Hello gamers,
after some talk with other gen8 fans on discord, i'd like to propose a schedule for a gen8 NatDex OU circuit, and a team tournament focused on gen8 NatDex formats. The purpose of this thread is to gather people's opinion on what it should look like.
Here is my proposal:
Circuit
Starting from september, we could go for something looking roughly like this (more precise dates will be decided if this goes through):
- Autumn Seasonal (double elimination): signups in October 2024
- Ladder Tournament: signups in December-January
- Spring Seasonal (double elimination): signups in March
- Last Chance (single elimination): signups in May
- Playoffs would start in July
I'm especially interested to hear what people think about the idea of a ladder tour in particular. The gen8 ladder isn't super active, although it has been on a steady rise since its reintroduction, getting around 30k games in July. It might not end up being the best experience ever but i believe it is probably still worth a shot.
Team Tournament
This would be a PL-like tournament, featuring gen8 NatDex OU of course but also potentially UU, RU, Monotype and AG, metagames that even though don't see much play nowaday they still retain noticeable interest - in any cases, there most likely will be a format discussion thread before signups go up so we can discuss this in more details. This will be a smaller tournament than NDPL in terms of number of signups, so i assume we would probably go for something like 6 slots with 6 or 8 teams. Not sure about the timing yet, although as long as it doesn't conflict with ndwc/ndpl i think it should be fine.
For now i'd mostly like to know if people are interested by the idea of a team tournament, and on when it should be hosted. Formats will be decided much later, and there will be a dedicated thread about that.
That's it for my proposal. What do you think? Is there anything you believe should be done differently? Should we go for other kinds of tournament formats (such as live tours)? Any other ideas? Voice your thoughts! Either on this thread or on discord is fine.
On the topic of less "serious" tours, like ghosting tours: those won't necessarily be planned in the schedule in advance, however be aware anyone interested to host something fun or a bit off beat can! Just pm a forum mod on smogon or discord (my discord tag is .r.8.) to get permission for it.
