ferrothorn [qc 2/3]

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]

- With the introduction of the new dominant Fairy-type Pokemon in Gen 7, Ferrothorn's Grass/Steel typing allows it to be an anti-meta pick that beats common threats like Mega Gyarados, Tapu Lele and Mega Metagross.
- Unlike other Steel-types, Ferrothorn's Grass typing is useful for beating Ground-types like Donphan.
- Additionally, Ferrothorn's defenses are very helpful for taking strong hits like Z-Moves such as Porygon-Z's Breakneck Blitz.
- Offensively, Ferrothorn's passible Attack combined with a low speed stat allow it to use strong Gyro Balls.
- Unfortunately, that speed is often problematic, as Ferrothorn will almost never move first, and can't do much about Pokemon with Super-effective hits.
- Lastly, Ferrothorn's quad weakness to Fire allows it to have tough matchups against Pokemon like both Mega Charizards or Heatran.

Moves
========

- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's best recovery, and also drains opponents health.
- Combined with Protect, it can help beat enemy Pokemon's health by avoiding taking damage every other turn while still recovering with Leech Seed.
- Additionally, Protect can help scout enemy moves, recover HP if Ferrothorn is carrying Leftovers and weaken Z-Move damage.
- Power Whip is Ferrothorn's most consistent STAB Move, and beats the Water and Ground Types other Steels might struggle with, like Donphan and Mega Swampert.
- Finally, Gyro Ball is Ferrothorn's Steel Type move, and has great matchup vs faster Pokemon like Porygon-Z after a Speed boost.

Set Details
========

- Leftovers is a good way for Ferrothorn to passively recover HP, especially with Leech Seed.
- A Specially Defensive EV spread improves Ferothorn's matchup vs boosting special attackers like Porygon-Z and Magearna.
- Those who run Occa Berry for threats like Hidden Power Fire Tapu Lele might want to run 76 Defense EVs with a Relaxed nature to improve the Donphan and Golem matchup, as without Leftovers Ferrothorn can struggle to live an Earthquake into Tectonic Rage.
- Iron Barbs, Ferrothorn's only useful ability, helps Ferrothorn chip down Pokemon like Zeraora who frequently use contact moves.

Usage Tips
========
- Pick Ferrothorn against Fairy, Water and Electric-types that Ferrothorn resists the STAB moves of.
- Ferrothorn should often start off a game with a Leech Seed, which makes sure it can stay alive the whole game while doing damage.
- Simiarly, if you're worried about your opponent being able to do a lot of damage while you can't OHKO back, you should use Leech Seed, and maybe Protect after if you don't think they will use Setup Moves.
- Otherwise, if Ferrothorn is in a very favorable matchup versus a Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, it can just spam Power Whip until Gyarados dies, as Ferrothorn doesn't need to worry about spending time recovering with Leech Seed.

Team Options
========

- Ferrothorn absolutely needs teammates that can handle both forms of Mega Charizard, as it is a very common and problematic Fire Type. Because of this, Pokemon like Heatran and Mega Tyranitar are good teammates because they can handle Mega Charizard X and Y.
- Additionally, Primarina resists Fighting, a type that Ferrothorn often loses to, while Ferrothorn can help vs Water-types like Mega Gyarados and Greninja.
- Mega Metagross, Mew, and Landorus are also good partners because they can patch up Ferrothorn's weakness to Fighting.
- Physically bulky Pokemon like Mew or Zygarde-C can trouble Ferrothorn, so special attackers like Greninja can be good partners.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
- Grassium Z or Steelium Z are also good item slots to have more offensive presence if you don't want to rely on Leech Seed.
- Curse is a neat option to power up Gyro Ball because it raises Ferrothorn's Attack and lowers its Speed, while also raising its Defense.
- Instead of Curse, Iron Defense can raise Ferrothorn's defense faster but without the Speed Drop and Attack raise.
- Chople Berry gives Ferrothorn a better matchup vs Fighting Types like Mega Lopunny and Sawk. Ferrothorn can use Iron Barbs combined with Gyro Ball to have a surprisingly good matchup vs Fighting-types.
- Rest is a usable option to PP Stall out other stall Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Chansey.
- Magnet Rise can try to beat problematic Ground Types like Groundium-Z Landorus-Therian.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Fire Type Pokemon and coverage**: Pokemon like Mega Charizard are the bane of Ferrothorn's existance, as they can OHKO Ferrothorn. Additionally, Fire type coverage like Hidden Power on Pokemon like Magearna or Fire Punch on Golem will almost always win.
**Fighting Types: Even if it holds a Chople Berry, Ferrothorn will struggle against strong Fighting Types like Sawk, Mega Heracross and Terrakion.
**Substitute Users: Pokemon like Landorus-Therian can use Substitute on Ferrothorn's Leech Seed and use that opportunity to setup with moves like Bulk Up or Swords Dance.
**Physically defensive walls**: Physically defensive Pokemon, especially ones that set up or spread status like burn like Mew or Mega Sableye, can outstall Ferrothorn.
**Setup Attackers**: Ferrothorn sometimes can't do much vs Setup Pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp and Metal Sound Aegislash, and can faint to a strong Z-move.

Probably not going to add much since Ferrothorn is kinda weird to me

- Offensively, Ferrothorn's base 94 Attack combined with a base 30 speed no need to list base stats, fluff. Just say "Offensively, Ferrothorn can utilize its passable attack and very low speed to" allow it to have strong Gyro Balls. or something like that. Also, base 20 speed
- Unfortunately, that speed is often problematic, as Ferrothorn will almost never move first When does not moving first matter for a Pokemon like this? Explain something like "will almost never move first, causing it to miss KOing threats such as x, y and z".
- Lastly, Ferrothorn's quad weakness to Fire allows it to have tough matchups against Pokemon like both Mega Charizards or Heatran.

-Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's best recovery, and also drains opponents health.
- Combined with Protect, it can significantly reduce enemy Pokemon's health by avoiding taking damage every other turn while still recovering with Leech Seed
- Additionally, Protect can help scout enemy moves, recover HP if Ferrothorn is carrying Leftovers and weaken Z-Move damage.
- Power Whip is Ferrothorn's most consistent STAB Move, and beats the Water and Ground Types other Steels might struggle with, like Donphan is Donphan really a Pokemon it has issues with? Seems like you naturally wall and drain that and Mega Swampert. Also not sure how Mega Swampert is a mon Ferro struggles with, unless EQ does much more than I would think
- Finally, Gyro Ball is Ferrothorn's Steel Type move, and has great matchup vs faster Pokemon like Mega Gengar I would definitely find a better example, as Hypohex gar can easily cheese some wins, and you can't ohko with gyro that don't mind a Power Whip.

Set Details

- Leftovers is a good way for Ferrothorn to passively recover HP, especially with Leech Seed.
- However, against Pokemon A max Specially Defensive EV lolwut weird wording spread improves Ferothorn's matchup vs boosting special attackers like Porygon-Z can you beat Ghost-Conversion PZ? and Magearna A +6 Magearna almost always OHKOs with Twinkle Tackle. Is this a favorable matchup?.
- Those who run Occa Berry might want to run 76 Defense EVs with a Relaxed nature to improve the Donphan and Golem matchup. Why would you run Occa Berry? What does it do?
-Mention Iron Barbs and if that serves a purpose

Usage Tips
========
- Pick Ferrothorn against Fairy, Water and Electric-types that Ferrothorn resists the moves of such as?.
- If Ferrothorn is used against a Pokemon who resists Grass and Steel type moves such as?, you should use Leech Seed.
- Simiarly, if you're worried about your opponent being able to barely 2HKO you which Pokemon can do that?, you should use Leech Seed, and maybe wishywashy Protect after if you don't think they will use Setup Moves. Is Ferrothorn a Pokemon that inherently has many 50/50s? If so, you should definitely mention more info about that and what the 50/50 is
- Otherwise, if Ferrothorn is in a sure thing matchup versus a Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, it can just spam Power Whip until Gyarados dies, as the only move Mega Gyarados can really use to win would be Taunt, as Ferrothorn doesn't need to worry about spending time recovering with Leech Seed.

Team Options
========

- Ferrothorn absolutely needs teammates that can handle Mega Charizard, as it is a very common and problematic Fire Type.
- Because of this, Pokemon like Primarina, Heatran and Mega Tyranitar are good teammates because they can handle Mega Charizard X and Y. combine this into first bullet point

- Curse is a neat option to power up Gyro Ball because it raises Ferrothorn's Attack and lowers its Speed, while also raising its Defense. What move would Curse be used over?
- Instead of Curse, Iron Defense can raise Ferrothorn's defense, faster but without the Speed Drop and Attack raise.
- Toxic is a decent option to slowly but surely whittle your opponent down, especially with Leech Seed. So Toxic instead of Protect?
- Chople Berry gives Ferrothorn a better matchup vs Fighting Types like Mega Lopunny and Sawk. Since this is basically a lure set, go into a bit of detail with how to use Chople against Fighting types, so the reader is clear on how to win the matchup.
- Rest is a usable option to PP Stall out other stall Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Chansey.
- Magnet Rise can try to beat problematic Ground Types like Groundium Landorus-Therian.

Also, doesn't Lando-T just set up enough then Z into regular EQ? Seems like that would do the trick w/o sub on spdef ferro
**Physically defensive walls**: Physically defensive Pokemon, especially ones that spread status like burn like Mew or Mega Sableye, can outstall Ferrothorn.

Overall a p decent check, go into more detail with specific matchups and examples, also clarify if you need to predict against certain mons or if the matchup is guaranteed. Definitely clarify with matchups like Normalium PZ and Magearna so the reader knows how to specifically handle these very offensively capable mons

QC 1/3 unless you reject everything lol

It's a tank, it doesnt really need to move first. I also don't know if you need to mention the bit about Super Effective hits, because.. like.. what does that even mean? in contrary it can beat fire punch tyranitar shoutout to xsc. this directly contradicts the fact that you use occa berry as an item as well which helps it deal with super effective hits. Perhaps just mention that it's weak to common Fighting and Fire types and give some examples)
- Lastly, Ferrothorn's quad weakness to Fire allows it to have tough matchups against Pokemon like both Mega Charizards or Heatran.

Moves
========

- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's best recovery, and also drains opponents health.
- Combined with Protect, it can significantly reduce enemy Pokemon's health by avoiding taking damage every other turn while still recovering with Leech Seed. (rather than significantly reduce could you just say that it helps it outright beat opposing Pokemon)

Mention what matchups occa berry is used for. what does it beat with occa berry? if theres no relevant threats dont mention it.
- Iron Barbs, Ferrothorn's only useful ability, helps Ferrothorn chip down Pokemon like Zeraora who frequently use contact moves.

Usage Tips
========
- Pick Ferrothorn against Fairy, Water and Electric-types that Ferrothorn resists the STAB moves of.
- If Ferrothorn is used against a Pokemon who resists Grass and Steel type moves, you should use Leech Seed. (just resists, or aren't weak to? generally against pokemon you don't OHKO or 2HKO you want to leech. Maybe be more specific.)
- Similarly, if you're worried about your opponent being able to do a lot of damage while you can't OHKO back, you should use Leech Seed, and maybe Protect after if you don't think they will use Setup Moves.
- Otherwise, if Ferrothorn is in a sure thing matchup (dont say a sure thing matchup) versus a Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, it can just spam Power Whip until Gyarados dies, as Ferrothorn doesn't need to worry about spending time recovering with Leech Seed.
I think mention that if the opponent runs Taunt you shuoldn't leech seed and should instead attack right away.

Team Options
========

- Ferrothorn absolutely needs teammates that can handle both formes of Mega Charizard, as it is a very common and problematic Fire Type. Because of this, Pokemon like Primarina, Heatran and Mega Tyranitar are good teammates because they can handle Mega Charizard X and Y.

- Physically bulky Pokemon like Mew or Zygarde-C can trouble Ferrothorn, so Pokemon like Greninja can be good partners. What does pokemon like greninja mean. Be more specific and maybe add more potential partners.

I think you should comment on the downsides of these options, like what it loses out in comparison to the main set
Also Freddy is probably the only person to use this but confide/ z-confide is also an option to beat out special attackers without setup.
Also definitely mention grassium z

Checks and Counters
===================
**Fire Type Pokemon and coverage**: Pokemon like Mega Charizard are the bane of Ferrothorn's existence existance, as they can OHKO Ferrothorn. Additionally, Fire type coverage like Hidden Power Fire on Pokemon like Magearna or Fire Punch on Golem will almost always beat Ferrothorn win.
**Fighting Types: Even if it holds a Chople Berry, Ferrothorn will struggle against strong Fighting Types like Blaziken I wouldnt mention blaziken purely because its also a fire type, Mega Heracross and Sawk.
I think taunt users are notable, ok never mind none of them beat ferrothorn.
Also mention set up pokemon that can boost and defeat Ferro like garchomp and aegislash

mostly solid work, but I feel like theres some gaps in terms of examples and specificity.

  • Why is occa berry on there in the MAIN set???? its so niche its actually unfathomable why this could possibly be on there while grassium z or normalium isnt. occa beats one move on tapu lele that is literally under 10% usage. and maybe fire fang bandphan which no body runs (6% usage)... why in the hell would this ever be considered for the main set??? please remove this instantly and move it to OO. this is barely even worth mentioning. no idea how any other qc members let this go through.
  • - Ferrothorn should often start off a game with a Leech Seed, which makes sure it can stay alive the whole game while doing damage.
    - Simiarly, if you're worried about your opponent being able to do a lot of damage while you can't OHKO back, you should use Leech Seed, and maybe Protect after if you don't think they will use Setup Moves.
    combine these two into one sentence, also mention when ferrothorn SHOULDNT start with leech seed.
  • - Additionally, Primarina resists Fighting, a type that Ferrothorn often loses to, while Ferrothorn can help vs Water-types like Mega Gyarados and Greninja.
    sort of (?) GP but you dont mention primarina anywhere before and then start with "aditionally" when introducing it. either add something before or say that "prim is also a good teammate because...
  • - Grassium Z or Steelium Z are also good item slots to have more offensive presence if you don't want to rely on Leech Seed.
    we already talked about this b4 and yeah steelium isnt so hot since mimi and kyub are gone, replace it here with normalium for zconfide citing better magearna and porygon matchups, along with many other special attackers (even m agnezone believe it or not. helps with the matchup assuming they miss 1/3 msounds
  • **Fighting Types: Even if it holds a Chople Berry, Ferrothorn will struggle against strong Fighting Types like Sawk, Mega Heracross and Terrakion.
    252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Chople Berry Ferrothorn: 231-273 (65.6 - 77.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
    0 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (113 BP) vs. -1 4 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 378-446 (116.6 - 137.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO if you mean fightinium z its a nonset
  • **Setup Attackers**: Ferrothorn sometimes can't do much vs Setup Pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp and Metal Sound Aegislash, and can faint to a strong Z-move.
    you mentioned iron defense in your OO part, mention it again here as being able to deal chomp.
  • **Fire Type Pokemon and coverage**: Pokemon like Mega Charizard are the bane of Ferrothorn's existance, as they can OHKO Ferrothorn. Additionally, Fire type coverage like Hidden Power on Pokemon like Magearna or Fire Punch on Golem will almost always win.
    oh my... im guessing this was some oras thing but golem basically isnt a thing in general anymore so please dont mention it, especially not fire punch on it which is under the "other" category its move usage... if anything mention fire fang donphan which has higher usage although not by much. just use like fire blast naga as a better example.

fix these things and itll be much much better. shoot me a discord message when you're done and ill revisit it.
