Welcome to the Doubles OU EV Spread Compendium! This is a thread designed to help old and new players alike in choosing the optimal Effort Value spreads and Natures for the most effective Pokemon in Doubles OU.

More often than not, newer players use inefficient EV spreads for their Pokemon. It can vary from just clicking the Suggested Spread button in the teambuilder (which is almost always a terrible choice), or running random EVs to make oneself seem "competitive". A more experienced player may take an EV spread off of the SmogDex. While the QC team is indeed hard at work updating these spreads, Doubles OU is a rapidly changing metagame, and many spreads are no longer as effective as they were in the past. Here is where our thread comes in. This resource sets out to inform both new and experienced players of the most common or effective EV spreads for top-tier Pokemon, while simultaneously providing a thread where alternative, yet viable EV Spreads and Natures can be discussed.

This thread is sorted alphabetically, with the spreads for each individual Pokemon roughly in order of how common they are. The names of the Pokemon are colored based on their place in the Viability Rankings: Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 or 4', Tier 5 or 5'. If a particular item is needed to make the given spread relevant, its sprite is included to the left of the EVs. If no item sprite is shown, multiple different items may effectively accompany the given spread. The spreads can be fairly easily inserted into Pokemon Showdown by copying and pasting them, then deleting the | and hitting 'Enter' to move the Nature to the line below.

How Contributing Works
In this thread, you may suggest EV spreads and Natures for all Pokemon on the Doubles OU Viability Rankings.
Any Pokemon not ranked will not be added to this compilation. If you wish to see the Pokemon sorted by Viability, you can check the Viability Rankings linked above and then come over to this thread looking for a specific Pokemon that interests you. If the spread and Nature you are suggesting is not standard, you must provide rational reasoning for why these non-standard spreads are viable and effective and damage calculations that prove you aren't lying. Please, however, do not suggest gimmicky or unviable Spreads in an attempt to create more sets for a Pokemon. Including additional spreads to speed creep these new EV spreads are also discouraged, as speed creeping has to end at some point. Post replays of the spread in action for a greater chance for it to be added.

(Note: This thread is for EV Spreads ONLY. You do not need to include a moveset in your post, though you may mention it in the description, as the moveset will often help explain the reasoning behind your EVs.) The point of this thread is to note of effective EV spreads. Unique movesets belong in the Creative Sets thread.

By popular demand, the DOU Speed Tiers can be found in this spreadsheet.

  • Takes <50% from Mega Metagross Iron Head

I've provided some spreads below for Heatran, Aegislash and Kangaskhan. Also, I tried to snipe out as many of the 252/252/4 spreads as I could think of to save everyone else the trouble.

If I could make a suggestion for this version of the compendium, instead of posting the spreads as such:
  • EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | Modest Nature
Could we consider posting them like this:
  • EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    Modest Nature
It takes about the same amount of time to write them that way, and you no longer have to delete the "|" characters if you want to copy/paste the spreads. Just a thought...

  • Max SpA to hit as hard as possible with Psycho Boost
  • 4 Atk and neutral Nature to power up physical attacks like Superpower and Knock Off
  • Max Spe with Naive Nature to outspeed Modest Scarf Landorus-T and Scarf Tapu Lele, but Rash is an option since Scarf Landorus-T often runs Jolly to speed creep Deoxys-A anyway

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
  • Max Spe and Timid Nature to outspeed and flinch as many threats as possible, including Mega Salamence

Special Attacker

Modest / Timid Nature
  • No specific benchmarks, but max SpA and Spe to hit as hard and fast as possible

Kingdra
Rain Sweeper
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
  • No specific benchmarks, but max SpA and Spe to hit as hard and fast as possible under rain
  • Modest > Timid because Kingdra already outspeeds all relevant unboosted threats under rain
752.png

Arachnid! (That's Right)
Wide Guard Attacker
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
  • Max HP and Atk for optimal bulk and offensive power
    • If running Life Orb, 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD allows Araquanid to minimize the Life Orb recoil it incurs
  • Brave Nature and 0 Spe IVs to underspeed as many foes as possible under Trick Room, since it doesn't outspeed anything relevant outside of Trick Room
(In the early stage of the Gen 7 meta, Greengogoattt posted a spread that lived two Lando Rock Slides. Imo it's not relevant considering Araquanid's already good matchup against lando, but if someone wants to calc/post it they can)

645.png

Would Be Better Without Species Clause
Special Attacker
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
  • No specific benchmarks, but max SpA and Spe to hit as hard and fast as possible
  • Timid Nature to outspeed positive-natured base 100s
  • Do not dump the last 4 EVs into HP, as that will increase the Life Orb recoil Landorus incurs on moves that aren't boosted by Sheer Force (e.g. Hidden Power Ice)
381.png

"I Accidentally Loaded an XY Team"
Special Attacker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Interesting spreads, Test Bot # :) Your Hoopa-U doesn't OHKO Salamence, though

32 SpA Life Orb Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Hole in Psychic Terrain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Salamence-Mega: 298-352 (90 - 106.3%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Max speed, as much Sp Att as it can have and still get speed boosts, hp dump.

Just a minor suggestion: rn most of the EV spreads listed above aren't preceded by "EVs: " and that means that they don't paste into the teambuilder properly.

For example, this won't import properly:
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
But this will:
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

Cracking up at the set names btw n_n

[18:08] Demantoid(⊙﹏⊙✿): blueskiddo you can use 84 hp / 112 atk / 28 spd / 244 spe adamant to hit same stats
[18:08] Demantoid(⊙﹏⊙✿): And have 40 more evs

Demantoid pointed out to me that my assvest lando spread could be improved

84 hp / 152 att / 28 spdef / 244 spe with adamant nature hits the same marks (outspeeds timid tran, lives char-y overheat) and also allows 40 extra ev's, which i have placed into attack

shaian, 112 HP EVs allows Gengar to survive both Thousand Arrows and Koko's LO Tbolt with more EVs to spare

Best Design Effort Yet By Game Freak
EVs: 144 HP / 116 SpD / 248 Spe
Timid Nature
- physical attackers don't actually exist in this meta so this set pumps up Special Defense to stick around longer for more Aurora Veils and Encores
- lives 4 Atk Mence Double-Edge, was actually EVd for some other physical attack that I cannot remember so take this
- SpD dump allows it to live through powerful special attacks, especially through Aurora Veil
- speed outruns Terrakion, who is a fucker and not good for sanding

This celesteela spread has 516 evs. Id use 252 hp / 8 atk / 44 def / 168 spdef /36 spe. Same idea as the initial spread, but 8 atk ohkos 212hp tapu lele all the time

i noticed ferrothorn is underrated enough to lack a spread, and i happened to have done the (untouched) analysis for it, so ta-da
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpDef
Sassy Nature
  • 252 HP gives Ferrothorn more health as its defenses are already high.
  • 88 Defense EVs let Ferrothorn be 3HKO by Hoopa-U Hyperspace Fury and Salamence-Mega Double Edge after leftovers recovery.
  • 168 SpDef Sassy natured are used to get 3HKOed by Gengar-Mega and Aegislash Shadow Ball after leftovers recovery
  • Leftovers allows it to hit many important benchmarks, and was used to make the EVs mentioned earlier
the analysis spread:
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 32 Def / 148 SpD
Relaxed Nature
  • Giving Ferrothorn 252 HP grants it more health which pairs well with its already high defenses.
  • The 32 Defense EVs allow it to survive 2 60 Atk Salamence-Mega Double Edge with leftovers recovery
  • 76 Atk EVs let it OHKO fast Tapu lele variants even after being intimidated and the remaining points are dumped in SpD for more general bulk.
  • Its noteworthy that Leftovers allow it to hit these specific benchmarks, so different spreads might be better if you choose another item
