With Garchomps recent ban I thought it would be appropriate to discuss one of the Pokemon who might fill part of the gap left by the land shark.

Flygon was a top tier Pokemon in 4th OU, but the power creep hasnt been kind to him. He now has to compete with Pokemon like Excadrill and Landorus for a team slot. Flygon has decent speed, attack, bulk and solid Dragon/Ground STAB, but the lack of good boosting moves and priority really hurt him. A Scarf will mean Flygon will hit like a stick while using a Choice Band or Life Orb means Flygon will be slow compared to other sweepers. The lack of priority doesn't exactly help with CB sets either. Nevertheless Flygon is still a good Pokemon and his resistences and immunities can be a good asset to any team.
Potential Sets:
Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- U-Turn
Pretty strait forward set. Scarf Flygon is a great revenge killer and late game sweeper.
Flygon @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly/Naive nature
- Hone Claws
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast / Stone Edge
Flygons finally got a boosting move in Hone Claws. Hone Claws isn't the best move but it can be used to some extent. A +1 or 2 Flygon with an accuracy boosted Stone Edge can be great to have late game.
