Project Gen8 National Dex OU Teambuilding Competition

Tyranitar's fall from grace is no stranger to many people. Its once omnipresent power and control over the tiers it used to dominate has come to an end. It is no longer sweeping teams with dragon dance easily nor is it pursuit trapping on the scale it once did. Until today. We present to you: Ol' faithful. The WEAKNESS POLICY DRAGON DANCE TYRANITAR.

:tyranitar:
The star of the show, Tyranitar finds its place on this team as a phenomenal screens abuser that leverages its amazing natural bulk to safely set up behind screens. The coverage here is given to hit most of OU’s metagame for at worst neutral damage with Stone Edge. Tyranitar’s amazing bulk allowed us to play around a lot with EV spreads, but the spread here has its reasons. Attack investment is just enough to OHKO Mega Mawile at +2 with Fire Punch (+2 252 Atk Tyranitar Fire Punch vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 276-326 (102.2 - 120.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO) and the defensive investment is done to eat Greninja’s Choice Specs once. (252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja Hydro Pump vs. 16 HP / 60 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 288-342 (83.4 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Tyranitar can be surprisingly threatening, but its poor speed is among its most debilitating factors, which is why screens added bulk helps alleviate Tyranitar’s issues and let it properly shine. It’s important that Tyranitar should be played very carefully, as if it sustains any amount of chip whatsoever its functionality declines. This is negligible if Tyranitar has a poor matchup, in which case it’s fine for it to trade one for one. Versus Rain or Sun, however, you should play it aggressively to disrupt the weather’s ability to sweep as effectively as possible.

:tapu_koko:
With the need for screens comes a need for a setter, and Koko fills this niche perfectly. Debatably, the tier’s best screen setter, Koko uses its amazing speed tier, access to Taunt and U-Turn to enable unimpeded. There’s not a lot to say, really, it’s just your ordinary HO enabler.

:landorus-therian:
HO loves hazards, and what’s better than tier staple turned into a lead? Landorus-Therian uses its sky high attack stat and access to Swords Dance to force hazards onto the field. Ferrothorn, opposing Landorus, Corviknight, Zapdos, etc, they all cannot comfortably play their part in the hazard war without being threatened by Lando. It’s good to play Lando proactively, you want to maximize the most out of its value defensively and offensively, as it’s your only ground type, and Landorus can still be very threatening to slower teamcomps as opposed to the one for one trader it is into faster paced teams.

:volcarona:
The MU moth finds its place on this team with ease. HO staple, this version of Moth servers primarily to aim well into Balances and some Offences that might otherwise give this team some issues. Play it carefully: a lot of the times Volcarona is your wincon into teams, so conditioning it to win is going to more often than not be your goal. This mon also seriously enjoys Reflect, as it eases its issues regarding lackluster physical defense and lets it QD more freely. Pokemon you should be aiming to weaken for this vermin to win are answers like Chansey, Blissey, Heatran, Dragonite, and Greninja.

:gyarados-mega:
Another fantastic screens abuser, Gyarados is here to function as a good breaker, with its attacks being effective at forcing chip damage against defensive Pokemon to enable them, while also being a defensive stopgap against Greninja. Gyarados is more often than not going to be the first Pokemon you’re going to send out once screens are up, as its immense bulk behind screens allows it safe set-up opportunities to let it wear down teams for its teammates to break with more ease. Power Whip is here because this team is incredibly weak to Urshifu, but this also has the benefit of cleanly OHKOing Tapu Fini. If Urshfiu isn’t a concern, Taunt or Waterfall could be used instead.

:alakazam:
Now, the featured Pokemon of the week tends to be the shitmon, but in this case Tyranitar has actually been surprisingly consistent. Instead, the shitmon is Alakazam! Pretending as if it’s on a sand team in BW, Alakazam sucks. It’s way frail, not fast enough, and gets outpaced very easily. That’s okay though, because Alakazam will usually not be doing much against offence, it instead specializes in stallbreaking. Stall has no real reliable answer to Fairium Z Alakazam bar Shedinja- but that’s okay because nobody uses that! With this set, Stall is easy to break, as Twinkle Tackle lacerates Mega Sableye and Alakazam can easily brute force its way through Chansey or Blissey. Just get up screens and watch your dopamine spike as every one of stall’s members breaks. It won’t usually clean on its own, just open up a hole usually big enough for something else to break. Against offence, Alakazam is usually not doing much, so if it’s to get momentum in your favor, don’t be afraid to sack Alakazam.

we do have some replays to show off the team’s effectiveness, this week’s victims are Miyoko and Adriyun! fortunately Hiro was spared as we lost the replay we had vs him… :(

Team A: Ttar Offense by eona misa

offense team centered around using ttar's insane bulk to make trades and spam pursuit for the offensive threats on the team.

:tyranitar-mega:
the featured mon and enabler for the team. pursuits the big special walls for volcarona and lele, zapdos and latias for kartana, and other threats to the team like choice locked greninja or weavile. ice punch is so useful to hit gliscor which is super scary with sd.

:KARTANA:
sd kart is so good at punching holes in the opposing team, especially with its main checks being vulnerable to pursuit. it also enjoys setting up or spamming knock off on waters or steels that its teammates tend to attract.

:VOLCARONA:
volc has solid defensive utility making it easier to deal with stuff like kyurem or rillaboom. as always, it is an amazing wincon that can easily clean up with its checks removed via pursuit.

:rotom-wash:
fantastic utility mon that helps greatly with rain and greninja. dual status allows you to annoy everything that switches in, and pain split gives the team some longevity.

:landorus-therian:
classic defensive set, helping the team vs electrics and fightings. explosion is used over toxic to slam gliscor and other bulky mons with unexpected immediate damage, as well as gain momentum.

:tapu-lele:
just an incredible scarfer that also happens to love pursuit. volcarona loves terrain boosting its psychics and protecting it from priority, and ttar likes being immune to bullet punch. future sight is the last move to give the team even more breaking power while being a decent midground option.

Team B: Choice Band Tyranitar by Xurkiyee
Ttar is the GOAT of competitive pokemon. Even in the 8th generation it remains one of the hardest hitters in the game, especially with choice band (the focus of the team).

Provides great speed control and a stops mons like scizor, volcarona, and tapu lele from getting too far. Final gambit can remove mons like toxapex, slowbro, and zapdos at the drop of a hat, working very well with lopunny.

:tapu fini:
Ol reliable hazard removal, status blocking, hit taking machine.

:tyranitar:
The GOAT. Hits really hard, and can make its way in on a psychic, fire, flyer, or chansey from the 3 u-turns on the team. After that it goes to town.

:lopunny-mega:
Speed control and clean up after ttar wipes the floor of the defensive pokes. Good insurance against HO and weather.

:ferrothorn:
Designated spikes setter and prevents an autoloss to rain. Leech seed is great for increasing the longevity of your fini, ttar, and vic as well.

:landorus-therian:
Modern goat. Sets up rocks and snipes zapdos out of the air with a big rock.

The description is very short and basic, but that's because the team is very intuitive to use and there is no high brained tech to explain. Hope anyone using this team has as much fun as I did.

Our next featured mon is Volcarona! I remember back in my first BW playthrough I found this Pokémon inside those ruins in the route with sandstorm. With Volcarona being such a competitive powerhouse having access to quiver dance + high raw stats and a wide movepool, I'm curious to see what sets people will bring to this Competition!

Hi everyone, as this teambuilding competition has not received enough builds to compete, I think it's best if we put it on hiatus until the season is right again. Thank you for 10 successful weeks though!

Submissions will be open until the next cycle begins :)

For this week I decided to build around an old ass SM OU core to make things more interesting for myself. M-Diancie + Bug Z Bulkarona. So without further delay, I present to you....
diancie-mega.gif:ss/volcarona::ss/tapu koko::ss/gliscor::ss/rotom-wash::ss/ferrothorn:(Importable)
Sleep Deprived - Volcarona Bulky Offense
Team name is inspired by me not sleeping for over 24 hours while making this team and post.

Explanations:
:diancie-mega::volcarona:
So obviously the core of M-Diancie and Bug Z Volc is pretty self explanatory. Diancie keeps hazards away from Volcarona, allowing it to thrive. There's not much else to explain here.

:tapu-koko:
For some reason my brain told me to add an electric type pivot mon here, so I ended up adding Tapu Koko. Originally, this slot had Regieleki, but I noticed that my team was a little bit weak to Landorus since I had no consistent way to widdle it down other than hazards + status. In the end I ended up changing it to Koko for HP Ice coverage. Zeraora might be able to work here too, but I preferred Koko cus of its longevitiy with roost as well as its utility of being a terrain setter.

:gliscor:
Here I noticed that my team was entirely specially oriented so far, meaning all it took was 1 good special wall to wall me. I decided to add SD Gliscor here due to it being immune to status conditions like burn after the orb procs. Gliscor also provides good utility against Volt Switchers on this team too, since its the only electric immunity. It's natural bulk is just great on this type of team as well.

:rotom-wash:
Originally, Slowbro was in this spot, but I decided against using it because I wanted something that could get rid of hazards for me as well. I considered Tapu Fini here, but in the end I valued Rotom's volt switch very highly on this team since the only other pivot move was Koko's u-turn. It also just happens to check a decent amount of threats that I needed to check.

:ferrothorn:
I wanted spikes, another wall, and it's typing is good for me here. Plus, thunder wave is good speed control for this team

Edit: I forgot to post replays of Volcarona carrying me even though I was playing like shit

I can't believe my lazy ass co-host Djwaot made Volcarona - the most basic ass mon of all time - the last featured mon. Yes folks that's right I am back here today to pick up the slack and revive this project (make no mistake I am getting paid to post this):

jl0968oeb6bb1.gif

Our next featured mon is Blacephalon! Unless you're packing a Tyranitar, your team probably doesn't have a Shadow Ball switch in. Learn to play and learn to outplay a Pursuit trapper and the world can be your oyster (or I guess exploding head clown?) with a near unresisted and mind-blowingly strong Blacephalon.

Submissions will be open until Sunday, June 9th!

:tapu-lele:
Tapu Lele @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Gravity
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Moonblast

This team is builded around Gravity. Lele is one of the setter, solid mon great stabs theres no need to explain it further. Setup Gravity, drop some 100% acc blast and go to the next mon. The fairy mon of the team + terrain control is always nice. Wine glasses can be replaced with boots, lefties, spoon or even sash.

:blacephalon:
Blacephalon @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 56 HP / 180 Def / 20 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind
- Hypnosis

Now here comes the clown. Speed boosting spread with Hypnosis its a menace and unexpected since every set on this ting is choiced, can lure a large list on switch ins like heatran, pex, fini, and any other water type. Once you land the hypnosis its just cm spam, unprepared teams may have a lot on trouble dealing with this set, sacrificing some checks for the rest of our mons in the process and condeming them into a bad position.

Why Colbur berry?

This team its gimmicky, certain mons may be problematic. Colbur Berry can take a kill on mons trying to koff on blaceph. Mons such as scarf kart, boots vile, clef, etc. Mons that couldnt look problematic since we have a mscizor on the team, but sometimes scizor will need full health to check another mons. Scizor can be punish on the switch with hazards, hazards are problematic cuz of the lack on cleaning that the team have. Colbur Berry kinda solve that issue to make sure Scizor is healty enough on endgame.

:landorus-therian:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Groundium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Gravity

Papi lando another user of gravity, sd Z ground its a powerful wallbreaker that can 6-0 stall and bulky teams, against other type of teams its just a suicide lead. Notice how our only attack is eq so we need to predict a bit if we want to make this lando to do a good job. Rocks are mandatory.

:Excadrill:
Excadrill (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- High Horsepower
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

This thing is disgusting. Unexpected scarfer and abuser of Gravity, spin on some problematic situations. The main speed control on the team and counter of electric types, eq becomes the more spameable move ever on some matchups, horsepower if theres grassy on the field and Ihead just overall neutral good stab. This mon has so many funny interations and its flexible. Dont mess with el topo.

:toxapex:
Ryan Toxling (Toxapex) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 108 Def / 152 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze

Theres no secret we need some defensive backup. Mixed pex is always cool, Tspikes can have a funny interactions on gravity to poision mons like lando or Mlati so keep it in mind, its also a great lead vs balance. Pex deals with volcarona, pivots on rain teams, force progress and looks good doing it (its literally me).

:scizor-mega:
Scizor-Mega (F) @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 52 Def / 208 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Roost

This is the wincon, this is what is gonna reverse sweep once the rest of the team lure and beats some mons, shes gonna be the endgame protagonist most of the time so be careful on those scald burns. Priority its needed on this type of teams so no one does better that msciz. If the matchup on sciz dont look to good means that gravity eq spam its amazing, thats some sinergy that made me pick this mon as the glue on the team. You can replace koff with bug bite or even safeguard (yes im not kidding).

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy lets revive ndss!

https://pokepast.es/813c357b17181d8f

This is a team based around specs blace that is supported with para and harzards as well as good piviots.

Blacephalon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Overheat

First off is blace. Why specs and Modest? well thats cause without both blace misses out on kos like lando T after rocks with fire blast also with 2 twave mons speed isnt as big as an issue. Why 3 fire moves? well thats because blace hits so hard with tera fire that shadow ball is the only coverage it really needs so having a reliable flamethrower, a spamable hard hitting overheat, and a needed fire blast to pick up kos flamethrower cant is very helpful this allows blace to function as a win con and do reliable damage every time it switches in.

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 204 HP / 252 Def / 52 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Defog
- Toxic

Lando T aside from being the best mon in the tier works well on this team as a fogger, pivot, and a reliable physical tank and switch in. I picked lando over other foggers such as zap and gliscor as i find the extreme physical bulk, intimidate, and typing are incredibly useful on the team.

Samurott-Hisui @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Razor Shell
- Knock Off
- Flip Turn

Samurott works as a 2 in one as a hazard setter and a speed control mon. Spikes helps its teammates primary mega diancie and blace pick up kills that they normally could not as well as punishing switching by the opponent. However the main reason i choose samurott over other spike setters is its speed when scarfed this allows for a fast pivot mon that can reliably outspeed multiple mons and switch out with flip turn and can even act as a wincon.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Impish Nature
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

On top of being a really good stealth rock setter ferro is also amazing at spreading paralysis this alone makes ferro a vital part of the team as it can nuetralize scarf threats such as lele so that diancie and blace can sweep later in the game. Ferros typing also fits very well on this team providing a good switch in to threats like mega maw koko and others as well as countering most rain teams. on top of this progressive damage can be done to punish physical attackers with iron barbs and rocky helmet.

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 28 Atk / 228 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Mystical Fire
- Earth Power

Diancie is an amazing fit for this team as it takes advantage of hazards picking up on kills it normally misses. It appreciates para spam being able to beat scarf mons easier. However diance is extremly useful on a hazard team as it provides magic bounce to prevent opposing hazard stack and can even deny defog in its base form due to clear body. Mega diancie works as the perfect wall breaker, endgame sweeper, win con, and denier on this team.

Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
- Chilly Reception
- Thunder Wave

Glowking is the perfect special tank for a blace team. This is due to its outstanding special bulk acting as a reliable switch in. Thunder wave is an amazing move to spam on this team as previously stated. However glowking is especially good on this team as it functions as one of the best pivots in the game checking rain and pressuring with future sight.

So yeh that's my team enjoy i had a lot of fun making it prob didn't do the best describing it but ty for reading (:

I always feared the raw power from Specs Blacephalon so I decided to make that set the basis of this build. Since Specs Blacephalon tends to be hella prediction reliant, I thought Will-O-Wisp would be a cool twist to the standard set since it's a great mid-ground move to punish potential switch-ins like Mega Tyranitar and punishing Sucker Punch users like Mega Mawile and Bisharp. Mega Diancie also serves as a nice partner to avoid hazards and can help overload Blacephalon hard checks like Spdef Heatran, Chansey and Toxapex. Tapu Fini is a bit of an anti-synergy with Wisp Blacephalon but that is targeting a specific matchup in Mega Tyranitar, one that Fini is not super necessary in. Fini itself makes for a nice Weavile and Ash-Greninja check while also benefitting from Blacephalon's wallbreaking by freely setting up after an annoying Mega Scizor or Ferrothorn has been removed. Landorus is also a nice addition to this team to act as a Mega Lopunny soft check with Fini as well as be an emergency Defogger and check to an out of control Mega Mawile or Mega Charizard X. Rocky Helmet Ferrothorn also shores up those sucky matchups while also giving me a solid switch in to Tapu Lele, Gliscor, and Rillaboom. Rocky Helmet helps to punish faster foes like Scarf Kartana and Mega Lopunny so they're easier to wear down long term. Also synergizes well with Fini since it can freely abuse Slowbro and Toxapex with liile punishment. Weavile as the last slot acts as the cleaner while also helping keep SD Gliscor, Garchomp, and Rillaboom managable.

i am back to plague natdex and RoA forums. herein is my mega scizor + blacephalon + weavile tricore of offense with a dual defog team -- although this time the defog combo is not fini/lando, but serp/lando. i'm running 3a off sciz because it's cool and a fun mixup, just like ghost z blace. admittedly, calm mind or scarf blace would be about as effective, but sometimes it just feels good to be +1 speed without being choice locked and without needing to EV for a speed beast boost. pretty standard otherwise. EVs and fini/serp can be changed pretty easily. cheers.
:blacephalon:is a mixup as mentioned
:scizor-mega:is EVd for 223 speed heatran although i've seen more speed on msciz
:serperior:is our support, and has a fun interaction of defogging away misty terrain so it can glare stuff (fog fini is standard for this team archetype though)
:tapu-fini:is the stallbreaker
:landorus-therian:is the:tapu-koko:and:charizard-mega-y:check along with being a general beast cuz it's scarf lando
:weavile:needs no explanation

PS i promise i had this idea in mind before runo posted. it's actually pretty much a rip of an old team from PKS that had mixed scarf kyurem over weavile... so... yeah i copied someone, but it wasn't runo! :tymp:

Damn R8, you left and now you came back as the whole ass tier, smh. (Gzs on tier leader, broski!) Well, I have awoken from my slumber and I'm ready to rumble, now featuring Tspikes Speedboosting Specs Blace as my submission. I'm very aware It's been well over a month (over 2 now, wow) since the deadline, but what better way to remind people of our rocking tier and it's projects than with a submission.

Right off the bat I'm gonna confess that this build is purely theory crafted, but posted anyways 'cause... tbh why not. We all know Specs Blace can go ballistic-animalistic, so its not to be messed with. The core idea of this squad is to put what would be Blace's checks on a timer. Weavile and MTtar are already prone to hazards, and Blace's common switchins (that aren't Heatran and Pex, that's what the knock spam is for) really dont wanna be coming into Tspikes.

I chose Speedsboost Specs Blace for two reasons, 1. on paper Blace's checks will be widdled down enough for it to not miss out on important ranges and effectively clean a weakend team since speed will not be an issue, 2. it was the only way I could think of making my Blace stound out, especially after sh0shin's and runo's subs (apart from going tspikes + hex but... this thing doesn't get hex. realized it too late).

:blacephalon: - main breaker of the squad. standard evs for speedbosting, and standard moveset cuz, as i already mentioned, i honestly built this whole thing confident this thing got hex... it doesn't.

:scizor-mega: - evs are an optimized spread from gen9ndou that allow it to stomach lele's stabs a bit better since otherwise this team folds to it. i went with the 2atk route since heatran and pex can become a slight problem and i want to immediately get rid of them or heavily dent them enough to where blace can pick them off.

:tapu-koko: - speed control, and it forms a pretty good offensive core with the former two. it can overload the grounds that would potentially keep themselves healthy in order to check blace, and offensively check weavile and ashgren that would otherwise delete blace in a heart beat.

:gliscor: - i defaulted to lando until i realized i need a more sturdy tran s/i, and a rocker with more longevity since blace can get ezly overwhelmed.

:kartana: - grassium kart has to be my fav second kart set, and its pretty good here since apart from staving off the grounds.

:toxapex: - finally, where else am i going to get the tspikes from, and it rounds up the defensive core pretty nicely. knock off pex is super annoying.

Hey everyone, first of all I'd like to apologize on behalf of Boomenheimer for being such a lazy sack and keeping this project on Hiatus. Thanks Boomenheimer!

But in all honesty, I apologize for keeping this project dead. It was my responsibility and although my co-host was about as useful as a +6 Shuckle (jk), in the end it was my fault and I'm here to get this going again.

Anyways, I'd first like to thank both Zeo1 and TriTheGuy for submitting a Volcarona team for week 10! Since my co-host rudely decided to skip the voting period for the Volcarona cycle, I'm going to award @TriTheGuy 's Specs Volcarona team a spot on the hall of fame because Zeo already is on the hall of fame it's heat!

And now.. Finally for the voting cycle everyone's been waiting for..

Voting is now LIVE! Vote for your favorite Blacephalon team by Wednesday, October 9th at 11:59 PM GMT-6! Can you believe it's been 6 months since the last vote?!

Team A: Nasty Setup Blacephalon by Mrbanana45

Team B: (INSANE TECH) Will-o-wisp Choice Specs Blacephalon by Runo

Please refer here on how the voting system works. From now on, if a cycle does not meet enough teams for competition by the end of its submission date, it will be extended by a week until the quota is met.
