Ability: Storm Drain / Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature

- Recover
- Toxic / Clear Smog

Here comes the don. Gastrodon's excellent defensive typing, reliable recovery, and solid special bulk give it a unique place on defensive teams as one of the only reliable ways to counter Heatran, as well as dealing with Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zeraora. It can also serve well as a blanket special wall, capable of sponging hits from the likes of Dragapult, Nidoking, and Arctozolt. Heavy-Duty Boots is most often used on entry hazard-stacking teams to ensure Gastrodon's longevity and stop it from being chipped down by offensive pivots in Tapu Koko and Dragapult, but Leftovers can alternatively be used on other teams with hazard control. Storm Drain gives it an immunity to Water, drastically improving its matchup against rain teams, Volcanion, and Urshifu-R. Alternatively, Sticky Hold lets Gastrodon act as a Knock Off absorber against Pokemon such as Zeraora, Toxapex, and Clefable. While Toxic is useful to hit Volcarona, Hydreigon, Tornadus-T, and other bulky setup sweepers, Clear Smog can be used to check status-blocking set-up Tapu Fini, Clefable, and Safeguard Volcarona more easily. Gastrodon shines best on balance or stall teams alongside teammates that can handle physical attackers, like Buzzwole and Corviknight.

Here comes the don. Gastrodon's excellent defensive typing, access to reliable recovery, and solid special bulk let it act as an amazing special wall in OU. It takes a unique place on defensive teams as one of the only reliable ways to counter Heatran and easily deal while also dealing with Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zeraora. It can also serve well as a blanket special wall, capable of sponging hits from the likes of Dragapult, Nidoking, and Arctozolt. Heavy-Duty Boots are most often used on hazard stacking teams to ensure Gastrodon's longevity and stop it from being chipped down by offensive pivots in Tapu Koko and Dragapult, but Leftovers can alternatively be used on other teams with entry hazard control. Storm Drain gives it an immunity to Water-type moves, drastically improving its matchup against rain teams, Volcanion, and Urshifu-R. Sticky Hold, on the other hand, lets it keep its item for the duration of a game, and comfortably switch into Pokemon using Knock Off to force progress, like (a better way of saying this would be something like: Alternatively, Sticky Hold lets Gastrodon act as a Knock Off absorber against Pokemon such as Zeraora, Toxapex, and Clefable. While Toxic is useful to hit Volcarona, Hydreigon, Tornadus-T, and other bulky setup sweepers, Clear Smog can be used to check the status-blocking Calm Mind Tapu Fini and Clefable more easily (add volc here too). Gastrodon shines best on balance or stall teams alongside teammates that can handle physical attackers, like Buzzwole and Corviknight.

(haven't done one of these in like 5 years but if you have room you could mention status absorbers since it fits on those clefpexcorv fat teams. if not, nbd)

Here comes the don. Gastrodon's excellent defensive typing, access to reliable recovery, and solid special bulk give it a unique place on defensive teams as one of the only reliable ways to counter Heatran, (AC) while also as well as (this change is assuming "reliably countering tran" is the "unique" thing, not "reliably countering tran + dealing with electric-types" being the "unique" part. if i'm wrong, ignore this change.0 dealing with Electric-types like Tapu Koko and Zeraora. It can also serve well as a blanket special wall, capable of sponging hits from the likes of Dragapult, Nidoking, and Arctozolt.
