[SET COMMENTS]

With a great defensive typing, access to Taunt, and reliable recovery, Golbat makes for an excellent stallbreaker. Additionally, it has excellent walling capabilities, checking common Pokemon such as Tangela, Thwackey, Gurdurr, and Raboot. Super Fang lets Golbat deal reliable damage to bulkier foes such as Koffing, Ferroseed, and Metang. Taunt lets Golbat prevent Clefairy and Mareanie from recovering health and setting entry hazards. Brave Bird is a strong STAB move that threatens 2HKOs on common setup sweepers like Thwackey and Gurdurr, and it finishes off walls that have been weakened by Super Fang. Infiltrator lets Golbat bypass Substitutes of Rufflet and Lampent. With 84 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature, Golbat outspeeds Adamant Thwackey and Jolly Fraxure.

Golbat works best when paired with sweepers like Thwackey, Electabuzz, and Magmar, which benefit from its ability to break down walls with Super Fang. Golbat is able to check physical sweepers, so it is a good idea to pair it with specially defensive walls like Mareanie and Clefairy that can switch into attacks from Magmar and Electabuzz, respectively. Checks to Kadabra and Galarian Mr. Mime such as Ferroseed, Galarian Corsola, and Klang are also appreciated. Pikachu and Electabuzz outspeed Golbat and threaten it out with their STAB moves, so Ground-types such as Piloswine, Marshtomp, and Gabite make for great partners, having the added benefit of providing Stealth Rock. Pokemon with entry hazard control such as Gurdurr, Hattrem, and Wartortle address Golbat's Stealth Rock weakness.

move 3: U-turn / Toxic
move 4: Brave Bird
item: Eviolite
ability: Infiltrator
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Golbat's solid defensive typing forces switches, giving it many opportunities to use Defog. U-turn lets Golbat keep up momentum on expected switch-ins such as Mareanie and Klang, while Toxic cripples entry hazard setters like Galarian Corsola and Piloswine that it would otherwise be unable to break past.

Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock like Magmar, Lampent, and Galarian Mr. Mime benefit the most from Defog. The former two also appreciate Golbat's ability to pivot them in safely while also luring in Steel-types like Metang and Klang. Pivots such as Thwackey and Pikachu also benefit from the hazard removal that Golbat provides and can form a solid VoltTurn core with Golbat. Shell Smash Wartortle can act as secondary entry hazard removal and benefits from Golbat's ability to reliably check Grass-types like Thwackey and Roselia. Special walls like Ferroseed and Marshtomp check Psychic-types and Electric-types, respectively.

move 3: Heat Wave
move 4: Roost / Giga Drain
item: Eviolite

nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot and a wide movepool let Golbat pose as a menacing wallbreaker and sweeper. Air Slash 2HKOes common Grass- and Fighting-types such as Thwackey, Tangela, and Gurdurr. Heat Wave nails Ferroseed as well as doing solid damage to other Steel-types, which often resist Golbat's Air Slash. Roost provides Golbat with recovery and lets it set up multiple times against passive Pokemon such as Clefairy and Galarian Corsola. Alternatively, Giga Drain targets Thick Fat Piloswine.

Golbat should avoid setting up until faster Psychic-types have been removed, namely Kadabra and Galarian Mr. Mime, as they can all revenge kill it easily. Dark- and Steel-types such as Klang and Galarian Linoone help to keep these Pokemon in check. Physical wallbreakers like Fraxure and Thwackey make for great partners, as they break past specially defensive walls such as Mareanie and Galarian Corsola that would give Golbat trouble, with the latter also having access to Knock Off to weaken foes. Stealth Rock and Spikes users like Galarian Corsola and Ferroseed provide important chip damage for Golbat to clean teams. Entry hazard removal from Wartortle or Galarian Mr. Mime is also important, as this lets Golbat avoid being OHKOed by Piloswine's Icicle Crash and Choice Band Raboot's Flare Blitz, and it is vital for Golbat variants without Roost.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thief is a decent option if Golbat is the main Knock Off switch-in, but this often requires giving up useful utility in Defog or Taunt. Acrobatics can be used instead of Brave Bird and lacks recoil damage, but it requires Golbat to lose its Eviolite, so it is less preferred. 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe is a fast specially defensive spread that Golbat can opt for with a Jolly nature in order to check Gastly and Lampent at the cost of being more vulnerable to physical attackers such as Raboot.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electabuzz can revenge kill Golbat and cripple physical variants of Golbat with Static. Pikachu cannot always switch in to Golbat but threatens it out with Volt Switch.

**Psychic-types**: Galarian Mr. Mime and Kadabra both outspeed Golbat and can KO it with Psychic once its Eviolite has been removed. Hattrem and Duosion are bulky enough to switch in and are also able to threaten Golbat out with their STAB attacks.

**Wallbreakers**: Choice Band Lairon, Choice Band Raboot, and Choice Specs Magmar can break past Golbat with their powerful STAB moves. However, with the exception of Lairon, these Pokemon cannot switch into Golbat's attacks safely.

**Residual Damage and Knock Off**: Stealth Rock reduces Golbat's longevity, limiting its opportunities to switch in and forcing it to use Roost more often. Golbat often has to switch into Knock Off from Pokemon such as Tangela and Gurdurr, making it more susceptible to being worn down long term.

**Status**: Mareanie and Magmar can cripple Golbat with burns, which limit the damage output of physical variants. Sleep and paralysis from Ivysaur, Tangela, and Electabuzz make Golbat an easy target for revenge killers.

Golbat works best when paired with sweepers like Thwackey, Krokorok, and Combusken, which benefit from its ability to break down walls with Super Fang Our only Krokorok set is an offensive Rocks setter; swap this with Electabuzz or Magmar or something imo. Might also be best to swap out Combusken because let's be real that thing might not be above B- for much longer. Coversely, Golbat is able to check physical sweepers so it is a good idea to pair Golbat with specially defensive walls like Mareanie and Clefairy "Conversely" roughly means "on the other hand". as this isn't directly opposing the idea of Golbat working with cleaners/sweepers it's not being used correctly here. Also, say why you want to run SpDef walls (e.g. to cover attackers like Magmar and Electabuzz). Pikachu and Electabuzz outspeed Golbat and threaten it out with Volt Switch Worth replacing "Volt Switch" with Electric STABs with Electabuzz being mentioned here. Also worth noting Golbat only takes 50% from Electabuzz's Volt Switch so you can just kinda scout it and roost sometimes, so Ground-types such as Piloswine, Marshtomp, and Gabite make for great partners, having the added benefit of providing Stealth Rock. Pokemon with entry hazard control such as Gurdurr, Hattrem, and Wartortle make up for Golbat's Stealth Rock weakness.

Golbat's solid defensive typing forces many switch-ins giving it many opportunities to use Defog to clear away entry hazards. U-turn lets Golbat keep up momentum on expected switch-ins such as Electabuzz and Piloswine, while Toxic cripples these Pokemon on the switch, as well as bulkier walls like Galarian Corsola that Golbat would otherwise be unable to break past. Replace Electabuzz with Mareanie or something. Static as a deterrent means you're usually better off double switching than going for U-turn in any situation where you expect Electabuzz to come in.

Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock like Magmar, Lampent, and Galarian Mr. Mime benefit the most from Defog. The former two also appreciate Golbat's ability pivot them in safely while also luring Steel-types like?. Pivots such as Raboot and Pikachu also benefit from the hazard removal that Golbat provides and can form a solid VoltTurn core with Golbat Raboot typically runs HDB so hazards aren't a huge concern; maybe Thwackey instead?. Shell Smash Wartortle benefits from Golbat's ability to reliably check Grass-types like Thwackey, Tangela, and Roselia. I'd focus more on Wartortle's ability to serve as backup hazard removal here, especially when it doesn't care about most variants of Tangela (and generally isn't setting up vs Roselia teams until it's been weakened anyway)

Thief is a decent option of Golbat is the main Knock Off switch-in, but this often requires giving up useful utility in Defog or Taunt. Acrobatic can be used instead of Brave Bird and lacks recoil damage, but requires Golbat to lose its Eviolite in order to reach its maximum power so it is less preferred. mention the spdef set (creeps timid gastly) for allowing you to check gastly & lampent at the cost of being more vulnerable to physical mons like raboot

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster threats**: Electabuzz, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Kadabra outspeed Golbat and threaten Golbat out with their STAB attacks. Pokemon with super effective coverage moves such as Magmar and Drakloak can also revenge kill Golbat with some prior chip. would like to see special mention of static buzz crippling physical variants of bat here

might be better to separate the above into "electric-types" and "psychic-types" if only because hattrem kinda owns golbat too and i think pika is worth mentioning as a softcheck

**Steel-types**: Metang and Lairon resist Brave Bird and can threaten Golbat with Zen Headbutt and Head Smash respectively, but dislike switching into Super Fang. Honedge is a reliable check to defensive Golbat sets as it is immune to Super Fang but its poor special bulk means Nasty Plot Golbat can break past it with Heat Wave.

**Residual Damage**: Stealth Rock and burns reduce Golbat's longevity, limiting its opportunities to switch in and forcing it to Roost more often. burns should probably be on a new line here with examples listed, ideally ones not crippled by taunt (e.g. mareanie, magmar)

Brave Bird is a strong STAB move which that threatens 2HKOs on common setup sweepers like Thwackey and Gurdurr, and is used to finish off walls which it finishes off walls that have been weakened by Super Fang.

Golbat is able to check physical sweepers, (AC) so it is a good idea to pair Golbat it with specially defensive walls like Mareanie and Clefairy (RC) that can switch into attacks from Magmar and Electabuzz, (AC) respectively. Pokemon with entry hazard control such as Gurdurr, Hattrem, and Wartortle make up for address Golbat's Stealth Rock weakness.

name: Defog
move 1: Defog
move 2: Roost
move 3: U-turn / Toxic
move 4: Brave Bird
item: Eviolite
ability: Infiltrator
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Golbat's solid defensive typing forces switches, giving it many opportunities to use Defog. U-turn lets Golbat keep up momentum on expected switch-ins such as Mareanie and Klang, while Toxic cripples entry hazard setters like Galarian Corsola and Piloswine that Golbat it would otherwise be unable to break past.

Special walls like Ferroseed and Marshtomp check Psychic-types and Electric-types, (AC) respectively.

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Heat Wave
move 4: Roost / Giga Drain
item: Eviolite
ability: Infiltrator
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Access to Nasty Plot and a wide movepool lets Golbat pose as a menacing wallbreaker and sweeper. Air Slash 2HKOes common Grass- and Fighting-types such as Thwackey, Tangela, and Gurdurr. Heat Wave nails Ferroseed as well as doing solid damage to other Steel-types, (AC) which often (or similar word to "often", or instead "...damage to Steel-types that resist...") resist Golbat's Air Slash. Roost provides Golbat with recovery and lets it set up multiple times against passive Pokemon such as Clefairy and Galarian Corsola. Alternatively, Giga Drain targets Thick Fat Piloswine.

Golbat should avoid setting up until faster Psychic-types (added hyphen) have been removed, namely Kadabra and Galarian Mr. Mime, (AC) as they can all revenge kill it easily. Dark- and Steel-types such as Klang and Galarian Linoone help to keep these Pokemon in check. Physical wallbreakers like Fraxure and Thwackey make for great partners, (AC) as they break past specially defensive walls such as Mareanie and Galarian Corsola that would give Golbat trouble, with the latter also having access to Knock Off to weaken foes. Stealth Rock and Spikes users like Galarian Corsola and Ferroseed make for good partners as they provide important chip damage for Golbat to clean teams. Entry hazard removal from Wartortle or Galarian Mr. Mime is also important, (AC) as this lets Golbat avoid being OHKOed by Piloswine's Icicle Crash and Choice Band Raboot's Flare Blitz, and it is vital for Golbat variants (removed apostrophe) without Roost.

Other Options
=============

Thief is a decent option of if Golbat is the main Knock Off switch-in, but this often requires giving up useful utility in Defog or Taunt. Acrobatics can be used instead of Brave Bird and lacks recoil damage, but it requires Golbat to lose its Eviolite, (AC) in order to reach its maximum power so it is less preferred. 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe and a Jolly nature is a fast specially defensive spread that Golbat can opt for with a Jolly nature in order to check Gastly and Lampent at the cost of being more vulnerable to physical attackers such as Raboot.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electabuzz can revenge kill Golbat and cripple physical variants of Golbat can be crippled by Electabuzz's with Static. Pikachu cannot always switch in to Golbat but threatens it out with Volt Switch.

**Psychic-types**: Galarian Mr. Mime and Kadabra both outspeed Golbat and can KO Golbat it with Psychic once its Eviolite has been removed. Hattrem (RC) and Duosion are bulky enough to switch in and are also able to threaten Golbat out with their STAB attacks.

Golbat often has to switch into Knock Off from Pokemon such as Tangela or and Gurdurr, (AC) making it more susceptible to being worn down long term.

**Status**: Mareanie and Magmar can cripple Golbat with burns, which limits to limit the damage output of physical variants. Sleep and paralysis from Ivysaur, Tangela, and Electabuzz make Golbat an easy target for revenge killers.
