[SET COMMENTS]
Gengar is a powerful revenge killer on Ghost teams due to its high Special Attack and potent movepool. Sludge Bomb picks off weakened Fairy- and Grass-types such as Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and Zarude. Focus Blast takes down Steel- and Dark-types, such as Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Tyranitar. Dazzling Gleam is also a more accurate way to nail Dark-types, and it hits certain ones like Hydreigon and Galarian Moltres better. A Choice Scarf allows it to outspeed threats such as Choice Scarf Zarude, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and Dragon Dance Tyranitar, making it one of the best revenge killers for Ghost-type teams.
Gengar has a unique role in absorbing Toxic Spikes, as Ghost teams don't have reliable entry hazard removal to prevent teammates like Galarian Corsola and Mimikyu from being worn down. Galarian Corsola takes on and burns physical attackers such as Excadrill and Zeraora, and it softens up the opposing team for Gengar by setting Stealth Rock. Bulky foes such as Toxapex and Gastrodon can be pressured by Calm Mind Spectrier, which can also spread burns with Will-O-Wisp, wearing down special walls like Drapion and Celesteela. Swords Dance Aegislash deals with Hatterene and Clefable, and it appreciates Gengar removing fast threats such as Zarude and Hydreigon for it. Mimikyu can beat Sucker Punch users like Bisharp and removes Dark-types such as Galarian Moltres, which pose a threat to Gengar and its teammates. Setting Spikes, Froslass helps wear down Pokemon like Toxapex and Heatran to allow Gengar to sweep late-game. Dragapult can handle troublesome Dragon-types like Kyurem and Garchomp, as well as pressuring Volcarona, which can use Gengar as setup fodder.

Other Options
=============
Ghost
--------
Gengar can run Energy Ball to heavily damage Ground-types such as Gastrodon and Hippowdon, or Thunderbolt to damage Flying- and Water-types such as Toxapex and Corviknight, but Focus Blast and Dazzling Gleam are preferred; these cover Ghost's natural weakness to Dark, hitting super effectively against targets like Tyranitar and Hydreigon. Will-O-Wisp + Hex can be used alongside Black Sludge or Life Orb to let Gengar lure in physical attackers; however, this set faces competition from Spectrier. Trick is another option to debilitate specially defensive walls like Blissey and Mantine that come in on Gengar, but the reduced coverage from running it is significant.
