FINISHED!
[OVERVIEW]

Gastrodon has a solid niche as a special wall due to it possessing a great defensive typing in Water / Ground combined with a high HP stat and decent Special Defense. Gastrodon stomachs numerous hits comfortably from menacing special wallbreakers such as Gengar, Nidoking, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and its Ground typing blocks Mega Manectric’s and Rotom-H’s Volt Switch and shuts down vital momentum. Storm Drain also grants a Water immunity for Gastrodon that makes it a solid switch-in to Tentacruel, Mega Blastoise, and Volcanion. What really sells Gastrodon compared to its Water / Ground counterparts in Swampert and Seismitoad is its access to reliable recovery, which further bolsters its strong defensive typing and lets it continuously check the aforementioned threats. However, Gastrodon lacks the ubiquitous Stealth Rock, unlike Swampert and Seismitoad, in a metagame that's favorable towards role compression. Gastrodon's typing is only weak to Grass, but it openly invites Grass-types like Celebi and Amoonguss onto the field with no repercussions and gives them free turns to act. Gastrodon is also a passive Pokemon that leaves it set up on by common sweepers such as Mega Altaria and Togekiss.

Moves
========

Gastrodon uses Toxic to cripple defensive walls such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Chesnaught. It should also be noted that Toxic is Gastrodon's form of pressure against Dragon-types like Latias and Hydreigon that could care less about its attacks.

Set Details
========

Storm Drain only further improves Gastrodon's defensive typing by adding a second immunity. This lets Gastrodon easily switch into Water-type attacks from Tentacruel, Primarina, and Starmie while also adding a marginal boost to Gastrodon's Scald if it stays in.

Usage Tips
========

Due to Gastrodon's higher Special Defense, it can be played much more liberally against the likes of Gengar and Nidoking. On the contrary, Gastrodon's poor Defense prevents it from being too hasty in switching into physical attackers like Cobalion or physical Infernape that its counterparts can handle more easily. Gastrodon also grants teams a valuable Volt Switch immunity against various pivots like Rotom-H, Mega Manectric, and Zeraora; however, it should still be wary of Toxic from the first and Grass-type coverage from the latter two. Double switching is a plausible strategy due to Gastrodon inviting Grass-types on the field for free, so an aggressive switch can be beneficial based on the scenario. Gastrodon can use Scald to fish for possible burns against some Grass-type switch-ins like Chesnaught and Tsareena to sabotage their offensive presence.

Team Options
========

Gastrodon should mainly be used on balance builds that find its higher Special Defense compared to Swampert and Seismitoad valuable to safely switch into wallbreakers like Gengar, Nidoking, and Starmie. Gastrodon easily benefits from the most consistent switch-ins to Grass-types like Latias, Togekiss, and Rotom-H, and the latter two appreciate Gastrodon checking Mega Manectric and Rotom-H. Gastrodon's resistance to Fire-type moves makes it a strong partner for Mega Aggron, which can set up Stealth Rock while also walling most offensive Grass-types that threaten Gastrodon out. Other Stealth Rock users, mainly Cobalion, Bronzong, and Diancie, also pair well with Gastrodon, either boasting a Steel typing or being a secondary Nidoking check that relieves pressure off of Gastrodon. Tentacruel, Empoleon, and Rotom-C synergize well with Gastrodon, as they provide hazard removal; in return, Gastrodon can pivot into Nidoking and multiple Electric-types. In a similar vein, Poison-types like Amoonguss minimize the chip damage that can eat away at Gastrodon by removing Toxic Spikes. Choice Scarf Infernape pressures Grass-types and also appreciates Gastrodon's Water immunity. Choice Scarf Hydreigon values Gastrodon reliably checking Substitute variations of Gengar and absorbing Water-type attacks. Heal Bell users such as Mega Altaria and the aforementioned Togekiss and Diancie replenish Gastrodon by removing Toxic. Rotom-H can benefit from Gastrodon's Storm Drain so it can pressure bulky Water-types more reliably. Gastrodon also appreciates Rotom-H's defensive typing to check some physical wallbreakers like Scizor.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ice Beam gives Gastrodon the coverage it needs to harm Grass-types and Mega Altaria, but its poor damage output leaves it eclipsed by Earthquake, which is Gastrodon's main attack for removing various special attackers that it checks. Gastrodon could utilize an offensive Groundium Z set with Scald, Earth Power, Ice Beam, and Recover, but this often invalidates Gastrodon’s main niche as a special wall. Curse can give Gastrodon a stronger matchup against physical wallbreakers, but it's largely inconsistent against any other of Gastrodon's matchups.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Gastrodon is almost hopeless against Grass-types like Celebi, Amoonguss, Chesnaught, and Tsareena due to its quadruple weakness to Grass and gets obliterated by any of their primary attacks. It can cripple some of them with Toxic, but it will always be threatened out by them. Gastrodon should also watch out for Grass-type coverage from Mega Manectric, Zeraora, and Nihilego.

**Toxic-immune Setup Sweepers**: Mega Altaria and Togekiss exploit Gastrodon's passivity and use it as setup fodder due tier access to Refresh and Heal Bell, respectively.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Gastrodon can be overwhelmed by physical wallbreakers like Scizor, Terrakion, and Crawdaunt, albeit they must all watch out for a potential Scald burn.

**Toxic Users**: Toxic from various users like Hippowdon, Gligar, and Slowbro severely cripples Gastrodon's longevity and ability to check its victims.

make the spread 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD because 248 HP doesn't do anything significant. Mention the spread in Set Details and explain why it runs specially defensive investment (hint: nidok and co.).

Storm Drain doesn't really help with Suicune because it just PP stalls gastrodon to death while setting up to +6 anyway. Mention mons like Tenta, Primarina, and Starmie instead.

Mention that you should be careful when sending Gastro in vs. fatter waters (and give examples) as well as Rotom-H because gastro really does not like toxic in any way shape or form.

Give examples of physical wallbreakers that Gastrodon would Scald on, and be sure to make it clear that Gastrodon is doing this as the wallbreakers switch in and not while they're already in and prepping to slap gastro in the face. Right now it reads like "if you're up against a wallbreaker, use Scald."

Mega Aggron being the sole example of a good Grass check in team options is pretty poor, especially considering most of them can break past a slightly weakened aggron that tries to switch in (see: z-celebi, hjk tsareena, mowtom, focus mscept). It's fine to keep it there, but do add another sentence detailing that Pokemon like Moltres, Togekiss, and Latias make good partners bc they can pressure Gastrodon's common checks. Molt and Togekiss also benefit from Gastrodon's ability to reliably check Mega Manectric, Rotom-H, and Diancie.

Add Heal Bell users like Diancie and Mega Altaria to team options to help alleviate Gastrodon's weakness to Toxic. Diancie also sets Stealth Rock.

offensive sets prefer groundium z as opposed to life orb

yawn doesn't exist at all delete that

add Toxic users to checks and counters.

Gastrodon

QC: A Cake Wearing A Hat / * / *

GP: * / *
[OVERVIEW]

  • Gastrodon establishes itself as a niche tank in the tier with its strong defensive typing of Water/Ground which only makes Gastrodon weak to Grass-types.
  • Its high Health and decent Special Defense allows Gastrodon to take hits from Special wallbreakers like Gengar, Nidoking, and Hydreigon pretty comfortably. (Should definitely mention mmane specifically since it being an elec immunity that reliably sits on mane is dope).
  • What really sets Gastrodon apart from its competition however, is its access to reliable recovery which allows it to continuously check the aforementioned threats. (Mention the competition you're talm bout, I'd assume seis/pert or something? Those are really just competition because of typing tho, Gastro i think is moreso used to blanket check special attackers whilst providing this specific defensive typing + ability. Regardless i'd remove the word "competition" and replace it with like "its other water/ground counterparts").
  • Gastrodon’s Water-immunity also makes it a fine switch-in to opposing Water-types like Tentacruel, Empoleon, and Volcanion. (Empoleon cripples with Toxic + Knock Off, just remove it for Mega Blastoise perhaps? or just remove it completely).
  • However, Gastrodon is still quite passive and it ends up being set-up fodder against common sweepers like Mega Altaria and Latias. (It runs Toxic so I don't think it's too big of setup fodder for lati unless it's like refresh lati or some shit lmao. Can replace it with Togekiss).
  • Additionally, Gastrodon openly invites Grass-types like Celebi and Amoonguss onto the field which allows them to gain a free turn.
  • Gastrodon mainly faces competition against Swampert and Seismitoad due to its lack of the ubiqutous Stealth Rock and in a metagame where compression is valuable on all archetypes, Gastrodon falls flat in that aspect. (You could probably combine this point with the point above where I was mentioning the whole competition thing).
  • (I don't really know where to fit this but I think one neat thing with the water absorb mons like gastro and seis is that they perform the job of things like Latias and Hydreigon that usually switch into powerful water attacks from the likes of volc/starmie/etc. Running gastro means that you don't need a dragon for it's defensive typing as much on some builds which is really neat, more of an optional change tho if you can fit it anywhere fluidly).

Moves
========

  • Earthquake is used to deal more damage to Tentacruel and to guarantee the OHKO on Nihilego and Gengar if they are at full health. (Maybe I'm drunk but I'm p sure this is common sense type shit, we know EQ hits Poison types so just delete this imo).
  • Toxic is Gastrodon’s only countermeasure to crippling defensive walls such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Chesnaught. (This can be expanded upon, Toxic, in a lot of cases, is it's only reliable way of pressuring things that don't take much from it's STAB combo in general. For example Latias and Hydreigon).
Set Details
========

  • Storm Drain adds a second immunity onto Gastrodon and allows it to comfortably take Tentacruel, Primarina, and Starmie’s Water attacks while also boosting Gastrodon’s own Scalds if it stays on the field.
Usage Tips
========

  • Gastrodon can be played more liberally than its competition against Special Attackers like Gengar and Nidoking due to its higher Special Defense.
  • Gastrodon also plays as a Volt Switch immunity against pivots like Rotom-H, Mega Manectric, and Zeraora although you should be wary against Grass-type coverage from the latter two. (and Toxic from the former).
  • Gastrodon often invites in Grass-types due to its typing and limited counterplay, so an aggressive double into a Pokemon that checks them can be used to prevent your opponent from gaining free turns.
  • Gastrodon should use Scald to fish for burns against Physical wallbreakers such as Scizor, Mega Altaria, and Crawdaunt as they are coming onto the field to attack Gastrodon. (Remove malt, if it's facade then you'd rather Toxic it and if it's refresh it doesn't matter anyways. But this point in general is kinda weird, I think it's too specific because how often is a Scizor harding into a Gastro? prolly not very often. Maybe rewrite the point so that you mention fishing for burns and how it can be beneficial in some instances when you may need to, but otherwise just delete this point as counting on people to risk burns is lame).
  • (Also mention the vise versa of the first point, while the typing might be nice... it's not gonna be tanking physical hits like it's water/ground counterparts too well so don't be too hasty with it in those situations).
Team Options
========

  • Gastrodon fits best on Balance builds that need its higher Special Defense in order to have a safer switchin to Balance breakers like Nidoking and Gengar. (also mention starmie here since i think it should be emphasized more).
  • Latias, Togekiss, and Moltres are consistent switch-ins to the various Grass-types of the tier. The latter two also appreciate Gastrodon for checking Electric-types like Rotom-H and Mega Manectric.
  • Mega Aggron sets up Stealth Rock for Gastrodon while also walls most offensive Grass-types that threaten Gastrodon out. (Mega Aggron is surely a good partner but this is like too vague. Mention that Gastro resists fire for it while bothering some of the things that otherwise force magg out like mane, heatman, and Starmie).
  • Gastrodon’s Water immunity can be helpful to Rotom-H as it gives it an easier time pivoting around Bulkier Water-types for Gastrodon to take advantage of. (This point kinda makes sense but not really, you say it like bulky water types are gonna be going hard into Rotom-H and let it vswitch on them, which they're not. This point would make sense if gastro took advantage of dragons somehow. I'd just say that it helps Rotom-H pressure waters and provides an immunity for water moves that threaten it. While Rotom-H also can switch into a few threatening physical attackers (really only Scizor)).
  • Choice Scarf users like Krookodile and Hydreigon have a tough time handling Gengar due to its Substitute mitigating possible counterplay, so Gastrodon does a fine job assisting them as a consistent switch-in into it while the two can revenge kill the likes of Latias and Celebi. (I'm very positive krook and gastro are like literally never gonna find themselves on the same team, if you have krook you're prolly not gonna bother slapping a fuckin Gastrodon just aid it in helping fuckin GENGAR matchup. Maybe replace it with Infernape b/c it pressures grass types and appreciates gastro's water immunity. Also rewrite the drei part b/c geng m/u isn't really cutting it).
  • Scizor can also pivot into Gastrodon to let it beat out Water-types that could otherwise stop Scizor from sweeping like Tentacruel and Volcanion.
  • Heal Bell users like Mega Altaria and Diancie can remove Toxic off of Gastrodon to keep it healthy. The latter can also set up Stealth Rock. (Throw Togekiss here too b/c it's like prolly the most splashable out of all of them, just be like "and the aforementioned Togekiss").
  • (Have a section dedicated to rockers that can be good with it such as Cobalion, maybe Bronzong, and the aforementioned Diancie)
  • (Have another section dedicated for hazard removal options as well as grounded poison types to minimize the chip it takes as it comes in to stomach hits, give examples like Rotom-Mow, Amoonguss, Empoleon, Moltres, etc).
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Ice Beam gives Gastrodon the coverage it needs to harm Grass-types but its poor damage output leaves it eclipsed by Earthquake and it being Gastrodon’s main attack to removing various Special Attackers that it checks. (also mention malt).
  • Gastrodon could utilize an offensive set with Groundium, Scald, Earth Power, and Ice Beam with Recover but this often invalidates Gastrodon’s main niche as a Special tank.
  • Curse can give Gastrodon a stronger matchup against Physical Wallbreakers, but it’s largely inconsistent against any other of Gastrodon’s matchups.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Gastrodon is almost hopeless against Grass-types like Celebi, Amoonguss, Chesnaught, and Tsareena due to its quad weakness that gets it obliterated by any of their primary attacks. (mention that it can cripple a few of them w/ toxic as they come in but is always gonna be forced out by them).

**Dragon-types**: While many should be careful with Toxic, Dragon-types such as Mega Alataria, Latias, and Mega Sceptile are pretty consistent switch-ins to Gastrodon due to their resistances to its attacks and find opportunities to set up right in front of it. (Lati is scared of toxic and doesn't immediately force it out so it's weird here, honestly dragons in general are weird here. Maybe replace it for like "setup mons that dw bout toxic or it's stabs" LOL, obviously dont call it that idk what i'd name it but for example: Togekiss can fall into this category as well as malt).

**Grass Coverage**: Gastrodon can get beaten out by Grass coverage that Mega Manectric, Zeraora, and Nihilego carry if it risks a switch-in and is punished for it. (This isn't necessary, just include grass coverage somewhere in the grass types section).

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Gastrodon can be overwhelmed by Physical Wallbreakers like Scizor, Terrakion, and Crawdaunt albeit they must all watch out for a potential Scald burn.

**Toxic Users**: Toxic from various users like Hippowdon, Gligar and Slowbro severely crippled Gastrodon’s longevity and ability to check its victims.

Moves
========

Gastrodon utilizes the pervasive Toxic (you don't really need to use this type of wording here, just make it simple with "Gastrodon uses Toxic to cripple..." or something similar) to cripple defensive walls such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Chesnaught. It should also be noted that Toxic is Gastrodon's form of pressure against Dragon-types like Latias and Hydreigon that could care less about its attacks.

Storm Drain only further improves Gastrodon's defensive typing by adding a second immunity. This lets Gastrodon easily switch in from Water-type attacks being initiated by Tentacruel, Primarina, and Starmie while also adding a marginal boost to Gastrodon's Scald if it stays in.

Usage Tips

Due to Gastrodon's higher Special Defense as opposed to its counterparts, it can be played much more liberally against the likes of Gengar and Nidoking. (it's weird to mention other mons in usage tips, so I'd just say "Due to Gastro's high Special defense, it can be played liberally against..." or something like that) On the contrary, Gastrodon's poor Defense prevents it from being too hasty in switching into defensive answers that its counterparts can handle more easily. Hazard removal such as Tentacruel, Empoleon, and Rotom-C synergize well with Gastrodon as they have access to a Pokemon that can pivot into Nidoking and multiple Electric-types while Poison-types like Amoonguss minimize the chip damage that can eat away at Gastrodon. Scarf Infernape pressures Grass-types and also appreciates Gastrodon's Water immunity while Scarf Hydreigon has a reliable check to Sub variations of Gengar and also isn't the main absorber of Water-type attacks. Heal Bell users such as Mega Altaria and the aforementioned Togekiss and Diancie replenish Gastrodon by removing Toxic. Rotom-H can benefit from Gastrodon's Storm Drain so it can pressure bulky Water-types more reliably. (many of these changes in this section were fixing the apostrophes of some of the words)
Ice Beam gives Gastrodon the coverage it needs to harm Grass-types and Mega Altaria,(AC) but its poor damage output leaves it eclipsed by Earthquake,(AC) which is Gastrodon's and it being Gastrodon’s main attack to for removing various special attackers that it checks (I assume this is what you meant). Gastrodon could utilize an offensive Groundium Z set with Groundium,(RC) Scald, Earth Power, and Ice Beam,(AC) and with Recover but this often invalidates Gastrodon’s Gastrodon's main niche as a special tank wall (a "tank" in Pokemon is usually a Pokemon that has good bulk to switch in but can also hit back hard, similar to a bruiser/fighter in MOBAs. Gastrodon is a "wall", which is synonymous with a "tank" in MOBAs and other games like that, so I guess it's confusing). Curse can give Gastrodon a stronger matchup against physical wallbreakers, but it’s it's largely inconsistent against any other of Gastrodon’s Gastrodon's matchups.

Checks and Counters

**Grass-types**: Gastrodon is almost hopeless against Grass-types like Celebi, Amoonguss, Chesnaught, and Tsareena due to its quadruple weakness that to Grass and gets it obliterated by any of their primary attacks. **Toxic-immune Set Up Setup Sweepers**: Mega Altaria and Togekiss exploit Gastrodon's passivity and use it as set up setup fodder. (You should really explain what makes them immune to Toxic because it isn't their typing and they are still affected by it. This is confusing especially for new readers or people who don't play UU)

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Gastrodon can be overwhelmed by physical wallbreakers like Scizor, Terrakion, and Crawdaunt,(AC) albeit they must all watch out for a potential Scald burn.

**Toxic Users**: Toxic from various users like Hippowdon, Gligar,(AC) and Slowbro severely crippled cripples Gastrodon's longevity and ability to check its victims.

[OVERVIEW]

Gastrodon has a solid niche as a special wall due to it possessing a great defensive typing in Water / Ground combined with a high Health HP stat and decent Special Defense. Gastrodon stomachs numerous hits comfortably from menacing special wallbreakers such as Gengar, Nidoking, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and its part-Ground typing blocks Mega Manectric's and Rotom-H’s Volt Switch and shuts down vital momentum. Storm Drain also slaps on grants a Water immunity for Gastrodon that makes it a solid switch-in to Tentacruel, Mega Blastoise, and Volcanion. Gastrodon's typing is only weak to Grass, but Gastrodon it openly invites Grass-types like Celebi and Amoonguss onto the field with no repercussions and gives them free turns to act. Gastrodon is also a passive Pokemon that leaves it set up on by common sweepers such as Mega Altaria and Togekiss.

Moves
========

Gastrodon uses Toxic to cripple defensive walls such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Chesnaught. It should also be noted that Toxic is Gastrodon's form of pressure against Dragon-types like Latias and Hydreigon that could care less about its attacks.

Set Details
========

Storm Drain only further improves Gastrodon's defensive typing by adding a second immunity. This lets Gastrodon easily switch into Water-type attacks from Tentacruel, Primarina, and Starmie while also adding a marginal boost to Gastrodon's Scald if it stays in.

Usage Tips
========

Due to Gastrodon's higher Special Defense, it can be played much more liberally against the likes of Gengar and Nidoking. On the contrary, Gastrodon's poor Defense prevents it from being too hasty in switching into physical attackers like Cobalion or Physical physical Infernape that its counterparts can handle more easily.

========

Gastrodon should mainly be used on balance builds that find its higher Special Defense compared to Swampert and Seismitoad valuable to safely switch into wallbreakers like Gengar, Nidoking, and Starmie. Gastrodon easily benefits from the most consistent switch-ins to Grass-types like Latias, Togekiss, and Rotom-H, while and the latter two appreciate Gastrodon to checking Mega Manectric and Rotom-H. Gastrodon's resistance to Fire-type moves makes it a strong partner to for Mega Aggron, which can lay down set up Stealth Rock while also walling most offensive Grass-types that threaten Gastrodon out. Other Stealth Rock users, mainly Cobalion, Bronzong, and Diancie, also pair up well with Gastrodon, either boasting a Steel typing or being a secondary Nidoking check that relieves pressure off of Gastrodon.

Other Options
=============

Ice Beam gives Gastrodon the coverage it needs to harm Grass-types and Mega Altaria, but its poor damage output leaves it eclipsed by Earthquake, which is Gastrodon's main attack for removing various special attackers that it checks. Gastrodon could utilize an offensive Groundium Z set with Scald, Earth Power, Ice Beam, and Recover, (AC) but this often invalidates Gastrodon’s main niche as a special wall. Curse can give Gastrodon a stronger matchup against physical wallbreakers, but it's largely inconsistent against any other of Gastrodon's matchups.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Toxic-immune Setup Sweepers**: Mega Altaria and Togekiss exploit Gastrodon's passivity and use it as setup fodder due tier access to Refresh and Heal Bell, (AC) respectively.
