Pet Mod [Gen 1] Back to the Past - Slate 5: Dual

Status
Not open for further replies.
Move 1: Gigaton Hammer
Type: Rock
BP: 150
Acc: 100
PP: 8
Effect: Hyper Beam clone

Pokemon 1: Tinkaton
Stats: 85/75/77/105/94
Type: Psychic/Rock
Relevant moves: Psychic, Rock Slide, Body Slam, Thunder Wave, Swords Dance, Reflect, Hyper Beam, Gigaton Hammer
Usually useless moves: Psybeam, Confusion, Psywave, Rock Throw, Slam, Take Down, Toxic, Double Edge, Substitute, Bide, Tackle, Leer
Overview: Really cool typing with a STAB Hyper Beam that has good coverage and it can boost with SD too. Stacking para drops with its own SD is neat but also helps it carve a niche as a Normal-resist para mon.

Move 2: Freeze-Dry
Type: Ice
BP: 70
Acc: 100
PP: 16
Effect: Super effective on Water-types. (no freeze chance)
Distribution: Jynx, Articuno

Pokemon 2: Cryogonal
Stats: 80/50/50/135/95
Type: Ice
Relevant moves: Bind, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Freeze-Dry, Recover, Acid Armor, Slash, Explosion, Body Slam, Hyper Beam, Reflect,
Usually useless moves: Solarbeam, Confuse Ray, Haze, Mist, Substitute, Rest, Bubblebeam
Overview: Tools are really cool in combination and this feels like a solid mon in RBY as a defensive Ice type, which only works well in this gen. Susceptibility to para is really the only problem it has. It's like a weird Jynx/Gar/Zam hybrid.

Move 1:

Name:
Gunk Shot
Type: Poison
BP: 120
Acc:
90
PP: 8
Effect:
20 % chance to poison the target.
Competitive Description: Another try of getting Poison Mons to be good. This is the strongest Poison move. Reduced 10% the chance to Poison in exchange of increasing by 10% Accuracy, which makes the move even better.
Distribution:
:arbok: Finally has a STAB! Probably better than Hyper Beam on Wrap sets.
:muk: Doubles its power. Still walled by Rhydon, Cursola and Gengar, but does a lot more damage to the rest of the meta.
:weezing: Same as Muk. This one however has the Special to actually do something to Rocks and Ghosts.
:persian: Helps to hit Exeggutor hard, though this Mon already has limitations in its moveslots.
:primeape: This one actually apreciates not having Exeggutor as a free switch-in. Still not a good Mon, but another move is coming for him later.
:seismitoad: Just flavor, though it still helps vs Egg. Bellibolt is not getting the move.
:tentacruel: This can use SD + a powerful STAB + Wrap now.
:raticate: Flavor, but ok user of the move.

Mon 1:

1739380388135.png

Name:
Obstagoon :obstagoon:
Typing: Normal-Poison
Stats: 93/91/101/81/94
Original movepool: Blizzard, Body Slam, Counter, Double Edge, Fire Punch, Ice Beam, Ice Punch, Low Kick, Rest, Substitute, Surf, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Thunder Punch, Thunder Wave, Dig, Headbutt, Hyper Beam, Focus Energy, Leer, Lick, Mega Kick, Mega Punch, Pin Missile, Sand Attack, Screech, Submission, Tackle, Swift, Take Down.
Added moves: Toxic, Gunk Shot, Pay Day.
Removed moves: Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch

Having Poison typing sucks in RBY, but Normal one is very good. Obstagoon's Body Slams are weaker than Tauros and Snorlax ones, and he can,t hit Gengar well due to Dig being banned. The goon is also slower than Tauros and due to me removing 1 Speed point, slower than Jynx too. Why use then a Mon that looks so outclassed by RBY titans on top of being weaker to Ground and Psychic?
Well, the one good thing that Poison typing gives is neutrality to Fight, with Drain Punch and Focus Punch added, Obstagoon will be taking those moves much better than Tauros and Snorlax. Obstagoon is also quite bulky, with 93/101/81, so as long as Obstagoon doesn,t have to take Psychics and Earthquakes, he is going to stick around for quite a while. Despite being kinda walled by Gengar, Obstagoon can still paralyze it with Thunder Wave. Finally, Obstagoon has a higher Special than both Tauros and Snorlax. Unlike the rare Kanga and its atrocious 40 Special, Obstagoon has a roll to OHKO Rhydon with Surf.
Outside Hyper Beam, Obstagoon has Gunk Shot as its strongest move, doing devastating damage to Exeggutor and Bug types. Obstagoon trades blows vs Mons without STAB EQs and Psychics and due to its defensive Stats, often should win 1vs1 vs most common Mons. Apart from the dreaded Psychics, Obstagoon's checks are Gengar, Cursola, Omastar, Flygon and Seismitoad among others.

Move 2:

Name:
Dragon Pulse
Type: Dragon
BP:
70
Acc:
100
PP:
16
Effect:
Raises the user's Special 1 level. Changes user's secondary typing to Dragon unless it already has it. The typing change stays for the whole battle even if user switches out.
Competitive Description: Every Dragon that we have tried to put into this mod has failed to enter. The only exception was Flygon, who entered without the typing. This move aims to not depend on Mons submission to have Dragon, providing interesting type change to several overlooked OU Mons. Since Dragonite is already a viable Wrapper, he is not getting the move.
Distribution:
:venusaur: Often overlooked in favor of Victreebel, Venu nevertheles has always been a viable Pokemon in RBY. With Dragon Pulse, Venusaur removes its bad Poison typing, not being weak to Psychic anymore and resisting Ground too. However, its now murdered by Ice moves. Razor Leaf ignores the boost provided by Dragon Pulse, but Venusaur can now use Sappy Seed to defend itself from evil Ice Beam Chanseys.
:charizard: Hello, Mega Charizard-X, but Special. Removes Electric weakness for a Ground one, but still has weaknesses to Ice and Rock (although this one no longer OHKOs it). Fire and Dragon STAB combo is unresisted (though why I am even writing this, Dragon alone has no resists), although Charizard still won,t have it easy to succeed. Nevertheless, it now has a clear distinction from Moltres.
:arbok: Mainly flavor, but now resists Water and Fire (in exchange of Ice and Dragon weaknesses), so, with Dragon Pulse + Rest, it can kinda check Surf Slowbro. Still a mediocre Mon, but better than before.
:onix: Terrible Mon that remains terrible, but no longer weak to Water and Grass. Just flavor, this is still bad.
:kangaskhan: In exchange for Ice Beam weakness, Kanga now can run Rest sets better due to the Special boost Dragon Pulse provides. It used to be completely outclassed by Rest Snorlax at this, now it isn,t.
:seadra: This is the Mon I wanted to make better the most out of this list. Unlike every other Mon that gets Dragon Pulse, Seadra will now have just a single weakness, so it can use some stally Rest sets, while having a very good 95 Special (+ boosts).
:flygon: Gets its original typing back. Loses Ground resistance in the process, but also Flying, Fire and Water weaknesses. Gets murdered by Ice moves, but resists Rock and Fire ones. Only move good Special move it gets apart from Dragon Pulse itself is Fire Blast, so it mainly uses the boost defensively. Probably won,t be the best move for it to have, but still another option.

Mon 2:

1739382130371.png
(Haven,t found a better sprite for this guy, would apreciate if someone found a RBY style sprite for it)

Name: Archaludon :archaludon:
Typing: Electric-Dragon
Stats: 90/105/130/70/80
Original movepool: Body Slam, Double-Edge, Earthquake, Focus Energy, Hyper Beam, Leer, Light Screen, Reflect, Rest, Roar, Rock Slide, Slash, Solar Beam, Substitute, Swords Dance, Take Down, Thunder, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt
Added moves: Dragon Pulse, Counter.
Removed moves: Slash, Sword Dance.

Out of all Dragon Pulse users, Archaludon is the only one that is Dragon type from the beginning. This is not as good as it sounds, since its weak to Ice, though it also resists Grass, Water and Fire. Archaludon is a Mon with physical focused Stats (I gave him the 65 Special from Sdef and stole 5 points from Speed there, with 125 Special from Special Attack this would have been broken), but Special STABs. It nevertheless has some physical movepool in Normal moves, EQ and Rock Slide. Still, it has to use Dragon Pulse to get that Special rolling, otherwise it won,t be taking Psychics and Ice moves well.
Archaludon is a tank that requires opposing team to be paralyzed to sweep, though it can do it itself with Thunder Wave. With overall high Stats, Archaludon is flexible enough to appear at any stage of a game and play differently, depending on the situation it faces. Its balanced by 2 common weaknesses and not being too fast. Despite that, its a big threat that due to its bulk, has it easy to get multiple Dragon Pulse boosts.

Move 3:

Name:
Meteor Assault.
Type:
Fight
BP: 150
Acc: 100
PP:
8
Effect:
User cannot move next turn unless it KOs the target.
Competitive Description:
Another 150 power Fight move, though unlike Focus Punch, will have a low distribution. The main purpose of the move is to introduce its main user.
Distribution:
:machamp: Best user of the move... except the new one.
:primeape: Faster but frailer version of Machamp.
:clefable: It came in a meteor, so it gets the move. Serves as a way to battle opposing Normal mons... and Aurorus, who otherwise walls Clef hard.
:farfetch'd: Has SD to make this move even stronger. Its still a Farfetch'd, but its now not as easily walled by Rock type.

Mon 3:

1739383214701.png

Name: Sirfetch'd :sirfetchd:
Typing: Fight-Flying
Stats: 62/135/95/82/65
Original movepool: Body Slam, Double-Edge, Quick Attack, Rest, Substitute, Sword Dance, Counter, Focus Energy, Leer, Peck, Sand Attack, Sky Attack, Slam.
Added moves: Meteor Assault, Razor Leaf, Drill Peck, Slash, Wing Attack.
Removed moves: Sand Attack, Substitute, Counter, Slam, Sky Attack, Body Slam. (This brave and honourable Mon doesn,t use cheap tactics).

Sirfetch'd is an honourable Fight Mon. It has many weaknesses and a very low movepool, which due to its honor, doesn,t have any haxy move except Slash and Razor Leaf (which due to RBY mechanics, aren,t actually haxy). Out of all Fight mons, Sirfetch'd not only has the highest Attack (yes, it bypasses Machamp's one), but also the highest Special, though offensively it only serves for Razor Leaf. Sirfetch'd only gets one Fight move, but what a move! At +2, Meteor Assault obliterates almost everything that doesn,t resist it. Unfortunately Psychic and now Ghost types are common, but Sirfetch'd also has Drill Peck to hit those.
Sirfetch'd is a little slow, so it has to be used with paralysis support, Sirfetch'd itself doesn,t get Body Slam. Due to Meteor Assault nature, it also has to use Sword Dance in order to kill the maximum number of foes possible. This is hard, since Sirfetch'd has 4 common weaknesses. On the other hand, Sirfetch'd defensively is one of the best Rhydon checks that exists and unlike other Fight Mons, it can hit Starmie and Slowbro with Razor Leaf.
Sirfetch'd is hard to use, but a high reward Mon. The honor of using such an honest Mon and the brain of choosing the right teammates for it, will reward you with numerous wins. After all, Ash Ketchum became a World Champion with this duck knight.
