Durant (QC 2/2) (GP 2/2)

[OVERVIEW]

Hustle, great Speed, a fantastic movepool, and First Impression make Durant a wallbreaker with no true counters and one of the best revenge killers in RU. It can easily snipe sweepers such as Dragon Dance Flygon, Autotomize Necrozma, Swift Swim Barraskewda, Chlorophyll Shiftry, and Slush Rush Arctozolt, which are often faster than Choice Scarf users. Durant‘s defensive shortcomings create several issues for it, though. Firstly, Durant has difficulty finding switch-in opportunities due to its low bulk, vulnerability to residual damage, and Life Orb recoil. Additionally, its lack of defensive utility as a Steel-type renders it a burden to its team, as it’s incapable of checking threats such as Togekiss and Noivern. Finally, Hustle makes Durant quite inconsistent; a miss can result in it getting KOed right back.

First Impression is primarily a revenge killing tool but is also Durant’s strongest STAB attack. It, when followed by Superpower, allows Durant to KO every relevant bulky Water-type and Reuniclus. Iron Head is necessary coverage for Fairy-types and keeps Pokemon such as Heracross and Golurk from easily withstanding Durant's attacks. Superpower is essential for Steel-types and does hefty damage to bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Milotic once First Impression has been used. Stomping Tantrum provides important coverage for threats such as Chandelure, Toxtricity, Doublade, and Volcanion. It becomes stronger than Durant's STAB attacks if the previous attack missed, creating one of the only situations where a Hustle miss can be advantageous.

Providing Durant with switch-in opportunities to wallbreak is essential. Xurkitree, Noivern, and Flygon make for exceptional partners due to their pivoting abilities and offensive synergy. Flygon and Noivern in particular can withstand Fire-type attacks aimed at Durant. Durant has a tendency to be worn down quickly, so clearing or deterring entry hazards makes it more effective. Dhelmise is a solid Rapid Spin user with good offensive synergy, as it deals with Water-types such as Gastrodon that may make problems for Durant in a one-versus-one situation. Xatu keeps entry hazards away and provides necessary pivoting support with U-turn or Teleport.

Choice Scarf can be used to focus on Durant’s role as a revenge killer, but it is largely redundant given its access to First Impression. Choice Band can be used for greater power and better resilience to residual damage, but it makes First Impression exploitable and Stomping Tantrum unable to synergize with Hustle misses. Rock Slide can be used to have a chance to KO Noivern, Crobat, and Talonflame, but Stomping Tantrum's coverage is usually more important.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fast Flying-types**: Noivern and Crobat can switch into every attack except for Iron Head and scare Durant out, and Talonflame has a strong matchup due to Flame Body and its resistance to every attack on the standard set, only fearing the rare Rock Slide.

**Fire-types**: Volcanion can defeat Durant one-on-one, and sun teams fare well against Durant due to the primary setter, Torkoal, having a similarly favorable matchup. Salazzle can withstand any one attack except Stomping Tantrum and is both faster and quadruply resistant to First Impression. Incineroar can switch into Durant’s attacks at least once and soften its blows thanks to Intimidate.

**Faster Attackers**: Raikou, Starmie, Choice Scarf Xurkitree, and +1 Speed Sharpedo are faster than Durant and can revenge kill it. Sharpedo in particular has a favorable one-versus-one matchup due to Protect shielding it from First Impression.

**Residual Damage**: Durant lacks any true counters, but restricting the amount of times it can switch in can help contain it. Stealth Rock, Spikes, and even hail damage stack very quickly alongside Life Orb recoil, limiting the amount of damage Durant can do.

mention in overview that it requires lots of support in builder to cover specially offensive threats like noivern, togekiss, gardevoir, etc.

in checks and counters, fire-types are prob worth a special mention due to resisting both STABs and threatening it out. lazzle and scarf darm/chandy outspeed (tho they’re frail and lazzle is quad ground weak), so i think they would be good to discuss in either the faster attackers section or a separate fire-types section. entei / arcanine handle durant better but those are not as relevant as the other checks and counters so prob not worth a mention

This looks great to me, qc 1/2

Durant‘s success in RU dates back to the tier’s very inception - it has since remained a top tier wallbreaker. Its low defensive stats, vulnerability to residual damage and Life Orb recoil means bulk and vulnerability to entry hazards and Life Orb recoil mean it can seldom make use of its defensive typing to switch in on its own. First Impression is primarily a revenge killing tool but is also Durant’s strongest STAB attack. This, in conjunction with It, alongside Superpower, allows Durant to KO every relevant bulky Water-type, (comma) while dealing with defensive stalwarts such as and Reuniclus. Iron Head is used over a second Bug-type STAB due to the way it compliments the other coverage moves on the set. Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Diancie, and Weezing-Galar would be harder to take down otherwise, while Pokemon such as Heracross and Golurk would be able to withstand Durant‘s attacks more easily. necessary coverage for Fairy-types and keeps Heracross and Golurk from switching in confidently. Superpower is essential coverage for opposing Steel-types, (comma) while acting as supplemental coverage in a situation where Durant has already used First Impression; in this case, Superpower can do well over 50% against defensive targets such as Gastrodon and Milotic that would normally be able to stomach the other attacks and does hefty damage to bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Milotic once First Impression has been used. Stomping Tantrum provides important coverage for threats that the first three attacks don’t handle well, such as Chandelure, Toxtricity, Doublade, and Volcanion. Due to the effects of Stomping Tantrum, it creates one of the only situations where a Hustle miss can be advantageous, in which it doubles in power, making it stronger than any one of Durant‘s STAB attacks It becomes stronger than Durant's STAB attacks if the previous attack missed.

Providing Durant with switch-in opportunities to capitalize off its wallbreaking capabilities wallbreak is essential. Xurkitree, Noivern, and Flygon make for exceptional partners due to their pivoting abilities in addition to their and offensive synergy. Flygon and Noivern in particular can withstand Fire-type attacks aimed at Durant. Xatu, (comma) on the other hand, keeps entry hazards off away and provides necessary pivoting support with either U-turn or Teleport.

Durant's Hustle ability, great Speed, a fantastic movepool, and access to First Impression make it Durant (I think it probably reads better worded this way) a wallbreaker with no true counters (saying it has no counters is a really strong statement, it might be better to say "that is incredibly difficult to counter" or "no true counters") and one of the best revenge killers in RU.
