[Overview]

Dugtrio's sole purpose in Ubers is trapping Eternatus. With Special Defense investment, Dugtrio is able to take a Dynamax Cannon even after Stealth Rock, meaning it can easily dispatch Eternatus after coming in with a smart double switch, on a teammate's U-turn, or when Eternatus is forced to recover. Reliably removing Eternatus lets strong sweepers and wallbreakers such as Kyogre, Ho-Oh, and Marshadow wreak havoc. Additionally, your own Eternatus can increase the pressure of Toxic Spikes without opposing Eternatus to absorb it. Dugtrio's trapping ability also makes it generally useful for picking off weakened Pokemon, and it has some nifty utility options, such as Memento to give a party member a free turn to set up. However, Dugtrio is very weak and therefore struggles against more offensive builds, and it is generally outclassed by more powerful Choice Scarf users such as Calyrex-S and Galarian Darmanitan. It is extremely frail and relies on teammate support, double switches, and revenge killing to come on to the battlefield. As such, Dugtrio is an extremely niche pick that functions best on teams that are dedicated to sweeping once Eternatus is removed.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake always 2HKOes specially defensive Eternatus. Stone Edge hits Flying-type Pokemon like Yveltal and Ho-Oh for good damage and has good offensive synergy with Earthquake. Memento is a great move to allow a free turn of setup for one of Dugtrio's teammates. It can also be used in an emergency to stop a setup sweeper in its tracks. For the last moveslot, Toxic can be used to cripple a threat that Dugtrio can't do much damage to, such as Groudon or Zygarde. Beat Up is an interesting option to easily dispatch SubSeed Calyrex-S, which, while rare, can wreak havoc on an unprepared team. Stealth Rock can fit an entry hazard on teams that have a hard time fitting one. Locking into Stealth Rock is not a big concern thanks to Arena Trap preventing a setup sweeper from coming in. The given EVs allow Dugtrio to outspeed +1 positive nature base 90s, such as Zekrom, and always survive a Dynamax Cannon from an uninvested Eternatus after Stealth Rock.

Dugtrio needs teammates that thrive when Eternatus is gone. Kyogre is the most notable example, as Eternatus is the main answer to its powerful Water Spouts in the tier. Kyogre can significantly damage Eternatus on the switch, forcing it to either use Recover or attack; in either instance, Dugtrio can come in and KO Eternatus. A similar concept can be done with Pokemon such as Dracovish, Ho-Oh, and Marshadow. In general, hitting Eternatus with a strong attack to force it to use Recover is the best way to get Dugtrio on the field, as this prevents Cosmic Power sets setting up on Dugtrio switching in. Bulky teammates such as Buzzwole and Zarude provide nice defensive utility for your team, and both have the potential to sweep with Bulk Up once Eternatus has been eliminated. Toxic Spikes Eternatus makes for a fantastic partner, as the opposing team will have no way to absorb Toxic Spikes with their own Eternatus down. Additionally, Toxic Spikes can somewhat help with Dugtrio's weaknesses against offensive teams. Eternatus can also switch into Kyogre, which Dugtrio can attract. Dugtrio appreciates pivots to let it come into battle safely. U-turn users such as Yveltal and Corviknight and Teleport users such as Blissey can do this.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Choice Band can be used for greater power, and it makes targets such as Blissey and Cosmic Power Eternatus much easier to trap. However, the lessened Speed makes Dugtrio lose a lot of utility against offensive Pokemon, and it risks being outsped by its main target, Eternatus. Sucker Punch can be used for its priority, although it is generally not as useful as the moves listed above. The main target would be Choice Scarf Calyrex-S; however, as a Ghost-type, it cannot be trapped. Rock Slide can flinch and is more accurate than Stone Edge; however, Dugtrio generally needs all the power it can get.

Checks and Counters
====

**Teams Without Eternatus**: Dugtrio doesn't have a check in the traditional sense thanks to Arena Trap trapping foes. However, it is almost useless if there's no Eternatus for it to trap. Offensive teams in particular enjoy the opposing revenge killer being unable to significantly damage most of their sweepers.

**Draco Meteor Eternatus**: While rare, Eternatus that has Draco Meteor can OHKO Dugtrio. Dugtrio could still KO a weakened Eternatus or come in on one that has already used Draco Meteor, but Draco Meteor does severely limit its ability to trap Eternatus.

**Cosmic Power Eternatus**: If Eternatus has set up Cosmic Power, it will usually have the bulk to tank repeated Earthquakes from Dugtrio. However, Eternatus needs to make sure it has enough HP to do this. Also, if Eternatus is forced to use Recover by one of Dugtrio's teammates, it puts itself at risk of being trapped without being able to set up a Cosmic Power on the switch.

that said, these things should be mentioned or changed before you get 2/2:

  • when you write up the overview, you need to highlight better that dugtrio is like. RLY niche. like you're only ever gonna see it on a balance or very fringe stall team and it's only really effective at doing one thing. it doesn't even ohko zekrom, for instance, and the only other real target it has is the rare heatran (regieleki too, which you should mention, but that can 2hko with assurance if it catches your switch-in and can boom to trade with you). it's almost the case that it's a mon we had to write an analysis for cause OU banned it, but the eternatus-trapping niche does give it a slight edge over stuff like dawn wings. i've used dugtrio before and it's very hard to justify on a team.
  • i would mention that, if you can fit it, you realistically want another rocks user with dugtrio. in practice, a lot of the time when dugtrio is setting rocks it's doing it suicidally. this isn't so ideal in a metagame with very sturdy defoggers and a few good spinners, but it does have fringe use and can reward good predictions (such as, for instance, baiting ho-oh to switch out of a stone edge and then rocking as it does)
  • change the spread slightly. 248 Atk / 4 Def / 132 SpD / 68 Spe is better cause it only has a 6.3% chance to get ohko'd by defensive etern dmax cannon after rox (4 SpA Eternatus Dynamax Cannon vs. 0 HP / 132 SpD Dugtrio: 169-199 (80 - 94.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock vs 4 SpA Eternatus Dynamax Cannon vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Dugtrio: 201-237 (82.3 - 97.1%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock). etern is your only realistic target so this is more optimal than hp. you could drop the attack slightly to avoid any chance of ohko, but then that gives you worse odds vs physdef eternatus (244+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 48 HP / 244+ Def Eternatus: 222-264 (51.2 - 60.9%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery vs 248+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 48 HP / 244+ Def Eternatus: 224-266 (51.7 - 61.4%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery), so i don't like it as much. putting 4 more EVs in either atk or sdef is superfluous, so i chucked them in def cause idk maybe you'll live a rando hit from something
  • you do already mention yveltal as a teammate, but i'd mention snarl+u-turn yveltal in particular, as well as other spa-lowering mons like mystical fire eternatus and confide blissey. when offensive eternatus is at -1 spa, dugtrio has pretty nice odds of beating it (-1 252 SpA Life Orb Eternatus Dynamax Cannon vs. 0 HP / 132 SpD Dugtrio: 175-207 (82.9 - 98.1%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock), whereas you otherwise have to rely on revenge killing it (248+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eternatus: 312-368 (74.1 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO).
    • furthermore, your mention of draco meteor eternatus as something that beats dugtrio is good, but i'd also mention that life orb eternatus wins too unless you chip it beforehand/you can't switch into it unless it's -1 spa.
  • i would move beat up to oo as i think both toxic and stealth rock are much more desirable. subseed caly is mad fringe and bringing dugtrio in on it telegraphs that u have something to beat it anyway, so realistically it just switches.
this sounds like a lot of stuff but it's actually all pretty minor, good job on this!

  • With HP investment, Dugtrio is able to take a Dynamax Cannon, even after Stealth Rock
  • Thus, Dugtrio can easily dispatch Eternatus after coming in with a smart double switch, U-Turn/Teleport, or by damaging Eternatus enough to force it to recover
  • Having a reliable way to remove Eternatus from the game will let strong sweepers and breakers such as Kyogre, Ho-Oh, and Marshadow wreak havoc. Having an opposing team's Eternatus gone can allow your own Eternatus to increase the pressure on their team by laying down Toxic Spikes that can no longer be absorbed on switch-in.
  • Dugtrio's trapping ability also makes it generally useful for picking off weakened Pokemon
  • Dugtrio can revenge kill certain offensive threats like Zacian locked into Wild Charge or weakened by Close Combat, or Zekrom.
  • Dugtrio has some nifty utility options, such as Memento giving a party member a free set-up, or Stealth Rock as a option for teams that can't fit it These few points above could maybe be a little more condensed in terms of detail as the set comments should touch on all of this, but it's still fine content wise so this is a minor suggestion
  • However, Dugtrio is very weak for Ubers standards,this mon weak in general lol and as such, it will struggle against more offensive builds that don't typically use a specially defensive Eternatus, and it is outclassed there by more powerful Choice Scarfers such as Calyrex-Shadow Rider or Kyogre.
  • Dugtrio is extremely frail and relies on teammate support, double-switches, and revenge killing to come on the battlefield.
  • As such, Dugtrio is an extremely fringe pick, that functions best on teams that are dedicated to using it's strengths to remove Eternatus to allow another Pokemon to sweep.

  • Stone Edge forms excellent secondary coverage, hitting flying Pokemon like Yveltal and Ho-Oh for good damage.

  • Beat Up is an interesting option that allows Dugtrio to easily dispatch SubSeed Calyrex-Shadow Rider. While SubSeed Calyrex-Shadow Rider is rare, it can wreak havoc on an unprepared team, so Beat Up is a nice option to have just in case. It also tends to be quite strong, as most Ubers have at least decent Attack stats. nitpick but move this below rocks and Toxic since it's not a main option
  • Stealth Rock can be a nice option to fit a hazard in on teams that have a hard time fitting it. Locking yourself into a non-attacking move with a Choiced Pokemon is usually frowned upon, but Dugtrio avoids most of the flaws of this thanks to Arena Trap preventing a set-up sweeper coming in.
  • Toxic could be used to cripple a threat that Dugtrio would otherwise not be able to do much damage to, such as Groudon or Zygarde.
  • The given EVs allow Dugtrio to outspeed +1 positive nature base 90 Pokemon, such as Zekrom. An Adamant Nature and near max attack is used so that Dugtrio can hit as hard as possible, especially considering it only has a base 100 attack stat. The rest is thrown into HP, and it just so happens that it allows The rest of the EVs are invested into Special Defense, allowing Dugtrio to always live a Dynamax Cannon from an uninvested Eternatus after Stealth Rock. I feel like vish is probably a better mention since CB Ho-Oh already requires a ton of support from things like Defog spam or Xatu, making duggy a hard fit that doesn't cover for zyg which is the best cb Ho-Oh switch in

  • Stat lower moves, such as Snarl from Yveltal or Confide from Blissey, can be used to allow Dugtrio to trap Offensive Life Orb Eternatus sets on the switch-in.

I'd just add a mention of more defensive pivots in the teammates section that appreciate Eterantus being gone like Buzzwole and Zarude, since that's one of their main stops as bulky set up mons

**Cosmic Power Eternatus**: If Eternatus has set up Cosmic Power, it will usually have the bulk to live tank repeated Earthquakes from Dugtrio. However, Eternatus needs to make sure it has enough HP to do this. Also, if Eternatus is forced to use Recover by one of Dugtrio's teammates, it puts itself at risk of being trapped without being able to set up a Cosmic Power on the switch.

Fewer double spaces left over than last time, but again just make sure to be cognizant of that when implementing my check. GP 2/2 once you have.

[Overview]

Dugtrio's one and only sole purpose in Ubers is trapping Eternatus. With Special Defense investment, Dugtrio is able to take a Dynamax Cannon (remove comma) even after Stealth Rock,(period -> comma) Thus meaning it can easily dispatch Eternatus after coming in with a smart double switch, on a teammate's U-turn, or forced Eternatus Recover when Eternatus is forced to recover. Reliably removing Eternatus lets strong sweepers and wallbreakers such as Kyogre, Ho-Oh, and Marshadow wreak havoc. Additionally, your own Eternatus can increase the pressure of Toxic Spikes without opposing Eternatus to absorb it. Dugtrio's trapping ability also makes it generally useful for picking off weakened Pokemon, and it has some nifty utility options, such as Memento to give a party member a free setup turn to set up. However, Dugtrio is very weak and therefore struggles against more offensive builds, and it is generally outclassed by more powerful Choice Scarf users such as Calyrex-S and Galarian Darmanitan. It is extremely frail and relies on teammate support, double switches, and revenge killing to come onto the battlefield. As such, Dugtrio is an extremely fringe, niche pick that functions best on teams that are dedicated to sweeping once Eternatus is removed.

[SET COMMENTS]

Earthquake always 2HKOes specially defensive Eternatus. Stone Edge forms excellent coverage, hitting hits Flying-type Pokemon like Yveltal and Ho-Oh for good damage and has good offensive synergy with Earthquake. Beat Up is an interesting option to easily dispatch SubSeed Calyrex-S, which, while While SubSeed Calyrex-S is rare, it can wreak havoc on an unprepared team, so Beat Up is useful. Stealth Rock can fit an entry hazard on teams that have a hard time fitting one. Locking into Stealth Rock is not a big concern thanks to Arena Trap preventing a setup sweeper from coming in. The given EVs allow Dugtrio to outspeed +1 positive nature base 90s, such as Zekrom, and always live survive a Dynamax Cannon from an uninvested Eternatus after Stealth Rock.

Dugtrio needs teammates that thrive when Eternatus is gone. Kyogre is the most notable example, as Eternatus is the main answer to its powerful Water Spouts in the tier, and it is much more free to heavily damage the opposing team with Eternatus gone. U-turn users such as Yveltal and Corviknight (remove comma) and Teleport users such as Blissey (remove comma) can do this.

Other Options
====

Choice Band can be used for its higher greater power, and it makes targets such as Blissey and Cosmic Power Eternatus much easier to trap.
