HP.

Usage Tips
========
Be careful with being Don't be too overdependant dependent on Fire Blast, due to its as it has low accuracy. Psychic could is used in to hit Pokemon that resist Fire Blast, such as Alomomola and Rhyperior, (AC) for higher damage. Dazzling Gleam should be used on a predicted Dark- or Dragon-type switch-in. If the opponent has a Dark-type Pokemon, Psychic should be used carefully since they can choice lock delphox Delphox and have the opportunity to attack/ (remove slash) or set up. Trick should be used on a bulky Pokemon that relies on Leftovers as a means of recovery or a Pokemon carrying Eviolite to cripple them, (RC) as it essentialy cripples them, giving Delphox an advantage over said Pokemon. It should be noted that Delphox's Choice Scarf should be kept unrevealed in the case it can net an important KO later in the match.

Electric- and Grass- type attackers like such as Virizion, Tangrowth, Shiftry, Rotom-Mow, and Jolteon can handle Bulky bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Alomomola that wall Delphox. This set also appreciates partenrs partners that can take down Houndoom, as it easily revenge kills Delphox with Sucker Punch and can manage to Pursuit trap it. Hitmontlee receives a notable mention, (AC) as it can come in, resisting Houndoom Dark-type STABs moves while also having enough Special Defense to survive a Life Orb boosted Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage, and OHKOing it with Mach Punch. Flygon is also a great partner, as it deals with Houndom and Drapion while also being able to provide Defog support. Hazard support such as Spikes from Qwilfish and Accelgor and Stealth Rock from Rhyperior, Seismitoad, (AC) and Steelix is appreciated, as the entry hazard damage breaks Focus Sash and Sturdy, (RC) while also making late-game cleaning much easier. Powerful wallbreakers such as Choice Band Tyrantrum, Choice Specs Exploud, (AC) and Mega Camerupt can heavily weaken the opposing team so Delphox has an easier time cleaning up.

Other Options

Delphox could also use Choice Specs, which gives a huge boost to its Special Attack with the only drawback being it cannot change moves unless it switches out. An All Out Attacker set with Fire Blast, Psyshock, Grass Knot, and Dazzling Gleam equipped with a Life Orb can be opted for to use used as an effective wallbreaker. Hidden Power Water can be used to hit Houndoom and Mega Camerupt super effectively. Flamethrower can be used over Fire Blast if Fire Blast's low accuracy is seen as too much of a liability. Will-o-Wisp Will-O-Wisp can be used to cripple an offensive switch-in, but it takes away from Delphox's offensive presence. Sunny Day allows Delphox to run Solar Beam, (RC) while also giving a boost to its Fire type attacks. A combination of Magician + Power Herb and Solar Beam can be used to steal an opponent's item while dealing a large amount of damage to Water types, but this strategy is torn down by Knock Off, while it also misses out on the damage increment provided by Blaze. (add period)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Drapion, Houndoom, Sneasel, Skuntank, (AC) and Spiritomb can Choice lock Delphox into a Psychic-type attack and Pursuit trap it with the exception of Skuntank, but should be careful against switching in to into Fire Blast, bar Houndoom, which is immune to it due to Flash Fire. All of these Pokemon can proceed to KO Delphox with Sucker Punch, with the exception of Sneasel, which outspeeds it anyways, and Drapion.

**Bulky Water-Types**: Jellicent and specially defensive Alomomola can easily sponge most of Delphox's attacks, but should be careful on switching in to into Trick or Grass Knot.

**Faster Attackers**: Pokemon such Jolteon, Sneasel, Virizion, Durant, and Dugtrio, (AC) and Choice Scarf users such as Flygon and Hitmonlee can outspeed and deal heavy damage to or KO Delphox, but should be careful if Delphox is holding a Choice Scarf. Dugtrio especially in particular (tad less awkward) can trap Delphox, outspeed it, and KO it with Earthquake.

**Residual Damage**: Status ailments and hazards, most notably Stealth Rock, reduce Delphox's longevity, making it easier to KO.

**Priority**: Priority moves such as Sucker Punch (remove space) , Fletchinder's Acrobatics, and Aqua Jet deal massive damage to Delphox due to its low physical bulk.

i've only looked at the beginning of Mr. U's check so far but the changes in the Overview were excellent.
[OVERVIEW]

Delphox is one of RarelyUsed's most potent wallbreakers, thanks to its high base 110 Special Attack, allowing it to easily take down most balance-oriented teams. Its base 104 Speed lets it outspeed several of RarelyUsed's powerful attackers, apart from a few exceptions such as Durant and Virizion. Due to its offensively oriented base stats, Delphox can use Choice items, Life Orb, and even Substitute effectively. Thanks to its Fire / Psychic typing, Delphox has access to powerful STAB moves and various resistances, most notably to Grass-, Fairy. (RP), and Fighting-type attacks. On the downside, its typing makes it receive extra damage from Stealth Rock and, combined with its low physical bulk, makes it struggle against Dark-type attacks such as Sucker Punch and Pursuit. Houndoom is particularly troubling for Delphox, as it competes with Delphox for a teamslot as a wallbreaker, checks a majority of Delphox's sets, and is able to Pursuit trap it. Conversely, Delphox has higher defensive stats and resists Fighting-type attacks. Additionally, its coverage allows it to deal with certain defensive Pokemon such as specially defensive Flygon and Alomomola, giving it an advantage over some defensive teams.

Grass Knot hits Rock-, Ground-, and Water-types that resist Fire Blast such as Rhyperior, Jellicent, and Alomomola, and Rhyperior. Substitute gives Delphox a means to avoid status while also allowing it to mitigate damage from a heavy blow. Dazzling Gleam lets it hit Dark- and Dragon-types Dragon- and Dark-types super effectively, most notably 2HKOing Flygon and Houndoom, although the latter needs to have received prior damage from Stealth Rock.

Maximum investment o (something happened here) in Speed and Special Attack is used so Delphox has as much speed and power as possible. Timid is the chosen nature, as it allows Delphox to outspeed base 100 Speed Pokemon such as Flygon. Life Orb is used for higher damage output at the cost of health loss with every attack. Salac Berry raises Delphox's Speed after it uses Substitute 3 three times, allowing it to gain the upper hand against faster attackers such as Virizion and Jolteon. This also means that Blaze is activated, giving a massive boost to Fire Blast. Alternatively, Leftovers could be used to provide Delphox with passive recovery. Colbur Berry could be used in order to reduce damage from a super effective Dark-type attack once. Blaze is the chosen ability, as it boosts the power of Fire Blast when Delphox is at 1/3 or lower HP.
