Intro

Hello fellow UU players, and welcome to my latest RMT. For this round of UU, I decided to make an offensive team to ladder with. In my opinion, offense is harder to use on the ladder because with stall most matches can be won handily by simply playing on 'autopilot'. However, with offense predictions are more important and mistakes are more costly. and sometimes you can lose to shit like Agility Lanturn when your remaining pokes are Rhyperior, Magmortar, and a weakened Sceptile. Also, offense tends to be less tedious than stall to ladder with, although the ladder is pretty boring nowadays anyway. Anyhow, this team has served me pretty well, getting to #7 on the ladder with a CRE around 1675 on the alt 'Godsend.'. that alt was made to mock/troll this bitch, who is 'godsend2' on shoddy battle. This team is one of the most solid teams I have built, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. Any and all suggestions or comments are very much appreciated. Without further ado, onto the team...

At A Glance

team building process:
I started out this team with the offensive core of Nasty Plot Houndoom and Calm Mind Mismagius. They have pretty good offensive synergy and can set up on the other's counters, so it seemed like a good combination to build a team around.

I added a Sceptile to put more pressure on bulky waters and to tear shit up. The mixed set allowed me to muscle past his normal counters minus Venusaur and Weezing.

Next, SubPerior went in to lure bulky waters and also to take advantage of their removal.

In the lead slot, I wanted something that could reliably set up Stealth Rock and also prevent entry hazards, because an offensive team tends to switch around a bit to preserve momentum. Kabutops fit the bill and also had the potential to cause some good early damage.

Finally, I added a Scarf Gardevoir as a rain counter and revenge killer.

After bad ass posted his Sub Magmortar in the UU thread, I tried it out over Houndoom. The tradeoff of sweeping ability and speed for wallbreaking worked out well enough for me to keep Magmortar on the team.

Since I didn't want Pursuit trappers such as Spiritomb to KO 1/3 of my team for free, I removed Gardevoir and shoved a Scarf Milotic in its place.

This was the team that I laddered the most with, and it has worked pretty well. It's not bulletproof by any means, most likely due to my somewhat roughshod team building process.

A Closer Look

Kabutops @ Focus Sash
Nature: Adamant
Swift Swim
EVs: 68 HP, 252 Attack, 188 Speed
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Basically the standard lead Kabutops. It's one of the best leads I've ever used. It almost always manages to get SR up on my opponent's field and keep SR/Spikes off my side of the field. It also beats other suicide leads such as Alakazam and Electrode with a combination of Stone Edge and Aqua Jet. Focus Sash guarentees at least one turn to use SR. Even when matched up unfavorably against something such as Mesprit or Uxie, Kabu still gets his job done, even if it comes at the cost of dying without doing significant damage to the opponent's lead. If somehow Kabu is still alive at the midgame, Aqua Jet makes it a decent revenge killer against Fire-type sweepers. I added 4 EVs to Speed (from HP) so I can outspeed and beat other Kabutops leads.

Sceptile @ Life Orb
Nature: Hasty
Overgrow
EVs: 212 Attack, 216 Speed, 80 Special Attack
- Leaf Storm
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- HP Ice

Mixed Sceptile (MixTile). One of my favorite pokemon to use, and it absolutely tears shit up. Against any team without Venusaur or SpD Weezing, MixTile is going to have a field day. Against offensive teams that rely on Fire types such as Moltres or Houndoom to take a Leaf Storm, Sceptile easily lures it in and eliminates it. Leaf Storm is still massively powerful, even with limited EV investment. QuakeSlide hit Fire/Poison types who try to soak up Leaf Storm. HP Ice hits Leafeon, Tangrowth, and offensive Venusaur, as long as I don't Leaf Storm on their switchin. EVs are kind of randomly placed. enough Speed to outpace base 115s and then I spread out the EVs so my Attack and Special Attack stats are roughly even. The Hasty nature boosts the all-important Speed stat, while dropping Defense. I opted for Hasty over Naive because Sceptile is going to be switching in on Surfs from bulky waters more often than any physical attack.

Magmortar @ Expert Belt
Nature: Naive
Flame Body
EVs: 4 Attack, 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Focus Punch

SubPunch Magmortar. Credit for this set goes to bad ass. This thing is an insanely good wallbreaker. Sub allows Magmortar to scout for its counters and then smash it with the appropriate attack. with maxed out Special Attack and Expert Belt, Thunderbolt 2HKOs most Milotic, eliminating the need to predict the switchin. Fire Blast hits like a truck on anything that doesn't resist it. Focus Punch allows Magmortar to lure in Houndoom, Chansey, and Clefable* and KO them. Clefable is a bitch and can neuter this strategy by packing Encore. In fact, Magmortar can 2HKO just about every pokemon on a typical stall team unless Clefable can come in and Encore my Sub. For this reason, I am considering using Cross Chop or Brick Break or even Low Kick over Focus Punch.

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
Solid Rock
EVs: 136 HP, 208 Attack, 164 Speed
- Substitute
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Megahorn

SubPerior. Since Smurf. popularized this set I've been using it on the majority of my teams because it kicks so much ass. Rhyperior causes many switches due to its massive physical bulk and humongous power, and this set capitalizes on both of those qualities. Only defensive behemoths such as max/max+ Milotic are able to avoid being 2HKOed by Rhyperior's awesome combination of coverage and power. On this team, Rhyperior has some offensive synergy going for it, as the team is packed with sweepers that can eliminate bulky waters or bring them into KO range for Rhyperior. Rhyperior can also weaken or set up on other walls, such as Chansey or Registeel, that wall my other sweepers. The HP EVs give it 101 HP Subs to evade SToss. The Speed EVs outpace minimum speed Weezing so I can Sub before they WoW me. The rest go into attack for maximum power.

Mismagius @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Levitate
EVs: 48 HP, 252 Speed, 208 Special Attack
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

SubCM Missy. I opted for the oft forgotten SubCM set on Mismagius rather than the Nasty Plot set because the SubCM set has the ability to set up on and create unbreakable Subs in the face of weak special attackers such as Milotic and defensive Venusaur. In fact, it may even get to +2 easier than the NP set since it has many more oppurtunites to set up and sweep. Thunderbolt over HP Fighting so I don't have the 30 Speed IV and also to hit Milotic and co. much harder. Registeel and Steelix fall to Rhyperior easily enough that Missy shouldn't be trying to bother with them. The EVs are Smogon standard.

Milotic @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Timid
Marvel Scale
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- HP Grass
- Recover

Meh. This thing was kind of thrown on here. It fares decently as a revenge killer and has good power. Its main targets are Swellow and DDGatr, both of whom it handles just fine. However, it lacks the raw power sometimes needed to sweep a team at the endgame or to break through more dedicated walls. I need a revenge killer in this slot, preferably one that can stand up to DDGatr. I've tested a Scarfed Blaziken in this slot, but not extensively enough to make any changes. Help me out here.

Final Thoughts

Well, that's the team. It's done pretty well on the ladder, but could certainly use some help. I appreciate your input.

Threat List (from Eo's RMT)

UU Threats

Absol - can't really switch in, and I always Sub instead of switching out if it comes in on Missy so it can't get a free SD.

Aggron - again, can't switch in and can't set up.

Alakazam - this guy is annoying. Missy can take a non-Specs Shadow Ball and OHKO back and Milotic can switch in once but only does around 60% with Surf.

Altaria - Milo is faster even if it gets a DD in. Defensive versions are dealt with by Rhyperior or Sceptile or boosted on by Missy.

Blaziken - This has trouble switching in, and really only has time for one attack. Sceptile and Milo easily revenge. Scarfed versions are walled by Rhyperior since they're mostly physical.

Chansey - A bit of a threat. Rhyperior shoves its eggs up its ass and Missy sets up but can't 2HKO. Magmortar has only lured in one of them, sadly.

Claydol - Claydol leads are handled easily by Kabutops, who can get up SR and threaten the KO with Aqua Jet. Missy blocks Spin and sets up on it.

Clefable - A bitch. If it has Encore, it can potentially wall my whole team bar Rhyperior. Magmortar can KO with Focus Punch + Fire Blast/Tbolt, but Encore versions definitely give me headaches.

Cloyster - Kabutops handles it fine, Stone Edge 2HKOes and I can spin the Spikes away.

Donphan - Massively raped by practically everything on my team.

Drapion - Rhyperior switches in and kills barring ridiculous EQ crits.

Dugtrio - Traps Magmortar, but is then easily disposed of.

Feraligatr -Milo switches in and outspeeds for the 2HKO. Can't set up very often.

Hariyama - Leads are a bitch, as I have to delay SR. Rhyperior outspeeds most of them and can land a hefty blow with EQ, but I need to do some switching in the beginning of the match.

Hitmonlee - Missy goes to mindgames with Sucker Punch/Stone Edge, but again can't switch in.

Hitmontop - Missy can block the spin, while it can't touch her unless it has Pursuit. Foresight + CC = lol Shadow Ball OHKO. Technitop is beaten by Rhyperior

Houndoom - Physical versions trap Missy, so I usually Sub when facing it. Apart from Missy, can't switch in and is taken care of by Milo.

Kabutops - Rain is a bit of a pain to any offensive team, and mine is no exception. Milo helps some of the switching and can kill it with HP Grass.

Lanturn - Agility Lanturns wreck my shit. Set up on by Missy and demolished by Sceptile.

Leafeon - Sceptile can get good damage with HP Ice and Missy can finish it, but if it gets +2 something on my team is gonna die.

Ludicolo - As I said, Rain is a bit of a problem. Switching around usually does the job and I can kill it with Sceptile. Luckily skilled rain users have all but disappeared.

Mesprit - beats Kabu in the lead slot, but I still get SR up and keep it off my side. Missy comes in for a free turn after Kabu dies.

Milotic - As always, a challenge to break down. Magmortar does a great job at luring and 2HKOing with Tbolt, and Sceptile obviously kills it. My team usually does a good enough job of wearing it down to eventually kill it.

Miltank - Thick Fat support gets beat by Rhyperior. Curse sets can only boost once before getting hit by a powerful Leaf Storm or Fire Blast

Mismagius - Nothing on my team likes switching into it, but it doesn't like switching into my team either. Sceptile outspeeds and won't get OHKO'd by Shadow Ball, Milotic can finish off weakened ones, and my Missy can pray for the speed tie.

Moltres - can't come in on anything except locked HP Grass, which is unlikely in the early or midgame. Sceptile rapes it.

Nidoking - Thankfully rather uncommon, Tops usually gets SR and a chunk of its health with Aqua Jet if it lacks Sucker Punch.

Omastar - Kabutops gets SR up and keeps the Spikes off my field, while hurting it a bit with Stone Edge.

Poliwrath - can be somewhat irritating, but lacks the raw power to do too much damage to my team. everything except Milo locked into Surf/Ice Beam can do good damage to it.

Regirock - Rhyperior gets a free Sub.

Registeel - Rhyperior all day. Unless it's a freaking SpecsSteel with Flash Cannon.

Rhyperior - Rhyperior outspeeds and 2HKOes support versions, while the RP set sets up on nothing and is revenged by Milo.

Rotom - outsped by Milo and destroyed, Scarf variants hurt but all my other pokes can take a Shadow Ball.

Sceptile - Looks threatening on paper, but I've usually worked around it some way or another. Milo if all else fails.

Scyther - Sceptile KO's with Rock Slide and Rhyperior walls it. Milo revenges if necessary.

Slowbro - Missy, Sceptile, and Magmortar all do hefty damage. Rhyperior 2HKOs if it comes in on Sub.

Slowking - Rhyperior can OHKO with Megahorn and Missy can set up after 2 CMs.

Spiritomb - CroTomb is 3HKOd by Rhyperior. Rhyperior also sets up a Sub as it comes in to Pursuit Missy.

Steelix - Sceptile and Magmortar threaten it, Milotic can kill it, and Rhyperior can switch in without too much trouble (though EQ does break my Subs).

Swellow - Rhyperior, then Milotic if Rhyperior is dead.

Tangrowth - Sceptile and Magmortar handily beat it. Missy also does good damage. Milo beats it in the Sun with Ice Beam.

Torterra - Sceptile kills it with HP Ice, Milo can revenge RP versions. I can't really prevent support versions from setting up SR on Missy though.

Toxicroak - can only come in on Kabu and Milo. Milo is usually saved for the endgame, while Kabu will be Stone Edging it to the grave.

Uxie - I get up SR and keep it off my side. Missy comes in. same as Mesprit.

Venusaur - If I'm feeling prediction happy, I'll be switching to Magmortar as Venu comes in on Sceptile. However, SR usually prevents me from playing that aggressively, so I let Mismagius take the sleep since it can beat all non-SD versions. Sceptile can 2HKO some with HP Ice, Magmortar scares the shit out of it, and Missy sets up on defensive ones. Milo can finish offensive versions.

Weezing - Rhyperior sets up if it can avoid WoW on the switch in. Missy sets up on it. Magmortar and Milo 2HKO it.

NU Threats

Articuno - Rare, and doesn't really threaten my team.

Cradily - Rhyperior is my only answer, Megahorn does huge damage. if Rhyperior is dead then I lose unless Magmortar can somehow Focus Punch when it's still at +0/1.

Exeggutor - Only time it can come in is on Sceptile's Leaf Storm, and Magmortar can take a Psychic and scare it out or OHKO it.

Jynx - Thank god Flare Blitz hasn't inspired too many more of these. I sac something to sleep and start wailing with Missy or Magmortar.

Kangaskhan - Rhyperior can handle anything except CB Aqua Tail.

Lapras - My entire team hits it super effectively, which is usualyl enough.

Manectric - Sceptile disposes of it, but can't switch into Flamethrower and dislikes Specs Tbolts. Milo revenges in a pinch.

Magmortar - Sceptile, Milotic.

Ninetales - if it has Hypnosis, Magmortar walls it. it shouldn't get too many oppurtunities to set up, and Sceptile and Milo both revenge it.

Pinsir - beaten by Kabu if it doesn't have Quick Attack. rarely seen outside of the lead slot.

Qwilfish - Kabu beats it with SE + Rapid Spin + Aqua Jet, if they don't Taunt I get up SR. Rain has been gone over.

Ursaring - outsped by Sceptile even with Quick Feet. can't really set up/switch in.

Mespirit over Milotic seems like a reasonable option. Higher attack, better coverage, and good bulk. A set with Trick/T-Bolt/Psychic/Whatever would probably do you some justice. Alternatively, if you are needing a pure revenge killer then Gardivoir would hit much harder.

Hi there. The first thing that sticks out as completely out of place is Milotic. You're mainly using it in the role of revenge killer., but due to its utility of beating Fire-types in general as well as checking Feraligatr and Swellow and the offensive nature of your team, it seems what you're really looking for is Azumarill:

184.png

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP/ 252 Atk/ 16 Spe
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Return
- Ice Punch

Standart CB Azumarill seems to be the answer to good part of your problems, as it can do exactly what Milotic has been doing for your team but packing much more of a punch and not slowing down your offensive momentum; while also not allowing Venusaur to switch in almost for free if you misspredict (the fact you're outrageously weak to Special LO Saur doesn't help either). You do miss on higher (special) defenses and access to Recover, but both of them are somewhat negligible considering the former is replaced by the higher HP and the latter by the fact Recover doesn't fit a choiced set at all.

The second problem I'd like to address with my rate is how weak you are to mons like Alakazam, Mismagius, some Grass-types (especially SD Sceptile and Venusaur) and pretty much any other fast special hitter (Manectric) or priority user (Toxicroack). You do have an answer to these mons in your own Sceptile and (if you take my advice) Azumarill's Aqua Jet, but due to neither of them making safe switch-ins to any of these threats, added to the risks of a speedtie on Sceptile's case or not accomplishing much with Aqua Jet on Azumarill's case; it won't be long until your opponent picks out all your defenses and just goes for a straight sweep. With all that clusterfuck of ideas in mind, you have many options such as Registeel over Rhyperior (BaitSteel could be used to maintain your team's offense, but isn't very durable and only checks Grass-types through Explosion) or offensive Arcanine over Magmortar (doesn't make a brillant switch-in but has access to recovery, priority and isn't trapped by Dugtrio).

Of course, both of these changes could be implemented as BaitSteel supports Arcanine considerably well, while standart Registeel makes a good addition whether you decide to change Magmortar; but that would be changing your team to much so I'll just leave these suggestions here.

arcanine2_display.png

Arcanine @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
- Flare Blitz
- Extremespeed
- Thunder Fang
- Morning Sun

Big confusing rate, lots of tl;dr, but I tried to put as much thought as I could. Good luck =)

Hey uragg,

This is a pretty good team. As Bluewind said, a Scarf Milotic seems a bit iffy, and Azumarill makes a far better revenge killer for the threats you mentioned, while also packing a lot more power than Milotic.

Strong and fast special attackers are a big, big problem. None of your Pokemon can reliably switch into them, so your only hope is revenge-killing. Zam and Missy in particular can rip through your team. Since yours is a very offensively natured
team, I'd suggest switchin to a MixDoom over Magmortar. This means that you can now ditch into the STAB moves of Zam and Missy, and other Sucker Punch for the kill or Pursuit them on the switch. You do lose an excellent Milotic lure , but Azumarill lures in Milotic and does a truckload with Double-Edge:

Houndoom@Life Orb
252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Sp Atk
Hasty
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Crunch/Thunder Fang
- Fire Blast

If stall starts to give you a bit more trouble, you could always switch Mismagius' set to a NP stall breaker set. Great team, and gl.

Hey guys, thanks for the rates.

@ Overhazard: while I believe Mesprit would work better than Milotic, I have a different revenge killer in mind that could work out better for my team. As for Gardevior, I mentioned in the my team-building that I didn't want Pursuit bait and Gardy is easily disposed of by Spritiomb.

@ Bluewind: thanks for the rate. while not very straightforward, the litany of problems you presented to me led me to an idea. I guess I just haven't run into many of these strong and fast sweepers, so I never really saw how much they rape my team. I'll get to what I have in mind for the team at the end of the post.

@ IB: hey dude, thanks for the rate. I see you made it to #1 like always, congrats on that. As everyone, including myself, pointed out, Scarf Milo isn't exactly the best idea. Your singling out of Missy and Zam as the main threats to my team led me to the idea that I have. I'm not sure about adding MixDoom over Magmortar, because Magmortar takes care of Milo pretty handily on the switchin and because I have a more surefire way to deal with those two.

Using the weaknesses that you guys pointed out and my analytical abilities, I came up with the idea of putting a Scarf Skuntank in place of Milotic. Skuntank's typing and decent bulk allows it to come in pretty easily on both Missy and Zam and either surprise it with a fast Crunch or catch it fleeing with Pursuit. Skuntank would also be able to deal with Sceptile and Venusaur reasonably, resisting their STAB moves and OHKOing and 2HKOing offensive versions, respectively. Finally, Explosion gives it a great move to take out a problematic sweeper, such as DDGatr. I feel like this is a pretty good change to make to the team without revising it entirely. This change would leave me open to Rhyperior and Aggron if they catch me locked into Pusuit, which may prove problematic. Tell me what you guys think of this potential change.
If it's a stupid idea that will make the team worse, then I'll stick CB Zuzu over Milo and work from there.

Have in mind that if you go with that change you'll be extremely weak to pretty much any offensive fire-type, remarkably Moltres, HP Grass Arcanine and other Magmortars. I really think Azumarill is the right way to go about that last spot on your team as it checks Alakazam well, while also providing you with a solid switch-in to the aformentioned fire-types. Another thing I had meant to say when I rated your team but that I ended up keeping as a moot point is that your lead seems to be a bit out of place. Of course, it gives you a very solid opening against virtually any team, but you don't seem to have that many problems with rocks; and maybe a flexible mon like Mesprit or Uxie fits you better (especially the former), as they are durable enough to survive until late game and check some of your main nemesis, like Venusaur. You can also tweak their movesets and EV spreads to help in that regard.
