Gloom serves as a reliable defensive option in PU due to it possessing solid defenses, superb typing, and access to Strength Sap which lets it check some of PU's strongest physical attackers such as Leafeon, Stonjourner, Falinks, and Throh. Strength Sap provides valuable utility, weakening physical attackers while alloting Gloom a source of recovery. The fourth moveslot is flexible and imparts extra utility for Gloom and its teammates. Sleep Powder serves as a method of punishing switch-ins from Steel-types such as Pawniard and Mawile while Synthesis bestows a more reliable mean of recovery that does not activate Defiant from Falinks and Pawniard. Growth is a notable mention that empowers Gloom's damage output, letting it better pressure opposing Fighting-types.

Gloom finds itself on balanced teams that appreciate its general defensive utility and ability to absorb Toxic Spikes. Psychic-types such as Mr. Rime, Beheeyem, and Meowstic-F can threaten Gloom with their STAB moves; checks such as specially defensive Mawile, Pawniard, Klang, and Type: Null are appreciated. The aforementioned Steel-types synergize well with Gloom, resisting Ice- and Psychic-types that threaten it while Gloom can check opposing Fighting-types for them. Opposing Steel-types such as Mawile, Klang, and Pawniard limit Gloom's effectiveness, with Pawniard getting a Defiant boost if switching into a potential Strength Sap from Gloom. Fire- and Fighting-types such as Heatmor, Carkol, Falinks, and Throh provide measures against those Steel-types. Checks to Fire-types such as Mareanie and Palpitoad are helpful; in return, Gloom can pressure opposing Grass-types such as Leafeon and Shiinotic. Setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Silvally-Rock, Swords Dance Silvally-Ice, Nasty Plot Mr. Rime, and No Retreat Falinks appreciate Gloom putting checks such as Mawile to sleep, allowing them to set up and sweep. Silvally-Rock, Silvally-Ice, and Falinks also benefit from Gloom removing Toxic Spikes, improving their longevity. Entry hazard removal from the likes of Mr. Rime and Vibrava prevent Gloom from being worn down by residual damage.

Gloom serves as one of PU's premier (kinda an overstatement) defensive Pokemon due to it possessing solid defenses, superb typing, and access to Strength Sap which lets it check some of PU's strongest physical attackers such as Leafeon, Stonjourner, Falinks, and Throh. Strength Sap provides valuable utility, weakening physical attackers while alloting Gloom a source of recovery. The fourth moveslot is flexible and imparts extra utility for Gloom and its teammates. Leech Seed grants additional recovery and wears down opposing foes, allowing Gloom to weaken Steel-types such as Mawile and Pawniard and RestTalk users such as Gothitelle and Throh. Alternatively, Toxic can be utilized to cripple bulky switch-ins such as Musharna, Type:Null, and Carkoal, (mention synthesis; it's a more reliably means of recovery that allows u to not lose to falinks, or even give a boost to pawniard) while Sleep Powder serves a less reliable way of punishing switch-ins from the aforementioned Steel-types. (well, both mawile and pawniard dislike getting put to sleep more)

Gloom finds itself on balanced teams that appreciate its general defensive utility and ability to absorb Toxic Spikes. Psychic-types such as Mr. Rime, Beheeyem, and Meowstic-F can threaten Gloom with a powerful Psychic; (replace by "their STAB moves") checks such as specially defensive Mawile, Pawniard, and Silvally-Bug are appreciated. (mention klang and type: null too) Steel-types such as Mawile, Klang, and Pawniard limit Gloom's effectiveness, with Pawniard getting a Defiant boost if switching into a potential Strength Sap from Gloom. Fire- and Fighting-types such as Heatmor, Carkol, Falinks, and Throh provide measures against those Steel-types. In return, Gloom can check Water- and Fairy-types such as Palpitoad, Basculin, and Shiinotic, respectively. Setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Silvally formes, Nasty Plot Mr. Rime, and No Retreat Falinks appreciate Gloom weakening shared checks such as Mawile and Musharna with Leech Seed, allowing them to set up and sweep. (u cant really weaken musharna with leech seed though. mention they appreciate gloom putting stuff to sleep for them)(silvallies and falinks also appreciate gloom getting rid of tspikes)

put more emphasis on steel-types being good partners; they share formidable type synergy for the most part and appreciate gloom switching into threatening fighting-types.
mention switchins to fire-types, and what gloom does in exchange
mention rapid spin / defog support; a lack of passive recovery like leftovers or an ability like regen means gloom is pretty susceptible to entry hazards
