Probably just figured there wasn't a good place for it story-wise and that Castelia was big enough as-is. But figured they needed something to differentiate Castelia in the sequel so went back to the concept
Chimecho is noted for being a Nov 2001-March 2002 mon that was removed mid dev, then reinserted late dev. The design was by Ken Sugimori
It seems it replaced Misdreavus for the Mt. Pyre encounter table after May/June 2002, which meant Misdreavus was removed Gen 2 rep that wouldn't be obtainable without later Gen 3 titles

Oh I had kept meaning to bring it up, but Beta Kyurem's wings are cool because I think that element -of these strange pronged "wings" pointed forward- still made it to final but only in a round about way: the very first thing I thought of on seeing it was the cutscene where it breaks its pronged "wings" free of its ice and flings them forward to begin absofusion.
Likely meant for a different purpose originally, but cool to see how design elements can carry over in that way.
What I have always found weird is that Black and White Kyurem instead had those wing "tips" or whatever you want to call them instead connect to the tails in the opposite direction as some sort of generator wires. I guess it makes sense since grey Kyurem doesn't have anything on its tail to even connect to, but it's interesting since Reshiram and Zekrom could access their "overdrive" without doing so.
then again I thought about that because I know both versions of that cutscene by heart...and because it implies there may be something else under Kyurem's ice parts, poor thing isn't as deformed as some "naked" fanarts make it look like
Still, as someone who thinks grey Kyurem is a fantastic underrated design, I'm very glad we got it. I remember being freaked out by it as a preteen, but you really can't do any better when creating an incomplete ice counterpart of the other two. Beta has nothing going from it other than being slight alien-looking which I guess fits for the BW1 supposed background for it.
We don't have anything on beta Black/White forms right?

Notable that Misdreavus was extremely rare in Gen 2 (only in Mt. Silver at night and with no trainers using it afaik), it was gonna be very rare in RSE with a 2% encounter in a small patch of grass in Mt. Pyre and they decided to remove it altogether. Then the following generation it became much more common, maybe they realized it wasn't that special?
Also in the very same generation Misdreavus was a pretty early "encounter" in Colosseum and was a 5-20% encounter in FRLG's post game.
I don't think they planned to make it rare because they thought it was special, I think they just wanted something rare on the peak of Mt Pyre and a single staged ghost Pokemon fit the area

I actually think power creep played into this more than anything else. Johto infamously has a lot of "future NFEs" like Sneasel and Aipom, but Misdreavus was definitely one of the best ones. Being a pure Ghost-type helped with that since high-powered Dark and Ghost moves weren't hugely widespread in Gen II. Even in Gen III it still very much feels like a Pokemon that can compete with fully-evolved mons; Agatha has it on her rematch team in FRLG and it's in the top-tier roster in Gen III's Battle Frontier, and neither of those feel out of place for it.
Gen IV saw a massive jump in the average total BST, as well as a lot more high-powered moves and general better availability. Suddenly Misdreavus looks a lot more like an unevolved Pokemon (which is, of course, what it became) and no longer a junk rare. The same is true of a lot of similar species - Dunsparce went from blindingly rare in Gen II to a literal 100% encounter rate in Gen III, Yanma got increasingly easier to find, and Qwilfish went from being a swarm species in GSC to a version-exclusive in FRLG to just being a standard fishing encounter in Gen IV. Murkrow, of course, had pretty much an identical trajectory to Misdreavus.
Aipom's the only species from this "group" that basically stayed more or less the same rarity, interestingly - it's mid-level rarity from Headbutt trees in GSC, was a Safari Zone mon in Emerald, and is a fairly uncommon honey tree spawn in DPP.

That's so fascinating. If I had to guess a Johto pokémon that was cut from the Hoenn dex, Misdreavus wouldn't have been it. I think it is a bit of a shame that Misdreavus was cut in favor of Chimecho, rather than both having a spot.
We have confirmation that Deoxys Speed was done super late
The other forms were done by March 2003, with further anime model sheets made in October. Speed wouldn't be done till April 2004
Sadly despite being finished and having model sheets, the movie (Destiny Deoxys, 7 months later) wouldn't have it shown
Also it'd explain why it's bulkier than Deoxys Regular for some fucking reason in Emerald, they really tacked it on suddenly

I always felt it was weird how similar Deoxys-Regular and Deoxys-Attack are in stats. Like at such high and low extremes the extra 30 points hardly matters (you're not surviving much more at 50 Defence than you are at 20) and the fact that they have identical Speed feels strange. Like Deoxys-A could feasibly be slower than Deoxys-R because it's sacrificed agility for raw power or equally you could make the argument that Deoxys-A gains some speed as part of its commitment to strength but why make them equally fast? Just feels uninspired.
It's why Deoxys-Speed is the form I prefer, as it doesn't sacrifice everything else to be that fast (and it totally could have - it's not hard to imagine a spread of, say, 50/80/80/80/80/230). But 95 offenses and 90 defences are perfectly workable even with that garbage HP.
It has always felt weird for the pokemon whose gimmick is shifting into forms focused on different stat lines that the base form is so offensive. It really should have just been a flat 100 per stat form.
I guess they didn't want it to overlap too much with jirachi? Wanted the low HP too much?
Deoxys strikes me as one of those Pokemon that really could use a mechanical overhaul. Rework Regular's stats, let it switch forms on the fly and change up its abilities.

Even if they wanted it to have only 50 HP, they could have done something like 50/125/100/125/100/100, or 50/125/75/125/75/150 if they still wanted Normal and Attack formes to have matching speed.
I think part of the problem is that the formes weren't fully designed when the Normal forme was. So when they added Normal Deoxys stat-line in RS (which imo fits Deoxys perfectly in a vacuum), the other formes might have not been in consideration yet. If they had all been designed at the same time, there would likely be more consideration for making all the formes' stat-lines distinct.
Deoxys strikes me as one of those Pokemon that really could use a mechanical overhaul. Rework Regular's stats, let it switch forms on the fly and change up its abilities.
I would argue it needs it even on a conceptual level. Its stats are not really that crazy nowadays due to powercreep but, above everything else, its entire gimmick of "I can change forms out of battle" is just...no special anymore.
Don't get me wrong, back in gen 3 when you couldn't even change its forms at will it felt like a crazy concept fitting for a Mythical. But for newer fans? I really don't think you can tell them "look, this guy changes forms! They have different stats!" and expect them to be impressed.
I guess you could say the same for Celebi lore-wise because of Dialga and tecnically Terapagos, but that isn't a mechanical issue as none of them actually have time control in-game. (And even then, Deoxys main thing in that aspect was also being alien...which now feels unimpressive with the UBs and Eternatus).
I don't think there is any need to rework something like Deoxys to be "more impressive"
It's Deoxys. That's all it needs to be. You will be excited for Deoxys, because it's Deoxys and it's strong and it's neat.

Depends, unless we learn more about early BW's plot development we can't say for sure. It could very well be that, at this point when the sprite was made, the story that Reshiram & Zekrom split from Kyurem was what they were going for and this was a way it was envisioned it would recombine with them. Looking between beta Kyurem (both the sprite and fan "clean-ups") and final Kyurem, I can see where design elements were adjusted and moved around. And the most major addition between the two is the ice armor around the "wings" (which are more like tentacles on both designs, which makes me think they could have had a similar purpose since the start); a bit sort of existed on beta Kyurem on its tail and legs, but it got really pronounced when they decided to cover the wings with it (and I guess its head). And how convenient it did so we didn't suspect a thing until B2W2 showed their true purpose.
What I have always found weird is that Black and White Kyurem instead had those wing "tips" or whatever you want to call them instead connect to the tails in the opposite direction as some sort of generator wires. I think Kyurem having to use its wires to access the overdrive makes sense. While they were all one dragon once, to me it seems clear that Reshiram and Zekrom have become their own separate beings. Kyurem is forcing them to recombine with it, gaining their general body shape in the process. But it's a stolen body, Kyurem cannot naturally access their power and/or their fighting back from inside not letting it. So to get the overdrive power it needs to use its wing spikes like wires to override the limitation/resistance.
What else is there to hide? Unless it has a really different looking face in its "base" form, I think what the wings actually were was the only secret under the ice armor.
Let's not forget only BW's main game was restricted to Gen V Pokemon, post game areas had plenty of old faces return. Castelia Sewers may as very well been a post game location, a new place with "new Pokemon" in an old location giving you a reason to go back. Though that could also be why it was removed, they had a whole entire east side of Unova dedicated to post game, did they also need new area in old locations to open up too?
It has always felt weird for the pokemon whose gimmick is shifting into forms focused on different stat lines that the base form is so offensive. It really should have just been a flat 100 per stat form.
I guess they didn't want it to overlap too much with jirachi? Wanted the low HP too much?
Probably a combination of not wanting to overlap with the "6-100 Mythicals" and the idea its an unstable virus (fragile but fast to evolve).
So in that context Normal's stats does make sense even if they're a bit close to Attack as QuentinQuonce noted. Something like AmbientDinosaur's suggested stats of 50/125/75/125/75/150 would probably gotten that point across better (though I could also see someone thinking that 50/110/110/110/110/110 would make sense for a "Normal"/default form).
Deoxys strikes me as one of those Pokemon that really could use a mechanical overhaul. Rework Regular's stats, let it switch forms on the fly and change up its abilities.

I do think Deoxys needs something, but not a complete overhaul.
Different Abilities yes. Pressure just feels like a placeholder for Legendary Abilities that they never got around to giving something more creative. Like, seriously, you couldn't think of at least 3 different Abilities for Deoxys very thematic forms? I'll give you three from Gen III: Attack gets Own Tempo, Defense gets Shell Armor, Speed gets Limber. Already I feel that's a massive improvement, and that's not getting into the really good later Gen Abilities.
I also think Deoxys is due for new forms. Now the leak revealed the original concept behind Deoxys forms so if that's still a thing in the background we have a "Red Giant", "Big Bang" and "Black Hole" to go to. But honestly, while I did speculate on it, I still think my suggestion for a Physical (50/180/160/20/40/150//600) and Special (50/20/40/180/160/150//600) form would be more in-line with what we got, especially if they give each from unique Abilities. Though we know GF doesn't like to be predictable so .
The PokeLeaks Reddit have mostly stopped. So before I start digging back, here's some last few "new ones" from like a week or so ago:
---------
Celesteela originally was going to be quite a unique Ultra Beast. It was going to be based on a Japanese plush called "Mendako", a generally octopus plush toy ("mendako" is the Japanese name of a similar looking umbrella octopus species) which you're able to flip inside-out with each "side" having a different expression. Celesteela was going to have two forms based on this concept. I'm not sure if it being made of bamboo was also still a thing, bamboo octopus would certainly be unique but the bamboo aspect kind of goes hand-in-hand with the rocket as it's based on the Japanese legend The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.
Also want to quickly comment on the UB's codenames. Now I think it was revealed at some point their codenames were based on the seven colors in a rainbow, but I don't remember if we were exactly told who was what color. And while on the surface it would seem obvious, this shows who was what color and I have to wonder how different the UBs were when being designed:
Huh. Though, in what I'm guessing is the original planned doc (showing Ultra Beasts used to be called "Parallel Beasts"), Green Parallel Beast was noted to be "Jellyfish alien" while Red was "Shikigami Alien. Very thin". No other Parallel Beast aside from Red, Green, and Purple had notes.
Later on another doc very likely later on in development had spreadsheet tabs with the second form of Celesteela grayed out as a note on top essentially says "grayed out Pokemon are not yet finalized". One of these docs still called them "Parallel Beasts" and noted their animation while standing & walking. But another tab on the same doc did show they were being called "Ultra Beasts" and gave them additional codenames & remakes: Nihilego was "Jellyfish" and remarks "Parasitizing the UBs Jellyfish Representative" (I think there was maybe meant to be a comma before Representative). Guzzlord was "Large" though had no remakes. Buzzwole had no other codename but was remarked "Muscle Mosquito". Xurkitree was "Electric" and remarked "Illumination". Pheromosa was "Cockroach" and remarked "Super Beautiful Cockroach". Kartana was "Kami" and remarked "Origami". Celesteela was "Event" and remarked "Bamboo Rocket". And finally a doc likely closer to final product has their official names.

And now probably the biggest spoiler: Original (and possibly still happening?) plans for the Horizon Anime. Because things on here may still happen (and there being a slight Gen 10 spoiler), I'm putting it in a spoiler tag.
Rising Volt Tacklers original name were "Legends".
The Brave Olivine was a flying Pokemon Lab.
Initially it was only Friede, Orio (Orla), Mollie, Murdock, and a scrapped "navigator". Fried was in his 20s, Mollie was a normal Nurse Joy & 25 years old, Orio was planned to be the anime's canonically first gay character & 18 years old, Murdock was going to have a Pawniard and Combee & 40 years old, and Captain Pikachu was called "Master Pikachu".
The crew was going to change depending on which region they were in.
Liko was 13, Roy was 12, and were going to have an older sister-younger brother dynamic.
Liko's pendant and Terapagos was originally going to be an anime original Pokemon. (geez, the anime writer's just can't get over this, can they?) The pendant was going to be a unique egg. It would hatch into a Pokemon with two stages: first stage is a small & cute Pokemon with a cloak-like part of its body it can't properly control. It would evolve into an archangel-looking Pokemon. (so... Patamon?).
Liko's pendant was called the "Jewel of Lucius".
Liko's goal for attending Pokemon School was to become a good enough Pokemon Trainer to enter a Pokemon League to meet a strong female trainer she admires; she didn't care about winning the competition.
Roy was going to know about Lucius from a legend his grandfather told him.
Lucius was considered the "Legendary Strongest Trainer" rather than an adventurer. He was going to have 18 Pokemon, one for each Type.
The original lineup for the Hero Pokemon were Rayquaza, Entei, Lapras, and Hatterene. The other three(?) were to be decided with one being a Gen 9 Pokemon. (Okay, so below I mention they eventually got the number down to 9, though in the show right now there's 6. And now here there's 7; are they counting the special Pokemon (which eventually was chosen to be Terapagos) as an honorary seventh member?)
Instead of the Hero Pokemon being in Ancient Poke Balls, it was going to be Hisiuan Poke Balls.
Friede had a brother that was part of the Explorers.
Fuecoco's singing was going to be a plot device to discover more secrets about Lucius and Laqua.
Quaxly originally was a wandering wild Pokemon from Paldea that would join the group and then be caught by Liko or Roy. Then seems like the plan changed to have Ludlow, who lived on the same island as Roy, be its temporary owner which then sneaks onto the Brave Olivine (and that would have been Ludlow's only role in the story).
Terapagos was going to be from Table Mountain which was going to be a broken off part of part of Laqua.
Ann's Starter was going to be a Cyndaquil instead of Oshawott.
Gibeon was planned to have romantic feelings for Lucius which would have formed a love triangle between him, Lucius, and Lucius' wife.
Development Info:
The Hero Pokemon were designed after Alola's Tapus and the Noble Pokemon from Legends: Arceus.
There was a plot dump episode called "Episode Zero" would have depicted the events of Laqua and Lucius' story after GameFreak gave their notes for the first 12 episodes. Scriptwriter Dai Sato scrapped the episode with no reason given.
Dai Soto and Saori Den weren't familiar with the story of SV so GF has to regularly consult them about the plot and characters. This resulted in several changes in Horizons. (Man, that is a problem, but I have a wild suggestion: PLAY THE F@#$ING GAMES! REALLY? They couldn't take time to play the games of the anime they were adopting?! And it's not like we're talking about a 100+ hour RPG here, it's Pokemon! You can complete the main story in just a few sittings. Or, if they really didn't want to play the games, how about this: Put someone else in charge who did/would play the games!)
Dai Sato purposely didn't give Liko and Sprigatito a "big first meeting" like Ash & Pikachu as they want their bond to gradually grow throughout the series.
GEN 10 SPOILERS: Laqua was originally an island paradise but changed as the background details conflicted with Gen 10's region. It was placed at an end of a peninsula and underwater (like the Japanese mythological Dragon Palace); GameFreak were concerned that was too similar to the Terrarium at Blueberry Academy, but they were able to fix that.
Still Possible/In-Planning:
Horizons takes place in the same universe as the original anime, the story beginning a few months after the end of the PWC.
Past characters (including villains) were planned on gradually appearing depending on region. Three confirmed Brock, Iris, & Raihan.
Miraidon & Koraidon and not currently planned to be depicted. (Because Arceus forbid the anime writers put focus on the main plot of the game they're adapting that everyone would be familiar with and want to see...)
There was also no initial plans to cover Kitakami or Ogerpon's plot.
2 year time skip planned with intention on portraying a slightly more mature tone. (And because they need to make Liko and Roy better trainers and easy to say it happened off screen)
Above I mentioned originally Lucius had 18 Pokemon. But this was eventually brought down to... 9? (Not sure if that's a mistake or they may have a surprise of 3 more Hero Pokemon... or plans were just changed again to give him the usual 6)
While Dai Sato scrapped the idea of "Friede betraying the group", there are still plans to implement a story where he becomes an enemy of Liko & Roy. You'd be able to tell by his hair being messier. (This is beginning to sound like a forced plot twist for a sake of having a plot twist...)
The staff are trying to create a "surprise Pokemon" to become popular with fans like Meowth and Wobbuffet. (Another thing they're trying to force. You know Meowth and Wobbuffet weren't planned to be popular, they were just written in as just characters and fans grew to like them)
Rayquaza and Zygarde were guardians of Laqua but it was left in ruins & sank to the bottom of the ocean after an incident involving Zygarde. Are meant to symbolize Yin & Yang (Shiny Rayquaza is black, Shiny Zygarde is white) as a callback to Reshiram & Zekrom.
As the story progresses Roy will gradually move out of the spotlight as more focus is placed on Liko and Lucius.
Depends, unless we learn more about early BW's plot development we can't say for sure. It could very well be that, at this point when the sprite was made, the story that Reshiram & Zekrom split from Kyurem was what they were going for and this was a way it was envisioned it would recombine with them. And how convenient it did so we didn't suspect a thing until B2W2 showed their true purpose.
I did not say that it was the original plan. I'm just stating that the design element seemed carried forward. I even say right there that the original plan likely had a different purpose

I mean reading this I would assume they didn't have the game to base on during the planning stages (which probably would have been mid 2022 at the latest?) and GameFreak was keeping it close to their chest. Even after SV comes out that's going to cause a cascade effect.
Honestly probably for the best, their plan as it is now had things go quite differently from the jump and wouldn't touch on the parts of SV until like a year after the fact, their original story is the focus, and GameFreak probably likes that other wise they/TPC would push for more changes from the start.
I have made no secret about the main reason I actually watch Horizons to begin with is the original story, so I'm actually very happy they are not trying to replicate SV's story as it would probably end up as an inferior version of it anyways, specially this late. The training arc *did* feel pretty random despite being given a decent reasoning in-universe, so it isn't surprising it was kind of forced in. But they can't really care that much if they have still allowed the story to move on- it was on that same story arc where Raiford said Laqua is far from Paldea, and if they really wanted to they could have added a Area Zero trip before going back at hunting Rayquaza, Entei and Kleavor.
That being said..."Terapagos was an anime-only Pokemon at first" what is exactly happening here? What were you thinking, GF? It's one thing to have Mythicals like Zarude and Zeraora be added to the games anyways as their story (before Pecharunt) doesn't affect the story of the games. But did you really decide to use it as the name of the entirely of SV's DLC and the front face of Indigo Disk? Without a timeline it's hard to say for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was so undercooked because it wasn't the original plan at first (and may explain its relationship with Paradox Pokemon). For something like this to happen thrice there must be some sort of conflict there. Who keeps saying "we are doing an anime-original species" and who keeps denying them to add those mons in the game? Like, just decide on it. Can the anime really have original mons or not? I don't really care one way or another (if they integrate it nicely into the games that is) but pick one. I know nowadays Pokemon doesn't have the games as the main focus (rightfully) but we end up with awkward things like Terapagos' normal form -why wasn't it just anime exclusive? I doubt children would actually be annoyed they can't catch it, specially as you can't even use it in the final games, not even in Let's Go mode.
Zygarde and Rayquaza being Reshiram and Zekrom is ironic and hilarious given the timing, but I know there will be 100 theories on reddit already about how it's proof a Unova remake was coming/is coming but was just delayed...
I would actually love the Friede twist, but I admit I have no idea of where it would come from. There has never been a clash of ideals or conflict between them, Friede has always been happy to follow Liko's goal. It would be even weirder if he went against all the rest of the crew. I really like Friede but so far he really doesn't have the deep as a character or the proper buildup to pull this off so I really hope it gets scrapped...
I wonder how Fuecoco's singing would have worked. I loved that he sings to begin with in Horizons since it ties him so nicely with his eventual evolution to Skeledirge.
All the changes to Lucius' Pokemon are good. The Ancient Pokeballs are a lot more memorable and mysterious than Hisuian ones, it would have been a cute game reference but that's it. 18 is also such an insane number, it's hard to imagine them given proper focus to such a big group. Don't get me wrong is not like the current ones are the pinacle of development, but they stand apart from each other enough and 6 makes perfect sense as a team.
Roy moving out of the spotlight is, sadly, not surprising. He already kind of did the moment his main objective of hunting down Rayquaza overlapped with Liko's because of it being also Lucius' main Pokemon. I guess they are still giving him good development, and same goes for Dot, but still.
I have no idea who that "surprise Pokemon" is supposed to be. Fuecoco/Crocalor is the only goofier one with comedic timing around it, but I suppose they will tone it down with Skeledirge sadly. None of the other in the entire ship really seem to fit this criteria if you ask me. It's hard to compete with Meowth with a non-talking Pokemon anyways, but really the only one that really stands out to me as memorable is Captain Pikachu himself because how different it is from Ash's Pikachu in a good way.
It will be fun to look back on these and see all the differences.
What else is there to hide? Unless it has a really different looking face in its "base" form, I think what the wings actually were was the only secret under the ice armor.
I was indeed referring to the face mainly, the position of the teeth would be extremely weird if its face was as thin as only the grey part. Not that it really makes sense anyways as the wings shown in the final cutscene are too big/wide to actually fit below the ice ones (and I don't get why one would be less covered than the other) but at the very least the face needs something else to "support" the teeth and yellow crystal.
That being said..."Terapagos was an anime-only Pokemon at first" what is exactly happening here? What were you thinking, GF? I think you're misreading what happened with Terapagos
It was likely not not: Terapagos was planned for the Anime first and GameFreak took that and made it integral to the game's mythos and DLC.
It was likely: Anime wanted an original Pokemon, but GameFreak pushed for Terapagos instead so that their original story could still call to the games.
It's not like they didn't have Terapagos set up: it's depicted in the journal, alluded to in the professor's notes, the tera cry is terapagos', and heck the region itself seems to be somewhat shaped around it. You can make out the head in the lower left corner, the center piece gem is where area zero is and the icy mountains combined with the broken up water sources resemble the tail in motion.
E: If I was going to do a conspiracy on this it'd be that the Normal form was made with the anime in mind. It's fairly extraneous to the game proper. The journal & region depict Stellar/Tera Terapagos, the "disk" is Tera Form, the Normal Form can't even be used in battle...it's on the crown but that's fairly extraneous to the point its not even stylized in Heath's drawing.
It's easy to envision a version of the end of Indigo Disk where the gem is pulled free and out pops Tera Terapagos rather than the Normal form (though it WOULD be less cute) and working about as normal.
On the Deoxys talk: I always wonder what it'd be like if it had been 110 across the board (550 divided among everything while keeping the Base 50 HP). Development timeline aside, the Mono-Psychic typing and low HP would make it decently bulky for an attacker without being too hard to break neutrally (as compared to something like Cresselia or an Arceus form with comparable defensive stats), while the Speed tier is useful for it as a utility mon without being quite AS strong as Attack form to wall break, or as fast as Speed form later (important to outrun some quick revenge killers or scarfers) and being less vulnerable to priority.
This might have been a bit much for Gen 3 and 4, but I could see a Deoxys-N like this fitting in alright with Gens after, or at the very least not being directly outclassed by itself even if it still isn't useful in places it can be used
I don't think there is any need to rework something like Deoxys to be "more impressive"
It's Deoxys. That's all it needs to be. You will be excited for Deoxys, because it's Deoxys and it's strong and it's neat.
I disagree as someone who is not that into Deoxys, and tbh part of that is I think 1. A lot of other similar ideas vastly outclass it in my opinion, and 2. I think if you didn't grow up within Gen 3 era it just doesn't really have that much for you
Until ORAS it doesn't really do anything in-game and it just is one of those Pokemon that is "mysterious" but with nothing backing it. Even in ORAS it really just appears and then you catch it and the story ends. Cool? The idea of a space DNA kinda thing is pretty cool but the design IMO is fairly bland, and I think later on mons like Ultra Necrozma would take the idea of "Other-worldly monster from space that can fuck things up", while also having this sort of biological vibe with it being a virus type thing specifically, and made it both story relevant and also way more interesting IMO
The Deoxys movie is one of like, 6 of the movies I haven't seen. Maybe if I watched that as a kid I'd love it, but idk I just haven't and don't feel a drive to do so- the Gen 3 movies in general I didn't really care for except Aura Guardian, especially when even as a kid I thought ADV was the least interesting season of the anime. Gen 4/5 were newer enough for me to care about while Gen 1/some of 2 felt old enough to be cool to me in that way.
I think Deoxys tends to rank very highly with people who grew up with Gen 3, but as a Gen 5 and up child I never found it that special, and it still tends to slip my mind outside of Smogon Talk. I have to 100% disagree that there is nothing needed to make Deoxys more impressive. IMO it absolutely needed something more. Some extra sauce.
