[OVERVIEW]

Dhelmise is one of NU's few viable spinners thanks to its solid all-around bulk, good matchup against common Stealth Rock setters, and reliable recovery in Synthesis. Dhelmise can easily take on foes like Bronzong, Diancie, and Mudsdale thanks to its powerful STAB moves and spin their Stealth Rock away, and it's also able to answer common offensive threats such as Shell Smash Blastoise and Golurk. Sadly, Dhelmise is extremely prone to being statused by foes like Rotom-C and Vaporeon, severely cutting into its longevity and forcing it to waste turns recovering health more frequently. Additionally, Dhelmise is at times a shaky answer to the Pokemon it wants to check because of their access to super effective coverage for it, meaning it must remain at or near maximum health to be a safe switch-in, which is difficult because of its vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards. Dhelmise's poor Copperajah matchup is also notable, making it a worse hazards remover against such teams.

Dhelmise forgoes holding an item to better check Poltergeist users like Golurk, Decidueye, and opposing Dhelmise; this also lets Dhelmise take less damage from Knock Off from the likes of Passimian and Machamp. Heavy-Duty Boots, however, gives Dhelmise a better time answering foes like Starmie, Blastoise, and Nasty Plot Rotom-C if entry hazards are up. Dhelmise runs significant special bulk investment so it can beat Pokemon like Starmie and +2 Blastoise more consistently.

Garbodor is an excellent teammate, since Dhelmise can clear entry hazards without removing its Spikes. Garbodor also helps Dhelmise handle Fighting-types such as Sirfetch'd and Toxicroak. Dark- and Flying-types such as Guzzlord, Drapion, Talonflame, and Braviary can easily switch into Dhelmise's attacks and threaten to KO it, so checks like Diancie, Vaporeon, and Mudsdale are good partners. The former two as well as Sylveon can also offer cleric support, which lets Dhelmise switch into Scalds and Toxics with less worry. In return, Dhelmise can handle opposing Water-types for Diancie and Mudsdale.

Other Options
====

Colbur Berry is another item option that makes it harder for foes like Guzzlord and Zoroark to revenge kill Dhelmise; however, it makes Dhelmise a worse response to foes like Poltergeist Golurk and Decidueye. More offensive EV spreads improve Dhelmise's Copperajah matchup and let it 2HKO foes like Dragalge and Sylveon at the cost of immense bulk. Knock Off works over Poltergeist on Spikes teams with heavy item displacement, but this makes it easier for Poison-types like Dragalge and Toxicroak to switch into Dhelmise.

Checks and Counters
====

**Dark-types**: Drapion and Guzzlord can easily switch into Dhelmise's STAB attacks, force it out, and cripple whatever switches in with Knock Off. Zoroark can't switch into Dhelmise, but it can force Dhelmise out and boost with Nasty Plot on the switch.

**Braviary**: Braviary easily switches into Dhelmise and can use it as setup fodder with Bulk Up.

**Fire-types**: Arcanine is a premier defensive answer to Dhelmise thanks to its solid bulk and Intimidate and easily forces Dhelmise out with Flare Blitz. Talonflame must be cautious of Poltergeist from Dhelmise, but it threatens heavy damage with Brave Bird and a burn from Flame Body if it switches into Dhelmise's other attacks. Salazzle is a poor switch-in but scares Dhelmise out with Flamethrower.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Pokemon like Tyrantrum and Sirfetch'd can switch into Dhelmise when at full health and easily OHKO it. Ghost-types like Silvally-Ghost, Spirit Shackle Decidueye, and Shadow Punch Golurk also pose a problem, since Dhelmise can't bypass their STAB moves by forgoing an item.

Dhelmise runs significant special bulk investment so it can beat Pokemon like Starmie and +2 Blastoise more consistently, although offensive spreads take advantage of Dhelmise's great damage potential and ability to outpace and 2HKO (these examples are guaranteed 2HKOes with more attack, so may as well through that in too) foes like Dragalge and Sylveon.

Spikers such as Golisopod and Garbodor are excellent teammates, since Dhelmise can clear entry hazards without removing their Spikes. Golisopod and Garbodor also help Dhelmise handle Fighting-types, with the former offering a check to Fire-types like Salazzle and Talonflame as well. Dark-types such as Drapion and Guzzlord can easily switch into Dhelmise's attacks and threaten to KO it, so checks like Diancie, Gastrodon, and Mudsdale are good partners. In return, Dhelmise can handle opposing Water-types for Diancie and Mudsdale, while Gastrodon appreciates Dhelmise answering Rotom-C and Poltergeist Decidueye.

Colbur Berry and Heavy-Duty Boots are item options; the former makes it harder for foes like Guzzlord and Zoroark to revenge kill Dhelmise, while the latter improves Dhelmise's longevity and can help prolong the usage of Synthesis. However, running one of these means Dhelmise is a worse response to Poltergeist foes like Golurk. (Itemless, when compared to Colbur Berry, is only meant for Poltergeist. It's a valuable countermeasure but highly specific, so it's worth stating it bluntly)

Salazzle is a poor switch-in but scares Dhelmise out with Flamethrower.

**Physcial Wallbreakers**: (Examples like Tyrantrum and Sirfetch'd that OHKO (they can even switch in at full), also here's a good spot to mention physical Ghost-types that opt for alternative Ghost-type attacks like Spirit Shackle and Shadow Punch)

Dhelmise can easily take on foes like Bronzong, Diancie, and Mudsdale thanks to its powerful STAB moves and spin their Stealth Rock away, and it's also able to answer common offensive threats such as Shell Smash Blastoise and Golurk. (I'd note that Dhelmise struggles against Copperajah due to Heat Crash, especially because this spread gets creeped by Copperajah's sample) Sadly, Dhelmise is extremely prone to being statused by foes like Rotom-C and Vaporeon, severely cutting into its longevity and forcing it to waste turns recovering health more frequently. Additionally, Dhelmise is at times a shaky answer to the Pokemon it wants to check because of their access to super effective coverage for it, meaning it must remain at or near maximum health to be a safe switch-in, which is difficult because of its vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards. (if you make HDB a slash, just add "unless running Heavy-Duty Boots" here)

[SET]
name: Utility (The name gives a very unclear message to what the set actually does, and I think something like Specially Defensive or even Rapid Spin would be more apt)

move 2: Poltergeist
move 3: Rapid Spin
move 4: Synthesis
item: No Item/Heavy-Duty Boots (This item is worth a slash to me as it allows Dhelmise to check common threats such as Starmie, Blastoise, and Nasty Plot Rotom-Mow much better when hazards are up)

evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD

(This set, while offensively potent, is worse in the current meta due to the prevalence of these water types and is more fit for Other Options) (Add a mention for Heavy-Duty Boots here)

Garbodor is an excellent teammate, since Dhelmise can clear entry hazards without removing its Spikes. Garbodor also helps Dhelmise handle Fighting-types (mention examples - a new reader may not know why a Ghost-type cannot check these Fighting types without knowledge of the tier). Dark-types such as Drapion and Guzzlord can easily switch into Dhelmise's attacks and threaten to KO it (I'd mention Talonflame and possibly Braviary here as threats, as the following checks also serve to check these as well), so checks like Diancie, Vaporeon, and Mudsdale are good partners. The former two can also offer cleric support (I would mention Sylveon here, as it offers cleric support and a Dark resist), which lets Dhelmise switch into Scalds and Toxics with less worry. In return, Dhelmise can handle opposing Water-types for Diancie and Mudsdale.

Colbur Berry and Heavy-Duty Boots are item options; the former makes it harder for foes like Guzzlord and Zoroark to revenge kill Dhelmise, while the latter improves Dhelmise's longevity and can help prolong the usage of Synthesis. (Edit this to reflect the main set change if you accept it) However, running one of these means Dhelmise is a worse response to foes like Poltergeist Golurk and Decidueye. (Move mention of offensive investment here, making it better versus Copperajah and picking up the aforementioned 2HKOs but losing its ability to check a few Pokemon) (I'd give a mention to Knock Off over Poltergeist for Spikes teams that use a lot of item disruption, as Poltergeist becomes very unreliable in these situations. This comes with the obvious negative of dropping your second STAB move, which makes some Pokemon harder to pressure)

(This comment doesn't make sense, as you mention only STABs that hit regardless of a held item)
