Frustration > Return?

It's a whole lot easier to raise happiness than it is to lower happiness. In fact it's easy to accidentally raise happiness without trying.
One exception: Revival Herbs. It is a max revive, but it is bitter so it lowers happiness. So after all EVs have been gained, E4 training gets difficult to do quickly (without Exp. Share or switch out training) so using Revival Herbs a lot may want to alter your choice. Then again, you can just go to Gear Station and put a heavy object on B and down so you run for hours on end... that's how I do it.

Aside from practicality as far as simulators go, and assuming you don't beat up on your pokemon all the time, is there any reason frustration would be better?

Because a pokemon with a strong Return cares about its trainer and would give it's life up for it's master; thus being a better partner in battle.

caring about its trainer has nothing to do with how well it does, the happiness is a number that only affects a few things like evolution and the strength of return and frustration.

*facepalm* successful troll is successful

and return is better in Pokemon Online just because of the eccentric ditto thing. Ditto isn't released so wifi return is also better blahblahblah necro'd thread

Return

In the long run raising happiness is a whole lot easier then making pokemon hate you. I see your point and that Frustration may be a good move, REturn is way better.

The reason this was suggested was that Pokemon Online, the simulator on which we play, defaults happiness at 0, and it's kind of annoying having to find that damned scroll bar to raise happiness to 255. Might as well select Frustration and be done with it. To those who are saying that it's easier to boost happiness, the analyses are not tailored to Wi-Fi, so the point is moot. If you are playing Wi-Fi, just assume Return. No biggie.

Ugh this thread is still open too.

Anyway, I'm standing behind what I said before and the analyses will use and will always use Return as the standard. The reasoning behind this is because Shoddy had Return as the default option, and all the past gen analyses use Return instead of Frustration. It is also easier to use Return if using Wi-Fi.

The fact that Frustration is easier on PO is just an inconvenience for consistency. If ever a time comes that somebody wants to go through every analysis we have onsite and change every instance of Return to Frustration, then we will change our standard to Frustration. However, as it stands, we will continue to use Return for the reasons stated above. We may also part with PO in the future, we don't know, and if that were to happen, it may come to pass that Return will be the default option once again.
