Latios (M) @ Expert Belt
name: Expert Belt (Dragon)
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Luster Purge
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Recover / Energy Ball
[SET COMMENTS]
Latios blasts through Flying, Ground, and Balanced Water teams with less reliance on prediction when using an Expert Belt! Luster Purge's SpD drop complements well with its coverage, as it sets up KOs on Corviknight, Primarina, Assault Vest Iron Hands. Ice Beam hits Gliscor and Dragonite, completing its coverage against Flying teams. Recover lets Latios be less threatened by repeated Knock Offs from Assault Vest Tornadus-T, allowing Latios to remain a threat throughout the match. Alternatively, Energy Ball OHKOes Swampert and Gastrodon, Water's best answer to Thunderbolt, after minimal chip damage.
While Expert Belt Latios excels in breaking Flying and Balanced Water teams, it fails to be as threatening in matchups like Fighting and Poison due to being unable to deal significant damage to Assault Vest Gallade and Alolan Muk without Choice Specs. Wallbreakers like Choice Specs Dragapult and Garchomp help, as Dragapult forces these checks to get worn down over time and also deals with faster threats like Choice Specs Flutter Mane and Greninja. On the other hand, Garchomp deals with Steel-types like Gholdengo and Hisuian Goodra which Latios struggles against, and can run Spikes to wear down opposing teams or Swords Dance to clean up types like Flying after Corviknight has been dealt with. Archaludon deals with Meowscarada and Choice Scarf Roaring Moon, slows down threats like Ogerpon-H and Roaring Moon with Thunder Wave, and sets Stealth Rock to wear down Latios's checks like Assault Vest Tornadus-T. In return, Latios purges Fighting- and Ground-types like Urshifu-R and Landorus. Hisuian Goodra tanks special attacks from faster threats like Darkrai, Dragapult, and Spectrier and loves Latios's ability to remove annoying threats like Gliscor and Garchomp. Choice Scarf Roaring Moon helps Latios get more chances to break opposing defensive cores as Roaring Moon lures in Toxapex and Skarmory which Latios can handle. Kommo-o can be considered as it breaks down Steel teams and packs priority to remove Greninja and Meowscarada which give Latios a hard time.

Earthquake catches and heavily damages typical switchins to Latios like Alolan Muk, Hisuian Goodra, and Heatran. However, losing out on Recover can make Latios have a harder time breaking bulky Flying teams. Life Orb paired with a Naive nature can also be used if using Earthquake as it guarantees an OHKO on Heatran a 2HKO on Hisuian Goodra and Alolan Muk after a Spike. Furthermore, a Life Orb-boosted Luster Purge followed by Thunderbolt eliminates Articuno and Empoleon if Luster Purge drops their Special Defense, which is something Expert Belt cannot achieve. However, Life Orb recoil limits the number of attempts Latios has to break down the opposing team and also reveals its item.
