Pet Mod [Gen 6] Megas Revisited - Ladder Challenge @ Post 469 - Balance Proposals @ Post 486 - [Pet Mod of the Season]

What time would you be able to play in roomtours this weekend?

Meh. You're both fine. I'm surprised there weren't more of them honestly, which why I'm rather annoyed at myself for missing them first time given I was explicitly checking against Teambuilder too. Such typos are practically guaranteed to happen, especially if someone changes a stat again midway through an idea and in a subtle way on top of that. Outside of whatever needs to be done with Mewtwo, it doesn't look like they ever affected anything anyway due to Yoshiblaze and/or other people on the council catching them all except with Aggron-Mega--which of course has my own typo at the end of last post, sigh--and even that was a mere +10 SpA. Nothing monumental in that case since that's like its least relevant stat. Has anyone even used Volt Switch on that thing yet? [/not rhetorical]

Another tour would sooner than later be fun even with my broken ass computer, but I'll leave that up to you guys to decide. Just floating the idea now since I imagine people might be busier than usual on the Sunday after next due to that being Father's Day even as someone who never had reason to celebrate that and never will. Regardless, have a good weekend everyone, especially if you're anywhere those Canadian wildfires and all that smoke.

Hello!

Things have been pretty quiet here for awhile, with PMPL happening and other mods starting taking focus away from here. But, with PMPL over, I've come with big news. We are looking to hold a forum tournament for Megas Revisited very soon! This tournament will serve as a way to get some much needed playtesting for the metagame, as many recent Megas have basically not been used at all, and to just revisit (pun intended) our metagame overall.

More information will be released once we're closer to getting the tournament and everything we want to do before the tournament set up, but in the meantime I highly encourage you to get some practice games in order to reacquaint yourself with Gen 6 mechanics.

See you soon!

I'm back with those resources I promised! These should be helpful for anyone planning on joining the upcoming tournament.

ROUGH MEGA VIABILITY LIST (WITH SAMPLE SETS)
Below is a rough estimate of the viability of each Mega Evolution in the metagame. Due to a lack of playtesting this is very likely not completely accurate, but it should still serve a decent resource for deciding what Mega you should use, especially since sample sets are included.

*Note that these stats might not be 100% accurate, as getting usage stats for downloaded replays can be a little wonky and I had to manually clean a couple things up

Overall nothing too crazy for the most part, with a couple quick notes:
- Clefable being dominant in a Gen 6 metagame is no surprise
- Slowbro and TTar were the most commons mons with Megas, though their Megas only made up 2/10 of their total uses
- Scizor was the most common Mega, with 4/6 of its uses being as a Mega. Given by how we ranked it on the pre-tournament Viability List, this would be pretty surprising on paper, but honestly we probably just underrated it a lot, it's just generally pretty good
- Nidoking surprisingly had the highest usage out of anything that never lost, at 3, while Jirachi had a whopping 5 uses with no wins
- The only Mega used more than once with a 100% winrate was Tyranitar, whose Mega only got used twice. TTar was honestly one of the few Megas that I thought could be potentially broken, but it didn't go quite stupid enough for me to make a verdict on it yet. The only other Megas that I personally thought could be broken were Gyarados, who underperformed, and Mega Venusaur, who's borderline and did alright.
- 14/45 Megas went unused, being the following: Abomasnow, Absol, Beedrill, both Charizards, Garchomp, Heracross, Lucario, Mawile, Sableye, Salamence, Sceptile, Steelix, Swampert. Most of these are pretty bad or are fine but unimpressive, with the only 0 use Mega that's especially surprising to me being Sableye, as it's pretty great for stall teams but iirc either no one brought stall or the one or two times someone did that happened to not use it

And that's all! Overall, the tournament was quite a bit crazier than what the usage stats may tell you, but overall, it looks like that nothing is too dominant or broken right now, though I'll def keep my eye on a few like TTar, Venu, and Slowbro, but a decent number of Megas could be due for some potential buffs.

As for what's next, we'll continue to gradually develop the metagame, with maybe some buffs or nerfs in the future, as well as potentially more resources. In the meantime, I would also like to officially announce that, now that DragonHeaven has updated to Gen 9 with a new link, Mix and Megas Revisited is now playable! Have fun trying out the new Mega Stones on any Pokemon you could ever dream of!

That's all for now, see you soon!

Long time no see, huh?

It's been 9 long months since any development on Megas Revisited took, with us being pretty content with how the tier shook out after the tournament. However, we've now taken a more updated look at the metagame in recent times (shoutouts to Tanny89k and Gekokeso for playtesting) and decided that we should just a couple minor nerfs to some things that we felt were overtuned or buffs to things that were very very bad.

But why do all of this now all of a sudden? Well, that's because I'm happy to announce that Megas Revisited was selected as one of the tiers for the Pet Mods Premier League this year! This is a very exciting opportunity for what's been one of my favorite ever mods to work on and I'm super excited to see what comes of it. Thus, we decided to make these balance changes before the tournament to give some worse Megas a better shot at seeing play and taking some of the really really good ones down a peg.

Thus, the following changes will be made:
:sm/tyranitar-mega::sm/gyarados-mega:
Mega Tyranitar: -20 Atk, +20 SpA (New Stats: 100/144/120/110/144/82)
Mega Gyarados: -15 Atk, +15 SpA (New Stats: 95/130/109/85/130/91)
These two Megas were kinda crazy for basically the same reason, they were Dragon Dance sweepers with an insane strong ability-boosted STAB, being Tyranitar's Electric Surge-boosted Wild Charge and Gyarados' Aerilate-boosted Returns and Double-Edges. With their high Attack stats, good bulk, and pretty good Speed tiers at +1, it was very easy to cleave through entire teams after just 1 DDance, especially for Tyranitar as its Electric/Ice coverage was hard to stop. These guys weren't impossible to stop, as Rotom-Wash hardwalled Gyarados and Mega Audino could eat a hit from both and Thunder Wave them, but your options in stopping them after they set up were quite limited. In the forum tournament, neither of these Megas were able to really make a splash despite me thinking that they could be pretty busted even back then. Turns out, we were all kinda just using them wrong. Gyarados doesn't need to be on Hyper Offense teams to get setup opportunities and Tyranitar's Electric/Ice coverage is better supplemented by Low Kick or Superpower to handle the few good checks it has like Ferrothorn and Mega Audino. With these relevations, a power nerf to both felt fair. They should both still be absolutely terrifying, as their boosted STABs still hit like a truck, but resists should have an easier time taking them on as their other moves won't hit nearly as hard now.

:sm/venusaur-mega:
Mega Venusaur: Loses Earth Power
Probably Megas Revisited's most infamous Mega, Mega Venusaur has been a top tier threat since the day it dropped. Grassy Surge, great bulk, good power, super deep movepool, shockingly fast for what it is, it had everything. Despite this, I've always found it to be just outside the range of being broken. Even now, I was somewhat resistant to nerf it, but it felt right to at least take away one of its deep bag of tricks to make covering for it slightly less of a headache. Thus, Venusaur will lose Earth Power, making Steel-types like Heatran, Mega Metagross, and Jirachi more consistent checks to it. This isn't the biggest nerf in the world, as Hidden Power Ground is always an option, but knowing that your Heatran is mostly safe against this thing (barring Sleep Powder ig) is going to save a lot of people from headaches I think, especially if people start running Hidden Power Fire instead.

:sm/audino-mega:
Mega Audino: -10 Def, -10 SpA (New Stats: 103/60/120/110/97/55)
A mon I never really expected to nerf, but it was suggested that Mega Audino's crazy 103/130 physical bulk combined with its great Normal/Electric typing and Regenerator made it a bit too tough to wear down, especially with its effective slow pivoting with Volt Switch and ability to threaten Grounds with Ice Beam. Thus, a slight Defense nerf makes taking it down with neutral STABs or non-STAB coverage a bit easier, while still letting Audino easily check the now nerfed Gyarados and Tyranitar. Also, this is kind of a buff in a way, as the Special Attack buff lets Ice Beam and Volt Switch hit a little harder, with the latter now always OHKOing Mega Gyarados after Stealth Rock damage, so maybe we see some more of Audino's offensive potential now.

:sm/beedrill-mega:
Mega Beedrill: Exoskeleton now grants full hazard immunity instead of only halving hazard damage
This mon has always sucked and it might still suck after this, but Beedrill now being a fully hazard immune physical wall could actually give this thing some use as a tough to take down bulky pivot. Being the only Defogger fully immune to hazards has to be worth something and even with the hazard chip being halved in the past, now getting to completely ignore it makes it a lot easier for Beedrill to perform its role. Hopefully it can find a place on teams that don't need an offensive Mega now.

:sm/lucario-mega:
Mega Lucario: Now has the ability Lightning Rod instead of Limber
Pretty minor change to Mega Lucario here but one that'll hopefully pay dividends. Mega Lucario was a Slate 1 Mega, so while the other two Slate 1 Megas actually manage to age pretty well (with the aforementioned Audino even getting nerfed just now), Lucario eventually fell victim to power creep, mostly due to its meh stats and ability. While we held off on fixing the former for now, the latter was a simple fix. Lucario's concept was to be an anti-paralysis setup sweeper in the last generation where paralysis was busted, which is why it sported the otherwise unimpressive Limber. Swapping it with out with the much stronger Lightning Rod basically does the same thing but better. It gives Lucario a worse matchup against Serperior and the rare Body Slam Jirachi as its no longer protected from Glare or Body Slam, but in return it gets a much better matchup against every other paralysis spreader as all the rest of them use Thunder Wave, along with a super useful Electric immunity that gives Lucario more entry points. Additionally, the Special Attack boost from Lightning Rod makes it easier to use special sets like it was originally intended to since it can become more immediately threatening on a good switch in.

:sm/charizard-mega-y:
Mega Charizard Y: Delta Stream is now replaced by Dragon's Gale, a new ability which does the same thing but the ability holder now takes 50% damage from hazards
Another hazard damage-related buff. I appreciate that hazards mean so much in Gen 6 in a world with no Heavy-Duty Boots or insane Defog distribution or Great Tusk, but with all that said, Zard Y was not ready to live in such a world. While initially being seen as one of the best Megas when it first dropped in Slate 3, it eventually fell off hard as its 4x Rocks weakness just made it too difficult to justify using a more defensive-leaning Mega when hazard control is so limited in this generation. With this change, Charizard still has to take a big 25% from rocks every time it comes it, but with its great defensive utility from Delta Stream, typing, and Roost, this becomes a much easier pill to swallow. Of all the buffs, my bold prediction is that this one will matter the most. Oh, and just for clarification on Dragon's Gale, this doesn't make it so that other Flying-types take 50% damage from hazards, it just means that the Pokemon with the Dragon's Gale ability takes 50% damage from hazards.

:sm/steelix-mega:
Steelix-Mega: Now has the ability Flash Fire instead of Heatproof
And last but not least, we have a minor buff to an already kinda okay Mega. As much as I dislike the trope of "Megas/Form changes that turn a weakness into an immunity", this one is minor enough for me to be okay with since Mega Steelix already had Heatproof. Swapping to Flash Fire simply gives it a slightly better matchup into Fire-type but crucially also an immunity to Will-O-Wisp, meaning that the only burns it'll ever have to worry about are Scald burns, which is great for a wall that's already immune to Toxic. Should make it much easier to justify using Steelix in spite of its similarities to tier king Excadrill.

And that's it! I'm very excited to see how Megas Revisited turns out in PMPL. In the lead up to the tournament, we've got plenty of things coming, including an update to the Mega Viability List, a bunch of new sample teams, and more! See you soon!

Mega Venusaur: Loses Earth Power
Probably Megas Revisited's most infamous Mega, Mega Venusaur has been a top tier threat since the day it dropped. Noooooooooo my apparently broken child…

Finally got those resources we promised!

First, we've updated the Megas Viability List to account for the recent buffs and nerfs, plus meta developments from last year's forum tour and recent playtesting. It isn't super different from the old one, but it's still a better reflection of the current metagame, at least in the opinion of the council. Updated sample sets are also included.

Second, we've got a TON of new sample teams for you all! In fact, we have at least 1 sample team for every Mega Evolution. Huge thanks to Gekokeso and Tanny89k for building and playtesting a lot of these. A number of these teams also come from the ORAS OU Sample Teams thread or elsewhere in the ORAS Subforum, as the Megas they use are either the same here or very similar.
Samples are listed by Mega Evolution, in order of when the Megas were added.

Hello!

If you haven't heard already, Megas Revisited was recently selected to be this season's Pet Mod of the Season, meaning that we have a ladder on the main Pokemon Showdown server for the next 3 months! This is an exciting opportunity for a fairly old but still unexplored and deep metagame to get more eyes and development on it, something I'm looking forward to greatly. We'll have a few roomtours on the main server to celebrate the occasion, as well as likely having a second forum tournament near the end of the cycle (likely after my planned Banhammers forum tour that should be coming up soon, shoutouts to Banhammers). In the meantime, get out there and get laddering! If you need sample teams, we have 52 of them in this post and you only need one, so you should find that part easy!

Oh, and with PMPL going on, as a parting gift, here's the usage stats through the first 3 weeks of the tournament!

That's all for now, see you soon!

Thank you to Paulluxx, adorluigi, and velvet for running PMPL, as well as to my team for making the experience as fun as it was. Now, here's a review of my PMPL run:
:blastoise-mega::heatran::ferrothorn::zapdos::weavile::chansey:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen6megasrevisited-5621
This was a team I built a good bit prior to PMPL, and it had performed solidly enough for me to deem it worth bringing. I was pretty lazy with prep for the first few weeks. Chople Ferrothorn is to deal with Mega Tyranitar. Mega Tyranitar and Mega Gyarados were mons I went out of my way to account for pretty much every week. Even having been nerfed, those two are absolute menaces, being able to find Dragon Dance opportunities fairly easily and steamroll unprepared teams with their speed and power.
:steelix-mega::alomomola::chansey::zapdos::tangrowth::ferrothorn:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/...isited-5794-q5pvkd5qc8uyotukv47d9dal2i4qmo7pw
This team was another case of a me bringing a team I had lying about, thankfully also tested. Mega Steelix's defensive profile is kinda insane, it's got unreal physbulk, an incredible defensive typing (when factoring Flash Fire), immunity to Toxic and Will-O-Wisp, and plenty to do while on the field. This thing comes in on and forces out Weavile, Talonflame, Zapdos, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Absol, Mega Pinsir (how did noone bring this mon?), bulky Excadrill, etc. Only big flaw is its lack of recovery, which Alomomola does a handy job at patching up; finding opportunities to pass Wish isn't even hard, Steelix just comes in on so much even while low. Looking back, the stall mirror was pretty dire, and there were some questionable details (why is Tangrowth running Sleep Powder), but I'm otherwise pretty satisfied with this comp.
:absol-mega::rotom-wash::excadrill::tangrowth::tornadus-therian::serperior:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen6megasrevisited-6132
This is the first week I brought a team built specifically for PMPL. This is also the week where my lazy prep caught up with me.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/...ted-6537-ms8esgu78g9eob2m3epml4hn1578c4tpw?p2
Mega Sableye's still crazy as ever, a minor nerf to its bulk is not nearly enough to keep it from pulling its shenanigans. This game was an absolute delight, the stall mirror is my favourite mu. Shoutouts to Seismitoad for not dipping below 100% over the course of 400 turns nvm it ate a Facade.
:beedrill-mega::cresselia::rotom-wash::weavile::ferrothorn::heatran:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/...isited-6768-lx02j1v5uuqq2zxh4a7c2dycin6yn45pw
Following its buff, I felt Beedrill had potential. Functions a lot like a utility Mega Scizor that trades Bullet Punch, a more well-rounded defensive typing, and special bulk for hazard immunity and access to EQ (important for Mega Tyranitar and Mega Charizard X). Probably shouldn't have brought something as experimental as this when we needed to win the week to make it into playoffs. Focus Blast miss was unfortunate.
:keldeo::kangaskhan-mega::landorus-therian::jirachi::zapdos::weavile:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/...ited-188-fsl54l4xy8v8lru4yfldsnblbwbkbsmpw?p2
At the start of the week, Hydrei pointed out that the Lostmemories' builds were weak to Keldeo (thanks Hydrei). With that in mind, I decided to build a Healing Wish offense team with Keldeo and its buddy Mega Metagross. It then dawned on me that Mega Kangaskhan was completely bonkers, so I opted for that instead. I have no idea how this thing ever got past vetoes.

Hi!

With PMPL wrapped up, it's time to look back at how Megas Revisited first big tour spotlight went. And overall, I think it went exceptionally well, at least from a spectator point of view! I won't lie and say that I wasn't super worried about how the mod would do in a big tour setting like this, but aside from one near disaster (where Kangaskhan's Parental Bond was bugged to have its vanilla effect, but I caught said bug before it could effect any games because somehow no one thought to bring that crazy mon until like playoffs), Megas Revisited appears to have been received extremely positively, which I'm super happy about!

With the end of the tournament, I have the full usage stats to share with you now!

A couple super super quick takeaways:
- Excadrill and Clefable being top 2 in usage in a Gen 6 metagame, who could have ever guessed!
- Tyranitar was the most common Pokemon with a Mega at 7 uses, but I believe only one or two of those uses was as a Mega. The nerfs maybe made some people avoid using the Mega, but don't get it twisted, that mon is still crazy
- The most used Mega ended up being Scizor at 4 uses, which isn't much of a surprise, even with some of the crazy new Megas, base Mega Scizor is the definition of "old reliable"
- The most common new Mega was Gallade at 3 uses, which does surprise me a bit. It's a very threatening mon for sure and fills the strong Fighting-type nuke void left behind by us lacking vanilla Mega Medicham, but it wasn't really on my radar going into the tournament, at least to the extent that I'd expect it to be used that much
- Quite a few Megas went unused, mostly bad or below average ones or unreliable ones (read: Mega Aerodactyl). Meanwhile, the good Megas that went unused include Slowbro (who's a weird mon so I can see why you'd avoid it in a tournament), Pinsir, Diancie (who's a worse vanilla Diancie so I get it), Sharpedo, and Pidgeot. I'm willing to bet that we may have overrated Sharpedo or Pidgeot a little bit, I'm genuinely surprised no one used Pinsir, that mon is downright silly sometimes, even if it has physical Ice competition from Weavile
- Beedrill got a win. It didn't do anything in its battle, but it still won that game and you can never take that away from it.

And, as have many other PMPL mods have, we have a post-tournament community survey for you to answer, to help us look at the state of the Megas Revisited metagame to see if there's any concerns that we need to address. This survey is open to everyone but we're especially looking for responses from those who played in PMPL. Using the results from the survey, we may make balance changes, have quickbans, or whatever else we need to do. The survey is linked below, we'd greatly appreciate your input!

And lastly, as you know, Megas Revisited has been on the main Pokemon Showdown server since the beginning of August as our Pet Mod of the Season, so we have usage stats from there too!

First, I wanna extend a huge thank you to everyone who's been playing Megas Revisited on main, because in August, Megas Revisited had a whopping 713 ladder battles played. I know that doesn't sound like much compared to most official tiers or VGC or whatever, that's HUGE for a Pet Mod and one that wasn't even up until almost a week into August too, so thank you all for that! And this isn't even including room tournament battles held, not in the Pet Mods room, but actually the Portuguese room, who seem to enjoy the metagame a lot, so thank you to you guys too!
We were quiet during August, but we'll have some events on main during September and the rest of the PMOTS period, so look out for that.

The full August usage stats for Megas Revisited can be found in this link and in the spoiler tag below, along with what a theoretical Megas Revisited OU looks like solely using these stats:

The results of the post-PMPL survey are in!

A huge thank you to everyone who responded to the survey, this data will be invaluable in shaping the future of Megas Revisited and your discussion points were extremely interesting to read!

Without further ado, it's time to do my best Finchinator impression and get into the results!

Total Respondents: 9
Qualified Respondents: 7
"Qualified" meaning that they played tournament games in PMPL. All 9 respondents did at least do test games during PMPL.

"On a scale from 1-10, how much do you enjoy playing Megas Revisited?"
:venusaur-mega:Enjoyment: 7.00/10 Qualified, 7.11/10 Overall
"On a scale from 1-10, how competitive do you think Megas Revisited is?"
:blastoise-mega:Competitiveness: 6.29/10 Qualified, 6.11/10 Overall
Overall, people really seem to enjoy the metagame, which is great to hear! However, the competitiveness rating was a bit lower than I expected, being much lower than the Enjoyment rating, and definitely something we should try to address, which will hopefully happen with a couple of balance changes we'll need to make based on other answers from this survey.

"For the following Pokemon, rate how much you would support tiering action on them in Megas Revisited.
(1 being that you wouldn't support any tiering action on them, 5 being that you would want immediate tiering action on them)"
:altaria-mega:Mega Altaria: 3.14/5 Qualified, 3.22/5 Overall
Mega Alt was one of the two Megas I was most concerned about balance-wise before PMPL, being a insane wallbreaker with a deceptively good defensive profile who's only consistent defensive counterplay is Chansey and makes the lives of top tier Sand teams a living nightmare thanks to Weather Report's weather changing shenanigans. Despite an only okay run in PMPL, the playerbase seems to agree that Altaria should have some action taken on it.

:kangaskhan-mega:Mega Kangaskhan: 3.71/5 Qualified, 3.78/5 Overall
Mega Kangaskhan, the other Mega I was worried about before PMPL, comes in with by far the highest score, showing that it needs some immediate action. While it only made one appearance in PMPL, it was a pretty dominant performance, showing off how, much like Altaria, Mega Kangaskhan is also a crazy offensive behemoth that manages to still sport a decent Speed tier and defensive profile, except it's even scarier than Altaria since it can easily sweep with Power-Up Punch, be cheesy with Body Slam paras, and has a deep bag of options with its bountiful coverage and Slack Off.

:tyranitar-mega:Mega Tyranitar: 2.71/5 Qualified, 2.55/5 Overall
Mega Tyranitar received some support for action, especially among qualified respondents and may have action taken on it. Despite a pretty massive power nerf before PMPL, Mega TTar is still one of the scariest sweepers and wallbreakers in the tier, with its current bread and butter of Dragon Dance, Electric Terrain-boosted Wild Charge, Icicle Crash, and Low Kick being extremely hard to handle defensively while its pretty hard to take advantage of Mega TTar's awful defensive typing due to its crazy bulk, SpD boost from its base form's Sand Stream, and coverage for Ground-types. So while it didn't draw quite as much ire as Altaria and Kangaskhan, council will still definitely consider taking action on TTar.

:gyarados-mega:Mega Gyarados: 2.14/5 Qualified, 1.89/5 Overall
Like Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados is a terrifying DDance sweeper with a super strong ability-boosted STAB that was also nerfed before the tournament. Despite still being very strong, it looks like that nerf was pretty effective at reigning Gyarados in, with Gyarados not receiving very significant support for action. This did notably have the largest disparity between the Qualified and Overall scores, though, with a difference 0.25.

:sableye-mega:Mega Sableye: 1.71/5 Qualified, 1.56/5 Overall
Mega Sableye is a super strong option for stall teams, only being slightly nerfed from its Gen 6 Uber counterpart with 10 less Defense and Special Defense. Stall is also quite strong in Megas Revisited due to Sableye and other bulky Megas like Audino and Steelix, so we were curious on people's thoughts on arguably the playstyle's best option. However, it's quite clear that Sableye isn't a huge concern right now, with all but 1 person rating it a 1 or 2 and nobody rating it above a 3.

As for other elements that were of concern, only 2 other Megas were mentioned by the same person, being Mega Gallade and Mega Alakazam. Both are pretty strong offensive Psychic-types, with the former possessing huge wallbreaking potential thanks to Sharpness, and the latter being an amazing revenge killer and cleaner thanks to its great Speed and offensive profile. Neither were super high on my radar in terms of balance concerns, but we'll still give them a look.

:scizor-mega:Next, I asked an opinion question on one of the biggest talking points in Mega Revisited during PMPL, being the large number of unchanged Megas present in the metagame, with many of them being some of the best Pokemon in the tier like Lopunny, Metagross, and especially Scizor. These responses we got were super interesting and pretty split, which I'll summarize below:
- Those who saw the presence of vanilla Megas as a positive noted how it makes the metagame a lot easier to get into and digest, as a lot of your knowledge from regular Gen 6 OU will easily translate over, plus a lot of the vanilla Megas were fan favorites like Lopunny and Scizor.
-- Before the survey (and mostly still now), this was my take on question. Plus, metagames being bloated is a pretty common criticism of Pet Mods in general, so having less custom elements (plus Megas Revisited's concept keeping it from getting too bloated by default) helps its playability a lot
- Those who saw the presence of vanilla Megas as a negative noted how it goes against the concept of the mod of redesigning every Mega and how it's pretty lame that with so many of the vanilla Megas pretty good, games can often times end up just being Gen 6 OU.
-- Personally, I definitely agree that it's lame that you can find yourself playing Gen 6 OU a lot due to how good Metagross, Lopunny, and Scizor (plus Zard X and Latias to a lesser extent) are. This question was mostly just asked as a opinion question as I was curious on people who play the metagame see the issue, so it's very unlikely that we'll change or re-slate vanilla Megas. However, if we were to directly address this, it would likely be in the form of buffing other Megas to around the level of these great vanilla Megas, still letting people stay in their comfort zone with vanilla Megas but giving you more reason to branch out.

Speaking of buffs, the next question asked what the respondents thought were the worst Megas. We got quite a widespread of answer here, showing that while the metagame is in a pretty good place overall, so many Megas being seen as weak is fairly big issue when the goal of the mod was to make every Mega at least usable in OU.
As for what people responded with specifically:
:glalie-mega:Glalie was mentioned 3 times - Very understandable, it's been seen as one of the worst Megas basically ever since it was added, despite multiple significant buffs
:abomasnow-mega:Abomasnow was mentioned 3 times - Also understandable, it has severe bulky Ice-type syndrome and while Ice Scales is an amazing ability, it's arguably worse than vanilla Abomasnow's Snow Warning
:swampert-mega:Swampert was mentioned 2 times - While I think there are a good number of worse Megas, Swampert is definitely very awkward to use and still quite underwhelming
The following Megas were mentioned once::Lopunny-Mega::Blaziken-Mega::Houndoom-Mega::Slowbro-Mega::charizard-mega-y::Medicham-Mega::Mawile-Mega::Salamence-Mega::Ampharos-Mega::Aggron-Mega:
Aside from Lopunny, which I think was sarcastic, a lot of these are pretty understandable. Aside from Lopunny, the only ones I 1000% disagree with are Blaziken (which is probably my favorite Mega to use so maybe I'm biased...), Houndoom (who needs support but can be terrifying in the right situations), and Salamence (who's still bad though). Slowbro also probably isn't the worst either, but I can get why it was mentioned here since it's more directly outclassed by base Slowbro than it is in vanilla and is generally pretty awkward to use.
Also mentioned once was the simple statement of "literally anything that used in PMPL", which is fair and covers most of what people specifically mentioned, but would also include stuff like Latias and Pinsir, so I probably wouldn't go that far
Out of things that weren't mentioned, I'm surprised that no one said Beedrill (maybe those buffs actually worked), Lucario (who was also buffed recently but still seems underwhelming), or Latios (quite outclassed by base Latios)

We also asked for suggestions on how to buff these weaker Megas, with some interesting options that we'll certainly consider. We did get one concern that buffing weaker Megas, at least fundamentally flawed ones, may not be worth it if they don't improve the metagame as they'd bloat it with more overtuned presences, which is definitely a valid concern. If we do buff some Megas, we'll definitely focus on filling niches that nothing else can fill and making everything at least usable but not top tier.

And that's all! Thank you again to everyone who answered the survey, your input has been greatly appreciated!

As for what's next, I'll have a ladder-related announcement out tomorrow, but for what I can announce right now, we're planning on having a roomtour on the main server in the Pet Mods room this weekend, so stay tuned for more details! (tagging Zpice since I know you were asking about roomtours)
We also might have some immediate balance changes announced during the week as well, so look out for those as well!

That's all for now, see you soon!

As for what's next, I'll have a ladder-related announcement out tomorrow
look i'm a little stupid, okay (and also pretty busy but mostly that first thing)

Anyway, I'm here to announce that ladder event I teased!

Introducing the Megas Revisited Stone Collector Challenge!
The challenge is very simple: simply win a ladder game with every available Mega Evolution!
There are 44 Mega Evolutions legal on the ladder, so your job is simply to post a replay of you winning on the ladder which one of them!

For the specific guidelines, read the rules below:

Rules
Your goal is to win a ladder game with as many different Mega Evolutions as you can.
1. A game only counts towards your progress if it was completed to the point where you were very likely to win (so no Turn 1 Forfeits).
2. Only rated games count.
3. In order to count for that Mega Evolution, it must Mega Evolve in the game.
4. The challenge runs until the Mega Revisited ladder is removed from the main server.
5. To have your progress officially documented, simply post a replay of the game in this thread.
6. If you submit a replay of you on an alt that doesn't match your Smogon username (or other names I know you by), you must provide proof that the alt is yours (as you would in suspect tests). An example is shown below.
0
7. Ladder games that occurred before this announcement can count towards your progress, as long as you have replay proof.

I will be documenting every participant's progress in this post, with different named tiers. Everyone in the highest tier (or the best performing person, if no one makes it to the highest tier) will receive a special role in the Megas Revisited Discord and potentially an additional prize (I still have to think of one...)

That's all for now, happy laddering, and see you this weekend for the roomtour!

Hello!

Popping in real quick to say, first, that I'm extremely happy with the response to the ladder challenge so far! I thought it was a genuine possibility that nobody would reach 44 despite Megas Revisited being on main for a few more months at this point, but now just 2 days later and we have multiple people over a third of the way there and and one two-thirds of the way there! Thank you to everyone's who participated so far and keep the replays coming!

Secondly, we have an official time for this weekend's roomtour, being 4 PM EST on Sunday, September 22nd in the Pet Mods Room on Showdown. We unfortunately very likely won't have balance changes for Altaria and Kangaskhan out by then, so they'll still be at full power for the roomtour, but action on them will be coming soon, so look out for that.

That's all for now, see you Sunday!
