In a metagame ruled by Incineroar and Landorus-T, Blastoise generally has an excellent offensive matchup. As long as Blastoise’s HP is high enough, very few Pokémon on the opposing team will appreciate being on the receiving end of a Water Spout, especially if you can boost it with a Drizzle or Rain Dance Pokémon. However, because of its middling speed, this set is best used with Tailwind support; also consider Lightning Rod support and a strong Tapu Fini answer such as Tapu Koko. Fake Out helps Blastoise’s partner set up Tailwind in front of threats like Tapu Koko, Mega Manectric or Kartana and outspeed them on the following turn. The set is heavily customizable, so make sure to check the other options!
- Any of the moves can be replaced with Protect. In particular, if Water Spout is central to your strategy, preserving Blastoise’s HP with Protect will be very valuable.
- Water Pulse is a much more reliable Water move than Water Spout; if you find yourself having trouble preserving Blastoise’s HP for strong enough Water Spouts, consider using it instead.
- Water Spout + Water Pulse is also a great option for more flexibility, especially if your team doesn’t really need the additional coverage moves.
- Any of Ice Beam or Dark Pulse can be replaced by Aura Sphere for a better way to hit Snorlax.
- When paired with another Fake Out partner or Tapu Lele, Fake Out should be dropped (ideally for Protect).
Outspeeds Modest Choice Scarf Tapu Lele in Tailwind.

Mega Latias' heavy natural bulk, type resistances and high Special Attack give it a niche as both a support mega and a strong Psychic-type attacker. It sets itself apart from Cresselia by being a lot less passive, while also providing speed control with Tailwind. It's an excellent answer to Mega Charizard Y for teams that struggle with it, and will also help keep Rain teams in check. Psyshock is the STAB of choice since most Pokémon are currently heavily investing in special bulk. While Latias really shines in certain matchups, it struggles against some common threats such as Tyranitar, Incineroar and Mega Metagross, so make sure the rest of your team has the tools to deal with them; Landorus-T is an excellent partner, since it can freely Earthquake next to Latias.
Latias has access to a ton of support and coverage moves, making its set heavily customizable to fit your needs:
- If Tailwind doesn't really benefit your team, Calm Mind is a very good option; once the main physical threats on your opponent's team have been taken care of, Mega Latias can just win by setting up a couple of Calm Minds. It can also win a 1v1 Calm Mind war against Pokémon such as Tapu Fini thanks to Psyshock.
- Mega Latias has been featured on many teams that rely on heavy setup, such as Extreme Evoboost or other omniboosting Z-moves, where it usually copies the boosts with Psych Up and proceeds to sweep with Stored Power instead of Psyshock.
- Heal Pulse is a very good support option, especially given Mega Latias' high speed.
- Shadow Ball can provide nice coverage over Ice Beam, since it allows Latias to hit Mega Metagross, Aegislash and Tapu Lele for super effective damage, all of which otherwise wall it.
- On weather teams, Mega Latias can reset the weather in your favour with Sunny Day or Rain Dance.
- Other potentially useful support moves include Helping Hand and Ally Switch.

Despite a 4x weakness to Fairy, Hydreigon is able to shine in this metagame since the Dark typing is very good offensively against some top threats such as Aegislash, Cresselia and Mega Metagross. Black Hole Eclipse from Hydreigon can easily 1-hit KO all these threats or heavily dent anything that doesn't resist it. Furthermore, it is an excellent pairing for Ground types that want to use Earthquake thanks to Levitate. Earth Power can help handle Heatran, Tyranitar and Tapu Koko, while Draco Meteor is a strong option against Mega Salamence or to deal neutral damage in general. Be careful not to use it in Misty Terrain, however!
- Draco Meteor is an expandable moveslot, Flamethrower or Fire Blast being another very valuable coverage option to replace it.
- Both Draco Meteor and Earth Power can be replaced by Tailwind; this option should be heavily considered by any team that doesn't have another Tailwind setter.
- A Choice Scarf set is a viable option as well.
Outspeeds maximum speed Modest Tapu Lele.

Timid | Beast Boost | Focus Sash

IVs: 31/20/30/31/31/31 [HP Ice] (Hyper trained to 31/20/31/31/31/31)
EVs: 84 HP / 252 SpAtk / 172 Spe

Naganadel offers a great mix of offence and support. Its main appeal is the ability to set up Tailwind, but the ability to deal with all the Tapu Pokémon with Sludge Bomb and potentially become an all-around threat with Beast Boost gives it a lot of offensive value. Since your opponent is likely to target it quickly, a Focus Sash is an ideal item, especially since this set doesn't have Protect. Snarl should be used to disrupt your opponent before Naganadel goes down, providing the rest of the team potential opportunities to set up. Finally, Hidden Power Ice deals with Landorus-T, which is likely to be most opponents' main way of dealing with Naganadel.
- Protect is a valuable option for teams that don't need Snarl support.
- Hidden Power Ice can be switched to Flamethrower or Fire Blast in order to deal with Aegislash.
- Ally Switch and Helping Hand are two other excellent options over Snarl, both of which are likely to be unexpected by your opponent.
- You may want to forego the support options and use Naganadel as a setup sweeper; in this case, give it Nasty Plot over Snarl and pick partners that can help protect it.
- Poisonium Z could help score an unexpected KO and get a quick Beast Boost, but the safety of a Focus Sash is extremely valuable to Naganadel.
- Draco Meteor can deal a lot of damage (if Misty Terrain isn't up), but should only be run with Dragonium Z, since the SpAtk drops are very detrimental.
This EV spread ensures a SpAtk Beast Boost while still outspeeding Mega Metagross.

Timid | Beast Boost | Choice Scarf

IVs: 31/0/30/31/31/31 [HP Ice] (Hyper trained to 31/0/31/31/31/31)
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Heat Wave / Shadow Ball / Hidden Power Ice / Overheat
In stock: 3
Blacephalon is a glass cannon, so try using it in situations where it can get one or a couple of quick KOs on key Pokémon before being taken down. Shadow Ball is usually the safest move to lock yourself into, but Hidden Power Ice can get a quick KO on Landorus-T, especially on Choice Scarf variants that were going for U-Turn (be wary of Assault Vest variants!), or on Mega Salamence. Heat Wave is better used with either sun support or when Blacephalon was kept in the back and can now finish off weakened opponents and get quick Beast Boosts. Overheat allows for a nuke that ensures a hefty amount of damage if Blacephalon is expected to go down at the end of the turn.
- Mind Blown is a tempting option due to its immense spread power, and may be worth it if your team features a Telepathy Pokémon to safely use the attack next to, or a Flash Fire user such as Heatran.
- Flamethrower is a more reliable Fire move that can be used over either Overheat or Heat Wave, depending on what you feel is less important for your team.
- After You is a very good tech move for the last slot and allows, in a pinch, to let Blacephalon's slow partner move first, which can completely turn a game around.
- Trick can be used to cripple the opponent's more defensive Pokémon.
- If you don't want to lock yourself into a move, try giving Blacephalon the Ghostium Z, and claim a KO with an extremely powerful Never-Ending Nightmare.
- On a non-choiced set, Substitute is a very good option to take advantage of an opponent's Protect or switch at any point.
Outspeeds +1 Speed Mega Salamence.

Depending on the matchup, Nihilego can win a game on its own when well-played, or be completely dead weight. Its coverage and high SpDef allow it to threaten a lot of the top Pokémon of the format, including the Tapus, Mega Charizard Y, Zapdos, Landorus-T and Salamence. However, it's completely powerless against the likes of Metagross, Tyranitar and Aegislash, making it often overlooked during teambuilding. Beast Boost can steamroll pretty quickly, but don't be afraid of switching out and losing the boosts when necessary, as Nihilego is usually best used to clean up the field once its checks are gone or weakened enough.
- A Choice Scarf can take Tapu Koko or the opponent's own Choice Scarf users by surprise, especially Landorus-T and Tapu Lele; it's also a very useful item to help Nihilego clean up in the late game. However, that makes Nihilego even harder to use, as it needs to be played more carefully.
- While it used to be a surprise tech move, Trick Room has become fairly common on Nihilego. The Focus Sash allows Nihilego to be a pretty reliable Trick Room setter, while also forcing some Protects or switches because it threatens the opponent offensively. Being fast, Nihilego rarely benefits from Trick Room itself, but it can be kept in the back afterwards to clean up once Trick Room is over.
- Acid Spray is useful to break past very bulky opponents when paired with a strong special attacker. It can be especially useful on a Choice Scarf set.
- Ally Switch can force some mind games and give you a free turn, but it's hard to find a slot worth sacrificing for it on Nihilego's moveset. Considering Earthquake is one of the most common ways of defeating Nihilego, it often won't achieve much in any case.

Pheromosa's speed is its main appeal, able to outspeed Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and Landorus-T, being able to OHKO the latter with Ice Beam. U-Turn provides momentum, resets potential Intimidates, and helps keep the Focus Sash intact. Since in many cases, Pheromosa can only 2-hit KO the opponent's Pokémon, weakening them before using anything other than U-Turn and Protect is key to get the most out of its presence on the field. Since Pheromosa fears any sort of priority attack, Tapu Lele is an excellent partner.
- Poison Jab can be used to hit the Tapus harder, but it won't reliably 1-hit KO any of them unless used with the Poisonium Z.
- If your team is very offensively oriented and lacks good switch-ins, U-Turn can be awkward to use. In that case, replace it with Lunge for a little extra damage and the big bonus of an attack drop.
- If you're fearless, High Jump Kick deals more consistent damage than Low Kick, especially to light foes such as Kartana, Porygon2 and Scrafty. However, hitting into a Protect can ruin your game plan in a heartbeat, and most of the Fighting-weak Pokémon of the current meta are hit hard by Low Kick.
- When opting for High Jump Kick, considering the Fightinium Z, since it patches the problem of hitting into an opponent's Protect, and also provides a powerful nuke. Without a Focus Sash, be prepared to trade your Pheromosa for whatever you manage to KO, though.
Outspeeds Choice Scarf Adamant Landorus-T and Modest Tapu Lele.

Staraptor is one of the most reliable lead partners for Trick Room teams; the idea is to Intimidate the opponent's physical attackers to lower the damage dealt to your Trick Room setter, and use Final Gambit right away to remove their biggest threat from the field. This not only ensures Trick Room will be reliably set up, but also offers a valuable free switch into your Trick Room sweeper of choice. If none of your opponents are particularly threatening, you may simply U-Turn and keep Staraptor in the back for when Trick Room expires. Since many Trick Room setters fear Tyranitar, Close Combat is there to deal with it instantly. Knowing the base HP of your opponent's Pokémon as well as their usual HP investment is very helpful in order to use Final Gambit reliably; anything with base 85 or less is guaranteed to get KOed (unless it has a Focus Sash).
- Whirlwind is a decent option if you fear your opponent trying to reverse your Trick Room instantly with their own. It can also come in handy to phaze setup sweepers such as Snorlax on the turn they set up.
- Staraptor gets access to both Rain Dance and Sunny Day; if your team struggles against weather, consider these! If you want to run Sunny Day to counter the opponents that lead with rain, move the Attack investment to Speed to guarantee outspeeding Modest Ludicolo and Adamant Mega Swampert in rain.
Outspeeds maximum speed Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T.

Note: On request, I can change the ability to Levitate.
What’s this, a Heatproof Bronzong!? Two reasons make Heatproof Bronzong a great choice: 1. The prevalence of Mega Charizard Y and Incineroar, and 2. The fact everyone tends to assume it has Levitate, and won’t use Ground attacks on it until they find out it’s Heatproof. Z-Trick Room is used to avoid being shut down by Taunt, but has the excellent benefit of an accuracy boost, making Hypnosis a lot more likely to hit afterwards. This allows Bronzong to set up Trick Room and start putting foes to sleep immediately after. Because Misty and Electric Terrains prevent sleep, Tapu Bulu is a great partner to counter both Tapu Fini and Tapu Koko and remove their terrains. Ally Switch adds to the support options Bronzong can provide its partner and creates mind games in a pinch.
- Rather than using Ally Switch, Gravity is a great option to make your Hypnosis very accurate and help out any Trick Room sweeper that relies on inaccurate moves (Heat Wave Camerupt, Play Rough Mawile, Rock Slide Stakataka, Power Whip Ferrothorn, Thunder/Focus Blast Ampharos…).
- If the additional accuracy from Z-Trick Room isn’t necessary for you, a Mental Herb also prevents Taunt, while Safety Goggles help against Amoonguss trying to Spore you as you set up Trick Room.
- Skill Swap is also a good option that allows you to reset a Terrain without switching or using your opponent’s Intimidate against them, or simply to disrupt and remove useful abilities from your opponents. On a Levitate Bronzong, this also gives you the possibility of passing Levitate to a Pokémon weak to Ground such as Heatran or Stakataka.
- If Amoonguss is causing your team trouble, you can move the SpDef investment to SpAtk and use Psychic in the last slot; this allows you to 1-hit KO Amoonguss with Shattered Psyche!

As a Trick Room setter, Reuniclus offers more offensive power than most other options. Psychium Z gives it some valued flexibility; if the opponent leads with a Taunt user to prevent Trick Room, Reuniclus can bypass it with Z-Trick Room. This will also grant it an accuracy boost, which makes Focus Blast a lot less scary to use, and ensures that common Dark types such as Tyranitar pose no threat. Alternatively, Reuniclus can set up a standard Trick Room and then unleash a Shattered Psyche. Since Tyranitar is often used as a lead in order to 1-hit KO Reuniclus before it sets Trick Room up, Fake Out support really helps it do its job reliably. Overcoat ensures Amoonguss can’t prevent Trick Room with Spore, and has the added benefit of preventing Sandstorm damage.
- Focus Blast could be replaced by Shadow Ball to hit Mega Metagross and Aegishlash or Energy Ball to hit Tapu Fini harder. With the prevalence of Incineroar, Focus Blast has however become the prime option.
- Helping Hand can provide valuable assistance to your Trick Room sweepers, especially if they’re meant to spam spread moves like Eruption or Rock Slide.
- Charm is an interesting option; when paired with Lurantis, it can instantly give it a +2 Atk boost in Trick Room, and can also be used to cripple opposing physical attackers.
- Ally Switch can allow to create mind games in a pinch.

Hitmontop fills many roles for his team: he lowers the opponent's damage output with Intimidate, offers Fake Out pressure every time he hits the field, takes care of any Fighting-weak Pokémon with a strong STAB Close Combat, ensures his partner get their attack off with Feint, and can protect you from spread moves such as Heat Wave, Rock Slide and Muddy Water with Wide Guard. The Eject Button serves not only to get a free switch, but most importantly to recycle both Intimidate and Fake Out once. His weakness to Fairy and Psychic, two very common types, is unfortunate, but when used in the right matchups, Hitmontop can support a wide array of teams.
- Helping Hand is another way Hitmontop can support his partner; both Wide Guard and Feint could be dropped for it, depending on what your team needs most.
- Because of how many good support options there are, it's difficult to make room for Protect on the moveset, but it can catch your opponents by surprise if they expect to target Hitmontop's slot with no drawback.
- Giving Hitmontop the Fightinium Z allows one big attack without the defense drops of Close Combat, and ensures Hitmontop won't be a passive presence on the field.
- Wide Guard could be dropped in order to give Hitmontop an Assault Vest and increase his staying power. In this case, teach him Stone Edge, Endeavor or Bulldoze as the last attack.

Ice Beam / Gunk Shot / Low Kick / Protect
Egg moves*: Toxic Spikes, Power-Up Punch, Camouflage, Mind Reader
In stock: 6
Thanks to Protean, Greninja is an extremely versatile offensive presence, as it can provide the STAB coverage your team needs. This set is physically-based, as Gunk Shot and Low Kick are premium moves for the current metagame, taking care of any Tapu, Tyranitar, and Snorlax, while Ice Beam handles almost any Landorus-T variant without investment. It goes without saying that Greninja is a glass cannon and will not tank hits well, though changing to a different type may help you survive a hit you otherwise wouldn't. Be wary of any Pokémon that outspeeds it, most prominently Tapu Koko, Mega Metagross and Choice Scarf users.
Greninja is blessed with a plethora of coverage options, so don't shy away from switching things up to support your team's needs:
- Rock Slide will deal with any variant of Mega Charizard Y, even those with heavy bulk. Thanks to Greninja's high speed tier, it may also provide you with a couple of cheeky flinches...!
- Dark Pulse is another great offensive option for the current metagame, as it will help you deal with Mega Metagross, Cresselia and Gothitelle. In this case, you may want to switch some of the EV investment over to SpAtk.
- Mat Block is a tempting option, especially since it's Greninja's signature doubles move. However, with several Pokémon having a higher speed tier, it's a very risky move to run; using it on a Choice Scarf set may be a better option!
- Water moves such as Scald and Hydro Pump can be decent options, though the Pokémon they hit are usually better handled with different, more widely useful coverage moves.
- If you would like to run a priority move, Shadow Sneak is a nice option, especially for the fact it makes you immune to Fighting-type attacks before getting hit. Water Shuriken is usually not worth having in the current metagame.

Egg moves*: Glare, Mirror Coat, Mean Look, Grassy Terrain
In stock: 6
Note: EV spread by Jamie Boyt.
Serperior might be a one-trick pony (well… snake), but it does that one thing so well that opponents will be forced to focus on it very quickly before it gets out of control. Leaf Storm with Contrary gives Serperior +2 SpAtk every time it’s used, so make sure to start boosting as quickly as possible, even if it’s on a foe that resists the hit; without boosts, Serperior is a pretty weak presence on the field. However, at +2, it already threatens Landorus-T and almost anything that doesn’t resist Grass. HP Rock allows it to hit Mega Charizard Y, which otherwise heavily walls it, and also serves to hit Zapdos, Mega Salamence and Incineroar. Be warned though, that with its mediocre base SpAtk, Serperior won’t 1-hit KO most of these threats with HP Rock even at +2, so you will either need more boosts or some chip damage beforehand. Taunt allows Serperior to prevent Trick Room and Tailwind from your opponent, both of which are a big bother to Serperior’s otherwise great speed tier. The Wide Lens ensure that you don’t miss Leaf Storm; those with experience using Serperior know how costly missing a single Leaf Storm is, so it’s best to prevent it from happening.
Regardless of its moveset, Serperior will end up mostly using Leaf Storm and Protect, so the rest of the moves are customizable.
- If missing Leaf Storm isn’t a concern to you (it should be!), a 50% berry can be a great choice to add to Serperior’s bulk.
- Serperior has access to both Light Screen and Reflect, and is a pretty good screen setter thanks to its high speed tier. Light Clay can be the item of choice when going this route.
- Glare is a great option for speed control, being able to paralyze Ground-types as well.
- Substitute is a great way to take advantage of a favourable board position, especially if you expect your opponent to adjust by switching out. It keeps Serperior safe for a turn and pairs well with a 50% berry.
- Nature Power provides more coverage and power than Hidden Power, but you will have to make sure to pair Serperior with a Tapu and try to have the right Terrain at the right moment.
- Serperior can use Swagger (which also benefits from the Wide Lens) and be paired with a Foul Play user such as Persian-A, which is then able to instantly deal double Foul Play damage!

Linoone is a fearsome, albeit frail setup sweeper, which's goal is very simple: Belly Drum and KO everything before they can even move with Extreme Speed. Easier said than done; make sure to support it with Fake Out and/or redirection to pull off the Belly Drum. You will also need a Tapu other than Lele on this team to ensure you can get rid of a potential Psychic Terrain, which prevents you from Extreme Speeding grounded opponents. Many bulkier Pokémon are able to tank a +6 Extreme Speed from Linoone, but it's certain to punch big holes through your opponent's team; you can take advantage of the fact your opponents will be forced to respect its offensive presence by using Protect and buying a free turn for its partner! Stomping Tantrum allows you to hit Mega Metagross, Tyranitar, Heatran, Aegislash and Mega Mawile.
- Throat Chop is an equally good coverage option over Stomping Tantrum, benefitting from a slightly higher base power and also hitting Mega Metagross and Aegislash for super effective damage. The tradeoff is that while you can deal more reliably with Cresselia and Gothitelle, Heatran and Tyranitar will be able to tank any one hit. Picking one move over the other comes down to what the rest of your team can handle.

Nidoking's set is pretty straightforward: it has 3 attacks that are super effective against a large portion of the metagame, hits very hard thanks to the combination of Sheer Force and Life Orb, and has the advantage of not being affected by Intimidate. Though it showed how potent it can be on its way to the Oceania Internationals finals, its middling speed and mediocre bulk make it tricky to integrate on a lot of teams. To patch its flaws, pair it with one or multiple Tailwind or redirection users, or learn to take advantage of its Timid nature, which ensures it naturally outspeeds most other Pokémon with middling speed such as Incineroar and Tapu Fini.
- A Choice Scarf could be used to take your opponents by surprise, though they could quickly take advantage of knowing you’re locked into a move, not to mention Nidoking then misses out of the extra Life Orb damage. If you find that option appealing, the last moveslot should be Thunderbolt or Flamethrower.
- If you like gambling, you could replace Ice Beam with Focus Blast to take Snorlax by surprise.
- Nidoking gets access to a few good support moves like Taunt and Helping Hand, but because of how frail it is, it’s much better used as an offensive presence.

Sacred Fire / Stone Edge / Stomping Tantrum / Protect
In stock: 3
In addition to checking Mega Charizard Y and 1-hit KOing it with Stone Edge, Entei offers the constant pressure of burning your opponents that try to switch in to tank Sacred Fire. Whether it be Landorus-T, Tyranitar or Salamence, none of them want to gamble with getting burned. Entei also offers good bulk, which is further boosted by the 50% berry. While its offensive potential can be disappointing in the current meta, it can really shine when paired with a Helping Hand user or when used in the sun alongside Mega Charizard Y. Stomping Tantrum is there exclusively for Heatran, which sun teams tend to struggle with.
- Since Stomping Tantrum is only useful against Heatran, it can easily be replaced; Bulldoze offers the potential for speed control, while Snarl is also a very useful support move (don't expect much damage from it, though!).
- When used on sun teams, Sunny Day is a decent option to manually reset the weather without having to switch out Charizard; if you expect your opponent to switch in their Politoed or Pelipper on that turn, it will place you in a very strong position!
- Roar is very useful to prevent both Trick Room and Tapu Fini from setting up.
- Scared of missing Stone Edge? Use the Rockium Z to guarantee your KO on Mega Charizard Y at all times (and on Zapdos sometimes).
Outspeeds maximum speed Modest Tapu Lele.

Rock Slide / Close Combat / Earthquake / Protect

While Terrakion is mostly used on "Terracott" teams (where Whimsicott uses Beat Up on Terrakion to get it to +4 Attack instantly), this set can work on any team that benefit's from Terrakion's typing and coverage. When going for a Terracott lead, many opponents will try to get rid of Terrakion as quickly as possible, so it's usually smart to Protect. However, if you feel like your opponent will predict this and double-target Whimsicott, you may try to take advantage of it. Keep in mind, a +4 Earthquake will usually do just a little under 50% damage to your Whimsicott partner. Another way of giving Terrakion Justified boosts is Mega Kangaskhan's Sucker Punch, which boosts Terrakion's attack by +2.
- Earthquake can be replaced by Stone Edge in order to have access to a stronger Z-move. However, at +4, Z-Rock Slide is already a very strong attack, and more coverage is usually preferred.
- Stomping Tantrum can be used over Earthquake if you want to avoid hitting your partner; it also hits slightly harder, being a single-target move.
- Quick Attack can also be used in the third moveslot to give Terrakion the option for priority.
- Both the Fightinium Z and the Groundium Z are good item options (in the latter case, Earthquake is preferable over Stomping Tantrum).
- Leaving the Wide Lens on can be a smart move, especially if you have another Z-Crystal user. Since Rock Slide misses can be extremely costly, Wide Lens helps a lot.

Acid Spray / Encore / Struggle Bug / Final Gambit
Egg moves*: Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Baton Pass
In stock: 8
This set is meant to be paired with Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, enabling Accelgor to outspeed everything thanks to Unburden and Acid Spray the opponent to facilitate the KOs for Tapu Lele. Thanks to Psychic Terrain, none of the Pokémon can be Faked Out, which creates difficult situations for the opponent. If any of them tries to predict your target and Protects, Encore punishes it on the following turn. Struggle Bug provides support, being a general nuisance for your opponent, and also breaking any Focus Sash (especially on Kartana). Final Gambit, when used at full HP, can instantly remove one of the foe's most threatening Pokémon from the field; notably, Accelgor is guaranteed to 1-hit KO any Tapu and Mega Metagross with Final Gambit, the latter which is otherwise very problematic for Tapu Lele.
- Struggle Bug is useful but not necessary. It can be replaced by Protect for some extra longevity or to preserve Accelgor's HP in the hope of using Final Gambit.
- An Electric Seed could be used to assist Tapu Koko instead of Tapu Lele. While this allows your opponent to use Fake Out, Tapu Koko has the advantage of not needing a Choice Scarf to outspeed most Pokémon. Whimsicott offers some competition as a Tapu Koko partner, however, since Prankster Fake Tears can be used in Electric Terrain.
- Rain Dance provides great utility for rain teams, or simply to make sure Mega Charizard Y causes no problem to your team as long as Accelgor is on the field.
- Accelgor has access to Knock Off, and while it won't deal much damage, it can be used to cripple Pokémon such as Snorlax, Cresselia and Porygon2.
Outspeeds Tapu Koko without Unburden; outspeeds everything with Unburden, including maximum speed Alolan Raichu in Electric Terrain.

Bisharp, just like Milotic, takes advantage of an opponent's Intimidate to become a strong offensive threat thanks to Defiant. However, Bisharp functions very differently, since it's almost always a strong offensive threat on the field, whether or not it benefits from the Defiant boost. This comes at the price of being very frail and should be expected to go down after dishing out a couple of big hits - make them count! It should usually be used as a lead and, once brought down to its Focus Sash, attempt to go out in style with a powerful Sucker Punch.
- A Life Orb could be used to further boost Bisharp's damage output, but guaranteeing a hit with a Focus Sash is usually more valuable.
