Gourgeist-XL directly competes with the excellent Cofagrigus for a teamslot, but the former retains a niche thanks to its access to reliable recovery and secondary Grass typing, which gives it notable resistances to Water-, Electric-, and Grass-type attacks. These traits make it a better option against Pokemon such as Swords Dance Silvally-Water, Flapple locked into Grav Apple, and Silvally-Ground. Synthesis gives Gourgeist-XL reliable recovery, although the low PP can become problematic in extended games. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Piloswine, Silvally-Dark, and Togedemaru. Foul Play allows Gourgeist-XL to revenge kill powerful, boosted physical attackers like Silvally-Dragon and Silvally-Steel. Colbur Berry lets Gourgeist-XL take a hit from Dark-types like Silvally-Dark and Skuntank and burn them if it needs to, as well as take a Knock Off from the likes of Sawk, Malamar, and Toxicroak. Frisk is allows Gourgeist-XL to scout items and potentially identify what set unpredictable Pokemon like Toxicroak and Rotom are running.

Gourgeist-XL is a good fit on bulkier builds that appreciate a physically bulky Ghost-type that also packs resistances to Water-, Grass-, and Electric-type attacks. Special walls like Clefairy and Galarian Stunfisk are good choices with Gourgeist-XL, as it has rather mediocre special bulk. Furthermore, Clefairy can supply Stealth Rock for Gourgeist-XL's team and appreciates having a partner to take physical attacks. Defensive Water-types that have good special bulk, like Wishiwashi and Lanturn, work well with Gourgeist-XL as well due to their generally good type synergy, although keep in mind that such a pairing could potentially leave one vulnerable to Rotom without taking other precautions. Quagsire stands out as a defensive Water-type that works very well on the bulkier playstyles Gourgeist-XLfinds itself on and helps it against strong physical setup sweepers it fails to check like Swords Dance Toxicroak.

Gourgeist-XL directly competes with the excellent Cofagrigus for a teamslot, but Gourgeist-XL retains a niche thanks to its access to reliable recovery and secondary Grass-typing, which gives it notable resistances to Water-, Electric-, and Ground-type attacks. These traits make it a better option against Pokemon such as Swords Dance Silvally-Water, Flapple locked into Grav Apple, and Wishiwashi (you can do better examples here; you mention resistances to Electric and Ground yet do not include Pokemon that use such attacks). Synthesis gives Gourgeist-XL reliable recovery, although the low PP can become problematic in extended games. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Piloswine, Silvally-Dark, and Togedemaru. Foul Play allows Gourgeist-XL to use the attack stat of powerful physical attackers like Silvally-Dragon and Malamar against them, therefore giving Gourgeist-XL some offensive presence and allowing it to deal with certain Swords Dance Pokemon (filler/repetitive). Colbur Berry lets Gourgeist-XL take a hit from Dark-types like Silvally-Dark and Skuntank and burn them if it needs to. It also allows it to take a Knock Off from the likes of Sawk, Malamar, and Toxicroak if need be. Frisk is the best ability, as it allows Gourgeist to scout items and potentially identify what set unpredictable Pokemon like Cofagrigus, Toxicroak, and Rotom are running.

Gourgeist-XL is a good fit on balance (you would be more likely to see it on fat builds tbh) teams that need a physically bulky Ghost-type that also packs resistances to Water-, Grass- and Electric-type attacks. Special walls such as Clefairy and Galarian Stunfisk are good choices with Gourgeist-XL, as Gourgeist-XL has rather mediocre Special Bulk. This can take the form of Clefairy and Galarian-Stunfisk. Defensive Water-types that have good special bulk, like Wishiwashi, Lanturn, and bulky Silvally-Water sets, (not a good set) work well with Gourgeist-XL as well due to their generally good type synergy, although keep in mind that such a pairing could potentially leave one vulnerable to to Rotom without taking other precautions. Gourgeist-XL's niche largely revolves around checking certain threats like Swords Dance Silvally-Water, as well as being able to pivot into some attacks from Choice Band Flapple. Therefore, Gourgeist-XL's teammates should be threats that do not appreciate the aforementioned Pokemon at all. (no need to repeat what you say in the previous paragraph) Fire-types like Rapidash and Silvally-Fire appreciate Gourgeist-XL's added resistances and can utilize its ability to wear down Water-types to its advantage. Offensive Water-types like Silvally-Water and Arctovish also appreciate the added resistances that Gourgeist-XL brings to the table, and they also appreciate Gourgeist slowly wearing down opposing Water-types. (not really integral to the functionality/purpose of Gourgeist-XL)

be more explicit with the bulkier teammates; quagsire is really good as an unware mon on stall and mention how clefairy can support gourg and its teammates

Gourgeist-XL directly competes with the excellent Cofagrigus for a teamslot, but Gourgeist-XL the former retains a niche thanks to its access to reliable recovery and secondary Grass typing(RH), which gives it notable resistances to Water-, Electric-, and Grass-type attacks. Synthesis gives Gourgeist-XL reliable recovery, although the low PP can become problematic in extended games. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Piloswine, Silvally-Dark, and Togedemaru. Foul Play allows Gourgeist-XL to use the attack stat of revenge kill powerful,(AC) boosted physical attackers like Silvally-Dragon and Malamar against them Silvally-Steel. Colbur Berry lets Gourgeist-XL take a hit from Dark-types like Silvally-Dark and Skuntank and burn them if it needs to,(period -> comma) It also allows it to as well as take a Knock Off from the likes of Sawk, Malamar, and Toxicroak if need be. Frisk is the best ability, as it allows Gourgeist-XL to scout items and potentially identify what set unpredictable Pokemon like Cofagrigus (RC) Toxicroak (RC) and Rotom are running. (seeing Cofa's item really doesn't help at all)

Gourgeist-XL is a good fit on bulkier builds that appreciate a physically bulky Ghost-type that also packs resistances to Water-, Grass-,(AC) and Electric-type attacks. Special walls like Clefairy and Galarian Stunfisk(RH) are good choices with Gourgeist-XL, as Gourgeist-XL it has rather mediocre Special Bulk special bulk. Quagsire stands out as a defensive Water-type that works very well on the bulkier playstyles that Gourgeist-XL can find finds itself on and helps Gourgeist-XL in defending it against strong physical setup sweepers it fails to check like Swords Dance Toxicroak. Clefairy is another notable partner, as it has excellent special bulk that can shore up Gourgeist-XL's rather poor special defense, while Gourgeist-XL picks up the slack on the physical side. Clefairy can also set Stealth Rock for these teams. Fire-types like Rapidash and Silvally-Fire appreciate Gourgeist-XL's added resistances and can utilize its ability to wear down Water-types to its advantage. (Rapidash does not go on bulky builds, and Silvally-Fire isn't really relevant right now)
