But I kind of like that that you only need to reset legendaries for the right natures because it will save so much time. I think Bottle Caps will not be that hard to obtain. I mean it is a Bottle Cap. Like you either would need to find them somewhere or you would need to buy them. Maybe they added a feature where you can change the nature of your Pokemon too. We do not know yet.

Well, it all depends. If you have game sync, every time you sync your game, you send info the PGL. If they detect some things that are really off, like this, they can have a proof you have altered your save. That happened wit my OR. I didn't have a single illegal Pokémon, and I haven't edited anything but the number of items in my bag, and I got a ban.
Also, I was not specifically talking about discovering or not someone is doing something illegal. Hacking is hacking, period. In this case, I see it as black, white and one shade of grey. If you think it's ok to have hacked Dittos, but like to breed, then you are in the grey. If you hack anything in your game, your hacking. If you are against hacking, you don't do any of those.
I'm not against hacking per se, but nobody can say they are grinding things because they have 999 IV caps but leveled their pokémon up to level 100 (something that's also easy to do with PokéMiles Rare Candies). Either you hack or not.
Might as well just soft reset for the natures anyway... Also makes no odds cause it's not like the cards expire at any point. If they are on the cart, they are on the cart. There's still a month overlap as well so you've got plenty of time to find out how bottlecaps work. With all the hype about them, I am pretty sure their mechanics are going to be explained extremely quickly.
For some reason, modding them directly is immoral, but getting items which make them better is not... Yeah I don't get it either :P
I really do hope at least some of these abilities get given to other mons. The more generic ones like Beserk/Stamina should be given to other Pokemon. I can understand things like Disguise not being given to other Pokemon though.
Exactly. Anything which reduces RNG is great in my opinion. At the end of the day this is changing legitimately nothing about the competitive side of the game at all. Depending on the mechanics of how the bottlecaps work, HP mons are still going to be in demand.
if it switches out to a pokemon of the trainers choice, then I dont even see this ability as bad, rather It almost has some competetive merit doesn't it!? You can dish out a hit against a pokemon, and then, if that pokemon has the ability to 2ohko you, you can switch to a pokemon that deals with it better, rather then switching directly and a) giving the opponent the ability to dole out damage, no matter how insignificant, to its check or counter, and b) you can dish out damage to your opponent and switch to a check and counter in the same round, although this merit is tempered by the fact that you lose over half your health, and it is a one-trick-pony ability.
Regardless, with some creativity, I can see the ability as being able to perform atleast a very small niche function, and I dont think it is as hopeless as many on this thread are making it out to be.

Well, isn't this whole ethical issue regarding hacking rather a YMMV stuff? I'm still in the spectrum of "no hacks!", but I know many people somehow justify it, so I suppose to debate on such thing is useless.
Randomised IV was actually a good concept as I remember reading a Trainer Tips sign somewhere that each Pokemon is unique (well, maybe in-game), but then it is broken as players realise how to get most optimal monster and GF keep introducing ways to get optimal monster that is still not that optimal. The result until now is well... eugenics. IV system is only good when they have great security and never tells that IV even exist beyond "each Pokemon is unique".

Honestly there is either hacking or no hacking I don't really care about hacking and I do it but others like Nintendo do. I'm pretty sure a lot of people at VGC gen but with this bottle cap it'll be so much safer because you can just catch the Pokemon and then chug in the necessary bottle caps.
idk why people are saying this is dumbing the game down. battling hasnt been dumbed down. breeding is still necessary to bypass most of the IV grind. soft resetting for the perfect legendary requires no skill, just lots of time. this is a great change that will open up competitive cart to many more people. i personally quit after x/y because RNG was no longer possible and i couldnt justify the time spent breeding and resetting legendaries

speaking the whole "dumbing the game down" I really hope that SE notifier isn't available during wifi/irl battles. I know it sounds dumb. But with lesser experienced friends being incentivized to just press the button doesn't really make you experiment as much and make you learn about stuff like prediction.

i believe i read a post where someone complained that they didn't like how the games were simplifying breeding with each generation. i think with bottle caps (if they are indeed going to be grindy BP rewards), it's nintendo's way of keeping the grind, but ensuring that you have a guaranteed reward at the end of it. so instead of soft resetting for 10 hours with no guarantee of the perfect legendary, you can now grind BPs for 10 hours knowing that you will be rewarded
I'm completely satisfied with all this simplifications of tedious mechanics that GF is introducing every gen (infinite MTs, new Exp. Share, Super Training, Hyper Training etc etc...). What I actually found underwhelming in 6th gen was the quality of in-game battles, they weren't challenging at all... And this needs to change too imho, I would be pretty disappointed by SuMo if the quality of in-game battles doesn't improve from 6th gen. Higher levels, better AI and better use of movepools and items is needed to compensate all these simplifications. B2W2 was a first step in that direction, 6th gen unfortunately threw that away.

Because powersaves only lets you set IVs to 31, 30, 1, and 0. If you want anything else, you can't use powersaves for it.

Also does this take into account abilities? I don't think it would but if it's designed to be new player friendly (which is what I assume) then if your Earthquake is Super Effective on Bronzong but it has Levitate, well, it's sort of misleading I guess?
EDIT: And abilities such as Fluffy that give a Pokemon an extra weakness or something because if so that's free information!

I'm also someone who spent 100s of hours to get good IV Pokemon... and I'm really happy about Hyper Training being able to change / increase IVs.
Breeding or softrestting is probably the most boring and time consuming time-waste I had in my life (and I'm 28; been SRing since RBY and throughout all generations).
I have over 1300 hours on my Alphasapphire, ~30 of it is probably playing normally through the story and catching Pokemon (I have a living Dex too).
I have basically 8 full boxes of competitively bred and trained Pokemon (mostly 5 perfect IVs, since most of the time the 6th one isn't needed anyway), all bred myself. And I'm still trying to catch all legendaries in XYORAS with good IVs and natures (there are still A LOT of them missing).
Out of breeding and softrestting, this is probably the order on how annoying these things are:
- softresetting for an internet-event poke (since you can't influence the nature); super annoying since oftentimes you get great IV spreads, but not the right nature - and when you finally get the right nature there's always something off too much.
- softresetting for legends you have to catch; only 50 % chance for synchronize to work, some have super annoying sequences shown which you have to get through, and then you have to lower their HP / put them to sleep, throw many many balls and hope for the best. This is especially annoying if you want one with a specific Hidden Power (I'm super proud of my great Thundurus with HP Ice which is almost perfect). It's waaay too annoying and time consuming to always have to wait so much for catching them. That's why I'm trying to collect a lot of IDs from wonder trade to get lucky in the lottery and the "pick something up" ability from 5 friends in my secret bases (I have both omega ruby and alpha sapphire). Checking all of this daily in hope of getting lucky.
Yeah- legends are supposed to be hard to catch, and it's a good thing, but the problem is getting a good one is just too boring and wasting too much time. Most competitive players don't even do this and just Gen/RNG them anyway.
- breeding; it's suuuuper boring and time consuming, but at least you get closer and closer over time. Some parents can be used for other Pokemon etc. so it's really getting better and better. It still takes hours and hours of just holding up and pressing A and being frustrated over almost-perfect ones. So in the end it's just a endlessly boring thing to do. It's kinda fun- for a little bit. But then you want the right Hidden Ability and gender and then it's becoming super stupid (especially for Pokemon that have a 12.5 % chance of the right gender). Some genderless Pokemon are super annoying too, since you need to have a 5 or 6 IV Ditto (which "normal" people can't usually get by themselves).
Pokemon from previous Gens often aren't good enough:
In Black/White I bred some Pokemon and have like almost a box full of them. They all have 2-4 perfect IVs (mostly 3). So they were basically all useless when XY came around since it was possible to get pretty much perfect ones. For anyone who wasn't RNGing or PokeGenning or whatever it was almost impossible to get even any near perfect Pokemon.. so having gotten the new options in XY was amazing!
I got one perfect 'mon by breeding in White, though. A perfect 6IV Squirtle with Water Spout, I was really happy, but it was just a breeding parent for the newer games, since some new Egg Moves are kinda needed.
So basically they often give Pokemon new tools (abilities, egg moves, ..) which makes you having to rebreed them anyways. Now if they kinda "force" you to rebreed all of them again (so they're from Sun/Moon) that makes it super annoying having to do most of the work again.
Also, who didn't have "almost perfect" or "okay" shinies bred that maybe came too early (before I had bred better parents)? Or legends with "just" 3 or 4 perfect IVs [basically all of my gen6 legends since I don't RNG]? It's just SO much time saving that they finally give you something to "fix" these almost perfect Pokemon.
Hyper Training:
Though I don't get why they made it so you can only use Hyper Training to change IVs when your Pokemon is level 100... I mean it kinda makes sense as a final reward you get for fully levelling up, but since XY they basically tried to give all the Pokemon upon reaching level 50 everything they need. And basically all battle competitions were held at level 50.
Every move you'd need can be gotten by Heart Scales, Move Tutors or Egg Moves. Or they just learn them earlier. I could basically get all needed moves by level 50 for every Pokemon. The only ones that are higher are ones that evolve later like Hydreigon or Tyranitar, etc. So it's just kinda a hustle having to level them up further. Levelling to lvl 100 will take quite a bit of time and who knows how exactly the hyper training works... it could take more time than Super Training and even getting the Bottlecaps could take time like them being sold for like 100 Battle Points or something. Also I think it would be good enough if they raise IVs by 1 (maybe you only get something like "Bronze Bottlecaps" endlessly ingame). That would make it easier to get better Hidden Powers too (though tbh I think you should be able to change it seperately with a move tutor or something similar, and not have it influenced by IVs).
It'll take a looot of time to train all these Pokemon to level 100 now, and then you have to get all the money/BPs/whatever to get these Bottlecaps and then you still have to "Hyper Train" them.
So basically I think it's not worth it over breeding normally. Maybe a few times for Ditto, shinies, legends or genderless Pokemon. Which is perfectly fine. Though to be fair I'd also don't mind something that changes natures. Give me all them options to save some time (I'd mostly want it to "fix" some legends or shinies, or maybe switch sets around for Pokemon I have already trained). I'd rather battle than spend 1000s of hours of breeding and softrestting, basically just sitting there and pressing the same button and not even looking at what I'm doing.
Making people able to get all Pokemon perfect without cheating and without spending half their life on it is a great thing.
Breeding or softrestting is probably the most boring and time consuming time-waste I had in my life (and I'm 28; been SRing since RBY and throughout all generations).
I have over 1300 hours on my Alphasapphire, ~30 of it is probably playing normally through the story and catching Pokemon (I have a living Dex too).
I have basically 8 full boxes of competitively bred and trained Pokemon (mostly 5 perfect IVs, since most of the time the 6th one isn't needed anyway), all bred myself. And I'm still trying to catch all legendaries in XYORAS with good IVs and natures (there are still A LOT of them missing).
Out of breeding and softrestting, this is probably the order on how annoying these things are:
- softresetting for an internet-event poke (since you can't influence the nature); super annoying since oftentimes you get great IV spreads, but not the right nature - and when you finally get the right nature there's always something off too much.
- softresetting for legends you have to catch; only 50 % chance for synchronize to work, some have super annoying sequences shown which you have to get through, and then you have to lower their HP / put them to sleep, throw many many balls and hope for the best. This is especially annoying if you want one with a specific Hidden Power (I'm super proud of my great Thundurus with HP Ice which is almost perfect). It's waaay too annoying and time consuming to always have to wait so much for catching them. That's why I'm trying to collect a lot of IDs from wonder trade to get lucky in the lottery and the "pick something up" ability from 5 friends in my secret bases (I have both omega ruby and alpha sapphire). Checking all of this daily in hope of getting lucky.
Yeah- legends are supposed to be hard to catch, and it's a good thing, but the problem is getting a good one is just too boring and wasting too much time. Most competitive players don't even do this and just Gen/RNG them anyway.
- breeding; it's suuuuper boring and time consuming, but at least you get closer and closer over time. Some parents can be used for other Pokemon etc. so it's really getting better and better. It still takes hours and hours of just holding up and pressing A and being frustrated over almost-perfect ones. So in the end it's just a endlessly boring thing to do. It's kinda fun- for a little bit. But then you want the right Hidden Ability and gender and then it's becoming super stupid (especially for Pokemon that have a 12.5 % chance of the right gender). Some genderless Pokemon are super annoying too, since you need to have a 5 or 6 IV Ditto (which "normal" people can't usually get by themselves).
Pokemon from previous Gens often aren't good enough:
In Black/White I bred some Pokemon and have like almost a box full of them. They all have 2-4 perfect IVs (mostly 3). So they were basically all useless when XY came around since it was possible to get pretty much perfect ones. For anyone who wasn't RNGing or PokeGenning or whatever it was almost impossible to get even any near perfect Pokemon.. so having gotten the new options in XY was amazing!
I got one perfect 'mon by breeding in White, though. A perfect 6IV Squirtle with Water Spout, I was really happy, but it was just a breeding parent for the newer games, since some new Egg Moves are kinda needed.
So basically they often give Pokemon new tools (abilities, egg moves, ..) which makes you having to rebreed them anyways. Now if they kinda "force" you to rebreed all of them again (so they're from Sun/Moon) that makes it super annoying having to do most of the work again.
Also, who didn't have "almost perfect" or "okay" shinies bred that maybe came too early (before I had bred better parents)? Or legends with "just" 3 or 4 perfect IVs [basically all of my gen6 legends since I don't RNG]? It's just SO much time saving that they finally give you something to "fix" these almost perfect Pokemon.
Hyper Training:
Though I don't get why they made it so you can only use Hyper Training to change IVs when your Pokemon is level 100... I mean it kinda makes sense as a final reward you get for fully levelling up, but since XY they basically tried to give all the Pokemon upon reaching level 50 everything they need. And basically all battle competitions were held at level 50.
Every move you'd need can be gotten by Heart Scales, Move Tutors or Egg Moves. Or they just learn them earlier. I could basically get all needed moves by level 50 for every Pokemon. There IS one hidden negative to Hyper Training that we should actually be upset about, but it's mostly an indirect negative. It will actually be a bit harder to get the Pokemon we need to make the "perfect" Pokemon due to people having less breeding rejects to Wonder Trade.
Think about it: who here doesn't get a ton of HA Pokemon (like the near constant Protean Froakies), Pokemon with hard-to-get egg moves, or even female Pokemon in Kurt Balls/Dream Balls via Wonder Trade? Now with Hyper Training, especially if the bottle caps are common enough, there will be a lot less of that and thus even more of the equivalent of the lvl 2 Zigzagoon or lvl 2 Keen Eye Fletchlings. Half of my breeding projects this year started with me going to my "Good Wonder Trades" box and picking up the ancestor to my final near-perfectly-bred Pokemon. I wouldn't have even gotten things like Iron Fist Chimchars if it wasn't for Wonder Trade. I hope they make the Gen VII HAs accessible easily (and hopefully not through Pokemon Go because as someone without a smartphone that'll really piss me off) or else we're going to have some problems as we all race to try to get the next Protean Froakie.

It would depend on the rarity and effect of the bottle caps, so I'd still count, at least, on outright garbage-IV rejects still being common.
Am I the only one who's never really used Wonder Trade for this? Like... I've never really got anything good from it and I just gave up on it after a while and got all my stuff manually. And I have a complete collection of female breedable Dream Ball HA Pokémon, and the rest of the breedable Dream Ball and HA Pokémon. And I once had a complete collection of female breedable Safari Ball Pokémon.
So... really, it ain't that bad. Just trade normally. Besides, it's not like it'll go away - as mentioned a ton of times in this thread, breeding will still be very relevant. If anything it'll mean you'll see a lot more 4IV Pokémon than 5IV.
