[OVERVIEW]
Donphan is an excellent physical bulky offensive presence in the 1v1 metagame with powerful moves, good offensive stats, decent bulk, and an invaluable ability in Sturdy. Donphan's wide movepool with access to Ground- and Rock-type moves allows it to hit the entire tier for at least neutral damage, if not super effective. With Ice Shard, Donphan has a consistent priority move to finish off faster Pokemon. However, it faces stiff competition from other Rockium Z Sturdy users such as Crustle, Carracosta, and Golem. It also struggles with bulky offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Mew. With no way of boosting its stats reliably, Donphan is vulnerable to setup stallers or even just naturally bulky Pokemon, such as Chansey and Porygon2.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Earthquake is Donphan's strongest STAB move and, when combined with Groundium Z, allows it to OHKO most hyper offensive Pokemon that do not resist it, such as Kartana and Mega Lopunny. Ice Shard allows Donphan to pick off any weakened Pokemon that Tectonic Rage fails to OHKO. Its +1 priority also allows it to gain the upper hand against some faster foes like Jumpluff and Garchomp. Head Smash lets Donphan hit Flying-types for super effective damage. It is also Donphan's most powerful attack against Pokemon that resist Earthquake; however, the recoil negates Donphan's Sturdy. Stone Edge can be used instead to preserve Donphan's Sturdy at the cost of power. Counter is used to defeat most physical Pokemon, mainly Choice item users such as Haxorus and Landorus-T. Bulldoze is another option to slow down foes, in particular Magearna.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Attack investment ensures that Donphan can hit as hard as possible while maintaining its bulk to tank physical hits. The rest of the EVs are put into Speed to outspeed other uninvested base 50 Speed Pokemon. Groundium Z allows Donphan to use Tectonic Rage to hit harder than it can with any other item. Sturdy ensures that Donphan will always be left with at least 1 HP if hit from full HP, allowing it to retaliate with powerful moves.

Usage Tips
========

Donphan is very good against frail hyper offensive Pokemon such as Hoopa-U, Mega Lopunny, and Greninja, as it can tank any hit with Sturdy and retaliate with a powerful Tectonic Rage followed by a priority Ice Shard. As a Ground-type, it is immune to Electric-type moves, and as such it has no trouble with Pokemon like Magnezone and Zeraora. Donphan deals with most Steel-type Pokemon such as Aggron, Mega Mawile, and Aegislash by using Tectonic Rage followed by Earthquake if necessary. With its Rock- and Ice-type coverage, Donphan is able to circumvent Flying-types' immunity to Ground-type moves and defeat Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y and Mega Pinsir. Send Donphan in against any physical Pokemon with Choice items such as Sawk and Haxorus to hit them back with Counter and finish them off with Ice Shard if necessary. Donphan is able to deal with most other Sturdy Pokemon like Magnezone, Golem, Crustle, Aggron, and Sawk, as Donphan can use its powerful Tectonic Rage to bring them to Sturdy and then use Ice Shard.

Team Options
========

Donphan is weak to physically bulky Pokemon such as Zygarde-C, Mega Slowbro, and Kommo-o, so having a special wallbreaker such as Psychium Z Mew or Normalium Z Porygon-Z is recommended. In return, Donphan can deal with Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Lopunny that pose a threat to them. Mega Metagross and bulky Mega Charizard Y can deal with common Water- and Grass-type Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Fini, and Tapu Bulu, which Donphan struggles with. Donphan also helps against Fire- and Rock-type Pokemon that bother them, such as Mega Charizard X and Golem. As Donphan struggles against Pokemon that can raise their defenses like fast Iron Defense Magearna and Deoxys-S, wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard X and Aegislash are appreciated. Donphan remedies their weakness to Pokemon like Golem and Greninja.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Earthquake is Donphan's go-to STAB move, which can take out common Steel-types such as Magearna, Metagross, and Aegislash. It also beats most grounded Fire-, Electric-, and Poison-types, such as Mega Blaziken, Zeraora, and Naganadel. Head Smash deals with Flying-types, particularly Mega Charizard X and Y. Stone Edge is another, weaker option to avoid recoil. Ice Shard gives Donphan a priority move and helps it against some Dragon- and Ground-types, such as Garchomp and Landorus-T. Gunk Shot decimates Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and deals more damage to Grass-types than Fire Fang does, which is useful against Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Tapu Bulu. Fire Fang is another option that can be used over Ice Shard or Gunk Shot, allowing Donphan to hit certain Steel-types harder, such as bulky Genesect and Mega Scizor.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed investment gives Donphan the best opportunity to deal with threats, as it lets it hit hard and fast. Donphan doesn't need HP investment, as Sturdy lets it survive any hit anyway. The leftover EVs are put into Defense, with HP IVs foregone entirely to keep Donphan's HP as low as possible so that Magearna does not regain much HP through Pain Split. Choice Band lets Donphan hit extremely hard with a variety of different moves; however, it locks Donphan into one move, which leaves it vulnerable to anti-Choice item strategies and makes Donphan unable to use Ice Shard to finish off opposing Pokemon if another move has been selected.

Usage Tips
========

While Choice Band allows Donphan to hit harder, it has the drawback of not allowing Donphan to switch its moves, losing the matchup against Pokemon such as Sawk and Golem running Counter. However, it is still a good check for Mega Charizard X and Y and most Steel- and Rock-types. This set is a lure set, so send Donphan in against Pokemon that lose to its coverage moves but usually win against its standard Groundium Z set, such as Primarina and Landorus-T. With Choice Band and no HP investment, Donphan has a very good chance at defeating fast Iron Defense Magearna, which can catch opponents off-guard. Do not send it in against Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, as Donphan will not be able to KO Mega Lopunny and will be defeated by Fake Out and Flail.

Team Options
========

As Donphan is able to lure Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Magearna, Pokemon that are weak to Fairy-type moves such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o are good partners. Those also help to cover threats that Donphan would be unable to cover, such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados. Donphan needs partners that can take out physical walls such as Mega Slowbro and Zygarde-C, so Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Gardevoir pair well with it. In return, Donphan deals with the physically offensive Pokemon that these Pokemon struggle with, such as Mega Charizard X, as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Magearna.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Groundium Z can be replaced with Rockium Z for guaranteed accuracy and a harder-hitting Rock-type move, but the power of STAB Tectonic Rage is sorely missed. The EV spread on the Choice Band and Rockium Z set can be altered to 128 HP / 160 Atk / 220 Def in order to successfully tank a physical Supersonic Skystrike and Extreme Speed from maximum Attack Adamant Dragonite, its most common set, while ensuring a 2HKO with 2 Ice Shards or Continental Crush followed by Ice Shard. However, this still leaves Donphan vulnerable to special variants of Dragonite. On the main Groundium Z set, Head Smash and Counter can be replaced with Endeavor and Substitute to potentially lure Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o. Using Endeavor immediately can be effective to bait attackers to which Donphan cannot normally retaliate. However, if they do not attack turn one, use Substitute repeatedly until Donphan is at 1 HP followed by Endeavor and Ice Shard to defeat any Pokemon that does not carry a priority move. This gives Donphan the potential to outplay Pokemon that it would normally not stand a chance against. The Choice Band set can run other coverage moves such as Play Rough for Kommo-o, Superpower for Air Balloon Heatran, Seed Bomb for Swampert, and Bounce for Mega Heracross, however it must forego another move. A set with maximum Speed investment instead of HP can be run with Bulldoze to lure Magearna. Rock Tomb can also be used to beat slow Mega Charizard X and Y.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Pokemon that Ignore Sturdy**: Mold Breaker users, such as Mega Gyarados and Magnet Rise Excadrill, can break through Donphan's Sturdy. Necrozma can also OHKO Donphan thanks to Photon Geyser ignoring opposing abilities. Pokemon with Skill Link, like Cloyster and Mega Heracross, can also aptly deal with Donphan.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Zygarde are naturally bulky, so despite having a 4x weakness to Ice Shard, they are still able to defeat standard Donphan. Pokemon like Magearna and Tapu Lele can boost their defenses to defeat Donphan, however, they must be wary of lure sets.

**Ground-immune Pokemon**: Pokemon that can utilize Magnet Rise, such as Aegislash and Excadrill, are usually good checks to Donphan. Air Balloon users, such as Heatran, usually handle Donphan well too. However, these can be lured in and defeated using Choice Band-boosted Superpower, excluding Aegislash. Some Flying-type Pokemon, such as Celesteela, are also able to easily tank any of Donphan's attacks and defeat it.

**Priority Users**: Special Dragonite with Extreme Speed can safely beat Donphan. Primarina can defeat standard Donphan with Aqua Jet; however, it can be lured and taken out with Choice Band-boosted Gunk Shot.

**Stall Pokemon**: As Donphan is unable to raise its offenses, Pokemon such as Mega Sableye and Kee Berry Mew are able to set up without worry and whittle Donphan down with Will-O-Wisp, while others like Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro can PP stall Donphan or beat it with their STAB moves.

**Water- and Grass-type Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini have a type advantage over Donphan, although they must watch out for Choice Band-boosted Gunk Shot.

~~lowkey I just want to try out my new QC stamp~~

qc check
Bolded is additions, strikethrough is stuff that should be removed, underline needs to be edited in some way, red is comments. All information I bring are based on 1630 Usage stats (considering anything at or above 6% usage relevant) and Calcs.

[OVERVIEW]
I would add a little summary of what role Donphan plays in 1v1, rather than starting with its ability. Something like "Donphan is an excellent Offensive presence with an amazing ability" or something like that
  • Sturdy allows it to survive a single attack no matter if they are Physical or Special irrelevant to how sturdy works. Exceptions to this are Multi-Hit moves and Mold Breaker.
  • Donphan's access to Ground- and Rock-type moves allows it to hit the tier unresisted.
  • Its wide movepool allows it to hit many Pokemon for Super Effective damage. Either remove this or add it to the point above, bc you're really saying the same thing, that donphan hits hard
  • With Ice Shard, Donphan has a consistent Priority move to help out with faster threats its not really being fast thats an issue, its when they live one attack with just a sliver of health. Maybe change wording to show that.
  • However, it faces stiff competition from other Sturdy users such as Crustle, Carracosta and Golem.
  • The rise in Bulky Offense Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Mew in the tier stop Donphan in its tracks.
  • It has no way of boosting its stats reliably, leaving it vulnerable to set-up stallers, or even just naturally bulky Pokemon. such as?
  • Its Speed stat leaves much to be desired.

  • Ice Shard allows Donphan to pick off any weakened Pokemon that Z-Earthquake fails to OHKO. Its +1 priority also allows it to gain the upper hand on some faster opponents. such as? ik you mean jumpluff (I think) but a 1v1 noob won't know that
  • Head Smash lets Donphan hit Flying-types for Super Effective damage such as? and mention that it avoids 50/50s with Charizard x. It is also Donphan's most powerful attack for Pokemon that resist Earthquake, however the recoil removes Donphan's Sturdy state. Stone Edge can be used to preserve Donphan's Sturdy, at the cost of less power.
  • Counter is used to defeat most Physical Pokemon, mainly Choiced Pokemon. such as?
Set Details

  • Max HP and Atk ensures that Donphan can hit as hard as possible while maintaining its bulk to tank Physical hits. Groundium Z allows Donphan to use Tectonic Rage to hit harder than it can with any other item. if max hp, then why is it 248? what does that do, and why is 252 not run? and mention adamant nature.
  • Do the 8 evs in spdef serve a purpose? This is 1v1, so they very well could
mention sturdy here, even though its kinda obvious, just to cover all your bases

Usage Tips

  • Donphan is very good against frail hyper offensive Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound, Mega Lopunny and Greninja, as it can tank any hit with Sturdy and retaliate with a powerful Tectonic Rage, into priority Ice Shard.
  • As a Ground-type, it is immune to Electric-types such as Magnezone and Zeraora, so be sure to send it in on these Pokemon. Be wary that Magnezone may run Air Balloon to counter Donphan. Air Balloon Magnezone is more of a niche cteam at this point rather then a viable strategy, it has less than 3% usage which is kinda sad. anyway, we don't need to mention cteams here
  • Donphan deals with most Steel-type Pokemon such as Aggron, Mega Mawile and Aegislash by simply using Z-Earthquake followed by regular Earthquakes.
  • With its Rock- and Ice- type move coverage, Donphan is able to circumvent Flying-types' immunity to Ground-type moves, and as such is able to defeat Pokemon such as both Charizard formes and Thundurus-T (more of a GP check but they won't know which is better in 1v1).
  • Send Donphan in on any Choiced Physical Pokemon such as Sawk and Haxorus to hit them back with Counter, and finish them off with Ice Shard if necessary.
  • Donphan is able to deal with most of the other fren?

  • Earthquake is Donphan's go-to STAB move that can take out threats such as Aegislash and non-Grass Knot Greninja.
  • Head Smash helps to deal with Flying-types, in particular both Charizards. Stone Edge is another option to avoid recoil.
  • Ice Shard gives Donphan Priority and helps it with some Dragon- and Ground- types, namely Landorus-Therian and Garchomp.
  • Fire Fang allows Donphan to hit Grass- types that the regular set would have trouble dealing with, such as Kartana Donphan never worries about Kart, it just counters or Z-EQ into Ice Shard and Ferrothorn for four times Super Effective damage. It also helps with Genesect and Mega Scizor matchups.
  • Gunk Shot helps to decimate Fairy- type Pokemon that the standard set has trouble doing, such as Primarina, as well as dealing more damage to Grass- types than Fire Fang, which is useful for Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Tapu Bulu.

Set Details
========
  • Max Attack and Speed gives Donphan the best opportunity to deal with threats, as it lets it hit hard and fast (at least as fast as it can be). Super vague. What threats? Why does this set not need HP?
  • Choice Band lets Donphan hit extremely hard with a variety of different moves why is this useful?, however it locks Donphan into one move, which leaves it vulnerable to anti-choice strats.
  • why 4 def evs here and 8 spdef up here? talk about if 4 def serves a purpose

Usage Tips
========
  • This Choice Band is able to beat most of what the main set can do and more, however has the drawback of not being to switch up its moves. why is this a drawback? when does this matter?
  • This set is a good lure set, so send Donphan in on Pokemon that lose to its coverage moves, but usually win against the standard Groundium Z set, such as Ferrothorn, Primarina and Landorus-Therian.
  • The Band set is still a good check for Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, and most Steel- and Rock- types.
  • With Choice Band and no HP investment, Donphan has a very good chance at defeating Magearna, unlike the standard set. explain why, it seems like Donphan wins vs Magearna to a noob

Team Options
========
  • As Donphan is able to lure Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Magearna, Pokemon that are weak to Fairy, such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o are good partners. They also help to cover threats that Donphan would be unable to cover such as Mega Slowbro uhhh neither of those reliably beat megabro. Gyara needs to run crunch and taunt, kommo needs to be hyper offensive and defensive Mew.
  • Similarly to the previous set, don't reference other sets Donphan needs partners that can take out Physical walls such as?, so Pokemon such as Necrozma and Mega Gardevoir are good partners. Donphan deals with the Physical Pokemon that these Pokemon struggle with.
mention that this set loses to counter users and other Pokemon that can take advantage of its band, like Air Balloon Heatran, Golem, Sawk, and Carracosta

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Groundium Z can be replaced with Rockium Z for guaranteed accuracy and more hard-hitting Rock-type move, however the power from STAB Z-Earthquake is sorely missed. vague, say something like "is necessary to beat Pokemon like x, y, z"
  • Rock Tomb can be run on the main Groundium Z set to defeat some faster Pokemon, such as Air Balloon Magnezone. still doesn't really exist anymore Protect can be utilised to prevent moves such as Fake Out from breaking Donphan's Sturdy When does this matter? You beat Mega Lopunny anyway, or for scouting out moves. also when does this matter? you're slower than almost anything and can't avoid damage from moves anyway.
  • The EVs on the Choice Band or Rockium Z set can be altered to 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Def Impish nature, also bad evs, use EVs: 128 HP / 160 Atk / 220 Def Adamant Nature gives more hp more attack and same defense in order to successfully tank a Z Fly into Extreme Speed from Max Attack Adamang Dragonite, its most common set, while ensuring a 2HKO with Ice Shard or Z-Head Smash into Ice Shard. However, this still leaves Donphan vulnerable to Special variants of Dragonite.
  • On the main Groundium Z set, Head Smash and Counter can be replaced by Endeavour and Substitute to potentially lure certain opposing Pokemon, such as Mega Gyarados. mention ice shard in this vs special attackers
  • The Choice Band set can run other coverage moves such as Play Rough for Kommo-o, Superpower for Heatran, Seed Bomb for Swampert and Bounce for Mega Heracross.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mold Breaker and Ability Neutralisers**: Mold Breaker users such as Mega Gyarados and Magnet Rise Excadrill have the ability to break through Donphan's Sturdy. Necrozma can also OHKO with Photon Geyser as it ignores opponents' abilities.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon with natural Physical Bulk such as Mega Sableye, Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro can tank any of Donphan's attacks, and boost their defenses as well. Pokemon such as Landorus-Therian and Zygarde are also naturally bulky, and so despite having a quad weakness to Ice Shard, are still able to defeat standard Donphan.

**Ground-immune Pokemon**: Pokemon that can utilise Magnet Rise, such as Aegislash and Excadrill, are usually good checks to Donphan. Air Balloon Pokemon usually handle Donphan well, such as Heatran and Magnezone. However, these can be lured with Choice Banded Superpower and Rock Tomb respectively.

**Priority Users**: Special Dragonite along with Extreme Speed safely beat Donphan. Primarina can defeat standard Donphan with Aqua Jet, however can be lured with Gunk Shot from Choice Band Donphan.

A few things. Flesh out Groundium Z and to a lesser extent band with more examples. Air Balloon Magnezone doesn't exist anymore, has less than 3% usage, take it out. You were pretty good with this but also recalc everything just in case. Talk about how Stall beats Donphan as well.

If I could suggest this, I have a max speed Donphan which is anti-Heatran whose EVs are : 16 Atk / 236 SpD / 252+ Spe with Rock Tomb / EQ / IShard / Counter (or) Endeavor.

e1 : including calcs
252+ SpA Heatran Overheat vs. 0 HP / 236 SpD Donphan: 256-303 (79.7 - 94.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0- Atk Heatran Rock Tomb vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Donphan: 15-18 (4.6 - 5.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever

  • Max HP and Atk ensures that Donphan can hit as hard as possible while maintaining its bulk to tank Physical hits such as?. The rest of the EVs are put into SpDef. why? This is 1v1 here, maximizing stats is nowhere near as necessary as it is in 6v6 tiers. When showcasing a mon's set, you need to make sure that everything it has is something with purpose, rather than a vague "as bulky/strong as possible". If something legitimately has nothing that it needs particular EVs for. make sure that that is made clear.
  • Groundium Z allows Donphan to use Tectonic Rage to hit harder than it can with any other item.

Set Details
========
  • Max Attack and Speed gives Donphan the best opportunity to deal with threats, as it lets it hit hard and fast Ditto of what I said in the set details for Groundium, though this one kinda gets away with 252/252 sets, being a Choice set. Donphan doesn't need HP investment as Sturdy lets it survive any hit anyway. The leftover EVs are put into Def to keep Donphan's HP odd, which is helpful for various strategies.
  • Choice Band lets Donphan hit extremely hard with a variety of different moves, however it locks Donphan into one move, which leaves it vulnerable to anti-Choice strats, as well as the inability to use Ice Shard to finish off opponents, if another move has been selected.

Usage Tips
========
  • This Choice Band is able to beat most of what the main set can do and more, however has the drawback of not being to switch up its moves, losing out matchups such as Sawk and Golem running Counter.
  • This set is a good lure set, so send Donphan in on Pokemon that lose to its coverage moves, but usually win against the standard Groundium Z set, such as Ferrothorn 252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 24+ Def Ferrothorn: 316-372 (89.7 - 105.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO Ferrothorn can very feasibly live a Fire Fang and bop right back with a Z-Power Whip, since Iron Barbs will break Sturdy, Primarina and Landorus-Therian.
  • The Band set is still a good check for Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, and most Steel- and Rock- types.
  • With Choice Band and no HP investment, Donphan has a very good chance at defeating fast Iron Defense Magearna, unlike the standard set which loses as it is unable to blast through Magearna's boosted defenses. The 0 HP investment ensures that Magearna regains the least amount of health upon using Pain Split. Also make sure you're factoring in 0 IV HP, as well.
  • Do not send this in on Sub Flail Mega Lopunny, as Donphan will not be able to finish off Mega Lopunny and in return is OHKOd 2HKOd by Fake Out, then Flail by Flail.

Team Options
========
  • As Donphan is able to lure Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Magearna, Pokemon that are weak to Fairy such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o, are good partners. They also help to cover threats that Donphan would be unable to cover such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados respectively.
  • Donphan needs partners that can take out Physical walls such as Mega Slowbro and Zygarde-C, so Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Gardevoir are good partners. Donphan deals with the Physically Offensive Pokemon that these Pokemon struggle with, such as Mega Charizard X, as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Magearna.

Other Options

  • Groundium Z can be replaced with Rockium Z for guaranteed accuracy and more hard-hitting Rock-type move, however the power from STAB Z-Earthquake is sorely missed.
  • The EVs on the Choice Band or Rockium Z set can be altered to 128 HP / 160 Atk / 220 Def in order to successfully tank a Z Fly into Extreme Speed from Max Attack Adamant Dragonite, its most common set, while ensuring a 2HKO with Ice Shard or Z-Head Smash into Ice Shard. However, this still leaves Donphan vulnerable to Special variants of Dragonite.
  • On the main Groundium Z set, Head Smash and Counter can be replaced by Endeavour and Substitute to potentially lure certain opposing Pokemon, such as Mega Gyarados. If they do not attack Turn 1, fearing Counter, the strategy is to Substitute repeatedly until Donphan is at 1HP, and then Donphan is able to use Endeavour and Ice Shard to defeat any Pokemon that does not have priority.
  • The Choice Band set can run other coverage moves such as Play Rough for Kommo-o, Superpower for Heatran, Seed Bomb for Swampert and Bounce for Mega Heracross. Needs to be bulky or faster than Heracross to win, else Bullet Seed just KOs you
  • There's also FEAR Donphan, at level 25, with Substitute spam + Sitrus Berry to get a guaranteed 1HP Endeavor + Ice Shard

Checks and Counters
===================

**Pokemon that ignore Sturdy**: Mold Breaker users such as Mega Gyarados and Magnet Rise Excadrill have the ability to break through Donphan's Sturdy. Necrozma can also OHKO with Photon Geyser as it ignores opponents' abilities. Pokemon with Skill Link like Cloyster and Mega Heracross can also aptly deal with Donphan.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon with natural Physical Bulk such as Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro can tank any of Donphan's attacks. Pokemon like Magearna and Tapu Lele are also able to boost their defenses in order to defeat Donphan.

Air Balloon Pokemon usually handle Donphan well, such as Heatran. However, these can be lured with Choice Banded Superpower. Flying Pokemon such as Celesteela are also able to easily tank any of Donphan's attacks and defeat it.

**Priority Users**: Special Dragonite along with Extreme Speed safely beat Donphan. Primarina can defeat standard Donphan with Aqua Jet, however can be lured with Gunk Shot from Choice Band Donphan.

**Stall Pokemon**: As Donphan is unable to raise its offenses, Stall Pokemon such as Mega Sableye and Stall Mew are able to set up in its face without worry and whittle Donphan down with Will-O-Wisp.

**Water and Grass Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini have a natural type advantage over Donphan, although they must watch out for Banded Gunk Shots.

[OVERVIEW]
Donphan is an excellent Physical Bulky Offensive presence with [the amazing ability Sturdy. This allows] it to survive a single attack from full HP no matter what, which is invaluable in the 1v1 metagame. Exceptions to this are Multi-Hit moves and Mold Breaker. Donphan's access to Ground- and Rock-type moves allows it to hit the tier unresisted. Its wide movepool also allows it to hit many Pokemon for Super Effective damage. With Ice Shard, Donphan has a consistent Priority move to help finish off faster Pokemon. However, it faces stiff competition from other Sturdy users such as Crustle, Carracosta and Golem
[maybe mention magnezone too as you are speaking of generic sturdies, if youre trying to make the point about sturdies covering the rockiumg/groundium z slot then state that too as those are things to consider when teambuilding].
It also struggles with Bulky Offense Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Mew. With no way of boosting its stats reliably, Donphan is vulnerable to set-up stallers, or even just naturally bulky Pokemon, such as Chansey and Porygon2. Its Speed stat leaves much to be desired.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Earthquake is Donphan's strongest STAB move, and combined with Groundium Z allows Donphan to OHKO most Hyper Offensive Pokemon that do not resist it, such as Kartana and Mega Lopunny. Ice Shard allows Donphan to pick off any weakened Pokemon that Z-Earthquake fails to OHKO. Its +1 priority also allows it to gain the upper hand on some faster opponents like Jumpluff and Garchomp. Head Smash lets Donphan hit Flying-types for Super Effective damage. It is also Donphan's most powerful attack for Pokemon that resist Earthquake, however the recoil removes Donphan's Sturdy state. Stone Edge can be used to preserve Donphan's Sturdy, at the cost of less power. Counter is used to defeat most Physical Pokemon, mainly Choiced Pokemon such as Haxorus and Choice Scarf Landorus-Therian.

Set Details
========

Max HP and Atk ensures that Donphan can hit as hard as possible while maintaining its bulk to tank Physical hits.
[The rest of the EVs are put into SpDef].
Groundium Z allows Donphan to use Tectonic Rage to hit harder than it can with any other item. Sturdy ensures that Donphan will always be left on at least 1 HP if hit from full HP, even if the opponent is faster, allowing it to retaliate with its powerful moves.

Usage Tips
========

Donphan is very good against frail hyper offensive Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound, Mega Lopunny and Greninja, as it can tank any hit with Sturdy and retaliate with a powerful Tectonic Rage, into priority Ice Shard. As a Ground-type, it is immune to Electric-type moves, and as such have no trouble with Pokemon like Magnezone and Zeraora, so be sure to send it in on these Pokemon. Donphan deals with most Steel-type Pokemon such as Aggron, Mega Mawile and Aegislash by simply using Z-Earthquake, followed by regular Earthquakes. With its Rock- and Ice- type move coverage, Donphan is able to circumvent Flying-types' immunity to Ground-type moves, and as such is able to defeat Pokemon such as both Charizard formes and Mega Pinsir. Send Donphan in on any Choiced Physical Pokemon such as Sawk and Haxorus to hit them back with Counter, and finish them off with Ice Shard if necessary. Donphan is able to deal with most of the other Sturdy Pokemon, like Magnezone, Golem, Crustle, Aggron and Sawk, as Donphan can outprioritise them.

Team Options
========

Donphan is weak to Physically bulky Pokemon such as Zygarde-Complete, Mega Slowbro and Kommo-o, so having a Special wallbreaker such as Psychium Z Mew or Normalium Z Porygon-Z is recommended. In return, Donphan is then able to deal with Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Lopunny that may pose a threat to them. Donphan's typing leaves it weak to common Water- and Grass- Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Fini and Tapu Bulu, so Pokemon such as Mega Metagross and bulky Mega Charizard Y, who can deal with both of these types, are good partners for Donphan. Donphan also helps with the Fire- and Rock-type Pokemon that bother them, such as Mega Charizard X and Golem. As Donphan struggles against Pokemon that can raise their Defenses like fast Iron Defense Magearna and Deoxys-S, wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard X and Aegislash are much appreciated. Donphan helps to remedy their weaknesses to Pokemon like Golem and Greninja.

Moves
========

Earthquake is Donphan's go-to STAB move that can take out common Steel-types such as Magearna, Metagross, and Aegislash. It also beats most of the grounded Fire-, Electric- and Poison-types, such as Mega Blaziken, Zeraora, and Naganadel. Head Smash helps to deal with Flying-types, in particular both Charizards. Stone Edge is another option to avoid recoil, but has less damage. Ice Shard gives Donphan Priority and helps it with some Dragon- and Ground- types, namely Landorus-Therian and Garchomp. Gunk Shot helps to decimate Fairy- type Pokemon that the standard set has trouble doing, such as Primarina, as well as dealing more damage to Grass- types than Fire Fang, which is useful for Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Tapu Bulu. Fire Fang is another option that can be used over Ice Shard or Gunk Shot that allows Donphan to hit certain Steel-types better, such as bulky Genesect and Mega Scizor.

Set Details
========

Max Attack and Speed gives Donphan the best opportunity to deal with threats, as it lets it hit hard and fast. Donphan doesn't need HP investment as Sturdy lets it survive any hit anyway. The leftover EVs are put into Def to keep Donphan's HP odd, which is helpful for various strategies
[such as ? elaborate a little bit if you already mention them ].
Choice Band lets Donphan hit extremely hard with a variety of different moves, however it locks Donphan into one move, which leaves it vulnerable to anti-Choice strats, as well as the inability to use Ice Shard to finish off opponents, if another move has been selected.

Usage Tips
========

This Choice Band is able to beat most of what the main set can do and more, however has the drawback of not being to switch up its moves, losing out matchups such as Sawk and Golem running Counter. This set is a good lure set, so send Donphan in on Pokemon that lose to its coverage moves, but usually win against the standard Groundium Z set, such as Kartana, Primarina and Landorus-Therian. The Band set is still a good check for Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y, and most Steel- and Rock- types. With Choice Band and no HP investment, Donphan has a very good chance at defeating fast Iron Defense Magearna, unlike the standard set which loses as it is unable to blast through Magearna's boosted defenses. The 0 HP investment ensures that Magearna regains the least amount of health upon using Pain Split. Do not send this in on Sub Flail Mega Lopunny, as Donphan will not be able to finish off Mega Lopunny and in return defeated by Fake Out into Flail.

As Donphan is able to lure Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Magearna, Pokemon that are weak to Fairy such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o, are good partners. If they do not attack Turn 1, fearing Counter, the strategy is to Substitute repeatedly until Donphan is at 1HP, and then Donphan is able to use Endeavour and Ice Shard to defeat any Pokemon that does not have priority. hi Axial, thanks for putting in the time and effort to amgp my analysis! i've tried to implement everything you've added in. there's just a couple things that I'm unclear about:
- did I do the hyphens right haha. the ones u used look like a long hyphen but i'm not sure which one that is... -
- never seen ";however," (as in semicolon followed by however) before, but i've put them in.
- "Ice Shard gives Donphan control over priority moves" this sounds... a little weird. I've put it in but I feel like there's a better way to say this more accurately.
sometimes you've added or written things but have not coloured them, but I think I managed to get all the uncoloured comments.

Hey Chickenpie2
No worries! I'm glad you found it at least a bit useful!

To clarify, things like Electric-type (i.e. any type) and other specific Pokemon formes (like Landorus-T), among others, require the short hyphen (which's the one usually on keyboards). The longer one, called the em dash, is used more often for aside remarks and is sometimes another way to refer to examples. I wouldn't say I'm an expert on its usage or anything, but I'm fairly sure about how it's used. Tbh, I figured a GPer would go over the analysis check anyway, so I thought it was a safe place to see whether the em dash accepted in the way I used it or not. That being said, I did go over my check once more just after your reply and it seems I did miss a couple of corrections that could make this even better -- I guess I should've caught up on sleep haha
You're right, that Ice Shard sentence is downright awful :blobpensive: I think I miscoloured one of the words or something... I'd say "Ice Shard gives Donphan priority control" is okay (?) -- the control should just be over priority and not priority moves. I guess "moves" was never supposed to be there... Pardon my quite confusing work there! (On that topic, I think my confusion arose from the fact that "speed control" was an accepted term, but there was nothing about "priority control", so I guess I thought it easier to just explain what priority control is in a sentence to get around the ambiguity).

Sorry for inadvertently making it hard! I honestly thought I formatted most of my changes, but it's entirely possible I missed something. I hope that wasn't too much of an inconvenience

I just changed it to 'give it a priority move'...
also i just wanted to know how to do em dashes haha. turns out its Alt + 0151 weirdly enough.

Ah, that's a much better substitute! That should work
Yup, but I generally find it easier to simply c/p the dash lel
Thanks for actually going over what I wrote; I learnt quite a bit from this!

[OVERVIEW]
Donphan is an excellent physical bulky offensive presence in the 1v1 metagame with powerful moves, (AC) and good offensive stats, along with decent bulk, (AC) and an invaluable ability in Sturdy. Donphan's wide movepool with access to Ground- and Rock-type moves allows it to hit the entire tier unresisted for at least neutral. Its wide movepool also allows it to hit many Pokemon for and in many cases super effective damage. With Ice Shard, Donphan has a consistent priority move to help finish off faster Pokemon. However, it faces stiff competition from other Rockium Z Sturdy users such as Crustle, Carracosta, (AC) and Golem. It also struggles with bulky offensive Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Mew. With no way of boosting its stats reliably, Donphan is vulnerable to setup stallers (RC) or even just naturally bulky Pokemon, such as Chansey and Porygon2. Its Speed stat leaves much to be desired. (what does this mean in practice?)

Moves

Earthquake is Donphan's strongest STAB move and, when combined with Groundium Z, allows it to OHKO most hyper offensive Pokemon that do not resist it, such as Kartana and Mega Lopunny. Ice Shard allows Donphan to pick off any weakened Pokemon that Tectonic Rage fails to OHKO. Its +1 priority also allows it to gain the upper hand against some faster opponents foes like Jumpluff and Garchomp. Head Smash lets Donphan hit Flying-types for super effective damage. It is also Donphan's most powerful attack against Pokemon that resist Earthquake; however, the recoil negates Donphan's Sturdy. Stone Edge can be used instead to preserve Donphan's Sturdy, but at the cost of more power. Counter is used to defeat most physical Pokemon, (comma) mainly Choiced Pokemon Choice item users such as Haxorus and Landorus-Therian.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Attack EVs ensure that Donphan can hit as hard as possible while maintaining its bulk to tank physical hits.

Usage Tips
========

Donphan is very good against frail hyper offensive Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound, Mega Lopunny, and Greninja, as it can tank any hit with Sturdy and retaliate with a powerful Tectonic Rage, followed by a priority Ice Shard. As a Ground-type, it is immune to Electric-type moves, and as such it has no trouble with Pokemon like Magnezone and Zeraora, so be sure to send it in against those Pokemon. Donphan deals with most Steel-type Pokemon such as Aggron, Mega Mawile, (AC) and Aegislash by simply using Z-Earthquake Tectonic Rage (RC) followed by regular Earthquakes. With its Rock- and Ice-type move coverage, Donphan is able to circumvent Flying-types' immunity to Ground-type moves and is able to defeat Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y and Mega Pinsir. Send Donphan in against any Choiced physical Pokemon such as Sawk and or Haxorus to hit them back with Counter, and finish them off with Ice Shard if necessary. Donphan is able to deal with most other Sturdy Pokemon like Magnezone, Golem, Crustle, Aggron, and Sawk, as Donphan can outprioritize them.

Team Options
========

Donphan is weak to physically bulky Pokemon such as Zygarde-Complete, Mega Slowbro, and Kommo-o, so having a special wallbreaker such as Psychium Z Mew or Normalium Z Porygon-Z is recommended. In return, Donphan can deal with Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Lopunny, which may pose a threat to them. Donphan's typing leaves it weak to common Water- and Grass-type Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Fini and Tapu Bulu, so Pokemon such as Mega Metagross and bulky Mega Charizard Y, which can deal with both of these types, are good partners for Donphan. Donphan also helps against the Fire- and Rock-type Pokemon that bother them, such as Mega Charizard X and Golem. As Donphan struggles against Pokemon that can raise their Defenses like fast Iron Defense Magearna and Deoxys-S, wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard X and Aegislash are much appreciated. Donphan helps remedy their weakness to Pokemon like Golem and Greninja.

Moves
========

Earthquake is Donphan's go-to STAB move, which can take out common Steel-types such as Magearna, Metagross, and Aegislash. It also beats most of the grounded Fire-, Electric-, and Poison-types, such as Mega Blaziken, Zeraora, and Naganadel. Head Smash helps to deal with Flying-types, particularly Mega Charizard X and Y. Stone Edge is another, weaker option to avoid recoil, but deals less damage. Ice Shard gives Donphan a priority move and helps it against some Dragon- and Ground-types, namely (change to such as unless it's really just these two) Landorus-Therian Landorus-T and Garchomp. Gunk Shot helps to decimate Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina (RC) and deals more damage to Grass-types than Fire Fang does, which is useful against Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Tapu Bulu. Fire Fang is another option that can be used over Ice Shard or Gunk Shot that allows Donphan to hit certain Steel-types better harder, such as bulky Genesect and Mega Scizor.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed gives Donphan the best opportunity to deal with threats, as it lets it hit hard and fast. Donphan doesn't need HP investment, (AC) as Sturdy lets it survive any hit anyway. The leftover EVs are put into Defense, with HP IVs foregone entirely, to keep Donphan's HP as low as possible so that Magearna does not regain as much HP through Pain Split. Choice Band lets Donphan hit extremely hard with a variety of different moves; however, it locks Donphan into one move, which leaves it vulnerable to anti-Choice item strategies (RC) and makes Donphan unable to use Ice Shard to finish off opponents opposing Pokemon if another move has been selected.

Usage Tips
========

This set is able to beat most of what the main set can do and more, (reword this to not refer to "the main set" in order to minimise collateral edits to make if that situation ever changes, standard policy) but it has the drawback of not being able to switch its moves, losing the matchup against Pokemon such as Sawk and Golem running Counter. This set is a good lure set, so send Donphan in against Pokemon that lose to its coverage moves but usually win against its standard Groundium Z set, such as Primarina and Landorus-Therian. This set is still a good check for Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y and most Steel- and Rock-types. With Choice Band and no HP investment, Donphan has a very good chance at defeating fast Iron Defense Magearna, unlike the standard set. (same) Do not send this in against Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, as Donphan will not be able to KO Mega Lopunny and will be defeated by Fake Out and Flail.

Team Options
========

As Donphan is able to lure Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Magearna, Pokemon that are weak to Fairy-type moves such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o (RC) are good partners. The aforementioned Those (makes it sound like you're referring to prima + mag) two also help to cover threats that Donphan would be unable to cover, such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados, respectively. Donphan needs partners that can take out physical walls such as Mega Slowbro and Zygarde-C, so Pokemon such as Greninja and Mega Gardevoir are good partners pair well with it. In return, Donphan deals with the physically offensive Pokemon that these Pokemon struggle with, such as Mega Charizard X, as well as Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Magearna.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Groundium Z can be replaced with Rockium Z for guaranteed accuracy and a harder-hitting (AH) Rock-type move, but the power of STAB Z-Earthquake Tectonic Rage is sorely missed. The EV spread on the Choice Band and Rockium Z set can be altered to 128 HP / 160 Atk / 220 Def in order to successfully tank a Z-Fly Flyinium Z-boosted and Extreme Speed from maximum Attack Adamant Dragonite, (comma) its most common set, while ensuring a 2HKO with 2 Ice Shards or Z-Head Smash Continental Crush followed by Ice Shard. However, this still leaves Donphan vulnerable to special variants of Dragonite. On the main Groundium Z set, Head Smash and Counter can be replaced with Endeavor and Substitute to potentially lure certain opposing Pokemon, such as Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o. Using Endeavour Endeavor immediately can be effective to bait attackers who that think you Donphan cannot retaliate. However, if they do not attack on turn One 1, the strategy is to instead use Substitute repeatedly until Donphan is at 1 HP (RC) and then use Endeavour Endeavor and Ice Shard to defeat any Pokemon that does not carry a priority move. This gives Donphan the potential to outplay opponents Pokemon that it would normally not stand a chance against. The Choice Band set can run other coverage moves such as Play Rough for Kommo-o, Superpower for (Air Balloon?) Heatran, Seed Bomb for Swampert, and Bounce for Mega Heracross.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Pokemon that Ignore Sturdy**: Mold Breaker users, such as Mega Gyarados and Magnet Rise Excadrill, have the ability to break through Donphan's Sturdy. Necrozma can also OHKO Donphan, thanks to Photon Geyser ignoring opponents' opposing abilities. Pokemon with Skill Link, like Cloyster and Mega Heracross, can also aptly deal with Donphan.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon with natural physical bulk such as Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro can tank any of Donphan's attacks. Pokemon like Magearna and Tapu Lele are also able to boost their defenses and defeat Donphan. Pokemon such as Landorus-Therian and Zygarde are also naturally bulky, and so (RC) despite having a 4x weakness to Ice Shard (RC) they are still able to defeat standard Donphan.

**Ground-immune Pokemon**: Pokemon that can utilise utilize Magnet Rise, such as Aegislash and Excadrill, are usually good checks to Donphan. Air Balloon users, such as Heatran, usually handle Donphan well too. However, these can be lured in and defeated using Choice Band-boosted Superpower, with the exception of Aegislash. Some Flying-type Pokemon such as Celesteela are also able to easily tank any of Donphan's attacks and defeat it.

**Priority Users**: Special Dragonite with Extreme Speed can safely beat Donphan. Primarina can defeat standard Donphan with Aqua Jet; however, it can be lured and taken out with Choice Band-boosted Gunk Shot.

**Stall Pokemon**: As Donphan is unable to raise its offenses, stall Pokemon such as Mega Sableye and stall Mew are able to set up without worry and whittle Donphan down with Will-O-Wisp.

**Water- and Grass-type Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini have a natural type advantage over Donphan, although they must watch out for Banded Choice Band-boosted Gunk Shots.

wow i didn't realise i use "helps to" so much o.o thanks for the amgp check Jocus, mostly implemented. i still feel like "finish off" is more accurate than just "finish". like you can't really "finish" a Pokemon right?

Gunk Shot decimates Fairy-type Pokemon such as Primarina and deals more damage to Grass-types than Fire Fang does, which is useful against Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Tapu Bulu. Fire Fang is another option that can be used over Ice Shard or Gunk Shot, allowing Donphan to hit certain Steel-types harder, such as bulky Genesect and Mega Scizor.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

While Choice Band allows Donphan to hit harder, it has the drawback of not allowing Donphan to switch its moves, losing the matchup against Pokemon such as Sawk and Golem running Counter. However, (AC) it is still a good check for Mega Charizard X and Y and most Steel- and Rock-types.

========

Other Options
=============

However, if they do not attack on turn one, use Substitute repeatedly until Donphan is at 1 HP then use followed by Endeavor and Ice Shard to defeat any Pokemon that does not carry a priority move. This gives Donphan the potential to outplay Pokemon that it would normally not stand a chance against. The Choice Band set can run other coverage moves such as Play Rough for Kommo-o, Superpower for Air Balloon Heatran, Seed Bomb for Swampert, and Bounce for Mega Heracross, however, (AC) it must forego another move. A set with maximum Speed investment instead of HP can be run with Bulldoze to lure Magearna. Rock Tomb can also be used to beat slow Charizards Mega Charizard Y (Assuming you mean Y, if you're referring to both make it "Mega Charizard X and Y") instead.

Checks and Counters
===================

Pokemon like Magearna and Tapu Lele can boost their defenses to defeat Donphan, however, (AC) they must be wary of lure sets.

**Stall Pokemon**: As Donphan is unable to raise its offenses, Pokemon such as Mega Sableye and Kee Berry Mew are able to set up without worry and whittle Donphan down with Will-O-Wisp, while others like Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro can PP stall Donphan, (RC) or beat it with their STAB moves.

**Water- and Grass-type Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini have a type advantage over Donphan, although they must watch out for Choice Band-boosted Gunk Shot.
