ORAS UU Full Stall! Yay!

Hey everyone! As someone new to UU, my first serious attempt building a team was this extremely defensive team. This team performed fairly decently on ladder, reaching roughly 1400 ELO (not anything amazing, but good for a first try). However, there definitely are problems, which as an inexperienced UU builder I am having difficulties remedying. So, that's why I posted this RMT, and am asking you, the reader, to help this team out.

The Defensive Core:

snorlax.gif

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 144 HP / 188 Def / 176 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

First of all, I knew I needed a good solid special sponge. CurseLax was what I chose for that slot, as it answers almost any special hitter and can paralyze back. Lax also provides inevitability with a lategame Curse sweep. Rest + Talk gives somewhat reliable recovery, and also allows Lax to come in on Roserade.

vaporeon.gif

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 204 HP / 248 Def / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
- Roar

Vaporeon was chosen as another solid wall, which also has the ability to wish pass. This can help keep the team at high HP, which they need to take on the threats they can wall. Scald is chosen because it's clearly broken and beats every physical attacker in the game. Protect allows Vaporeon to heal up after Wish without the potential of being killed. Finally, Roar allows Vaporeon to faze out setup sweepers, such as Suicune or Salamence, as otherwise these can be problematic.

gligar.gif

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Defog
- Stealth Rock

Gligar was chosen to do exactly one job, a job it does well: take on physical attackers. Namely, banded Heracross, which otherwise puts in serious work versus this team. EQ is Gligar's best STAB option and a way to hit physical Fire-Types super effectively. Roost is necessary on this set, as otherwise Gligar gets worn down extremely quickly. Defog is also an excellent move, as this team's only way to remove hazards. Finally, my last move is Stealth Rock, as it is this team's only way to get up the all important entry hazard. This also works with Vaporeon's phazing.

umbreon.gif

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Foul Play
- Wish
- Moonlight
- Heal Bell

Umbreon is my second answer to physical attackers, as well as a second wish-passer to keep the team healthy. Foul Play is solid move which ignores Umbreon's lackluster attacking stats, and hits physical attackers on the switch very hard. Wish + Moonlight provides good recovery, and gives Umbreon good staying power. Finally, Heal Bell was chosen as a final move to cure status effects such as Toxic and Burns, which are quite problematic to this team.

The PP Stalling Beast

kyurem.gif

Kyurem @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Dragon Pulse
- Substitute
- Roost

An incredibly underrated threat in ORAS UU is Substitute + Roost Kyurem, which not only packs powerful attacks but has the potential to abuse Substitute and stall PP with Pressure. Attacking moves are selected as Dual STABs to get the most out of Kyurem's solid SpA stat, which can put solid dents in a large portion of the meta. Dragon Pulse > Draco Meteor since Kyurem will often be staying in a lot, and the SpA drops are not appreciated.

The Assassin

dugtrio.gif

Dugtrio @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Aerial Ace
- Stone Edge

Yet another very underrated threat is CB Dugtrio, thanks to its ability Arena Trap, preventing the opponent from switching. Almost anything weak to Earthquake can be revenged easily, especially Choice Locked mons. Stone Edge and Aerial Ace provide additional coverage, with Stone Edge hitting Flying-types and Aerial Ace anhillating Heracross. Sucker Punch also does good damage, and provides priority, allowing Dugtrio to revenge kill threats which would otherwise outspeed it, such as M-Beedrill or scarfers.

Thanks for reading my RMT! If there are any obvious problems, please tell me!

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 144 HP / 188 Def / 176 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Dugtrio @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Aerial Ace
- Stone Edge

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 204 HP / 248 Def / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
- Roar

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Defog
- Stealth Rock

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Foul Play
- Wish
- Moonlight
- Heal Bell

Kyurem @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 56 HP / 220 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Dragon Pulse
- Substitute
- Roost

Nice team Eternis but I feel like this isn't really full stall and is some weird semi-stall, so I'm here to rate it for ya!
  • First off, I really feel like Toxic Spikes would benefit this team with mons such as Curselax and SubRoost Kyurem so I am suggesting Tentacruel > Vaporeon. Right now, Vaporeon is not a particularly good mon and Tentacruel not only provides Toxic Spikes, but it also can spin away hazards, absorbs Toxic Spikes itself (which this team hates), and provide a solid defensive core with Umbreon.
  • With Tentacruel providing Rapid Spin, I feel like Gligar is not longer needed as it is Mamoswine bait, which stall teams really hate, and it is rly weak even when hitting supereffectively. That being said, I suggest running Swampert > Gligar as this provides you with a more solid Fire resist that isn't worried about burns thanks to Umbreon's cleric support, a better physical wall, and can burn Mamoswine / OHKO it after a bit of prior damage with Scald. It also gives you a phazer which is very nice for Toxic Spike teams.
  • Next up, I suggest changing Kyurem's EVs to 56 HP / 220 SpA / 232 Spe as this gives Kyurem 405 HP, allowing it to make 101 HP Substitutes as well as being able to switch into Stealth Rock 5 times instead of 4 so it can do a better job of stalling out mons such as Blissey and this works very well in conjunction with Tentacruel's Toxic Spikes support. I also suggest running Earth Power > Dragon Pulse so Kyurem has a way to hit Steel-types supereffectively that are immune to Toxic Spikes as well as hitting Poison-types who may try to absorb the TSpikes.
  • Now onto the weird part of the team...honestly, I do not get why you want CB Dugtrio on what is supposed to be a full stall team. I suggest running something else over it as Dugtrio is normally stationed on offensive teams only and the idea behind stall is to upset stall out your opponent. I am going to suggest bulky Mega Aerodactyl > Dugtrio as this gives back your Ground immunity with Gligar gone and provides a stallbreaker for opposing stall.
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP / 16 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Roost
- Earthquake

Hope you enjoy my changes and good luck with the team!

Eternis I do hope you log back in and look at your rates because I think this team has very good potential.

But you have right now way too many weaknesses to be effective against too many teams, particularly to Slurpuff, physical dragons, Reuniclus, Sub CM Chandelure, Sableye, Toxic Spike users in a sense, Lucario with Ice Punch or Nasty Plot and Feraligatr

Additionally two Wish users seem redundant and I do not understand why you have Dugtrio on this team like some people have already mentioned.

Right now I would rate your team a 5 out of 10 based on its effectiveness.

Pearls revisions fixes almost all of your weaknesses so I would overall pick his rate over NV's assuming you use Mega Steelix and Salmence with Defog and Earthquake (for Chandelure and Lucario) but you're still bodied by Reuniclus and now even Crawdaunt and Gyarados now with lack of Kyurem and Vaporeon to check them respectively. You also are weaker to Cobalion since speedy FatMence (needed for Chandelure and Luke) is a shaky counter at best. You could do Pearl's edits and additionally have Sableye over Dragalge, which may help overall against those Pokemon but not much against Crawdaunt to be honest and you do lose both a Toxic Spikes user and an absorber. I think it would be worth it but still double edged.

Alternatively you could follow different advice and start from your team again keeping the weaknesses I mentioned in mind.

Taunt over Wish on Umbreon lets you have a good chance of beating Reuniclus, certainly better than the one your current team has. Wish is already present in Vaporeon and not really needed again.

Alomomola over Vaporeon gives you more bulk in general with generally a better chance versus Feraligatr.

Whirlwind on Snorlax patches up a weakness to Chandelure and gives you a phazing move lost when no longer using Vaporeon. However Crunch or Earthquake seems to be very good too, all of these would be over Sleep Talk.

Physically defensive Nidoqueen over Gligar really helps you absorb Toxic Spikes which you are weak to since Gligar cannot switch in to Roserade or Dragalge. You also get a very shakey counter to Slurpuff which is better than no counter at all to be fair. I'm not sure about the moveset but SR and dual STAB seem necessary. Last

Since that means you lose your Defogger you can drop the relatively useless Digtrio and use Salamence with Defog and Roost and either Flame/EQ/Aerial Ace since you are beginning to see a Heracross weakness and these are just the general moves for FatMence with speed (to check Lucario, SubCM Chandy, Roserade). Alternatively you could just run the true FatMence with near maximum defense because you already have checks or counters to everything fast FatMence counters. In this case consider Toxic and Flamethrower.

Kyurem I honestly do not see helping you very much when your weaknesses right now are really Slurpuff and Physical Dragons and some type of Feraligatr or Gyarados.

One way to check them all would be to use Mega Aggron which obviously beats Slurpuff and is one of the best Physical Dragon response even if it's not perfect. Additionally you can Roar out Sub Gatr and Gyarados while Alomomola can generally handle other variants. Heavy Slam and Roar would be necessary but other slots are free for Rest, EQ, Ice Punch, Stealth Rock (and you could use Toxoc Spikes Nidoqueen and even something over Sludge Wave since you have a Slurpuff counter now) and Thunderpunch (lol), ThunderWave among others. Toxic in particular helps the Sableye weakness you have but one tactic you have against that is Synchronizing the WilloWisp and using Nidoqueen from there.

Tl,dr

If you use Pearl's suggestions I recommend Sableye (specially defensive) over Dragalge mainly because Reuniclus.

If you want to go another route and perhaps keep slightly more of your original I would use

Vappy->alomomola
Umbreon wish->taunt
Snorlax Sleep talk->either crunch eq or whirlwind
Gligar-->phys defense nidoqueen
Kyurem->FatMence
Dugtrio->Aggron Mega with Roar/thunder punch or something for Sub gatr/gyara

I would rate both my revision and Pearl's revision + Sableye a 7 or 8 based on effectiveness.

Good luck with your team and whatever changes, if any, you decide on.
