[Overview]

Despite its average stats, typing, and movepool, Gorebyss remains one of RU's top offensive threats. Gorebyss's claim to fame in the 5th generation is that it is one of three pokemon with the combination of Shell Smash and Baton Pass. This combination makes Gorebyss a threat every team must consider if it doesn't want to be swept. Gorebyss can use these moves to sweep on its own or pass the boosts to a teammate who is better suited to sweep. Gorebyss can also make use of its ability Swift Swim to sweep under rain as well. However, Gorebyss's sweeping abilities are hindered by both its poor defenses and pitiful speed. After Shell Smash's defense drop, Gorebyss's less than average defenses make very easy for it to be revenged. On top of this, even at +2 speed, Gorebyss is still outsped by many common Choice Scarf users in RU, such as Primeape. So long as you prevent Gorebyss from setting up, these weaknesses make Gorebyss quite easy to handle.

[SET]
name: Smashpass
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Surf
move 4: Substitute
item: White Herb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This sets makes use of Gorebyss's niche as one of three pokemon with access to both Shell Smash and Baton Pass. Shell Smash raises you attack, speciall attack, and speed by two stages, something any member of your team would appreciate. The only downside to using Shell Smash is the fact that it lowers your defenses by one stage each. This is remedied by the use of White Herb however, which restored any decrease in your stats. Baton Pass is necessary on this set, as Baton Passing is what Gorebyss does best. Surf is used so Gorebyss isn't complete taunt bait, and a +2 surf off a strong attack stat is going to hurt even with no investment in EVs. Substitute is used in the last slot as a means to set up a protected Shell Smash or to make sure the recipient of these boosts isn't maimed by an attack as you use Baton Pass. The given EVs give Gorebyss a bit of bulk, while providing plenty of speed to outspeed the opponent after you have used Shell Smash.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set is fairly straightforward, but there are still a few other options Gorebyss has. A coverage move such as Ice Beam or Hidden Power can be used over Surf to surprise something, but Surf is almost always preferred. In addition, you can shift the speed EVs to defense and change the nature to Bold. This allows Gorebyss to make use of its decent defense stat to help it set up Shell Smash.

- if dual screens are up, you are basically guranteed at least one shell smash
- can use Ice Beam or a hidden power in the last moveslot, but surf is more reliable
- you can opt for a bulkier ev spread by adding the speed evs to either defense or special defense

[SET]
name: Shell Smash Sweeper
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidder Power Fire / Hidder Power Grass
item: Life Orb / White Herb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Timid / Modest
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- can sweep teams without passing the boosts from shell smash
- surf for strong, reliable damage
- ice beam to beat grass types
- hidden power fire is for ferroseed and snover, while grass is for quagsire
- life orb for much more power, white herb if you don't want to be easily revenged

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- still fairly slow, as it fails to outspeed base 90s with a choice scarf
- hydro pump can be used over surf to make up for the loss in power if you chose white herb
- use modest if using gorebyss on a rain team, or if you just want the extra power

[SET]
name: Rain Dance Sweeper
move 1: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hidder Power Grass
move 4: Rain Dance
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Modest
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- rain dance is a very viable option in ru
- gorebyss is one of the premier swift swim abusers
- surf for reliable damage
- hydro pump has insane power in the rain, but you take the risk of missing by using it
- ice beam for grass types
- hp grass hits bulky waters such as blastoise, who otherwise wall this set
- rain dance to summon rain again once it has ended
- life orb for maximum damage

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- obviously use with a teamate who sets up rain dance
- hidden power fire or fighting can be used to hit snover and ferroseed for super effective damage

[Other Options]

- Psychic and Shadow Ball are cool moves, but don't really have much use
- Gorebyss doesn't have many support moves to make use of

[Checks and Counters]

- Either Snover, Ferroseed, or a bulky water will wall you depending on your hidden power type
- Careful 252/252 eviolite Munchlax isn't 2HKOd by a +2 modest life orb surf (if my calculations are correct)
- most common choice scarf users outspeed a +2 gorebyss, such as primape and manectric

HP Fire feels far too redundant on the rain sweeper set. You might as well just go for HP Fighting, as it has the same power against both Eviolite threats under rain (although HP Fire is superior against Snover in hail, he can't really do anything back except Leech Seed, same as Ferroseed) and has a little bit more utility against other mons, and is SE against random shit like Walrein and Lapras, who wall every gorebyss with HP Fire. If Snover and Ferroseed are such a cause for paranoia, you might as well slash HP Fighting on the other sets as well. HP Fire is useless under rain.

Ultimately though, I feel like Grass should generally be the superior choice, especially on that set, but probably on the others too. If you're using Gorebyss, your team should be able to handle Ferroseed.

I'd actually slash Hydro Pump next to Surf on the Rain Dance set just because it absolutely obliterates shit in the rain and gets a nice 2HKO on Mandibuzz and deals just a little bit more to that fatass Munchlax (38.68 - 45.49% with Hydro Pump and 30.65 - 36% with Surf), missing sucks but I'd say it's worth it every once in a while.
