Gangsta Spongebob
"Mama I'm a Criminal" - Badass Smoking Caterpillar
[SET]
name: Terrain Sweeper
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Strength Sap
move 4: Thunderbolt / Substitute
item: Electric Seed
ability: Unburden
nature: Modest
evs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Drifblim's access to Unburden and Calm Mind makes it an effective Electric Terrain sweeper when equipped with an Electric Seed. Strength Sap lets Drifblim use physical attackers such as Thwackey and Gurdurr as setup fodder and provides it with reliable recovery. Thunderbolt is used to hit Pokemon that resist or are immune to Ghost, such as Kangaskhan and Alolan Persian, neutrally, while Substitute can be used to avoid status from walls such as Tangela and Pyukumuku and to ease Drifblim's setup. However, not using Thunderbolt leads to Drifblim being completely walled by Normal-types. This Speed investment allows Drifblim to outspeed Choice Scarf Manectric after Unburden. Electric Seed allows Drifblim to easily trigger Unburden when Electric Terrain is up, and its Defense boost pairs well with Calm Mind and mitigates Drifblim's weakness to Knock Off.
Pincurchin is mandatory as a teammate due to Drifblim needing Electric Terrain to trigger Unburden. Due to special walls often being able to take Drifblim's boosted attacks and retaliate with status, Drifblim prefers being paired with Pokemon that share checks with it, such as special sweepers like Thievul and Swoobat and wallbreakers like Manectric and Raichu, to break through specially bulky Pokemon. In particular, Rising Voltage from the aforementioned wallbreakers is invaluable for facilitating a Drifblim sweep, as they can overpower checks such as Miltank and Spiritomb, while Drifblim can clean up any remaining threats. Pokemon that can force out Dark- and Normal-types such as Sawk and Alolan Persian are also appreciated teammates. Finally, pivots such as Uxie make good partners, as they can create setup opportunities for Drifblim by giving it a free switch into a favorable matchup.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Destiny Bond allows Drifblim to sacrifice itself to eliminate checks such as Skuntank and Rhydon in the event they stop its sweep, but it is difficult to justify over any of Drifblim's other moves.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Walls**: Without Substitute or multiple boosts, special walls such as Clefairy and Stunfisk easily tank Shadow Ball and cripple Drifblim with status. Drifblim particularly struggles with bulky Normal-types such as Miltank, as they can easily take a boosted Thunderbolt and Toxic it in return, while Substitute sets are completely unable to damage them.
**Dark-types**: Physical Dark-types that can get past Strength Sap, such as Silvally-Dark, Shiftry, and Morpeko, can easily overwhelm Drifblim. Specially offensive Dark-types, such as Skuntank and Thievul, have no trouble breaking through Drifblim.
**Strong Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers that can hit Drifblim super effectively such as Manectric and Rhydon easily break through Drifblim even after a boost. However, these Pokemon must be kept healthy to check Drifblim.
**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers that can boost their Special Defense, such as Alcremie and Frosmoth, can easily turn Drifblim into setup fodder. Other setup sweepers, such as Ninetales and Rapidash, can't reliably defeat Drifblim, but can usually trade with it.
