Ok so it seems now that Sauber will not get the 13th spot on the grid, because Toyota signed the concorde agreement before they quit, so they get priority in being picked, even though Sauber was bought months before Toyota quit. I smell bullshit.

The bullshit is that because Toyota signed the agreement, they have the right to sell the team to whoever they want (management buyout). The buying team will be considered Toyota's successor, therefore taking their spot of the grid (guaranteed by the Agreement), and bypassing the new team selection process (since it's technically not a new team).
This was not the case with BMW Sauber, since BMW announce their retirement mid-season and before the Concorde Agreement was signed, therefore having to apply as a new team. That would apply even if BMW had backed down and kept the team, Suber is totally blaimless here.

What we're looking here is at a possible auction for a F1 spot, and that does not smell good.

I just want Sauber back, they have the heritage, and Peter Sauber is a true racing man. Toyota were really just failures and although I hate to see all the employees lose their jobs like that, the fact that Sauber have been planning for next year, and been put in the shade over questionable teams like Campos and USF1 kinda pisses me off a little bit.

100% with you there. Sauber has been trough the rounds and proven their competitiveness over almost 20 years.
Proving that, they constantly beat the much better financed Toyota (what a waste of money... how couldn't they do better?) both before AND after the BMW partnership.
I was just stating the unfortunate fact that it's in Toyota's hands...

Sauber's problem is an awful combination of factors. First, BMW did not signed the CA, therefore not assuring their buyers a spot on the grid.

Second, lets not forget that until a few days ago, the team had been sold to Quadbak Investments, a shady corporation. And I understand FIA's suspicions over it...
They still consulted the other teams with urgence, with the intent of increasing the grid to 28 cars, but the constructers shared the same concerns. And they were right, because in the end it was all a scam, the leader of Quadbak intended on receinve the TV revenue and run for it.

And third, this was all done in short notice, they simply had no time.

There is, however, hope. Now that the Quadbak ghost is gone, the teams might accept the grid increase, given Sauber's history. Hell, for what's worth, they can even buy Toyota's slot, even tough 3-4 other teams (including a wealthy Serbian consortium) are after it.
Let's not forget that in 2006, the Super Aguri team was rejected at the beggining, but later accepted, alredy in 2006.

About Campos Meta and USF1:

- Campos has alredy assertained it's value in lower tier competitions, just like Manor GP. And hell, even if they fail, tell me someone that disliked Minardi :P
- I actually like USF1. Even tough I'm european, it's nice to see an american team going at it. Do you dislike them perharps because they will be the only ones without a HQ in England? :P

Btw, I think this thread should be renamed "F1 2010", no?

lol minardi, took them until last season to win... as torro rosso.
everyone loved minardi.
i would like sauber back too.
and why did toyota fail? no idea, they had some solid qualifying, they locked out the front row (the cars in front ARE toyotas lol), to lose from that position is really a stratigical issue thouugh, that and trulli was an unknown entity, whether he drove well or was utter rubbish varied, glock was a good stable driver.
saying that Toyota had 3 decent drivers, kobayashi hopped into the car and did very well, of all the drivers i want to see, i want kobyashi to return.

that and trulli was an unknown entity, whether he drove well or was utter rubbish varied, glock was a good stable driver.
Actually that's why i apreciate Trulli. Sure, F1 is all about reliability, but if it weren't for pilots like Trulli, Vettel, or Sutil the TV ratings would be much lower. The ability they have to make great GP's with worse cars is what makes F1 beautiful. Who cares if they crash on lap 1 of the following GP xD
Plus, it's not like Trulli has such bad results, he's somewhat stable IMO, with sudden quirks of speed. That and his awsome qualifications, he is probably the best qualifying expert in F1 atm.

F1 2010 would be very interesting unlike the years of Michael Schumacher, if you know what I mean. When you watch it, you will be like "Whatever, Michael Schumacher would win anwyay, so I don't have to watch it." Now things got much more interesting.

New points system looks WHACK. Something like

1. 25 pts
2. 20 pts
3. 15 pts
4. 12 pts
5. 9 pts
6. 6 pts
7. 4 pts
8. 3 pts
9. 2 pts
10. 1 pt

Of course, the best, and most important, story going into next season is that there will be a British Grand Prix, and at the mighty Silverstone.

And I'll be rooting for Mclaren too, since Hamilton/Button is worth salivating over, for any Brit motorsport fan, but I'll always have a soft spot for Lotus, and I like Ross Brawn.

It's gonna be an interesting season, ESPECIALLY if almighty Schumacher returns to the fray, and it's looking likely!

Yes, because it doesn't matter if everything is changing, drivers, teams, regulations and even the point system (it's confirmed), it's all about the UK, uh.

Yes, it has been confirmed. (source)

I think it's a good idea considering the extra teams on the grid next year. I especially like the gap between 1st and 4th, I think it's a much better system.

I think it's a good idea as well. Don't forget that this year we have a 26 car grid, the current system would mean that less than a third of the teams would get points. Most likely, that would result in several teams having their sponsorship removed due to lack of results...

Well apparently Renault ARE staying, and apparently MS has signed with Mercedes. I thought silly season usually ends around October lol?

Di Grassi confirmed as Virgin's 2nd driver, with Parente as test driver.
To be honest, I don't know if it isn't better for Parente like this. See it this way: with the huge amount of new teams, the first half of the championship will be just for them to get the right tune, and also to evaluate the quality of the new drivers. Staying in the back during this turbolence, with a test driver spot in one of the best financed teams, and with (probabaly) the best track simulator in the paddock, might just increase his value.

Also, Lotus confirmed Trulli and Kovaleinen. Too conservative IMO. While Trulli is a very experienced pilot, that can help a new team to mix in the field, the choice for Kovaleinen just sounds like they grabbed the first non-rookie they could.

Di Montezemolo has revealed that Schumi spoke to him and confirmed that it's a "very high possibility", that he would be moving to Mercedes. Could be interesting.

I reckon that this must be difficult for Schumi.
In one hand, we will get to drive for the Mercedes, the most prized manufacturer in germany (motorsport-wise), the mythical Silver Arrows. And more important than that, we will get to drive, period.
But on the other hand, to do it he will ahve to leave the team that has been there for him for more than 10 years.

Tough for us fans (except the tiffosi), it's nothing but sweet :)
