Gastrodon serves as a great check to threats such as Escavalier, Darmanitan, Barbaracle, and Rotom-W thanks to its respectable bulk and solid defensive typing. Earth Power hits Cobalion harder than Earthquake and 2HKOes Doublade; however, Earthquake can be used to 2HKO non-Black Sludge Roserade. Toxic provides Gastrodon with the means to punish foes like Milotic and Noivern that pivot into it, and it is Gastrodon's best way to punish Rotom-W. Ice Beam is an option over Earth Power that gives Gastrodon the ability to punish Noivern and, more importantly, hit Grass-types like Roserade and Celebi on the switch; however, it struggles to deal with foes like Cobalion without a Scald burn. Clear Smog is an option over Toxic to prevent setup attempts from Pokemon like Necrozma and Haxorus that can take advantage of Gastrodon's passive nature, but this leaves it unable to touch the likes of Rotom-W and Noivern. Storm Drain allows Gastrodon to wall foes like Inteleon and Nasty Plot Rotom-W. Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is mandatory if Gastrodon wants to handle the likes of Darmanitan, Escavalier, and Swords Dance Incineroar well.

Escavalier and Bronzong are able to check Grass-types like Roserade and Celebi that Gastrodon invites in and has no reliable way to effectively punish. In return, Gastrodon can pivot into powerful wallbreakers like Inteleon, Incineroar, and Darmanitan that can easily break through them. Sylveon is able to provide Gastrodon with Wish support, allowing Gastrodon to switch in against foes that Sylveon invites in like Escavalier and Darmanitan more easily; provide Heal Bell support to Gastrodon, preventing it from being worn down by Toxic from foes like Incineroar; and switch into problematic threats like Taunt Noivern and Haxorus that Gastrodon is unable to reliably punish. Gigalith is able to check the likes of Chandelure, Taunt Noivern, Heliolisk, and Toxtricity for Gastrodon as well as provide Stealth Rock support to wear these foes down for it. In return, Gastrodon can take on the likes of Flygon, Inteleon, and Rhyperior that threaten Gigalith. Incineroar is able to pressure Grass-types like Celebi for Gastrodon as well as threaten Reuniclus, a threat that would otherwise use Gastrodon as setup fodder due to Gastrodon's inability to punish it. Roserade and Celebi are able to take on Electric-types like Heliolisk and Rotom-C, while Roserade can also pressure Fairy-types like Sylveon and Gardevoir, as well as absorb Toxic Spikes for Gastrodon. In addition, both appreciate Gastrodon's ability to wear down Steel-types and remove the likes of Incineroar for them.

Gatsrodon Gastrodon, more of a GP Comment but I'm nitpicky so /shrug serves a great check to threats such as Doublade, Darmanitan, Barbaracle, and Rotom-W thanks to its respectable bulk and solid defensive typing. Earth Power is the preferred STAB move of choice for its ability to hit Cobalion harder and 2HKO Doublade. Earthquake should be mentioned, it actually somewhat threatens Roserade, unlike Earth Power which just lets it come in with little punishment. You still take on Doublade comfortably 1v1, Cobalion is fair but +2 Close Combat does a ton either way and it shouldn't be a situation you find yourself in unless necessary. Toxic provides Gastrodon with means to punish foes like Milotic and Noivern that pivot into it, and it is Gastrodon's best way to punish Rotom-W. Ice Beam is an alternative option, which gives Gastrodon the ability to punish Noivern and more importantly hit Grass-types like Roserade and Celebi on the switch. This point is fine but I wouldn't use Ice Beam over Toxic, things like non-Heal Bell Sylveon and Toxic Rotom-W pivoting into you for free is really bad. I'd use it over Earthquake if anything, Scald still threatens out Steel-types well enough. Clear Smog is an option to prevent setup attempts from Pokemon like Necrozma and Haxorus that can take advantage of Gastrodon's passive nature; however, this leaves it unable to touch the likes of Rotom-W and Noivern. Storm Drain allows Gastrodon to check to foes like Inteleon, and the potential Special Attack boost can circumvent its passivity. I'd just remove the latter part of this and add a mention on how it counters non-Toxic Rotom-W. Even with the Special Attack boost its still a pretty passive mon, the situation where Storm Drain helps Gastrodon in circumventing its passivity is generally rather rare. Sticky Hold is an option allowing Gastrodon to absorb Knock Off from foes like Incineroar; however, it is generally inferior to the defensive utility Storm Drain provides. Another bonus of Sticky Hold is that you can screw over Trick from Gardevoir / Chandelure, which is often very annoying on the types of teams Gastrodon fits well on. Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is mandatory if Gastrodon wants to handle the likes of Darmanitan and Incineroar well.

You don't really pivot into Incineroar well because a lot of them are Toxic or Swords Dance, and you certainly don't want to be taking +2 Knock Offs. Darmanitan can also overwhelm you if its Trick, or a U-Turn into Flare Blitzes. Sylveon is able to provide Gastrodon with Wish support allowing Gastrodon to switch in against foes like Escavalier and Darmanitan easier, which Sylveon invites in, provide Heal Bell support to Gastrodon preventing it from being worn down by Toxic, and switch into problematic threats like Noivern, Haxorus, and Machamp that Gatsrodon Gastrodon is unable to reliably punish. I mean I'd say Toxic punishes Haxorus pretty well, it doesn't really appreciate any chip taken in a lot of matchups and even if it has a Sylveon partner its not given a lot of opportunities to Wish pass to it due to its lack of defensive utility. Gigalith is able to reliably check the likes of Noivern and Chandelure for Gastrodon as well as ease the matchup against Electric-types like Heliolisk and Toxtricity, which it struggles to reliably take on. In return, Gastrodon can take on the likes of Flygon, Inteleon, and Rhyperior that threaten Gigalith. Arcanine is able to punish Grass-types for Gastrodon and ease its matchup against strong physical attackers like Machamp, Dragon Dance Necrozma, and Swords Dance Cobalion. Arcanine doesn't really take on the former two well, especially not Machamp which Knocks your Boots that you need. In return, Gatsrodon Gastrodon handles foes like Rotom-W, Gigalith, and Inteleon that force it out. Likewise, Incineroar is also able to threaten Grass-types like Celebi for Gastrodon but it is able to remove the likes of Reuniclus, a threat that would otherwise use Gastrodon as set up fodder due to Gastrodons inability to punish it. Roserade and Celebi are able to take on Electric-types like Heliolisk and Rotom-C, while Roserade can also pressure Fairy-types like Sylveon and Gardevoir as well as absorb Toxic Spikes for Gastrodon. Both appreciate Gastrodon's ability to wear down Steel-types and remove the likes of Incineroar for them.

There are tons of mentions on Noivern being an annoying mon for Gastrodon to deal with, when it's really not that big of a deal unless its Toxic or Taunt. Even with Sylveon support Noivern doesn't appreciate being Toxic'ed and it doesn't do much back to Gastrodon. I'd also mention that Specs Sylveon can overwhelm Gastrodon in the section about Steel-types. Gastrodon's also one of our best checks to Escavalier (Megahorn doesn't 2HKO so long as you're at full and you'll win the 1v1 excluding the rare Swords Dance) which could also use a mention.

Gatsrodon Gastrodon, more of a GP Comment but I'm nitpicky so /shrug serves a great check to threats such as Doublade, as Juun mentioned in her blurb at end, I'd rather see a mention of Escavalier here than Doublade personally, considering that Gastro is one of the most reliable stops to Escav even after being Knocked while Doub is a lot easier to check generally Darmanitan, Barbaracle, and Rotom-W thanks to its respectable bulk and solid defensive typing. Yea this definitely needs a mention, it also allows you to OHKO Heliolisk which you can soft check Toxic provides Gastrodon with means to punish foes like Milotic and Noivern that pivot into it, and it is Gastrodon's best way to punish Rotom-W. Agree on this, I've ran it over Scald too sometimes team dependent, I'd just phrase it in some way to clarify that which move you drop for it is more optional Clear Smog is an option to prevent setup attempts from Pokemon like Necrozma and Haxorus Haxorus can just 2HKO you with LO Dclaw (or be CB lol), so isn't a great example that can take advantage of Gastrodon's passive nature; however, this leaves it unable to touch the likes of Rotom-W and Noivern. Storm Drain allows Gastrodon to check to foes like Inteleon, and the potential Special Attack boost can circumvent its passivity. I'd just remove the latter part of this and add a mention on how it counters non-Toxic Rotom-W. Even with the Special Attack boost its still a pretty passive mon, the situation where Storm Drain helps Gastrodon in circumventing its passivity is generally rather rare. its mainly when you are running Ice Beam that it actually becomes relevant honestly, Sticky Hold is an option allowing Gastrodon to absorb Knock Off from foes like Incineroar; and Escavalier however, it is generally inferior to the defensive utility Storm Drain provides. You should probably clarify explicitly that it prevents you checking Barbaracle and inteleon properly. Another bonus of Sticky Hold is that you can screw over Trick from Gardevoir / Chandelure, which is often very annoying on the types of teams Gastrodon fits well on. yea though obviously phys def sets don't really pivot into either well, can talk about Trick Scarf Washtom or Trick Darm maybe instead though Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is mandatory if Gastrodon wants to handle the likes of Darmanitan, Escav, and Incineroar well. just specify Swords Dance Incineroar imo, normal Incin doesn't really threaten you hugely outside of Toxic.

You don't really pivot into Incineroar well because a lot of them are Toxic or Swords Dance, and you certainly don't want to be taking +2 Knock Offs. Darmanitan can also overwhelm you if its Trick, or a U-Turn into Flare Blitzes. These mentions are fine personally, you don't need to counter either of them per se but Escav appreciates them being able to at least try and switch into Fire attacks. Sylveon is able to provide Gastrodon with Wish support allowing Gastrodon to switch in against foes like Escavalier and Darmanitan easier, which Sylveon invites in, provide Heal Bell support to Gastrodon preventing it from being worn down by Toxic from the likes of Incineroar, and switch into problematic threats like Taunt Noivern, Haxorus, and Machamp that Gatsrodon Gastrodon is unable to reliably punish. I mean I'd say Toxic punishes Haxorus pretty well, it doesn't really appreciate any chip taken in a lot of matchups and even if it has a Sylveon partner its not given a lot of opportunities to Wish pass to it due to its lack of defensive utility. It does but Gastrodon still definitely appreciates a switch in to CB/DD Hax in the short term. Gigalith is able to reliably check the likes of Taunt Noivern and Chandelure give a mention to Specs Sylv too for Gastrodon as well as ease the matchup against Electric-types like Heliolisk and Toxtricity, which it struggles to reliably take on. Arcanine doesn't really take on the former two well, especially not Machamp which Knocks your Boots that you need. not only that but Arcanine struggles with Celebi a lot and can't rly pivot into Rose. Imo you could focus on its ability to help check stuff like Escav/Copperajah/Coba/Darm, while allowing it to potentially run spdef spreads because of this. Incineroar struggles to reliably deal with bulky CM Reuniclus though, and isn't an amazing check to Celebi.

Going over Juuno 's AM check, comments in green. Nice job on this AM check, you picked up a lot of the important stuff. Feel free to talk to me on Disc more about this check :)

Sticky Hold is an option allowing Gastrodon to absorb Knock Off from foes like Incineroar and Escavalier or Trick from Choice locked Darmanitan; however, it is generally inferior to the defensive utility Storm Drain provides with checking powerful Water-types. Way too niche for a mention with Rotom-W in the tier.

Sylveon isn't a good Machamp check that Gastrodon is unable to reliably punish. Gigalith is able to reliably check the likes of Taunt Noivern and Chandelure for Gastrodon as well as ease the matchup against Electric-types like Heliolisk and Toxtricity, which it struggles to reliably take on. I'd also bring up its Stealth Rock access since Gastro's lack of it can be awkward for a Ground-type.
