Durant's high Speed tier, powerful attacks, and great coverage give it a solid niche in the RU tier as a wallbreaker capable of performing well against common offensive teams. First Impression is brutally powerful priority that allows Durant to wipe out the likes of Zygarde-10%, Xurkitree, and Raikou before they have a chance to attack, while also dealing hefty damage to Seismitoad and Suicune looking to switch into Durant. Iron Head removes bulky Fairy-types like Togekiss, Sylveon, and Galarian Weezing. Superpower crushes Steel-types such as Registeel, Steelix, and Stakataka. Stomping Tantrum hits Poison- and Fire-types such as Toxtricity, Darmanitan, and Entei for super effective damage. Crunch is an alternative option that can still hit these Poison- and Fire-types for neutral damage while pummeling Reuniclus beyond the first turn, preventing it from stalling with recovery moves until Durant misses, while also hitting Thundurus for hefty neutral damage. Both Stomping Tantrum and Crunch hit Metagross, Chandelure, and Doublade. Choice Band can turn Durant into more of a hit-and-run attacker with a little more longevity, but the inability to switch moves can not only make Durant easier to play around, but also make it riskier to revenge kill offensive threats with First Impression.
Durant appreciates teammates that can handle Fire-types and faster special attackers. Water-type teammates like Volcanion, Milotic, and Seismitoad are very helpful to take on Fire-types. Volcanion keeps up offensive pressure and can spread Toxic to bulky Water-types trying to handle Durant, while Milotic is capable of bringing Durant in via Flip Turn. Seismitoad can reliably set up Stealth Rock while checking Raikou, a common faster special attacker that is capable of revenge killing Durant easily. Noivern assists with revenge killing against offense, can get Durant in on Fairy-types with U-turn, and is able to check Fire-types. Late-game cleaners, such as Choice Scarf Zarude, Mienshao, and Darmanitan, can capitalize on the holes Durant will usually punch in the opposing team and all can bring Durant into battle via U-turn. Durant can revenge kill many offensive threats, but it's advisable to have additional answers to faster Pokemon capable of taking at least one First Impression; like Thundurus, Mienshao, Noivern, and Darmanitan. Noivern can be easily held in check by the likes of Nasty Plot Togekiss and Diancie with Diancie being particularly notable for setting Stealth Rock and checking Fire-types for Durant. Choice Scarf Mienshao can be handled by Fairy-types like the aforementioned Togekiss, as well as Sylveon and Galarian Weezing. Roserade using Synthesis can handle Thundurus's pivot set effectively while setting Spikes to chip down threats, such as Galarian Slowbro and Cobalion, into Durant's KO range. Zygarde-10% is a great Thundurus check that can also check Fire-types and join forces with Durant to put heavy pressure on bulky Water-types. While Durant is more at home on offensive teams, Porygon2 is a notable defensive partner for its ability to check faster special attackers, like Choice Scarf Xurkitree and Noivern, and use Teleport to keep up momentum and help Durant get into battle easily.
