Glalie Preview (Singles)

[OVERVIEW]

With a certain amount of luck, Glalie is a threatening sweeper in the Battle Spot Singles metagame. It is gifted with the ability Moody, which has a chance to increase its Speed, bulk, evasion, or power every passing turn, allowing the snowball to easily snowball out of control given the opportunity. Access to Sheer Cold allows Glalie to threaten most foes with an OHKO, especially with Moody allowing it multiple chances to fire them off. Ice-type STAB moves allow it to threaten Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Landorus-T, and Garchomp, while it can also threaten Water-types with Freeze Dry. While its base stats may not be impressive, they are just enough for Glalie to, for instance, set up a Substitute on fast Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele after a boost to its Speed. This also allows it to setup Substitute more easily against defensive teams, which often contain Pokemon slower than Glalie.

Unfortunately for Glalie, it is often hard countered by bulky Ice-types, which resist its STAB moves and are immune to Sheer Cold due to the move's new mechanics. A lackluster singular Ice-typing leaves it with no useful resistances and weaknesses to premier offensive types such as Steel-, Fire-, Rock-, and Fighting-types. A weakness to Stealth Rock and no reliable recovery additionally means that Glalie cannot switch in and out often. Finally, while Moody is a godsend for this Pokemon, it has the chance of backfiring on Glalie, lowering a stat that may be crucial to winning a match or boosting a stat that it doesn't care about, such as Attack. All one needs is a bit of luck and team support and Glalie can plow through almost anything.

Below are some sample sets. These sets are likely to be standard, but they will be expanded upon and updated as the metagame progresses.

[SET]

[SET COMMENTS]

* With access to Moody, Glalie becomes a serious threat, easily beating opposing Pokemon when given the correct boosts. A combination of Protect and Substitute allows Glalie to more consistantly fish for boosts while protecting it from Z Moves and status effects.
* Sheer Cold is borked af
* Freeze Dry vs. Waters
* Frost Breath for more consistent damage
* EVs + timid nature
* Moody
* Lefties
* when to use
* Steel-types deal with ice/rock/steel moves
* Heatran also deals with fire
* Speed Control (ie Twave/Glare)
* Phys def mons
* Secondary sweeper (if moody goes haywire)
* Protect + sub is predictable, so something to check setup sweepers really helps

Hey Feesh, just curious, would you be willing to update this to be a full analysis, or would you rather someone else do that?
