[OVERVIEW]

Ground
========

Gastrodon acts as a specially defensive wall on Ground teams thanks to its solid defensive typing, decent bulk, reliable recovery, and Storm Drain. Gastrodon's Water immunity prevents fast Water-types like Swift Swim Kingdra in rain and Keldeo from sweeping through Ground teams. Its Ice neutrality allows Gastrodon to switch into Kyurem-B and tank an Icicle Crash from Choice Band Weavile and Choice Band Mamoswine. Gastrodon's high HP and serviceable Special Defense let it tank hits from powerful special attackers like Landorus and Mega Diancie. However, as a result of its terrible Speed and poor Defense, Gastrodon is subject to being taken out by wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Keldeo, Mega Heracross, and Dragonite. Gastrodon competes with Seismitoad for a spot, since they can both provide a Water immunity. Seismitoad lacks reliable recovery, but it's faster and has a better offensive movepool to check Belly Drum Azumarill.

[SET COMMENTS]
Scald allows Gastrodon to fish for burns to inhibit physical attackers like Weavile and Mega Lopunny. Earth Power targets Steel- and Electric-types like Bisharp and Heliolisk and punishes Flying-types like Skarmory and Zapdos for attempting to recover HP with Roost. Gastrodon prefers Earth Power, since it can take advantage of Special Attack boosts from Storm Drain, but Earthquake can break Keldeo's Calm Mind-enhanced Substitutes and deal more damage to specially defensive walls like Tentacruel and Empoleon. Toxic cripples opposing walls that aren't bothered as much by Scald burns like Porygon2 and Zapdos.

Gastrodon's immunity to Water gives Ground teams a chance against fast Water-types such as Keldeo and Swift Swim Kingdra. Mega Garchomp's access to Stone Edge and Fire Blast allows it to deal with Mega Scizor, Flying-types like Mega Charizard Y and Gyarados, and Grass-types such as Ferrothorn and Breloom. Excadrill in sand can take out offensive threats like Choice Specs Latios, Deoxys-S, and Celebi. Hippowdon can switch into physical attackers like Terrakion and Excadrill, phaze setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor and Mega Gallade, and passively damage foes by setting sand and Stealth Rock. Mamoswine revenge kills weakened threats with Ice Shard and checks physical attackers like Mega Garchomp and Dragonite. Landorus uses its powerful special attacks and Knock Off to take care of stallbreakers like Mew and Sableye. Nidoking can check Grass-types such as Breloom and Ferrothorn with Flamethrower. It may also set Toxic Spikes, allowing Gastrodon to stall out some of its usual answers like Expert Belt Heliolisk.

Ground
--------
Protect over Earth Power lets Gastrodon scout Choice Specs Keldeo and punish High Jump Kick users like Mega Lopunny and Hawlucha. It can also stall out turns against statused foes and allow Gastrodon to safely heal with Leftovers. However, giving up Earth Power makes Gastrodon much more passive against Skarmory and Zapdos. Acid Armor boosts Gastrodon's poor Defense enough to take on physical attackers like Mega Sharpedo. However, even after attaining Defense boosts, many wallbreakers, phazers, and status users will still force out Gastrodon.

Ground
--------
**Chansey**: Chansey can easily switch into any of Gastrodon's moves, heal with Soft-Boiled, and wear it down with Toxic and Seismic Toss. Natural Cure ensures Gastrodon cannot permanently cripple Chansey with Toxic or Scald burns.

**Physical Attackers**: Powerful physical attackers like Choice Band Diggersby and Mega Heracross can overwhelm Gastrodon's mediocre Defense.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers such as Mega Gyarados, Volcarona, Clefable, and Mega Latias can take advantage of Gastrodon's poor offensive capabilities. However, Mega Gyarados fears Scald burns unless it has Substitute.

**Stallbreakers**: Stallbreakers like Mew, Crobat, and Sableye have access to Toxic and Taunt, allowing them to wear down Gastrodon.

**Status**: Toxic poison and burn harm Gastrodon's longevity, drastically limiting its ability to function as a special wall.

* Gastrodon fulfills a support role acts as a special wall on Ground teams thanks to its good defensive typing, decent bulk, reliable recovery in the form of Recover, and most importantly, its Water immunity derived from Storm Drain.
* Gastrodon's immunity to Water prevents fast Water-types like Choice Specs Keldeo and Suicune from sweeping through Ground teams with their STAB moves.
* Its Ice neutrality allows Gastrodon to switch into Ice Beam from Kyurem-B and tank an Icicle Crash from Choice Band Weavile and Choice Band Mamoswine and threaten to cripple them with Scald burns or Toxic poison. However, Gastrodon's Water typing makes it extremely weak to Pokemon with Grass-type attacks like Breloom and Mega Charizard Y.
* Gastrodon's high HP and average Special Defense lets it tank hits from powerful special attackers like Landorus and Mega Diancie.
* As a result of its terrible Speed and poor Defense, Gastrodon is subject to being taken out by strong physical attackers such as Mega Heracross and Dragonite.
* Gastrodon competes with Seismitoad for a spot on Ground teams since they are both immune to Water. Seismitoad is faster with a better offensive movepool, but it doesn't have access to reliable recovery.

[SET COMMENTS]
just change up the paragraph in the new move order. move order should be its stabs first (precedent after glancing at previous gastro analyses)
* Recover allows Gastrodon regain lost health.
* Scald is Gastrodon's most spammable STAB move that can spread burns, inhibiting physical attackers like Weavile and Mega Lopunny.
* Toxic cripples opposing walls that aren't bothered as much by Scald burns like Porygon2 and Zapdos.
* Earth Power targets Steel-types with high Defense like Bisharp. [mention how this synergizes well with storm drain as well.] It can also punish Flying-types like Skarmory and Zapdos for attempting to recover HP with Roost.
* Earthquake deals more damage to specially defensive walls like Empoleon and Tentacruel. Gastrodon prefers Earth Power since most of its teammates can easily take care of the aforementioned Pokemon.
* Leftovers grant Gastrodon passive recovery, extending its longevity. add a Storm drain line here
* Maximum investment in HP and Special Defense allows Gastrodon to switch into special attackers like Landorus and Choice Specs Kingdra.

* Gastrodon's immunity to Water gives Ground teams a chance against fast Water-types like Keldeo and Swift Swim Kingdra. It can switch into special attackers such as Landorus and Magnezone and spread status with Toxic and Scald.
* Mega Garchomp can use Stone Edge to deal with Flying-types like Mega Charizard Y and Gyarados and use Fire Blast to check certain Grass-types and setup sweepers like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor. [this is good but just needs to be rephrased at the end on Grass-types -> setup sweepers transition. Grass-types like x and y, and setup sweepers like x and y]
* Excadrill in sand can take out faster threats like Choice Specs Latios, Deoxys-S, and Celebi.
* Hippowdon can switch into physical attackers like Terrakion and Excadrill, use Whirlwind to phaze setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor and Mega Gallade, and passively damage foes by setting sand and Stealth Rock.
* Mamoswine revenge kills weakened threats with Ice Shard and can use its Ice-type STAB moves to check physical attackers like Mega Garchomp and Dragonite.
* Landorus makes use of its powerful special attacks and access to Knock Off to take care of stallbreakers like Mew and Sableye.
* Nidoking uses its Fire-type coverage to check Grass-types such as Breloom and Ferrothorn. It may also set Toxic Spikes to passively damage foes and allow Gastrodon to stall out some of its usual answers like Mega Lopunny.

Ground
--------
* Protect is a niche option over Earth Power that lets Gastrodon scout Pokemon like Choice Specs Latios and Choice Scarf Keldeo and punish High Jump Kick users such as Mega Lopunny and Hawlucha. It can safely stall out turns against burned or badly poisoned foes while allowing Gastrodon to recover any lost health with its Leftovers. Not running a secondary attacking move makes Gastrodon much more passive.
* Acid Armor boosts Gastrodon's poor Defense enough to take on physical attackers like Mega Sharpedo. It's usually not worth running over Earth Power as many attackers and status users will still force out Gastrodon even after it has attained several boosts.

Ground
--------
**Grass-types and Grass-type moves**: Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Breloom, Celebi, Cacturne, and Ferrothorn can tank attacks from Gastrodon and often OHKO it with their STAB moves. Pokemon with access to Grass-type coverage like Mega Charizard Y, Thundurus, and Galvantula can check Gastrodon.

**Chansey**: Chansey can very easily switch into any of Gastrodon's moves, recover with Soft-Boiled, and badly poison it with Toxic.

**Grass-type Coverage**: Pokemon with access to Grass-type coverage like Mega Charizard Y, Thundurus, and Galvantula can check Gastrodon.

**Physical Attackers**: Powerful physical attackers like Choice Band Diggersby and Mega Heracross can overwhelm Gastrodon with their STAB moves.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers such as Substitute Mega Gyarados, Volcarona, Clefable, and Mega Latias can take advantage of Gastrodon's poor offensive capabilities. mention here saying gyar can notably sub etc etc

**Stallbreakers**: Stallbreakers such as Mew, Crobat, Sableye have access to Toxic and taunt, allowing them to wear down Gastrodon without fearing Toxic poison.

**Status Conditions**: Toxic poisons and burns harm Gastrodon's longevity, limiting its ability to function as a specially defensive wall.

[overview]
- also ik this is the spd set, but I would mention threats like specs keldeo beat gastrodon easier bz of secret sword
- would mention that seismitoad plays the role of beating azu, something gastro ground teams will have trouble vs

[set comments]
- eq is also better vs cm keldeo
- even with toxic spikes, gastrodon still doesn't really stall out mega lopunny

[checks and counter]
- for chansey would also mention how natural cure allows it to not care abt being poisoned by toxic
