[OVERVIEW]

  • Speed tier that puts it above all Scarfed and +1 Speed Pokemon, as well as Rain Kingdra.
  • Strong Electric attacks that put a lot of pressure on any non resist. Its signature move in Thunder Cage lets it stand out from other Electric-types like Thundurus.
  • Thunder Cage allows it to trap would be pivots like Tangrowth and Amoonguss, and SubTect cycle them to induce further damage. In particular with Stealth Rock up, this lets it completely remove an Amoonguss, while leaving Tangrowth with a severe HP defecit even after Regenerator.
  • Regieleki is a dangerous offensive presence when not facing Ground-types; unfortunately most teams do actually have them and it cannot do a single thing into them by itself.
  • Regieleki's viability in most matchups hinges on its teammates succesully supporting it by statusing Ground-types like Rhyperior and Krookodile, as the only way it has to beat them is to stall them out with SubTect.
  • Regieleki is therefore severely limited in terms of the teams it fits on, requiring that it is specifically built around with teammates like Toxic Moltres, and requires teammates that can also make up for matchups where the Ground-type is unlikely to be status'd, due to teammates like Chansey or Natural Cure Starmie being used as the main Status absorbers.
  • Regieleki can also struggle into matchups against Nidoking, a Toxic immune Ground-type, and matchups where the opponent has more reliable methods of status sponging against Pokemon like Moltres or against Toxic Spikes, such as Chansey, which it cannot beat unless two layers of Toxic Spikes are down and it doesn't have Teleport.

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1

  • Regieleki can set up Substitute against switch-ins to would be checks like Rhyperior and Assault Vest Tangrowth, after which it can stall out Toxic and/or Thunder Cage damage with the combination of Substitute + Protect.
  • Thunder Cage is Regieleki's main STAB move, and lets it trap switch-ins like Tangrowth and Amoonguss, and stall out the trapping damage.
  • Volt Switch lets Regieleki pivot against would be counters like Teleport Chansey, get guaranteed chip damage on targets it can't beat one versus one such as Nihilego, and gives Regieleki an option to add further damage to the end of its Thunder Cage trapping combination versus the aforementioned bulky Grass-types with Regenerator, by using it on the 4th turn of Trapping damage if it is unlikely that they can be KO'd, ensuring they take maximum damage before Regenerator.
  • Leftovers is used to give Regieleki passive restoration while using Substitute + Protect.
  • Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature lets Regieleki outspeed threats like Kingdra under Rain, and +2 Speed Gyarados.

Paragraph 2

  • Teammates that reliably spread status are incredibly important to Regieleki's success. Offensive support Moltres is an incredible partner, Toxic'ing Rhyperior, Burning Krookodile with Flame Body, checking Zarude and Amoonguss, and offering Pivot support against Pokemon like Primarina and Nihilego. Toxic Aegislash is another effective teammate that can status Krookodile and Umbreon, Close Combat versions in particular are highly effective at luring Teleport Chansey, which is otherwise a fairly large problem to Regeleki.
  • Tentacruel can offer Rapid Spin support to Regeleki, helping it retain more of its HP for Substitutes. It can also pressure Ground-types like Nidoqueen and non-Choice Scarf Krookodile, while offering Toxic Spikes support to Regieleki. Even in matchups against Grounded Poison-types like Amoonguss and Nihilego, Regieleki can still use these to force progress if it is able to force them to switch in to absorb Toxic Spikes, after which it can trap them for considerable damage.
  • Strong defensive checks to Ground-types like Rhyperior and Krookodile are advisable so as to not rely solely on status support. Zarude is a fantastic option that can also give Regieleki opportunities to set up substitues versus Moltres and Moltres-Galar with U-turn to make up for Regieleki's abysmal bulk.
  • Seismitoad and Primarina can assist Regieleki by Burning Tangrowth and Amoonguss with Scald, massively increasing the total damage they take when trapped by Regieleki. Seismitoad can also assist by Knocking Off Amoonguss's Black Sludge and Zarude's Heavy Duty Boots, while providing Stealth Rock, while Primarina can provide a reliable switch-in and defensive check to Pokemon like Keldeo to take pressure off of Regieleki.
  • Despite its blistering speed, Regieleki cannot reliably revenge kill Meteor Beam Nihilego unless it is severely chipped due to its solid Special Defense. Teammates like the aforementioned specially defensive Aegislash, as well as Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro can help Regieleki with this issue. The latter can also help provide a pivot into offensive Water-types like Keldeo and Primarina, and potentially force a trade with Nidoking for Regieleki.

Other Options
=============

Choice Specs with Thunderbolt, or Thunder on Rain, Volt Switch, Swift, and a filler move such as Rapid Spin or Explosion is an option to take advantage of Regieleki's nuclear Electric-type STAB moves. Unfortunately, Regieleki's inability to touch Ground-types makes set very matchup dependent, and it struggles to compare to other offensive pivoting Electric-types like Thundurus, and Life Orb Heliolisk on Rain, which have solid ways of getting around Ground-types through U-turn or coverage respectively.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Regieleki is completely unable to touch Ground-types like Rhyperior and Krookodile without external assistance from its teammates. Nidoking in particular is particularly tricky for Regieleki, as it is immune to and absorbs Toxic Spikes, and cannot be statused by teammates such as Moltres. While most other Ground-types will lose against Regieleki if statused, Leftovers Krookodile can also be a problem for Regieleki if it has only been Burnt.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Regieleki cannot break through Chansey without the support of two layers of Toxic Spikes, as it can easily heal off any inconsequential damage otherwise. Teleport variants are especially problematic as they cannot be trapped by Thunder Cage. Chansey must still be wary of Volt Switch however, especially if not paired with a Ground-type. While taking more damage from Thunder Cage and unable to remove its own status, Umbreon can still outheal Regieleki unless it has been status'd by one of Regieleki's teammates.

(this sorta feels weird to read, because you talk about how dangerous it is, then how it is shit against grounds alone, then you talk about its pros again. I'd move the part of the ground-types to the beginning of its cons to make it flow better. Feel free to @ me for more clarity)

It can also struggle versus Amoonguss and Tangrowth if they are running Synthesis, although the low PP makes it possible for Regieleki to eventually break through them long term with status support. (too niche to even be talked about)

Paragraph 1

  • Substitute allows Regieleki to punish switch-ins to would be checks like Rhyperior and Assault Vest Tangrowth, after which it stall out Toxic and/or Thunder Cage damage with the combination of Substitute + Protect. this feels weird to read with "punish" not being the word I'd use. Try to reword to how Substitute allows Eleki to stall out poison chip and thunder cage damage on these threats in tandem with Protect

  • Speed tier that puts it above all Scarfed and +1 Speed Pokemon, as well as Rain Kingdra.
  • Strong Electric attacks that put a lot of pressure on any non resist. Its signature move in Thunder Cage lets it stand out from other Electric-types like Thundurus. mention transistor explicitly. also, while thunder cage is cool and significant to this set i think it's more speed/power that distinguishes it, so maybe combine that all.
  • Thunder Cage allows it to trap would be pivots like Tangrowth and Amoonguss, and SubTect cycle them to induce further damage. In particular with Stealth Rock up, this lets it completely remove an Amoonguss, while leaving Tangrowth with a severe HP defecit even after Regenerator. we talked about this on showdown, but amoong with giga drain is only sometimes a kill (also synth is fairly common on both tang and amoong now). I think the way to rewrite this would be to say "thunder cage can trap pivots like tang/amoong and heavily outdamage regenerator -- with minimal chip or a 5-turn thunder cage, it can even take them to 100-0 if they don't have synthesis"
  • Regieleki is a dangerous offensive presence when not facing Ground-types; unfortunately most teams do actually have them and it cannot do a single thing into them by itself.
