[OVERVIEW]

Flygon's sheer versatility, excellent defensive typing and ability, and offensive potential make it one of RU's best offensive Electric-immune Pokemon, a top contender that can fit on many different teams. Dragon Dance Flygon is an immense threat that can set up against common Pokemon like Raikou. A Choice Band set gives more immediate wallbreaking power, but it is easier to play around due to both of its STAB options having immunities. When it comes to support, Flygon is one of the best Defoggers in the tier thanks to its favorable matchup against most prevalent entry hazard setters like Stakataka and Metagross. Choice Scarf Flygon can proudly claim to be the tier's fastest Choice Scarf user and is a reliable revenge killer. Flygon excels as a pivot and almost always carries U-turn if lacking Dragon Dance. However, its average base Attack stat leaves it struggling to break through common defensive Pokemon like Gastrodon and Milotic, even when boosted. Flygon's typing also gives it an exploitable weakness to Ice-type coverage. Finally, as a Dragon-type that doesn't resist Water, Flygon is unable to check Volcanion, unlike Noivern, Guzzlord, and Dragalge.

move 3: Outrage
move 4: Stone Edge

nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

After a Dragon Dance, Flygon outspeeds the majority of the metagame and every single Choice Scarf user besides opposing Flygon. Stone Edge is necessary to stand a chance of breaking through the most common Fairy-type Togekiss and also OHKOes Flying-types like Noivern and Crobat, saving Flygon from having to lock itself into Outrage. Life Orb is the preferred item to guarantee the OHKO on maximum HP Togekiss with +1 Stone Edge, but a Lum Berry can be used instead to set up on Pokemon like Raikou without being crippled by Toxic or a Scald burn. An Adamant nature can be used alongside Lum Berry to OHKO offensive Togekiss with boosted Stone Edge, but it sacrifices the Speed tie after a boost with opposing Choice Scarf Flygon.

Bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Milotic are major roadblocks for Flygon's sweeps, as they can take one hit and KO back with Ice Beam. Pokemon such as Raikou, Volcanion, and Incineroar can put them on a timer with Toxic, making them easier to wear down into range of Flygon's boosted attacks. Grass-types like Roserade and Celebi can switch into Water-types while also making up for Flygon struggling to check Electric-types such as Raikou and Xurkitree. Roserade also provides Spikes support to whittle down Flygon's checks and counters. Celebi, on the other hand, appreciates Flygon removing Togekiss and can provide free switches with U-turn. Strong priority users like Golisopod and Lucario need to be dealt with before Flygon can attempt a sweep. Togekiss can check Golisopod while softening up the opposing team for Flygon with its Nasty Plot set or provide valuable support with Heal Bell and Wish. Gastrodon and Talonflame can switch into Lucario; Gastrodon also checks Volcanion. Talonflame provides free switches with U-turn on Steel- and Rock-types that Flygon can force out and set up on. Volcanion, Golisopod, and Incineroar take care of Bronzong, which completely walls Flygon.

[SET]
name: Defog
move 1: Earthquake

move 3: Roost
move 4: Toxic / U-turn
item: Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Jolly
evs: 172 HP / 112 Atk / 224 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Flygon can reliably remove entry hazards set by Pokemon like Metagross, Stakataka, and Roserade with Defog. Toxic cripples Pokemon Flygon otherwise can't touch like Togekiss, Noivern, and opposing Flygon. U-turn can be used instead to generate momentum against its switch-ins, which more offensive teams especially appreciate. Leftovers negates the damage from Stealth Rock and helps Flygon stay healthy throughout the match. Flygon can also forgo holding an item to nullify Poltergeist, which lets it soft check Pokemon like Golurk. 224 Speed EVs alongside a Jolly nature are used to outspeed Mimikyu, and the Attack EVs ensure the OHKO on Chandelure with Earthquake. The EV spread is quite customizable but should have a minimum of 80 Attack and 120 Speed EVs to outspeed and always OHKO Xurkitree with Earthquake.

Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch in on bulky Water-types and also help Flygon deal with Electric-types like Xurkitree and Raikou, which carry Dazzling Gleam and Toxic, respectively. Pokemon such as Raikou, Metagross, and Darmanitan commonly run Toxic, which hinders Flygon's ability to check them; cleric support from Togekiss, Diancie, or Umbreon can remedy this. Steel-types such as Metagross, Registeel, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Gardevoir is especially troublesome, as it gains Flygon's Levitate through Trace and thus can switch in without much risk. Flygon is unable to check Volcanion, unlike other Dragon-types like Noivern—Assault Vest Reuniclus, Gastrodon, and Starmie can patch up this weakness. Pokemon such as Noivern, Calm Mind Reuniclus, and Cobalion enjoy Flygon putting the likes of Togekiss, Gastrodon, and Milotic on a timer with Toxic. Toxic-less Flygon invites Pokemon such as Togekiss, Noivern, and Crobat in for free, which Pokemon like Xurkitree, Raikou, and Metagross can take advantage of off of Flygon's U-turn. Entry hazards often significantly limit Assault Vest Reuniclus, Obstagoon, and Heracross, so they appreciate Flygon as a Defogger.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Outrage / Toxic
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Levitate
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 Atk / 20 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

U-turn keeps up momentum and can provide free switches to teammates. Stone Edge hits Togekiss for decent damage. Outrage is Flygon's strongest STAB move to clean late-game and KOes Pokemon like Noivern and opposing Flygon. Toxic can be used instead to cripple switch-ins like Togekiss, Gastrodon, and Milotic. Defog is an option on offense teams in real need of emergency entry hazard removal, but Choice Scarf Flygon is generally a poor Defogger, as it's too weak to truly threaten standard entry hazard setters and it lacks longevity. 20 Special Defense EVs ensure that Flygon survives a Dazzling Gleam from Xurkitree.

Choice Scarf Flygon is a great glue for any team looking for an Electric- and Ground-immune Choice Scarf user. Bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Milotic can take any hit with ease and KO back with Ice Beam, so Pokemon such as Xurkitree, Starmie, and Calm Mind Reuniclus make great partners, taking advantage of them after Flygon's U-turn provides them with free entry. Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch in on bulky Water-types and similarly appreciate Flygon providing free switches with U-turn. Wallbreakers like Xurkitree, Toxicroak, and Chandelure appreciate Flygon pivoting them in on Pokemon such as Togekiss, Bronzong, and Gastrodon. Steel-types such as Metagross, Registeel, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Gardevoir can be especially troublesome, as its access to Trace and Fairy typing mean it gets a free switch if Flygon locks into Earthquake or Outrage.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Outrage
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: U-turn / First Impression
item: Choice Band
ability: Levitate
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band Flygon turns the tables on conventional switch-ins like Gastrodon and Milotic by 2HKOing them with Outrage. Stone Edge 2HKOes maximum HP Togekiss and has a good chance to OHKO Togekiss variants that don't have HP investment. U-turn takes advantage of its switch-ins like Bronzong by providing free switches to teammates, and it's a risk-free option against teams with multiple Pokemon immune to its STAB moves. First Impression, on the other hand, is a decently strong priority move and allows Choice Band Flygon to act as a revenge killer. It can also be used over Outrage or Stone Edge, but dropping either is generally not worth it.

Pokemon that tend to struggle with bulky Water-types like Gastrodon and Milotic, such as Cobalion, Entei, and Sharpedo, appreciate Choice Band Flygon's ability to surprise and 2HKO them on the switch. However, while Flygon can 2HKO most bulky Water-types, it can't beat them one-on-one, so it appreciates Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi as teammates. In return, they appreciate Flygon pivoting them safely in against bulky Water-types with U-turn. Pivots such as Crobat, Xurkitree, and Tornadus are crucial, as they can position Flygon into favorable matchups to punch as many holes in the opposing team as possible. Steel-types such as Metagross, Stakataka, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types like Togekiss and Gardevoir. Future Sight support from Assault Vest Reuniclus can ease the need to predict correctly, as Flygon can more safely lock itself into any move knowing that the incoming Pokemon will have to also take a Future Sight.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Throat Chop is an option to hit Bronzong and comes with the bonus of blocking Sylveon's Hyper Voice, but it has no other use, and it takes up a moveslot over Outrage. Flygon has an expansive special movepool and a passable Special Attack stat, but both fully special and mixed sets tend to struggle to push past Togekiss. A bulky Dragon Dance set with Roost can take advantage of Flygon's great defensive typing to accumulate multiple boosts, but it struggles to break through bulky Water-types even more than fully offensive sets already do. Scale Shot is an alternative STAB option over Outrage that boosts Flygon's Speed, which is especially useful on Choice Band sets to both wallbreak and clean up late-game, but its inconsistent power makes it a less desirable choice.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Water-types such as Milotic, Gastrodon, and Suicune are bulky enough to take even boosted attacks from Flygon and can KO back with Ice Beam, but they are 2HKOed by Choice Band Outrage on the switch and don't enjoy Toxic. Vaporeon has Heal Bell to heal off Toxic but struggles to reliably check Dragon Dance sets without Ice Beam. Unaware Quagsire hard counters Dragon Dance Flygon and can win against Choice Band sets with Curse.

**Fairy-types**: Togekiss can comfortably take on defensive and Choice Scarf Flygon, especially if it's carrying Heal Bell, but it struggles greatly with Dragon Dance and Choice Band sets. Rarer bulky Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Levitate Galarian Weezing can take on any set with relative ease. Gardevoir can copy Levitate with Trace, making it immune to both of Flygon's STAB moves, and has a good chance to survive even a +1 Life Orb-boosted Stone Edge. Mimikyu can safely revenge kill Dragon Dance Flygon thanks to Disguise, but other sets can break its Disguise scot-free with U-turn. Slurpuff can use Flygon as fodder to set up Belly Drum.

**Priority Users**: Golisopod can revenge kill Flygon with First Impression after it's been weakened a bit. Other priority users like Lucario, Toxicroak, and Entei can also revenge kill Flygon but need it to be even more weakened beforehand.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Calm Mind Reuniclus, Vileplume, and Porygon2 have enough physical bulk to win the matchup against any of Flygon's sets, but they can't directly switch into its Choice Band set.

**Bronzong**: Bronzong completely walls Flygon because Levitate nullifies Earthquake and it resists Flygon's other moves. However, Bronzong can get worn down by repeatedly switching into U-turn, especially from Choice Band sets.

After a Dragon Dance, Flygon outspeeds the majority of the metagame and every single Choice Scarf user. U-turn keeps up the momentum and can provide free switches to teammates. Defog is an option on offense teams in real need of emergency entry hazard removal but, in general, Choice Scarf Flygon is a poor Defogger, as it's too weak to truly threaten the entry hazard setters and lacks longevity. The 20 Special Defense EVs ensure that Flygon lives a Dazzling Gleam from Xurkitree.

Choice Scarf Flygon is a great glue to any team looking for an Electric- and Ground-immune Choice Scarf user. Bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Milotic can take any hit with ease and KO back with Ice Beam. Pokemon such as Xurkitree, Starmie, and Calm Mind Reuniclus can take advantage of said bulky Water-types after Flygon brings them onto the field with U-turn. Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch on bulky Water-types and appreciates it for providing free switches against them with U-turn. Wallbreakers like Xurkitree, Toxicroak, and Chandelure appreciate the free switch against Pokemon such as Togekiss, Bronzong, and Gastrodon. Steel-types such as Metagross, Registeel, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Choice Band Flygon turns the tide on conventional switch-ins like Gastrodon and Milotic by 2HKOing them with Outrage. Stone Edge 2HKOes max HP Togekiss and has a good chance to OHKO Togekiss without any HP investment. U-turn takes advantage of its switch-ins like Bronzong by providing free switches to teammates and is a risk-free option against teams with multiple Pokemon immune to either one of its STAB moves. First Impression, on the other hand, is a decently strong priority move and allows Choice Band Flygon to act as a revenge killer. It can also be used over either Outrage or Stone Edge but is generally ill-advised, as giving up either 2HKOing bulky Water-types or hitting Togekiss is in most cases not worth it.

Choice Band Flygon's appeal is surprising and 2HKOing bulky Water-types thinking they can take any incoming attack, which is appreciated by Pokemon such as Cobalion, Entei, and Sharpedo that tend to struggle with the likes of Gastrodon and Milotic. While Flygon can 2HKO most of the bulky Water-types, it can't beat them one-on-one. Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch into the bulky Water-types and appreciates Flygon for providing free switches against them with U-turn. (I think mentioning some pivots here is important since CB Flygon's your breaker, you want a way to position it easily early/mid game) Steel-types such as Metagross, Stakataka, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Future Sight support from AV Reuniclus can ease the need of predicting correctly, as Flygon safely locks into its move of choice knowing that the incoming Pokemon will have to also take a Future Sight. For example, Flygon can lock itself into one of its STAB moves, and even if Togekiss comes in it has to deal with Future Sight, or better yet Flygon could safely U-turn on the Togekiss switch and it'll take the Future Sight and be immediately forced out by Flygon's incoming teammate.

Throat Chop is an option to hit Bronzong with the bonus of blocking Sylveon's Hyper Voice but has no other use and it takes up a slot over Dragon STAB. Flygon has access to an expansive special movepool and passable Special Attack stat, but both fully special and mixed sets tend to end up struggling to push through Togekiss. A bulky Dragon Dance set with Roost can be used to take more advantage of Flygon's great defensive typing to accumulate multiple boosts but such a set will struggle to break bulky Water-types even more than fully offensive sets already does. Scale Shot is an alternative Dragon STAB option that boosts Flygon's Speed, which is especially useful on Choice Band sets to both wallbreak and clean up late-game, but the inconsistent power makes it a less desirable choice.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Water-types such as Milotic, Gastrodon, and Suicune are bulky enough to take even boosted attacks from Flygon and can KO back with Ice Beam, but are 2HKOed by Choice Band Outrage on the switch in nor enjoy Toxic. Vaporeon has Heal Bell to take care of Toxic but struggles to reliably check Dragon Dance sets without Ice Beam.

**Fairy-types**: Togekiss can comfortably take on defensive and Choice Scarf Flygon especially if it's carrying Heal Bell, but it struggles greatly with Dragon Dance and Choice Band sets. Rarer bulky Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Levitate Galarian Weezing can take on any set with relative ease. Gardevoir can Trace Levitate making it immune to both of Flygon's STAB moves and has a good chance to live even a +1 Life Orb boosted Stone edge. Mimikyu can safely revenge kill Dragon Dance thanks to Disguise, but other sets can break its Disguise scot-free with U-turn. Slurpuff can Belly Drum on Flygon if given the opportunity.

**Priority Users**: Common priority users like Golisopod can revenge kill Flygon with First Impression after it's weakened a bit. Other priority users like Lucario, Toxicroak, and Entei can also revenge kill Flygon but needs it to be even more weakened beforehand.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Vileplume, Porygon2, and Tangela are capable of taking on any of Flygon's sets. (CB is capable of 2HKOing plume and P2, prob just specify this fact) (Tangela also got UR, up to you if you want to keep it or not) Cloyster naturally absurd Defense lets it use any Flygon set as an opportunity to Shell Smash.

**Bronzong**: Although not all too common, Bronzong completely walls Flygon because it's immune to Earthquake thanks to Levitate and is resistant to Flygon's other moves. However, Bronzong can be worn down by repeatedly switching into U-turn, (AC) especially from Choice Band sets.

Togekiss can check Golisopod while being able to soften up the opposing teams for Flygon with a Nasty Plot set or provide valuable support in with Heal Bell and Wish. Gastrodon and Talonflame can switch into Lucario. Gastrodon also checks Volcanion, which Flygon can't check unlike other Dragon-types like Noivern. [SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band Flygon turns the tide tables on conventional switch-ins like Gastrodon and Milotic by 2HKOing them with Outrage. Stone Edge 2HKOes maximum HP Togekiss and has a good chance to OHKO Togekiss without HP investment. U-turn takes advantage of its switch-ins like Bronzong by providing free switches to teammates, (AC) and it's a risk-free option against teams with multiple Pokemon immune to either one of its STAB moves. First Impression, on the other hand, is a decently strong priority move and allows Choice Band Flygon to act as a revenge killer. It can also be used over either Outrage or Stone Edge, but this is generally ill-advised, as giving up either 2HKOing bulky Water-types or hitting Togekiss is in most cases dropping either is generally not worth it.

Pokemon that tend to struggle with the likes of bulky Water-types like Gastrodon and Milotic, such as Cobalion, Entei, and Sharpedo, appreciate Choice Band Flygon's ability to surprise and 2HKO bulky Water-types that switch in thinking that they can take any incoming attack. them on the switch. However, while Flygon can 2HKO most bulky Water-types, it can't beat them one-on-one, so it appreciates Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi as teammates. In return, they appreciate Flygon's ability to pivot Flygon pivoting them safely in against bulky Water-types with U-turn. Future Sight support from Assault Vest Reuniclus can ease the need for predicting correctly, as Flygon can more safely lock itself into its move of choice any move knowing that the incoming Pokemon will have to also take a Future Sight.

Other Options
=============

Throat Chop is an option to hit Bronzong and comes with the bonus of blocking Sylveon's Hyper Voice, but it has no other use and it takes up a moveslot over a Dragon STAB move. Outrage. Flygon has access to an expansive special movepool and a passable Special Attack stat, but both fully special and mixed sets tend to struggle to push through Togekiss. A bulky Dragon Dance set with Roost can be used to take advantage of Flygon's great defensive typing to accumulate multiple boosts, but such a set it will struggle to break through bulky Water-types even more than fully offensive sets already do. Scale Shot is an alternative STAB option over Outrage that boosts Flygon's Speed, which is especially useful on Choice Band sets to both wallbreak and clean up late-game, but the inconsistent power makes it a less desirable choice.

Checks and Counters
===================

Vaporeon has Heal Bell to take care of Toxic but struggles to reliably check Dragon Dance sets without Ice Beam. Unaware Quagsire hard counters (removed hyphen) Dragon Dance Flygon and can win the matchup against Choice Band sets with Curse.

Gardevoir can Trace Levitate, copy Levitate with Trace, making it immune to both of Flygon's STAB moves, and has a good chance to live survive even a +1 Life Orb-boosted (added hyphen) Stone Edge. Mimikyu can safely revenge kill Dragon Dance Flygon thanks to Disguise, but other sets can break its Disguise scot-free with U-turn. Slurpuff can set up Belly Drum on Flygon if given the opportunity. one-on-one. (I imagine?)

**Priority Users**: Common priority users like Golisopod can revenge kill Flygon with First Impression after it's weakened a bit. Other priority users like Lucario, Toxicroak, and Entei can also revenge kill Flygon but need it to be even more weakened beforehand.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Calm Mind Reuniclus, Vileplume, and Porygon2 have enough physical bulk to win the matchup against any of Flygon's sets, but they can't directly switch into Choice Band sets.

**Bronzong**: Although not all too common, Bronzong completely walls Flygon because it's immune to Earthquake thanks to Levitate and is resistant to Levitate nullifies Earthquake and it resists Flygon's other moves. However, Bronzong can get worn down by repeatedly switching into U-turn, especially from Choice Band sets.

Flygon's typing also gives it an exploitable weakness to the common Ice Beam Ice-type coverage. Finally, as a Dragon-type that doesn't resist Water, Flygon is unable to check the likes of Volcanion, unlike Noivern and Dragalge.

[SET COMMENTS]

After a Dragon Dance, Flygon outspeeds the majority of the metagame and every single Choice Scarf user besides opposing Flygon. Stone Edge is necessary to stand a chance of breaking through the most common Fairy-type in Togekiss and also OHKOes other Flying-types like Noivern and Crobat, saving Flygon from having to lock itself into Outrage.

Celebi, for its part on the other hand, appreciates Flygon removing Togekiss and can provide free switches with U-turn. Strong priority users like Golisopod and Lucario need to be dealt with before Flygon can attempt a sweep. Togekiss can check Golisopod while softening up the opposing team for Flygon with a its Nasty Plot set or providing provide valuable support with Heal Bell and Wish. Gastrodon and Talonflame can switch into Lucario; Gastrodon also checks Volcanion, which Flygon can't check, unlike other Dragon-types like Noivern (you already mention this in the overview). Talonflame provides free switches with U-turn to on Steel- and Rock-types that Flygon can force out and set up on. Volcanion, Golisopod, and Incineroar can take care of Bronzong, which completely walls Flygon.

U-turn can be used instead to turn its switch-ins into free momentum generate momentum against its switch-ins, which more offensive teams especially appreciate.

Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch in on bulky Water-types and can also help Flygon deal with Electric-types like Xurkitree and Raikou, which carry Dazzling Gleam and Toxic, respectively. Pokemon such as Raikou, Metagross, and Darmanitan commonly run Toxic, which hinders Flygon's efficiency at checking ability to check them; (period->semicolon) cleric support from Togekiss, Diancie, or Umbreon can remedy this. Toxic-less Flygon invites Pokemon such as Togekiss, Noivern, and Crobat in for free, which Pokemon like Xurkitree, Raikou, and Metagross can take advantage of after Flygon brings them in with off of Flygon's U-turn. Entry hazards often significantly limit Assault Vest Reuniclus, Obstagoon, and Heracross, so they appreciate Flygon as a Defogger.

[SET COMMENTS]

U-turn keeps up the momentum and can provide free switches to teammates. Defog is an option on offense teams in real need of emergency entry hazard removal, but Choice Scarf Flygon is generally a poor Defogger, as it's too weak to truly threaten the standard entry hazard setters and it lacks longevity. The 20 Special Defense EVs ensure that Flygon survives a Dazzling Gleam from Xurkitree.

Choice Scarf Flygon is a great glue to for any team looking for an Electric- and Ground-immune Choice Scarf user. Grass-types such as Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi can switch in on bulky Water-types and similarly appreciate Flygon providing free switches against them with U-turn. Wallbreakers like Xurkitree, Toxicroak, and Chandelure appreciate the free switch against Flygon pivoting them in on (avoids small repetition) Pokemon such as Togekiss, Bronzong, and Gastrodon. Steel-types such as Metagross, Registeel, and Bronzong can take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Gardevoir can be especially troublesome, as its Trace and Flygon's Levitate access to Trace and Fairy typing mean it gets a free switch if Flygon's locked Flygon locks into Earthquake or Outrage.
