LC Frillish

[OVERVIEW]

Frillish is a strong defensive wall with reliable recovery and useful utility moves, allowing it to stop a variety of strong offensive threats such as Ponyta, Drilbur, and Galarian Ponyta. Will-O-Wisp and Hex form a deadly combination, dealing significant damage and crippling physical threats such as Galarian Farfetch'd. Its Ghost typing also allows it to spinblock effectively while threatening common Rapid Spin users such as Drilbur. However, its effectiveness is limited by the prevalence of Knock Off, meaning Dark-types can easily force it out. Additionally, this can create setup opportunities for Dark-types such as Vullaby and Scraggy.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Hex is used to deal significant damage to a target with a status condition. Will-O-Wisp burns the target, reducing damage from physical attacks while boosting the power of Hex. Recover is used for reliable recovery, increasing Frillish's longevity. Scald allows Frillish to reliably check important threats such as Ponyta and Onix and also has the chance to power up Hex if a Pokemon that resists Water gets burned. It can also help to chip and potentially burn common switch-ins to Frillish, such as Vullaby and Pawniard. Taunt can be used to prevent recovery on defensive Pokemon such as Shellos and Mareanie or prevent slow Pokemon such as Dewpider and Ferroseed from setting up entry hazards.

Set Details
========

The HP and Defense investment enables Frillish to take two Earthquakes from Drilbur and Onix. The Speed investment allows it to outspeed Zigzagoon, Adamant Corphish, defensive Mudbray, and other physical threats. It can also take the opportunity to burn opposing Pokemon with Will-O-Wisp before taking damage. Eviolite is used as the item to further increase bulk, allowing Frillish to reach 21 Defense and 22 Special Defense. Cursed Body is the preferred ability and can potentially disable a super effective attack. Although it's unreliable due to its activation chance, most foes only run one super effective move against Frillish, meaning it can keep using Recover until Cursed Body activates in tight situations. An alternative spread of 236 HP / 116 Def / 76 SpA / 36 Spe with a Bold nature can be run for increased bulk while outspeeding bulky Timburr.

Usage Tips
========

Frillish should be brought in on weak defensive Pokemon and special attackers such as Mareanie and Shellos. It is able to counter Normal-, Water-, Fire-, and Ground-types, notably Ponyta and Onix. Frillish can come in on such Pokemon, take minimal damage, and deal heavy damage back with its STAB attacks. Be careful when facing Pokemon with access to Knock Off, such as Timburr and Vullaby, as Frillish should try to keep its item. However, most offensive threats rely on a single move such as Knock Off to hit Frillish, allowing Frillish to keep using Recover until Cursed Body activates. Be wary of Guts Timburr, since burning it with Will-O-Wisp or Scald will give it a free Attack boost. It is important to balance spreading burns with keeping Frillish healthy so that it can continue to switch into Pokemon throughout the game.

Team Options
========

Ferroseed and Oddish make good teammates because they counter both Electric- and Grass-types well. Oddish makes a particularly good partner by removing Toxic Spikes when switching in, as do other Poison-types such as Mareanie. A good Knock Off absorber such as Spritzee makes a good partner for Frillish because of Frillish's susceptibility to the move. Timburr and Spritzee make good teammates because they are able to check Dark-types. Entry hazard setters such as Dewpider, Dwebble and Ferroseed benefit from Frillish's ability to spinblock effectively. Toxic Spikes users such as Mareanie enable Frillish to do more damage with Hex when opposing Pokemon are poisoned. Ponyta can check Dark-types by burning them and is able to force out Grass-types. Entry hazard removers such as Timburr and Vullaby are appreciated because Frillish struggles to avoid a lot of 2HKOs if Stealth Rock is present.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Choice Scarf set can be run with Water Spout and Trick to form a dangerous surprise set, but it struggles to break through Frillish's checks due to its mediocre Special Attack. Shadow Ball can be run instead of Hex for more consistent damage output. However, there isn't a huge difference in damage output between unboosted Hex and Shadow Ball. Psychic can be used to OHKO Croagunk, which can otherwise switch freely into Scald. Ice Beam is a useful coverage option for Grass-type switch-ins such as Oddish. Energy Ball or Giga Drain can be used to hit other Water-types for more damage, such as other Frillish and Corphish. Strength Sap is an alternative recovery move that also cripples the target but reduces Frillish's longevity against the common Pawniard. Water Absorb can be used over Cursed Body, but it is considered worse because Frillish takes little damage from Water-type attacks anyway.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Vullaby and Scraggy are able to set up on Frillish and threaten it with Knock Off. Vullaby is particularly threatening because its Nasty Plot set isn't affected by Will-O-Wisp burns, which other Dark-types tend to fear.

**Electric-types**: Chinchou and Magnemite can be threatening with their strong STAB attacks. However, Chinchou cannot OHKO Frillish with Eviolite intact, giving Frillish opportunities to scout its set, while Magnemite struggles to switch into Frillish's attacks.

**Grass-types**: Oddish, Bulbasaur, and Ferroseed can all switch into Frillish and typically force it out. However, they are all forced out if Giga Drain is disabled by Cursed Body. Bulbasaur is particularly threatening, as it can set up Growth against Frillish.

**Status Conditions**: Poisoning Frillish through Toxic Spikes or Toxic massively reduce its longevity. If paralyzed, Frillish is unable to wait for Cursed Body to activate and is forced out.

Ah, you're finally awake
Content here is pretty good, but just needs to be expanded on and put into a more sentence-like structure. Essentially every bullet in the Overview, Set Details, Usage tips and Team Options need to be expanded on (i.e " • Ghost typing allows it to spinblock and threaten common spinners such as Drillbur."). Although it's in bullets, I'd like to see the general structure look more like it's being written up but each bullet symbolises a different section that you're talking about.

After you've done that, tag me and I'll stamp for 1/3.

Stoward

Ah, you're finally awake
Yeah I hadn't actually stamped this yet.

OVERVIEW
  • Currently the best Ghost-type, and faces competition from Pumpkaboo-Super.
Advise why it faces competition from Pumpkaboo.

[SET]

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

Just put Strength Sap before Recover as it's the first move mentioned, then in the next bullet mention that Recover can be used in place of Strength Sap for

Set Details

  • Defensive investment allows Frillish to reach 14 Defense, and Special investment allows it to reach 16 Special Defense and maximise the benefit of Eviolite.
  • HP is maximised to increase both special and physical bulk, allowing it to comfortably take two Earthquakes from Adamant Drilbur.
  • Eviolite is used as the item to further increase bulk, allowing Frillish to reach 21 Defense and 24 Special Defense.
  • The remaining EVs are invested in Special Attack to improve damage rolls, such as giving it a good chance to 2HKO common Timburr sets with Hex.
Probably just condense this to say that HP and Def investment allows it to comfortably take two Earthquakes from Adamant Drilbur, 76 EVs are placed in Attack to give it a chance to 2KHO Timburr with Hex and the rest is placed in SpD to allow Frillish to survive Special Attacks better. or something like that.

Usage Tips

  • Be careful when facing opponents with access to Knock Off, such as Timburr and Vullaby, as Frillish should try to keep its item.
Also mention about being careful dealing with Guts Timburr as you don't wanna give it a free Attack boost and have it bop you with Knock Off.

  • It is able to counter Normal, Water, Fire and Ground types, notably Ponyta, Onix and Zigzagoon.
Yeah just elaborate on this and advise people that they should bring Frillish in on these due to the minimal damage they dish out. Idk about Zigzagoon though cos it gets bopped by a +6 Seed Bomb.

Team Options

  • Grass, Dark and Electric types, such as Oddish, Vullaby and Chinchou can cause issues for Frillish with their super-effective attacks.
This info is available to the user at the top of the Dex. Probably remove this as your other bullets talk about teammates that can deal with these Pokemon.

AM QC Check (Implement what you want):

1. Overview: Is good but, im not sure if Scraggy wants to set up on Frillish because of wisp (Even shed skin is unreliable)
2. Usage Tips: I would name relevant normal and water types that Frillish can come in on
3. Team Options:
- Instead of Ferro and Oddish, I would mention Rufflet, Vullaby, and Ponyta (can also provide status for hex) as partners that are able to take on grass types.
- Mention Diglett as a trapping partner that can take out Chinchou (and Helioptile ig)
- I would condense both Timburr and Spritzee as Dark-type checks that can take Knock Off
- I would condense "entry hazard setters" to "hazard support" and include T-Spikes Mareanie in there
4. OO
- This is my opinion but I think a fast spread (196 Speed with Jolly nature) should be included in OO; it allows you to outspeed and burn Mudbray, Shellder, and Corphish
5. Checks and Counter
- Dark Types: See above for Scraggy. Mention that they dont like getting burned by wisp.
- Electric Types: I would mention Helioptile as well and briefly state how both mons possess water immunity and dont mind getting burned

Hope this helped!

This is a little dated already, so let's fix that.
[OVERVIEW]
  • It walls a variety of special attackers, such as Spritzee and Mareanie.
I feel strongly that this point should be changed to talk about Frillish checking some hard to stop Pokemon, such as Ponyta, Ponyta-G, Drilbur, maybe mention Dewpider
  • Currently the best Ghost-type, and faces competition from Pumpkaboo-Super since Pumpkaboo is similarly bulky but with different move coverage.
You should remove the idea of it being the best ghost type. It adds little on the whole and makes this less future proof.

[SET]
Move order should be as follows:
move 1: Hex
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Scald
move 4: Recover / Strength Sap

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves

========

Change the order to reflect the new move order.
Scald should instead be mentioned as giving frillish the ability to check key pokemon (eg ponyta) with the upside of powering up hex if a water resist happens to get burnt.
Add a mention of Pawniard getting +1 from Sap, therefore making it hard af to switch into, trap.
Taunt absolutely deserves a mention.

Set Details

========
I think this is up to date still.

Usage Tips

========
The grammar here is a bit off. Fix that in your write up.
  • Be careful when facing opponents with access to Knock Off, such as Timburr and Vullaby, as Frillish should try to keep its item. Be wary of Guts Timburr, since burning it with Will-O-Wisp or Scald will give it a free Attack boost.
  • It is able to counter Normal, Water, Fire and Ground types, notably Ponyta and Onix. Frillish can come in, taking minimal damage and deal heavy damage with its STAB attacks.
Flip the order of these two bullets above. Add a third point about balancing Frillish's health with spreading burns so that it can continue to switch into Pokemon as needed.
  • Scald should be used most often to damage opponents while potentially burning them.
Remove this.

Team Options

========
the dew.
Ponyta should be called out in a quick sentence as it can check (via burn) the darks, beats the grasses. Don't elaborate too much tho.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

  • Shadow Ball can be run instead of Hex for more consistent damage output.
I would mention w Shadow Ball vs weak Hex, the difference is often negligible.
A fast spread w timid can go here, mention it as decent but losing a lot of bulk for neutral attacks

Checks and Counters

===================

This feels very dated. I'll leave this for the last person to consider.

2/3 QC

Note to next QC member: really look at the checks and counters section. I feel that a lot of trends do not neatly fit in here but greatly hurt frillish

Set:
These are some pretty major changes for a 3rd check, but I don't think they shift Frillish's role/description hugely and the analysis is good otherwise so it should be fine.

The standard Frillish spread should be 76 HP/196 Def/196 Spe Timid. This lets it outspeed Zigzagoon, Adamant Corphish, bulky Mudbray, Adamant Shellder, and almost all Timburr/Trapinch/Shellos, as well as speed tie with Jolly Shellder and Timid Koffing. All of these are important threats for Frillish to outspeed, especially Corphish/Timburr.
The current bulky spread can still warrant a mention in the set details since the extra bulk can still be helpful. However, the spread should be 236 HP/116 Def/76 SpA/36 Spe (move the spD to Spe) to outspeed bulky Timburr.

Strength Sap should be moved to Other Options. It's generally the less reliable recovery option, is worse for fishing for Cursed Body, and makes it extremely difficult for Frillish to have any longevity if they have a Pawniard.

Slash Taunt after Scald. Scald doesn't affect what Frillish can or can't beat, but makes it more reliable against Onix/Ponyta and chips Vullaby switchins a bit better. Taunt lets Frillish shut down Shellos, gives it an easier time against Mareanie/Munchlax, and makes Ferroseed/Oddish/non-Scarf Dewpider a bit easier on Frillish's teammates.

Be sure to update the moves and set details sections accordingly.

Set Details:
Play up Cursed Body a bit more. Many mons only have one move that can threaten Frillish, so a combination of Cursed Body and Recover spam can let it get past a lot of iffy situations with some luck.

Usage Tips:
Frillish shouldn't be switching into Spritzee unless it has revealed that it's not a setup variant, since Calm Mind and Nasty Plot Spritzee set up on Frillish freely.
Mention that you can beat out some Pokemon that only have one move that can affect Frillish - for example, Knock Off Timburr - by spamming Recover until Cursed Body activates.

Team Options:
Mention removal, such as Defog Vullaby, as Frillish just barely avoids a lot of 2HKOs, and chip from hazards can ruin this.
Mention that Oddish and Mareanie can also absorb Toxic Spikes, which would otherwise shut Frillish down.

Other Options:
Don't forget to mention Strength Sap here.
Remove the faster spread and Taunt since they're part of the main set now.
Mention Psychic to KO Croagunk, as well as threaten Timburr without having to rely on Hex.

Checks and Counters:
Mention that Nasty Plot Vullaby doesn't mind the burn from Will-O-Wisp, though the other Dark-types dislike it.
Remove Helioptile from Electric-types since it's not really viable.
For Grass-types, mention that if Oddish/Ferroseed are unable to status Frillish and Giga Drain gets hit by Cursed Body, they'll be forced out. Add Bulbasaur here, and mention that Frillish is setup bait for it.
Add a section on status. Poisoning Frillish with Toxic Spikes or a stray Toxic can drastically limit its staying power. Paralyzing it means that it can no longer safely fish for Cursed Body against slower threats.

Lots of stuff because we hadn't gotten to this for like two months, but good work overall. 3/3

Hex is used to deal significant damage to a target with a status condition. Will-O-Wisp burns the target, which reduces reducing damage from physical attacks while boosting the power of Hex. Recover is used for reliable recovery, increasing its Frillish's longevity. Scald allows Frillish to reliably check important threats such as Ponyta and Onix, while also having and also has the chance to power up Hex if a Water-resist Pokemon that resists Water / switch-in (pick whichever works best in context) gets burned. It can also help to chip and potentially burn common switch-ins to Frillish, such as Vullaby and Pawniard. Taunt can be used to prevent recovery on defensive Pokemon such as Shellos and Mareanie (RC) or to prevent hazard setting by slow Pokemon such as Dewpider and Ferroseed from setting up entry hazards.

Set Details
========

The HP and Defense investment allow enables Frillish to take two Earthquakes from Drilbur and Onix. The Speed investment allows it to outspeed Zigzagoon, Adamant Corphish and defensive Mudbray and other physical threats. It can also take the opportunity to burn opportunities to burn opponents opposing Pokemon with Will-O-Wisp before taking damage. Eviolite is used as the item to further increase bulk, allowing Frillish to reach 21 Defense and 22 Special Defense. Cursed Body is the preferred ability (RC) and can potentially disable a super effective (RH) attack from the opponent. Although it's unreliable due to its activation chance, most foes only run one super effective move against Frillish, meaning it can keep recovering using Recover until Cursed Body activates in tight situations. An alternative spread of 236 HP / 116 Def / 76 SpA / 36 Spe with a Bold nature can be run for increased bulk (RC) while outspeeding bulky Timburr.

Frillish should be brought in on weak defensive opponents Pokemon and special attackers, such as Mareanie and Shellos. It is able to counter Normal-, Water-, Fire-, (AC) and Ground-types, (AH x4) notably Ponyta and Onix. Frillish can come in, taking minimal damage and deal heavy damage with its STAB attacks. It is important to balance spreading burns with keeping Frillish healthy (RC) so that it can continue to switch into Pokemon throughout the game.

Team Options

Ferroseed and Oddish make good teammates because they counter both Electric- and Grass-types well. Oddish makes a particularly good partner by removing Toxic Spikes when switching in, along with as do other Poison-types such as Mareanie. A good Knock Off absorber such as Spritzee makes a good partner for Frillish by being able to switch into an expected Knock Off because of Frillish's susceptibility to the move. (non-repeat + actual reason, feel free to adjust as needed) Timburr and Spritzee make good teammates because they are able to check Dark-types. (AH) Entry hazard setters such as Dewpider, Dwebble and Ferroseed benefit from Frillish's ability to spinblock effectively. Toxic Spikes users such as Mareanie enable Frillish to do more damage with Hex when opponents opposing Pokemon are poisoned. Ponyta can check Dark-types by burning them (RC) and is able to force out Grass-types. Entry hazard removers such as Timburr and Vullaby are appreciated because Frillish struggles to avoid a lot of 2HKOes 2HKOs if Stealth Rocks are Rock is present.

Water Absorb can be used over Cursed Body, (AC) but it is considered worse since because Frillish takes little damage from Water-type attacks anyway. The drawback is that it misses out on the bulk of the slower spread. (was something removed here?)
