How is halving damage a stretch? Would you want the Pokemon to be instead immune to moves boosted by Technician? Its a balancing measure, and is not that big of a deal, especially in light of a bunch of other abilities that currently exist in FE.
or you could just do effects of both abilities or something? halving damage appears in neither ability and that part barely even has any use in the first place. also i wouldnt use fe abilities as some kind of precedent when a lot of them are insane and feuu was created exactly to distance ourselves from it lol

Toxic Play - Effects of Mold Breaker and Corrosion

dna.png

And with that, we move on to the Discussion Phase! How do you think these new pokémon will impact the meta and what sets do they run?

Ema Skye

Work!
I am most excited for Hawlazzle as Mold Breaker Toxic has a lot of applications in the meta. I anticipate it doing quite well.

Noze will also be quite impactful as we've been conceptualizing trappers for a while and this one seems to be what we're looking for.

Kingdeedeedee will also find a place due to the flexibility with its terrain. Psychic terrain monke intensifies.

Very indifferent to the other three.

Thoughts time!

:sirfetch’d::cursola:
I like this one, seems to be built well around its unresisted STAB with a ton of good options for its other two moveslots, while being held back hard by its speed tier. Its spammable Fighting moves are less valuable all of a sudden with Noze around to kill the viability of the two Steels you’d really be looking to hit with it, but this will definitely have a niche.

:necrozma-dawn-wings::nosepass:
I hate this mon tbh. I get that people don’t like Steels and wanted a trapper, and this isn’t optimized to beat every Steel which is good, but the Steels that this CAN trap are all extremely passive, which spells a recipe for disaster when paired with all of the setup options this thing has. People are hyping up Meteor Beam, but realistically this just runs Lefties Sub+CM so that it can get to +6 on Ferros and Brontun and Igglyzenta and any other passive Steels introduced down the line to set up an easy 2+ kills, which seems extremely unhealthy to me. Welp, at least Ultra’s cool.

:bruxish::luxray:
Just a mid-speed physical breaker, though we didn’t really have a dedicated one before so that’s cool. Not much else to say here, it’s simple but effective.

:slowking::indeedee:
Not sure what to think of this tbh, hits hard with exactly Expanding Force but is so slow that it’s not really worth using, especially when better special Psychic-type breakers aka Manicuno exist. Ig this has FuturePort, but between its stats and typing idt it can pull that off particularly well either. A dedicated psyterrain abuser would give this a reason to exist.

:tapu-bulu::komala:
Weird mon, has some obnoxious subseed protect sets but can also go offensive, though I feel like I’d prefer buffed Kingtsar rn for Spin + SD. I’m pretty conflicted on this rn, feels like one of those mons where its best sets aren’t going to be immediately obvious.

:hawlucha::salazzle:
My favourite winner this slate, Hawlazzle is somehow our first original dedicated stallbreaker despite being 11 non-drop slates deep. Its Toxics are pretty obnoxious, but it loses to enough mons that are immune to them to balance it out. Good mon.

This is my first time to say something in Discussion Phase, so I will talk about set I'll run on these fusions.
Sirsola @ Leftovers
Ability: Scrappy Armor
Evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

And that's it. Feels free to complain if you don't like it.

Sirsola: yeah so im still kinda worried about the fact that it's a ghost/fighting mon with scrappy and weak armor, but once it's balanced (which theres a good chance that it already is), i think it'll be a good addition to the metagame.

Noze-Dawn-Wings: the steel types are dead, and i'm not sure if thats good or bad.

Bruxray: It has guts, strong jaw and STAB psychic fangs, which worries me quite a bit.

Kingdeedee: cool pivot, im down

Tapu Koma: I really like the combination of abilities, but it might be on the strong side

Hawlazzle: so it can poison ANYTHING. nice.

nice slate we got here

fourth times the charm
:swsh/milotic: :swsh/whimsicott:

DNA Donors/ Parents: Milotic / Whimsicott
Offspring Name: Whimsilotic
New Types:

Base Stats: 85 / 63 / 85 / 105 / 105 / 105 [BST: 548] (+8 HP / +0 Atk / +3 Def / +17 SpA / +5 SpD / +7 Spe)
New Ability: Covert Ops = (Competitive + Infiltrator)
Ability Description: Effects of both abilities.
Notable/Relevant/Useful Moves:
Flip Turn, Knock Off, U-Turn
Scald, Moonblast, Ice Beam, Giga Drain
Recover, Haze, Defog, Leech Seed, Taunt
Role Justification: versatile af. great offensive and defensive typing, beating arctres-galar in particular, and a lot of good support moves. partners real well with kyottler obviously cause of rain but less obviously by dissuading defogging its webs. i think its a good addition to the meta because a lot of the defensive checks to mons we have rn are weak to koff which is really weird. like:

weak to koff: toxalure, chomplim(-mega), dusking, jelliswine, tentoxys-defense, mesflame, sableior(-meteor, -mega), meloslash-ranged, cofazor(-mega), meloslash-ranged, noze, kingdeedee
doesnt like koff: slowton (vest); volquag, dragontler, toucosta, gossephalon, kyottler (hdb)
resists koff but doesnt like koff: tanette (evio); arctres, talonsyl, umbat (hdb)

vs:
resists koff: tapu lop (lol), igglyzenta (lol), hattataka, tornachamp, tapu koma
doesnt care about koff: miemie (to an extent), slurpum, glidol, ferros, xotalion, any mega not weak to koff

so i think more koff resistant mons are good and this is a good koff resistant mon.

defensively checks: arctres-galar, pigapult, glidol, scolisharp, ninjacross, weezlord-galar, glasnow, clawliwrath, cofazor, heatki
defensively checked by: volquag, slowton, ferros, tentoxys-defense, thornbro-galar, snortine

Roost, Stealth Rock, Defog, Glare, Calm Mind
Intended Role: Physical Wall, Defensive Pivot, Hazard Setter (Stealth Rock), Hazard Removal (Defog)
Role Justification: earl said a defensive dragon fighting mon would be p cool so heres my take. its got very good physical bulk as well as a good offensive presence thanks to coverage and high spa so its not passive.

defensively checks: arctres-galar, kingtsar, heatki, pinch
defensively checked by: fairy-types, cofazor (if not flamethrower), slowton

Stealth Rock, Taunt, Substitute, Belly Drum, Swords Dance
Intended Role: Screens Abuser, Physical Wallbreaker, Set-up Sweeper (Belly Drum), Hazards Setter (Stealth Rock)
Role Justification: tried to emulate kommo-o in vanilla but its immune to heatki's prankster boosted moves like twave/wow and taunt because those would really shit on this. anyway its a fat mon that clicks bdrum with sub and salac to muscle through walls. this might be too much though considering stab liquidation + koff is probably much better than stab drain punch + nonstab tpunch idk.

Rock Slide, Power Whip, Earthquake, Body Press
Giga Drain, Earth Power, Power Gem, Weather Ball
Synthesis, Teleport, Stealth Rock. Sleep Powder, Trick Room
Intended Role: Sun Setter, Hazard Setter (Stealth Rock), Defensive Pivot, Physical Wall
Role Justification: gets the cool sun + synthesis + teleport to ensure a safe switchin to dracodoom mega. plus has a surprising amount of coverage so it can hit what it wants. rock grass is a notoriously bad defensive typing though

defensively checks: not anything specifically but has ok bulk to switch into most neutral/resisted hits
defensively checked by: depending on coverage, steels/waters/grounds
soft checked by: anything that can take a hit and hit it supereffectively

Roost, Defog, Will-o-Wisp
Intended Role: Offensive Pivot, Hazard Removal (Defog)
Role Justification: fire type that can get past brontun and heatki, as well as switch into them pretty well. has regen to shore up damage from its recoil moves but not too much bulk to be that annoying i dont think.

defensively checks: heatki, brontun, yacian, tanette (if no koff), slurpum, landmaldo, gossephalon (if no koff), hattataka, cofazor, ninjacross (if no koff), flaant

New Ability: Item Boost = (Unburden + Beast Boost)
Ability Description: This pokemon's highest stat is increased by 1 stage when it loses its item.
Notable Moves:
Knock Off, U-Turn
Bug Buzz, Final Gambit, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Flash Cannon, Focus Blast, Meteor Beam
Encore, Leech Seed, Recover, Spikes, Substitute, Toxic Spikes
Intended Role: Special Setup Sweeper, Hazard Setter, Offensive Pivot
Role Justification: Accelest's good speed and decent bulk paired with a nice defensive typing makes it a good bulky/fast pivot with good utility through spikes, tspikes or sub/seed. Outside of fast utility sets, it can also go for a more offensive set involving Meteor Beam and its ability, letting it get +1 spatk and +1 speed, making it a decent sweeping threat when paired with its decent coverage. Finally, it could fit a small niche as a Spikes setting suicide lead.

New Ability: Heroic Snow = (Snow Warning + Justified)
Ability Description: When this pokemon switches in or gets hit by a dark move, it sets up hail.
Notable Moves:
Explosion
Blizzard, Focus Blast, Freeze-Dry
Aurora Veil, Calm Mind, Taunt
Intended Role: Special Wallbreaker, Special Setup Sweeper, Choice Specs/Scarf
Role Justification: Fast special wallbreaker. Its high power stab alongside its solid spatk stat and speed make it a threatening pokemon to deal with. While it's not very versatile, it could make use of a few moves alongside its w3 main stabs. Explosion is probably what you'll want to go for on choiced sets, it can be used to get a teammate in safely and could make or break a game despite being situational. Non-choiced sets can make use of Aurora Veil, Calm Mind or Taunt. The only pokemon that can take its stab combo well are cofazor and mesflame, meaning you have to be quite careful when playing around Vanizion.

Ability Description: Effect of both abilities.
Notable Moves:
Flip Turn, Knock Off, Liquidation, Plasma Fists, Rapid Spin
Scald?
Stealth Rock, Swords Dance, Taunt, Toxic
Intended Role: Suicide Lead, Offensive Pivot, Setup Sweeper
Role Justification: Kabuora is fast and has a lot of utility with Rapid Spin, Knock Off, Taunt, Stealth Rock and Flip Turn making it a nice support pivot. It can also be a good suicide lead thanks to its good speed, Rocks and Taunt. It can also be a setup sweeper thanks to Swords Dance and good offensive stats. It can't really touch grass types but it can still use Toxic, Knock Off or Flip Turn against them, crippling them or gaining momentum. Outside of that, you can expect it to do a lot of Zeraora stuff as a fast supportive pivot.
