[OVERVIEW]

- One of the metagame's premier entry hazard setters, able to set up Spikes or Stealth Rock reliably.
- Great defensive typing and stats lets it wall out a number of common Pokemon like Mega Crucibelle, Tapu Koko, Ash-Greninja, Rockium Z Necturna, and Caribolt, and further enables Ferrothorn to set up hazards.
- Has other great utility options such as Knock Off and Leech Seed to cripple incoming foes for teammates.
- Quad-weakness to Fire leaves it halted by the metagame's numerous Fire-types such as Heatran, Smokomodo, Volkraken, and Volcarona, and can very easily be shot down by coverage from Pokemon such as Jumbao and Zapdos.
- Very low Speed and only decent attack stat harms its offensive abilities, and means it will almost always be taking damage before attacking.
- Due to the common Focus Blast, Ferrothorn also struggles to check Psychic-types such as Tapu Lele and Mega Alakazam.

Moves
========

- Spikes is a solid entry hazard if the team is not in need of a Stealth Rock setter, weakening foes and punishing switch-ins with reliable chip damage.
- Stealth Rock is a similarly great entry hazard that pressures Fire-type switch-ins much more significantly, and also can work with other Spikes setters such as Arghonaut to create a hazard stacking core together.
- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery, sapping a foe's HP and wearing down more defensive Pokemon such as Heatran and Celesteela.
- Power Whip is STAB used to beat Water- and Ground-types such as Arghonaut, Greninja, Rotom-Wash, and Landorus-T.
- Due to Ferrothorn's low Speed, Gyro Ball is a potent STAB move that hits a large majority of the metagame quite hard, and can catch Fairy-types such as Jumbao and Tapu Lele on the switch-in.
- Knock Off can hamper foes by removing their items, crippling Pokemon such as Heatran and Celesteela.
- Protect lets Ferrothorn scout for Fire-type coverage as well as Z-moves, and can stall for more Leftovers or Leech Seed recovery.

Set Details
========

- Maximum HP EVs and 232 SpD EVs always makes Choice Specs Greninja's Dark Pulse a 3HKO from full health. Remaining EVs are put in Defense to increase physical bulk.
- Sassy Nature should always be run with Gyro Ball to help maximize its damage, but a Careful Nature should be used when Gyro Ball is not.

Usage Tips
========

- Ferrothorn should generally be coming in on weaker or resisted hits from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Caribolt, and Toxapex, who can struggle to get past its defenses. Keep in mind that that some perceived switch-ins like Mega Crucibelle can carry dangerous coverage against Ferrothorn, so make sure to scout sufficiently before switching in.
- Ferrothorn's largest priority early game should be to set entry hazards, both to support its teammates with chip damage and to force in entry hazard removers. It is generally better to lay a single layer of Spikes if a dangerous switch-in comes in, but more layers can be set otherwise to increase pressure.
- Once hazards are set, Knock Off or Leech Seed should be used to wear down incoming switch-ins or to cripple threats reliant on items to function.
- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main recovery option, so it should be the most used option against incoming switch-ins for Ferrothorn to stay healthy, allowing it to further wear down switch-ins and to set up hazards as neccessary.
- Power Whip and, if ran, Gyro Ball should mostly be used against predicted switch-ins in KO range, otherwise it is better to set Leech Seed to wear them down and switch out if neccesary.

Team Options
========

-Stealth Rock setters such as Landorus-T, Heatran, Mega Crucibelle, and Mega Diancie pair well with Ferrothorn, as they can work together in a hazard stacking core to make large amounts of pressure through chip damage. It also means that Ferrothorn deosn't have to run Stealth Rock.
-Ferrothorn serves as a solid defensive check to Electric- and Water-type Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Caribolt, and Arghonaut, so teammates who like these Pokemon removed work well with Ferrothorn. Some examples include Greninja and Volkraken.
- Volt Switch or U-turn support from Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Tornadus-T, and Tapu Koko help keep momentum for Ferrothorn's team and assist in getting Ferrothorn more safely.
- Wallbreakers such as Mega Medicham, Ash-Greninja, Volkraken, and Flame Orb Colossoil appreciate the Spikes support that Ferrothorn lays to soften up foes.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============

-Ferrothorn can run Stealth Rock alongside Spikes if Ferrothorn is the only possible setter of Stealth Rock on the team, but better setters are numerous and it either replaces an important STAB move or utility option for the moveslot, which limit Ferrothorn's usage.
- Hidden Power Fire can be used to surprise Kartana, but is otherwise useless.
-Thunder Wave is an interesting option that cripples offensive attackers reliant on Speed such as Volkraken, Kitsunoh, and Mega Crucibelle.
- Chople Berry lets Ferrothorn survive otherwise fatal hits from Pokemon such as Hawlucha, Mega Alakazam, and Mega Medicham. This should be run with Thunder Wave, as Ferrothorn can cripple them after the hit, allowing the rest of the team to deal with these threats much more easily.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Volkraken, Pyroak, Heatran, Volcarona, and Smokomodo can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves. However, Ferrothorn can chip them down with hazard damage and Leech Seed and remove their items when they switch in with Knock Off.

**Fire-type coverage**: Pokemon such as Aurumoth, Jumbao, Greninja, and Celesteela can all check Ferrothorn with their Fire-type coverage. However, Greninja must beware a super-effective STAB move on the switch in. Electric-types such Zapdos and Cyclohm are heavily resistant to Ferrothorn's STAB options, and can also deal massive damage to Ferrothorn with Fire-type coverage.

**Trappers**: Thanks to its ability Magnet Pull, Magnezone is able to stop Ferrothorn from switching entirely, and easily 2HKO it with Hidden Power Fire. It also takes very little from Ferrothorn's STAB attacks and can set up a Substitute almost for free. Keep in mind however that it does not like losing its item, and can be worn down significantly through Leech Seed and Protect. Pajantom can also lure out Ferrothorn for opposing Magnezone, so Ferrothorn must be particularly wary of this core.

**Grass-types**: Most Grass-types resist Ferrothorn's Power Whip, are slow enough to resist Gyro Ball and take no effect to Leech Seed. Mega Venusaur in particular is the best counter to Ferrothorn as it don’t particularly care about Knock Off and can easily KO back with Hidden Power Fire. While it doesn't like losing an item and is susceptible to paralysis, Kartana takes nothing from Ferrothorn's attacks and can easily force it out with Sacred Sword. Jumbao has to be wary of Gyro Ball, but is otherwise resistant to Ferrothorn's other moves and can KO it with Flame Burst and Focus Blast.

**Fighting-types**: Pokemon such as Hawlucha, Mega Medicham, and Revenankh threaten Ferrothorn as their STAB moves can easily KO Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn can run Protect to have an easier time dealing with High Jump Kick users, but should be careful of Hawlucha setting up instead.

**Wallbreakers**: Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound Flame Orb Colossoil can all overcome Ferrothorn’s bulk with super effective coverage or raw power.

**Set-Up Sweepers**: Set-up sweepers such as Swords Dance Landorus-T, Shift Gear Magearna, and Aurumoth can overload Ferrothorn with damage.

**Mega Sableye**: Thanks to Mega Sableye’s ability, Magic Bounce, Ferrothorn can set up neither entry hazards nor Leech Seed. Will-O-Wisp also hampers Ferrothorn's attack stat, making its Power Whip less effective, and cancels Leftovers recovery. It can also use Knock Off to remove its Leftovers entirely, and can stall out Ferrothorn with Recover.

  • Ferrothorn's functions as a wonderful defensive Pokemon thanks to its great defensive stats and typing which allows it to check powerful Electric-type and Fairy-type Pokemon in the metagame such as Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Rotom Wash, and Plasmanta. these examples are rather outdated, remove Rotom-W for sure.
  • Additionally, Ferrothorn's ability Iron Barbs lets it greatly discourage physical attackers name a couple while punishing weaker priority moves which ones and VoltTurn cores. it pressures VoltTurn with its resistance to Volt Switch and Iron Barbs, make this clear
  • It offers a number of utility options, as it can find many opportunities to set up hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock and remove an opposing Pokemon's items with Knock Off. put Leech Seed here too
  • Ferrothorn actually has a decent attack stat for a wall, meaning it can pressure the opposing team with Power Whip and Gyro Ball and doesn't become passive like other defensive hazard setters like Skarmory replace with something more relevant and Toxapex.
  • Ferrothorn is forced out by opposing Fire-types and Pokemon with Fire-type coverage, such as Volkraken, Heatran, Zapdos, Pyroak, and Volcarona, as they can easily KO it out due to Ferrothorn's 4x weakness to their moves. add on Greninja
  • Ferrothorn's poor speed means it consistently moves last in battle, which leads to it being worn down quite easily.

Moves
========

  • Thanks to Ferrothorn's defensive capabilities, it is one of the metagame's best Spikes setters, offering pressure through consistent chip damage upon switches. Spikes can be set quite consistently throughout a match, and can stack multiple layers together for maximum chip damage. also talk about how Spikes distribution is relatively low
  • Stealth Rock is also an option if you are lacking a dedicated setter, but Ferrothorn is generally better off setting Spikes if you have one already. make this more clear that you should run this only if you don't have another rocker
  • Leech Seed is Ferrothorn’s only viable form of recovery while wearing down opposing Pokemon’s HP, which maintains its longevity and is helpful late game.
  • Power Whip is an important STAB move for hitting troublesome Water types such as Greninja, Arghonaut, Krilowatt, and Rotom-Wash remove the Rotom-W mention, as well as applying offensive pressure against switch-ins and other opponents this is vague, just say that it's a pretty reliable attack. add that it hits Colossoil too
  • Knock Off is able to wear down switch-ins and remove an opponent's item, crippling their capabilities. mention that it wears down Pajantom faster
  • In conjunction with Ferrothorn’s poor speed, Gyro Ball becomes a great option when checking Fairy-types and faster Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Syclant, and Mega Crucibelle.
  • Lastly, Protect is a solid option to stall for more recovery from Leech Seed and Leftovers. It also can help Ferrothorn bait out High Jump Kick from Hawlucha and Mega Medicham, lets Ferrothorn scout what moves Choice item users are about to be locked into, scouts for possible Hidden Power Fire users like Greninja, etc. , and lets it tank Z moves like Landorus-T's Supersonic Skystrike.
Set Details
========

  • A Maximum HP Investment and 208 Special Defense EVs with a Careful nature assures that Ferrothorn will be able to survive a +3 Ice beam from Syclant BP calced Life Orb Tail Glow, which is a terrible set. you could say +3 Tectonic Rage from Syclant and that'd be accurate, or find another calc, but definitely add something about more resistance to ash-gren calcs and makes Offensive Tomohawk's Hurricane a 3HKO.
  • The final 48 EVs are invested into Defense in order to improve its physical bulk.
  • are there other EV spreads to run?
  • Leftovers is the best possible item to ensure Ferrothorn’s longevity throughout the match through passive recovery.
  • Iron Barbs discourages physical attacks by causing chip damage on contact, punishing U-turn and Rapid Spin users.

Usage Tips
========

  • To preserve Ferrothorn's HP, switch it into moves that Ferrothorn resists from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Naviathan, and some choice locked Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Plasmanta, and Volkraken. Resisted contact moves are especially ideal, as they give the opponent serious contact damage thanks to Iron Barbs.
  • Early game it is imperative to set up entry hazards with Ferrothorn in order to force pressure onto the opposing team. mention that if the opposing hazard control mon is healthy, it might be better just to set one spike so not to lose too much momentum. actually, that's last point in the paragraph, move that here
  • Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery throughout the match, and should usually be the first move if entry hazards are already in play. Leech Seed can also be used on a switch to weaken switch-ins like Heatran and Zapdos through the gradual draining of health, which can be useful for removing these switch-ins later in the match.
  • Knock Off is also generally used to punish opposing switch-ins by knocking off their item. It is best to use when Ferrothorn is able to force a switch.
  • It is best to keep Ferrothorn as healthy as possible until hazard removers such as Tomohawk, Zapdos, Skarmory, and Rotom-Wash remove Skarm and Wash, add Lando-T, Kart, and other more relevant removes are incredibly weakened or KOd. Stealth Rock should be set whenever possible, but only one layer of Spikes should be layed until the hazard removers have fainted, as it wastes turns to set up more. Once they have been weakened or removed, three layers of Spikes should be layed to maximize chip damage.
  • when do you protect? this might seem obvious, but if you protect needlessly, something could set hazards on you or set up
  • Also, how to play around magnezone / loss-minimizing situation if the trap is locked
Team Options
========

  • Ferrothorn is best paired with other hazard setters like Landorus-T, Toxapex, Fidgit, remove Fidgit, bad outside of TR, add Greninja and Heatran to form a hazard stacking core which can create immense pressure against opposing teams and make it harder for them to switch.
  • Landorus-Therian in particular pairs well with Ferrothorn as it checks Heatran, Mega Venusaur, and Tapu Bulu. not sure if this point is really worth much anymore
  • Pokemon that can threaten common entry hazard removers like Tornadus-T and Tomohawk such as Greninja and Plasmanta are greatly appreciated. In return, Ferrothorn can provide these Pokemon with hazard support which makes it easier for these Pokemon to sweep.
  • Pokemon that threaten Fire-types, such as Keldeo drop this for Gastrodon, Zygarde, Krillowatt, and Volkraken, are also great partners.
  • Ferrothorn has great defensive type synergy with the likes of Toxapex, Arghonaut, Mollux, and Pyroak. Together these Pokemon can form great defensive Fire / Water / Grass cores that are able to overcome a majority of the threats in the metagame.
  • Ferrothorn fits extremely well on rain teams with common abusers such as Pelipper, Tomohawk, Mega Swampert, Tapu Koko, Ash Greninja, and Kingdra remove Kingdra, as it's a sturdy check to Electric-type and Grass-type moves. Ferrothorn's Spikes helps rain sweepers pick up more OHKOes, while rain halves Ferrothorn's large weakness to Fire-type moves
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============

  • Thunder Wave lets Ferrothorn further cripple the opponent by inflicting paralysis and lowering the speed of opposing Pokemon, although it should be noted to not be used alongside Gyro Ball. due to a massive drop in power
  • Stealth Rocks and Spikes may also be used on one set, but Ferrothorn can't set that many hazards effectively and Ferrothorn misses out on the utility of Knock Off or Leech Seed or ability to check Water-types with Power Whip.
  • Instead of Leftovers, Rocky Helmet may also be used in order to discourage and wear down physical attackers even more. However, Leftovers is generally better because Ferrothorn appreciates the passive recovery.
  • A Chople Berry can be run to stop OHKOs from powerful Fighting-types such as Mega Medicham, but it is very situational and Ferrothorn likes the passive healing of Leftovers over it in most situations. Twave pairs with chople pretty well actually

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types and Pokemon with Fire-type coverage**: Volkraken, Mollux, Heatran, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard Y change out mollux and megazard y with other things can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves. Pokemon with Hidden Power Fire coverage change to not-specifically HP Fire such as Mega Mawile, Tapu Lele, Mega Venusaur, Greninja, and Magearna can also check Ferrothorn . add in Jumbao However Ferrothorn can chip opposing Fire-types with Stealth Rock and remove their items when they switch in.

I'm wondering if we should make it Fire-types and then Fire-type coverage in general.

**Electric-types with Fire-type coverage**: Zapdos, Cyclohm, and Magnezone can deal massive damage to Ferrothorn with Fire-type coverage. Magnezone in particular can trap Ferrothorn with its ability, Magnet Pull, and easily 2HKO it with Hidden Power Fire. Ferrothorn, in return, can do nothing against Magnezone as it brushes off both Knock Off knock off gets rid of scarf, which is nice and Power Whip. wears it down with Leech Seed, especially with protect

**Mega Sableye**: Thanks to Mega Sableye’s ability, Magic Bounce, Ferrothorn is not able to set up entry hazards on it. Will-O-Wisp also hampers Ferrothorn's attack stat, making its move Power Whip less effective, and cancels Leftovers recovery. move to the bottom

**Grass-types**: Most Grass-types resist Ferrothorn's Power Whip, are slow enough to resist Gyro Ball and take no effect to Leech Seed. Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss in particular are the best counters to Ferrothorn as they don’t particularly care about Knock Off and can easily KO back with Hidden Power Fire. While it doesn't like losing an item, Kartana takes nothing from Ferrothorn's attacks and can easily force it out with Sacred Sword. add in Jumbao

**Fighting-types**: Pokemon such as Hawlucha, Mega Medicham, and Revenankh threaten Ferrothorn as their STAB moves can easily KO Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn can run Protect to have an easier time dealing with High Jump Kick users such as Mega Medicham and Hawlucha. but should be careful of hawlucha setting up

**Wallbreakers**: Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound, Garchomp ew, remove chomper, replace with Flame Orb Colossoil, and Plasmanta can all overcome Ferrothorn’s bulk with super effective coverage or raw power.

**Set-Up Sweepers**: Set-up sweepers such as SD Landorus-T, SD Fightinium Z Tapu Bulu, and Tail Glow Syclant can overload Ferrothorn with damage sub Zygarde, etc..
good, once I see all the old examples purged, I'll give QC

You mention adding in Jumbao twice in the C&C section of the analysis, once in Fire-Type coverage (now a new section) and once in Grass-Types. I think this is unnecessary overlap, since most analyses only mention a Pokemon once, so I decided to not add Jumbao into the Fire-type coverage point, since Jumbao is resistant to Power Whip and immune to Leech Seed like all other Grass-types, making it a better fit overall. Let me know if you disagree with this change, and I can change it back.

Otherwise, Implemented :D

  • The final 48 EVs are invested into Defense in order to improve its physical bulk.
  • A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD with an Impish Nature can be run to improve Ferrothorn's physical bulk while maintaining decent Special Defense, and notably makes Mega Crucibelle's Low Kick a 3HKO after Stealth Rock.
  • Leftovers is the best possible item to ensure Ferrothorn’s longevity throughout the match through passive recovery.
  • Iron Barbs discourages physical attacks by causing chip damage on contact, punishing U-turn and Rapid Spin users.

Usage Tips
========

  • To preserve Ferrothorn's HP, switch it into moves that Ferrothorn resists from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Naviathan , and some choice locked Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Plasmanta, and Volkraken. i see what you're doing with this list, but it's like "things that resist and then a sublist of choice locked resist" - separate into two lists Resisted or weak contact moves are especially ideal such as?, as they give the opponent serious contact damage thanks to Iron Barbs.
  • Early game it is imperative to set up entry hazards with Ferrothorn in order to force pressure onto the opposing team. It is best to keep Ferrothorn as healthy as possible until hazard removers such as Tomohawk, Zapdos, , and Rotom-Wash are incredibly weakened or KOd. • Protect should be used in most scenarios to scout out coverage moves, bait out High Jump Kick users, and to help tank Z-move users who are trying to nuke Ferrothorn. If it is likely the opposing Pokemon is to set(add space)up or set entry hazards, do not use Protect, as it gives them free opportunity to do so.
  • If Ferrothorn has been trapped by a Pokemon such as Magnezone or Pajantom and is about to be knocked out, prioritize using utility moves, especially entry hazards if they have not been set, before you faint. If entry hazards have already been layed and they have already been Leech Seeded, it is preferable to use Knock Off as Magnezone and Pajantom do not like losing an item.

Other Options

  • Thunder Wave lets Ferrothorn further cripple the opponent by inflicting paralysis and lowering the speed of opposing Pokemon, although it should be noted to not be used alongside Gyro Ball due to a massive drop in power actually this is false; i forgot that twave only halves speed now, so twave + gyro works fine
  • Stealth Rocks this move isn't plural and Spikes may also be used on one set, but Ferrothorn can't set that many hazards effectively and Ferrothorn misses out on the utility of Knock Off or Leech Seed or ability to check Water-types with Power Whip. just say "from its other moves"
  • Instead of Leftovers, Rocky Helmet may also be used in order to discourage and wear down physical attackers even more. However, Leftovers is generally better because Ferrothorn appreciates the passive recovery.
  • A Chople Berry can be run to stop OHKOs from powerful Fighting-types such as Mega Medicham and lets Ferrothorn cripple them with Thunder Wave, but it is very situational and Ferrothorn likes the passive healing of Leftovers over it in most situations.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Volkraken, Pyroak, Heatran, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard X can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves,. fix punctuation However change this "however" to "with Ferrothorn's only counterplay being" or something equivalent - the however seems like Ferrothorn is able to win in some capacity, when all it can really do is annoy with hazard damage and knock off Ferrothorn can chip opposing Fire-types with Stealth Rock and remove their items when they switch in with Knock Off.

**Fire-type coverage**: Pokemon such as Mega Mawile, Tapu Lele, Mega Venusaur, Jumbao, Greninja, and Magearna can all check Ferrothorn with their Fire-type coverage. However, Tapu Lele and Greninja must beware a super-effective STAB move on the switch in. Electric-types such Zapdos and Cyclohm are heavily resistant to Ferrothorn's STAB options, and can also deal massive damage to Ferrothorn with Fire-type coverage.

**Magnezone**: Thanks to its ability Magnet Pull, Magnezone is able to stop Ferrothorn from switching entirely, and easily 2HKO it with Hidden Power Fire. It also takes very little from Ferrothorn's STAB attacks. Keep in mind however that it does not like losing its item, and can be worn down significantly through Leech Seed+Protect. maybe add a little note here about Pajantom + Magnezone

Jumbao has to be wary of Gyro Ball, but is otherwise resistant to Ferrothorn's other moves and can KO it with Flame Burst or Focus Blast.

**Fighting-types**: Pokemon such as Hawlucha, Mega Medicham, and Revenankh threaten Ferrothorn as their STAB moves can easily KO Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn can run Protect to have an easier time dealing with High Jump Kick users such as Mega Medicham and Hawlucha, but should be careful of Hawlucha setting up instead.

**Set-Up Sweepers**: Set-up sweepers such as SD Landorus-T, SD Fightinium Z Tapu Bulu, SubCoil Zygarde, and Tail Glow Syclant can overload Ferrothorn with damage. i think GP makes you spell out Swords Dance

I'm thinking QC 1/3

[Overview]

- Ferrothorn's great defensive stats and typing allow it to check powerful Electric-type, Water-type, and Fairy-type Pokemon in the metagame such as Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Ash-Greninja, and Plasmanta.
Defintiely don't think Plasmanta is the right Pokemon to mention here. Plasmanta abuses the fuck out of Ferrothorn and just gets a free Substitute (only set worth using rn), and even Choice Scarf and Life Orb can run coverage to chunk it.

- Additionally, Ferrothorn's ability Iron Barbs lets it greatly discourage physical attackers like Naviathan and Crucibelle, while also punishing weaker priority moves like Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch and undermining VoltTurn cores with a resistance to Volt Switch and Iron Barbs hurting U-turn.
Crucibelle definitely isn't the right example here because it either Regenerates off Iron Barbs damage, or is unaffected by it, if it's mega evolved. Also, idk about the part where you say "also punishing weaker priority moves like Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch" considering it's a bad check to the Pokemon that use them. It's also a bad way to punish U-turn because it loses to the most prevalant users to the move.

- Ferrothorn actually has a decent attack stat for a wall, meaning it can pressure the opposing team with Power Whip and Gyro Ball and doesn't become passive like other defensive hazard setters like Chansey and Toxapex.
While I agree that it's not quite as passive when compared to other walls, it's hard for me to believe that it's not passive considering that it's setup bait for most sweepers in the tier. Also, Toxapex is far from passive, because it has access to Haze, Scald burns, and often runs Toxic aswell.

- Ferrothorn is forced out by opposing Fire-types and Pokemon with Fire-type coverage, such as Volkraken, Heatran, Zapdos, Pyroak, Greninja, and Volcarona, as they can easily KO it out due to Ferrothorn's 4x weakness to their moves.
This sounds more like something you would put in C&C. Something along the lines of "While Ferrothorn has a good defensive typing, it does leave it with a crippling weakness to Fire-type attacks from Pokemon such as Volkraken, Heatran, Pyroak, Greninja, and Volcarona..." would fit much better in an overview.

[Set]

[SET]
name: Hazard Setter
move1: Spikes / Stealth Rock
move2: Leech Seed
move3: Power Whip
move4: Knock Off / Gyro Ball / Protect
item: Leftovers
ability: Iron Barbs
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Definitely make Gyro Ball the front slash to consistently pressure Mega Crucibelle. I think you should unslash Protect aswell.

Also, add "ivs: 0 Spe" underneath evs for Gyro Ball.

[Moves]

- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn’s only viable form of recovery while wearing down opposing Pokemon’s HP, which maintains its longevity and is helpful late game.
Not just late-game, it's useful throughout the whole game to bug the shit out of your opponent.

- Power Whip is a reliable STAB move that can hit troublesome Water types such as Greninja, Arghonaut, Krilowatt, and Ash-Greninja, as well as deal with Colossoil.
It's a very bad Colossoil check because a knocked Ferrothorn is literally half dead. It's definitely not worth the trade-off in usual settings.

- Lastly, Protect is a solid option to stall for more recovery from Leech Seed and Leftovers. It also can help Ferrothorn bait out High Jump Kick from Hawlucha and Mega Medicham, lets Ferrothorn scout what moves Choice item users are about to be locked into, scouts for possible Hidden Power Fire users such as Greninja and Magearna, and lets it tank Z moves like Landorus-T's Supersonic Skystrike.
Ferrothorn isn't a Magearna check in any dimension, even with Protect, because Magearna runs either Fighting- or Fire-type coverage. Scouting Choice-locked Pokemon such as Volkraken is also a very big benefit to using Protect.

- Thunder Wave is an alternative option that is able to cripple opponents with paralysis, slowing down faster attackers. This can work with Ferrothorn's other moves like Gyro Ball as well, but it can be hard to find the room to fit it.
You simply can't fit it in any slot other than the 4th slot.

[Set Details]

- A more physically defensive spread of 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD with an Impish Nature can be run to improve Ferrothorn's physical bulk while maintaining decent Special Defense, and notably makes Mega Crucibelle's Low Kick a 3HKO after Stealth Rock.
Mention that you literally can't check Ash-Greninja with this spread.

- Iron Barbs discourages physical attacks by causing chip damage on contact, punishing U-turn and Rapid Spin users.
U-turn users still beat it up.

[Usage Tips]

To preserve Ferrothorn's HP, switch it into moves that Ferrothorn resists from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Naviathan, as well some Choice locked Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Plasmanta, and Volkraken.
I get what you're going for but that's not how you preserve health - that's how you lose health.

Resisted and weak contact moves such as Rapid Spin and Bullet Punch are especially ideal, as they give the opponent serious contact damage thanks to Iron Barbs.
Bullet Punch users beat up Ferrothorn.

Stealth Rock should be set whenever possible, but only one layer of Spikes should be layed until the hazard removers have fainted, as it wastes turns to set up more. Once they have been weakened or removed, three layers of Spikes should be layed to maximize chip damage.
Definitely not true considering just how much pressure Spikes put on the opponent, if you play well you should be able to discourage said hazard remover from Defogging/spinning.

- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery throughout the match, and should usually be the first move if entry hazards are already in play. Leech Seed can also be used on a switch to weaken switch-ins like Heatran and Zapdos through the gradual draining of health, which can be useful for removing these switch-ins later in the match.
This is worded vaguely, try to reword it to be more direct.

- Protect should be used in most scenarios to scout out coverage moves, bait out High Jump Kick users, and to help tank Z-move users who are trying to nuke Ferrothorn. If it is likely the opposing Pokemon is to set up or set entry hazards, do not use Protect, as it gives them free opportunity to do so.
Also gives a free turn for extra Leech Seed and Leftovers recovery.

[Team Options]

- Ferrothorn is best paired with other hazard setters like Landorus-T, Toxapex, Greninja, and Heatran to form a hazard stacking core which can create immense pressure against opposing teams and make it harder for them to switch.
Clefable is probably the best Pokemon to create a hazard stacking core with and it's not even mentioned?

- Because of its great defenses and how reliably it can set hazards, Ferrothorn can serve as a great partner on many bulky offensive teams.
This should be at the top of Team Options because it's a general comment about what type of teams Ferrothorn finds itself on.

Definitely talk about CruciKrill as teammates exclusively.

[Other Options]

- Stealth Rock and Spikes may also be used on one set, but Ferrothorn can't set that many hazards effectively and Ferrothorn misses out on the utility from its other moves.
It'll miss out on the 4th slot, not Leech Seed.

- Instead of Leftovers, Rocky Helmet may also be used in order to discourage and wear down physical attackers even more. However, Leftovers is generally better because Ferrothorn appreciates the passive recovery.
Rocky Helmet is absolute garbage because Ferrothorn is half dead without Leftovers.

Toxic should be mentioned below Thunder Wave.

[Checks and Counters]

**Fire-types**: Volkraken, Pyroak, Heatran, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard X can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves, with Ferrothorn's only counterplay being chipping opposing Fire-types with Stealth Rock and remove their items when they switch in.
Spikes and Thunder Wave apply aswell.

Pajantom can also lure out Ferrothorn for opposing Magnezone, so it is dangerous for Ferrothorn to combat this core.
Magnezone can potentially get a free Substitute aswell.

While it doesn't like losing an item, Kartana takes nothing from Ferrothorn's attacks and can easily force it out with Sacred Sword.
Thunder Wave cripples Kartana.

**Set-Up Sweepers**: Set-up sweepers such as Swords Dance Landorus-T, Swords Dance Fightinium Z Tapu Bulu, SubCoil Zygarde, and Tail Glow Syclant can overload Ferrothorn with damage.
Swords Dance Tapu Bulu doesn't exist in CAP.

And can remove Leftovers with Knock Off aswell

Mention Plasmanta somewhere in Checks and Counters because Ferrothorn is a free Substitute most of the time, or will get chunked by its respective coverage options.

Implement whatever you want.

[Overview]

- While Ferrothorn does have a great defensive typing, it suffers from a crippling 4x weakness to Fire-types attacks from Pokemon such as Volkraken, Heatran, Zapdos, Pyroak, Greninja, and Volcarona.
Mention that this weakness means certain Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Krilowatt, which Ferrothorn usually checks, can run Hidden Power Fire to get past it, in another sentence following this.

- Ferrothorn's poor speed means it consistently moves last in battle, which leads to it being worn down quite easily.
Which means it usually has to take a hit before moving. It does not directly mean that it will get worn down quite easily because it can usually manage to force switches to use Leech Seed.

[Moves]

- Power Whip is a reliable STAB move that can hit troublesome Water types such as Greninja, Arghonaut, Krilowatt, and Ash-Greninja, as well as deal with Assault Vest Colossoil.
Specify Rebound Colossoil, and add on why this is notable.

- Knock Off is able to wear down switch-ins and remove an opponent's item, crippling their capabilities, and can be used to wear down Pajantom faster than Ferrothorn's other moves.
Also mentions that it generally punishes switches into Pokemon like Clefable and Toxapex.

- Lastly, Protect is a solid option to stall for more recovery from Leech Seed and Leftovers. It also can help Ferrothorn bait out High Jump Kick from Hawlucha and Mega Medicham, lets Ferrothorn scout out Choice-locked Pokemon such as Volkraken and what moves they will lock themselves into, scouts for possible Hidden Power Fire users such as Greninja, and lets it tank Z moves like Landorus-T's Supersonic Skystrike. However, it causes Ferrothorn to become a lot more passive.
I don't think Hawlucha is a very good mention here because Ferrothorn usually means "free Swords Dance" for Hawlucha. Mention Tapu Koko and Krilowatt alongside Greninja.

[Set Details]

- Maximum HP Investment and 208 Special Defense EVs with a Careful nature assures that Ferrothorn will be able to survive a +3 Tectonic Rage from Syclant and makes Offensive Tomohawk's Hurricane a 3HKO. It also gives Ferrothorn more resistance to Ash-Greninja's attacks, notably never being 2HKO'd by Dark Pulse after Stealth Rock and Leftovers.
Why is offensive Tomohawk's Hurricane being a 3HKO notable? It'll just Fighting-type STAB you to death.

- The final 48 EVs are invested into Defense in order to improve its physical bulk.
Add this aswell.
252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 48 Def Ferrothorn: 148-175 (42 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

[Usage Tips]

- To minimize Ferrothorn's incoming damage, switch it into moves that Ferrothorn resists from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Naviathan, as well some Choice locked Pokemon like Tapu Lele, Plasmanta, and Volkraken.
Say that people should be wary of switching into coverage moves from the mentioned Choiced Pokemon.

- Early game it is imperative to set up entry hazards with Ferrothorn in order to force pressure onto the opposing team. It is best to keep Ferrothorn as healthy as possible until hazard removers such as Tomohawk, Zapdos, and Rotom-Wash are weakened or KOd.
Mention Tornadus-T instead of Rotom-W here.

but only one layer of Spikes should be layed until the hazard removers have fainted, as it wastes turns to set up more.
This really isn't true because multiple layers of Spikes even though their hazard remover is still alive can very well be worth it to lay additional pressure.

[Team Options]

- Because of its great defenses and how reliably it can set hazards, Ferrothorn can serve as a great partner on many bulky offensive teams.
And balance teams alike.

Ferrothorn's Spikes helps rain sweepers pick up more OHKOes, while rain halves Ferrothorn's large weakness to Fire-type moves.
Not just OHKOes, it also enables a few 2HKOes.

- Mega Crucibelle and Krilowatt work great with Ferrothorn thanks to their ability to force a large variety of Pokemon out and rack up damage from hazards that Ferrothorn sets.
They also benefit off of Thunder Wave.

[Other Options]

- Thunder Wave lets Ferrothorn further cripple the opponent by inflicting paralysis and lowering the speed of opposing Pokemon, and can still work with Ferrothorn's other offensive options.
This is now at the bottom of moves, so remove it from here.

[Checks and Counters]

**Fire-types**: Volkraken, Pyroak, Heatran, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard X can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves, with Ferrothorn's only counterplay being chipping opposing Fire-types with hazard damage and Leech and removing their items when they switch in.
Thunder Wave and Knock Off are also annoying.

**Magnezone**: Thanks to its ability Magnet Pull, Magnezone is able to stop Ferrothorn from switching entirely, and easily 2HKO it with Hidden Power Fire. It also takes very little from Ferrothorn's STAB attacks and can set up a Substitute almost for free. Keep in mind however that it does not like losing its item, and can be worn down significantly through Leech Seed+Protect. Pajantom can also lure out Ferrothorn for opposing Magnezone, so it is dangerous for Ferrothorn to combat this core.
You mention Pajantom here but the section is just called "Magnezone".

Mention Knock Off here aswell.

, nice job.

[OVERVIEW]

- One of the metagame's premier entry hazard setters, able to set up both Spikes and or Stealth Rock reliably. You practically never run both.
- Great defensive typing and stats lets it wall out a number of common Pokemon like Mega Crucibelle, Tapu Koko, Greninja, and Caribolt, and further enables Ferrothorn to set up hazards. Greninja just uses Low Kick. If you meant Ash-Greninja, say that instead. You could probably add Rockium Z Necturna to the list too.
- Has other great utility options such as Knock Off and Leech Seed to support team. Expand on why these moves are useful.
You should explain the fact that Ferrothorn is a mediocre check to Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele.

Moves
========

When do I use Spikes and when do I use Stealth Rock? You use Spikes if you have another Stealth Rock setter, while Stealth Rock is preferred on teams with Arghonaut.
- Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery, sapping a foe's HP and wearing down more defensive Pokemon such as Heatran and Celesteela.
- Power Whip is STAB used to beat Water- and Ground-types such as Arghonaut, Greninja, Rotom-Wash, and Colossoil. Ferrothorn never really wants to take on Colossoil because it'll just get worn down for no reason.
Considering that Gyro Ball is slashed, it should definitely be justified.

- Knock Off can hamper foes by removing their items, crippling Pokemon such as Heatran and Volkraken. Removing Volkraken's item against Ferrothorn teams, more often than not, helps it rather than hampers it because the ability to switch up moves is incredibly useful. Replace it with something like Celesteela or Tangrowth which are really dependant on their items.
- Protect lets Ferrothorn scout for Fire-type coverage as well as Z-moves, and can stall for more Leftovers or Leech Seed recovery.

Set Details
========

Move this to Other Options.

You should add the following spread to Set Details: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD with a Relaxed nature. This allows a healthy Ferrothorn to take Adamant Necturna's +2 Never-Ending Nightmare. I've found it to be particularly useful on teams with Arghonaut.

Usage Tips
========

- Ferrothorn should generally be coming in on weaker or resisted hits from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Caribolt, and Toxapex Mega Crucibelle, who can struggle to get past its defenses. Toxapex is a poor example because Ferrothorn just gets burned by Scald, severely cutting into its utility. Keep in mind that that some perceived switch-ins like Mega Crucibelle can carry dangerous coverage against Ferrothorn, so make sure to scout sufficiently before switching in. We nuked Low Kick.
- Ferrothorn's largest priority early game should be to set entry hazards, both to support its teammates with chip damage and to force in entry hazard removers. It is generally better to lay a single layer of Spikes if a dangerous switch-in comes in, but more layers can be set otherwise to increase pressure. I feel like the way the latter sentence is worded is a bit misleading so try and change it up a bit to get the point across better.
Mention something about it particularly going a long way against Pokemon like Celesteela and Heatran because they lack consistent recovery.
- Power Whip and, if ran, Gyro Ball should mostly be used against predicted switch-ins in KO range like?, otherwise it is better to set Leech Seed to wear them down and switch out if neccesary. The way this is currently ordered makes it seem like Gyro Ball isn't the first slash, but it is, so do something about it.

Team Options
========

Bulky Water-types like Arghonaut and Toxapex should have their own bullet point here.
-Stealth Rock setters such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, Heatran, Mega Crucibelle, and Mega Diancie pair well with Ferrothorn, as they can work together in a hazard stacking core to make large amounts of pressure through chip damage. Garchomp has really found itself thriving in this meta, whereas Landorus-T is struggling. I'd definitely mention how Spikes benefit all of these Pokemon.
It's a pretty poor Arghonaut check in general.
- Volt Switch or U-turn support from Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Tornadus-T, and Tapu Koko help keep momentum for Ferrothorn's team and assist in getting Ferrothorn more safely.
Having a Dark-resistant Pokemon is incredibly important because you'll often have to use Ferrothorn as an Ash-Greninja check, which can be abused with Dark Pulse flinches.

- Wallbreakers such as Mega Medicham, Ash-Greninja, Volkraken, Mega Alakazam, and Tapu Lele Flame Orb Colossoil appreciate the Spikes support that Ferrothorn lays to soften up foes. Generally poor examples.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============

Chople Berry

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Volkraken, Pyroak, Heatran, Volcarona, and Smokomodo can all OHKO Ferrothorn with their STAB moves. Pyroak is bad.

Incorporate this into the first point and make sure to remove any bad examples like Aurumoth and Greninja.

I definitely want to see a mention of Fighting-type coverage on Pokemon like Greninja and Aurumoth, Mega Alakazam, and Tapu Lele.

**Wallbreakers**: Pokemon such as Hoopa-Unbound Flame Orb Colossoil can all overcome Ferrothorn’s bulk with super effective coverage or raw power. Give some more examples.
