First team back :D

Hey Smogon! After a pretty long hiatus from pokemon I have returned. I wanted to make a somewhat generic OU team but some bulk involved in it. There are a few questions I want answers for. I know before I went on my hiatus Garchomp was banned from OU, do all you guys justify this? Has Thundurus had the same impact it had a few months ago? And is Latios perfectly fine in OU for good?

Anyways on to the team

Swampert
Nature: Relaxed EVs
252 HP, 252 DEF 4 ATT
Item: Leftovers
Stealth Rock
Roar
Waterfall
Earthquake

Nine times out of ten I will lead with this guy. I have always had a thing for using Swampert and I have always liked the use of Bulky waters. So this set is used to maximize Defensive Bulk, while still threatening some threats in the meta (Heatran, Thundurus etc.). Usual things with follow once I start a match, lead with Swampert, see if it is ideal to setup rocks and start the annoying Roar spam or switch out to something that will cover Swampert's weaknesses. Waterfall and Earthquake are here for strong reliable STAB and always pack a punch. All in all I do not think I would change a thing on this set, unless some arising suggestions from you guys alter this.

Scizor
Nature: Adamant EV's
180 ATT, 252 HP, 76 SPDEF
Item: Leftovers
Swords Dance
Bullet Punch
Superpower
Bug Bite

Now this is by far one of my top 5 favourite pokemon in pokemon history. I have him on nearly every team I make for biasness and because the synergy he was with the team. Thundurus or Dragonite going to get hit with an impending ice move, switch into Scizor, take the hit well and set up Swords Dance and proceed to deal alot of damage. I like this set because I made it myself (originality FTW :D) and it aids my playstyle. 252 HP for max Bulk, 180 ATT ev's for a grand total of 375 attack and 76 SP DEF ev's for relatively good SP DEF.

Ferrothorn
Nature: Sassy EV's
252 HP, 128 DEF, 128 SPDEF
Item: Leftovers
Spikes
Leech Seed
Gyro Ball
Power Whip

Yes, the best wall in 5th Gen makes it's return to my team again! Here is another set I made up. Obviously 252 HP to survive those Focus Blast's from Thundrus (Unboosted) and with a Sassy Nature the rest of the EV's it gives this Ferrothorn 330 in both DEF sets. I usually bring this in on something that can damage Swampert (ie another Ferrothorn, any grass Pokemon) and either setup layers of spikes or threaten with both STAB Power Whip and STAB Gyro Ball. The sassy nature also gives an extra kick in Ferro's Gyro ball which is always a plus.

Rotom-W
Nature: Timid EV's
252 SPATK, 252 SPD, 4 HP
Item: Choice Scarf
Hydro Pump
Will-O-Wisp
Volt Switch
Thunderbolt

Great Synergy with the team is all I can say. He provides a reliable check to a lot of things and is also a reliable revenge kills. It's great that in 5th gen that he is ELECTRIC/WATER, as it gives STAB to both Hydro Pump and Volt Switch/Thunderbolt. Will-O-Wisp is on there because if I am ever facing the threat of something I can outspeed and would be hurt by wisp, then I will use it ^_^. Not much else to be said here.

Thundurus
Nature: Timid EV's
252 SPATT, 252 SPE, 4 HP
Item: Life Orb
Nasty Plot
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Ice
Focus Blast

Standard Nasty Plot set, OP when you can get one off. The set always gives reliable coverage and can outspeed a lot, barring anything over base 110 Speed. He has definitely been my favourite poke this Gen and it seems when I started using him months back, everyone started using him and now everyone wants him uber :(. You guys did that to my favourite poke Garchomp (well Darkrai is my favourite but chomp is my fave OU before it was banned). But it is amazing on this team.

Dragonite
Nature: Adamant EV's
252 ATT, 252 SPE, 4 HP
Item: Leftovers
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Extremespeed
Earthquake

Made another set ^_^. I can usually reliably get off a DD or 2 and proceed to kill off EVERYTHING. Since it get's extremespeed, I just have use him, not to mention a +2 Outrage STAB maxed attack dents everything. Earthquake is there for coverage and that's all I have to say about Dragonite. I bring him in on something I know I can threaten and proceed to set up.

So that's the team, what do you guys think?

Oh forgot to post the abilities DERP. Swampert has Torrent, Scizor Technician, Rotom Levitate, Thundurus Prankster, Dragonite Multiscale, and Ferrothorn Iron Barbs.

well thundurus is uber under the current smogon tiers list, so for this to be considered an ou team youll need to replace it.

Ahh I see. I just checked the policy review and saw the whole round of voting. I see Excadrill has been banned which I like to see, I always had a personal hatred for him.

I also see Dragonite and Volcarona were suspects, but for what prominent reason? I mean Sand has now lost their biggest power along with rain in thundurus but will Volcarona be the go to abuser of Sun? What has Dragonite done to the meta? I have been gone too long from this LOL. I would of been able to answer all of this, but this hiatus has put me at a blur to some of the things that have happened.

To answer your question, Dragonite and Volcarona are arguably the two best set up sweepers in the game with the right support. D-Nite sets up on 51/53 pokemon in OU while bulkyRona in Sun is the star of every sun team that has gottten to #1 or close in the ladder (well, almost every team). I believe those are the reasons why they were nominanted but personally I still think they shouldn't ever be banned. Something interesting though is both absolutely HATE status but without using a 4x effective move (actually ice can be pp stalled for subddroost ddnite but thats not too popular) you basically let them set up for free.

Hehe, I already have a team made up in my head to abuse one if not both. I remember using Volcarona a while back before my hiatus from the game occured and everyone I used it against would be like "its weak to stealth rock and it's bulk sucks". I proved many people wrong :D D Nite on the other hand I was not sure coming into the next gen. I had my Adamant D Nite from my old Leaf Green game and I felt like searching if D Nite got a new ability and sure enough to add to his already above average bulk, Multiscale arose.

I knew he would be a good set up sweeper so I opted to try a few sets and I was more than satisfied with the results. I do not know if many know this but PBC, had both Chomp and Blaziken unbanned (Chomp I could live with because IMO he is still an OU poke despite being banned) but Blaziken only exists for abuse. I made a team centering around a lead set up D Nite and in a meta infested with SB Blazikens, D Dnite was utterly amazing.

It seems the pokes that were not so widely used, that I ended up testing as sweepers, have now become the two best sweepers in OU ^_^.

I am glad to see Nite getting recognition and Rona proving the haters wrong :D
