Welcome to playoffs of the inaugural Doubles Grand Prix! As our replacement for Smogon Doubles Tour as the premier multi-gen tournament, Doubles Grand Prix functioned very similarly to The Smogon Classic. The preliminary stage consisted of three single elimination cups, one for each of the three generations of Doubles OU. Players earned points from these cups using the Smogon Grand Slam point structure, which can be found here. The top 16 players after the conclusion of all 3 cups will qualified for playoffs, which is a single-elimination bracket consisting of best-of-three multi-gen sets. When all is said and done, the top 32 players overall will earn Circuit Points according to the payout listed here.

Before we move on to playoffs, I wanted to say a massive thank you to DaWoblefet and Stratos for hosting BW Cup and XY Cup, respectively. Their work in both running their individual cups and helping out with administrating the tournament overall was invaluable!

With the exception of the tiebreaker sets (detailed below), all sets in playoffs will function as follows:
  1. All sets will be best-of-three multigen sets.
  2. The player with the higher seed will choose which generation that is played first. It does not have to be SM, they can choose any of SM, XY, or BW.
  3. The player who loses game 1 will choose the generation played for game 2.
  4. If necessary, game 3 will be played using the previously unused generation.
Good luck to all competitors, we're looking forward to some great sets!

Tiebreaker

Three users are tied for the last two playoff slots in all three of the tiebreak criteria, so they will need to take part in a playoff.

Kiichikos vs Mishimono
Kiichikos vs Tikkito
Mishimono vs Tikkito

These will all be best of three multi-gen sets. Game 1 will always be SM, and the loser of game 1 will pick either XY or BW for game 2. Game 3, if necessary, will be played in the unused tier.

The playoff will commence as follows:
  1. All three players will take part in a round robin. This will continue until one player beats both of the other two players in the same round robin, just as in the finals of a round robin tournament.
  2. The player who is the first to win both of their sets in this round robin will have their choice between the 15th and 16th seed.
  3. Of the two other players, the one who defeated the other during the final round robin will receive the seed not chosen by the first player.
The deadline for this playoff is Monday, July 29, at 11:59 PM Eastern time (GMT-4). All matches do not need to be completed at once, but I would strongly recommend that the three players find a time they can all be on to get this knocked out. If each player wins one set and loses one set, the tiebreaker will reset and will need to be replayed.

Re: Tie for 10th place

Tman and Spurrific are both tied for 10th place in all tiebreaker criteria, similarly to the situation for the users tied for 15th. However, since this tie only affects seeding and not qualification, it was simply decided with a coin flip. The person chosen by the coin flip will be the higher seed.
Tman is the 10th seed, and Spurrific is the 11th seed.

Tikkito wins the 15th seed.

Edit: I misremembered how we did playoffs for DOU Tour last year. I was under the assumption that the result of the set between the two players who did not win the round robin did not count, but in truth that set was used as the final tiebreaker. Therefore, Mishimono gets the 16th seed and Kiichikos gets 17th place.

My apologies for the confusion. The rest of playoffs will be posted shortly.

@Playoff contenders, please consider posting when you'll be playing (or at least tagging @Matches)! I'm excited to watch all these sets, and I'm sure plenty of other members of community feel the same.

I think either stax, emforbes, or Demantoid takes the tour, but quite a few people have done well so far. Good luck to everyone!
