Thanks to its ability, access to priority, and STAB Earthquake, Diggersby can be a menace to deal with for your opponent if its not prepared for. It's ability Huge Power doubles its Attack, boosting it to very respectable levels. It's unique typing also has several perks, giving Diggersby immunity to Electric and Ghost-type attacks from the likes of Rotom-H and Aegislash, and a resistance to Stealth Rock. Swords Dance further boosts Diggersby's attack to absurd levels, and allows it to tear through defensive teams. Earthquake is a great attack backed up by STAB, and hits a large portion of the metagame for neutral coverage, allowing Diggersby to 2HKO Pokemon such as Clefable and Amoonguss. Thunder Punch allows Diggersby to hit Flying-types that can check it, examples being Corviknight and Togekiss, and also provides coverage against bulky Water-types like Slowbro. Body Slam however is an option for a secondary strong STAB attack, which also offers a nice 30% chance to paralyze the target. Quick Attack rounds off this set, as Diggersby can pick off weakened targets such as Hydreigon and Alakazam. And Adamant nature is recommended for this set, as the loss in power by going Jolly nature is very noticeable.

Diggersby is best suited for offensive teams, as Diggersby can both punch holes in the opposing team and pick off weakened threats with Quick Attack. Diggersby however is by no means perfect, and does have its shortcomings. A noticeable weakness is its vulnerability to opposing priority attacks. Azumarill, Crawdaunt, and Rillaboom all have access to strong priority attacks respectively, and are able to threaten Diggersby. Rillaboom in particular is very troublesome, as the Grassy Terrain it summons halves the damage dealt from Earthquake. With this is mind set up sweepers such as Scizor and Dragapult are great teammates for this set. Scizor and Dragapult also have the added benefit of checking Rillaboom, one of Diggersby's biggest checks. Togekiss is an interesting idea, as it freely switches into Rillaboom, and can also check Crawdaunt. Type wise Gengar has great synergy, as Gengar can switch in on Fighting and Grass-type attacks aimed at Diggersby, and can often weaken the opposing team for Diggersby to pick off later with Quick Attack. Lastly, Voltturn users such as Zeraora and Hydreigon can be very beneficial for Diggersby, Zeraora in particular being able to threaten Aqua Jet users such as Azumarill and Urshifu-R.
