PU Granbull [QC 3/3] [GP 1/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Granbull is one of the rare Fairy-types in PU, albeit a mediocre one. However, its combination of a wide movepool, high Attack stat for a support Pokemon, solid physical bulk, and a great ability in Intimidate gives it some reason to use. Its Fairy typing allows it to both wall and take down common threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr as well as the elusive Sableye and Spiritomb. One of Granbull's main selling points over other Fairy-types is its access to Earthquake, which discourages Poison- and Steel-types such as Aggron and Qwilfish from switching in. Granbull's access to utility moves such as Heal Bell and Thunder Wave also allows it to diminish potential threats for its team. Unfortunately, Granbull suffers from a low Special Defense stat, meaning Granbull can be used exclusively as a physical wall, as well as a poor base 45 Speed stat, leaving it weak to Taunt and affecting its ability to hit its threats first with an Earthquake. Its low Speed also furthers its susceptibility to special attacks. Granbull also lacks reliable recovery and relies on Leftovers or Z-Heal Bell to heal. Because of this, Granbull's role as a defensive Fairy-type is contested by Clefairy and Silvally-Fairy, with the former having better special bulk as well as access to Soft-Boiled and Stealth Rock and the latter having access to Parting Shot and Defog.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Heal Bell provides Granbull with some nice utility, allowing it to remove any status ailments from its team, including itself. Thunder Wave provides additional utility and speed control, helping to cripple fast foes such as Scyther and Alolan Persian, as well as improving matchups against switch-ins such as Aggron and Alolan Sandslash. Play Rough gives Granbull offensive pressure and forces switches on Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, Alolan Raticate, and Absol. Earthquake allows Granbull to reliably dent Poison- and Steel-type foes that switch into it, such as Aggron and Qwilfish. Super Fang is an alternative to Earthquake that is useful against bulky Pokemon that lack recovery such as Regirock or if Granbull is low on HP as a last stand.

Set Details
========

Leftovers provides Granbull with residual recovery, which it otherwise lacks, but Z-Heal Bell is another viable choice that provides Granbull with a one-time-use full recovery. Maximum Attack investment allows Granbull to 2HKO Gurdurr and OHKO Hitmonchan, as well as OHKO Aggron after Stealth Rock with Earthquake.

Usage Tips
========

Granbull works best early-game as a switch-in to walls or bulky offensive Pokemon like Gurdurr, where it can get off a Heal Bell and possibly a Play Rough before the opponent switches out. If running Z-Heal Bell, it should ideally be used when Granbull is low on health and expecting the opponent to switch out to ensure maximum longevity. While Granbull can OHKO Aggron and 2HKO Qwilfish after Stealth Rock, it is otherwise unlikely and not advised without residual damage.

Team Options
========

Granbull tends to fit best on bulky offense and balance teams due to its high HP and Attack stats allowing it to deal damage as well as take hits. Its ability to both spread and remove status is also an asset to such teams and provides good role compression. Wallbreakers and cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Zangoose, and Absol appreciate Thunder Wave support due to their average Speed tiers, and both Zangoose and Absol, which are particularly frail, can switch out to Granbull to avoid being revenge killed by Gurdurr or Hitmonchan. Granbull appreciates the presence of bulky offensive Steel- and Ground-types such as Aggron and Mudsdale, which resist or are immune to Granbull's main weakness in Poison and can often switch in freely on Poison- or Steel-type attacks. Additionally, Aggron in turn benefits from Granbull's ability to force out Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, giving Aggron time to safely switch in. Granbull is capable of tanking a Knock Off for a threatened teammate such as Scyther or offensive Mesprit, particularly with Normalium Z. Entry hazard removers make brilliant partners for Granbull with their ability to mitigate its lack of recovery, and those with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability giving them an opening to switch in. Furthermore, Hitmonchan threatens Steel-types for Granbull, and special Skuntank is able to eliminate some checks to Granbull such as Qwilfish. Alolan Sandslash also synergizes well with Granbull in this sense due to its Poison-type immunity and access to Rapid Spin. Audino makes a particularly effective partner, mitigating Granbull's weakness to residual damage with reliable Wish support, with Granbull freeing up a slot for it due to running Heal Bell instead and checking Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. Audino also complements Granbull's physical bulk with its own special bulk. Finally, special wallbreakers such as Alolan Raichu make good teammates, as Granbull often baits in physical walls like Mudsdale and Tangela.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Granbull can run maximum Defense EVs instead of maximum Attack along with an Impish nature in order to be as physically bulky as possible at the cost of damage output if a more supportive role is required. In terms of items, Rocky Helmet is an option that allows Granbull to punish physical attackers or pressure them into switching, but it sacrifices what little recovery Granbull has. Choice Band can also be used to complement Granbull's Attack stat and improve its wallbreaking ability, but it is outclassed by other wallbreakers such as Aggron and removes Granbull's utility. Thunder Wave can be swapped for Toxic in order to wear down bulky walls and switch-ins, but Thunder Wave is often preferred, as it acts more immediately and leaves special sweepers open to revenge kills from teammates. Roar is another alternative to Thunder Wave if Granbull's team is weak to setup sweepers. If coverage is an issue, Granbull can swap Earthquake for Stone Edge to hit Froslass and Flying-types such as Articuno; however, Earthquake not only is the most effective and reliable choice but also helps to hit Granbull's potential checks in Fire-, Poison-, and Steel-type Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Specially offensive Poison-types such as Haunter, Roselia, and Victreebel are capable of switching in on and OHKOing Granbull without much worry.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: While Granbull isn't particularly bothered by some walls, it's threatened by those capable of outlasting it and possibly hitting back with special attacks. This includes bulky Grass-types such as Bellossom and Tangela, which receive reliable recovery in the form of Strength Sap and Synthesis and can use Granbull as setup fodder in the case of the former, and Mudsdale, which completely walls Granbull due to its Stamina ability and threatens it with Heavy Slam even despite having a lower Attack stat from Granbull's Intimidate.

**Strong Special Attackers**: Hard-hitters capable of outspeeding Granbull, such as Choice Specs Mesprit and Alolan Raichu, threaten it massively, as its low Special Defense leaves Granbull weak to invested special attacks.

**Steel-types**: Most Steel-types, such as Aggron and Alolan Sandslash, can switch into Play Rough fairly easily and threaten Granbull with their Steel-type STAB attacks. However, most Steel-types in the tier are 1-2HKOd by Earthquake, save the rare Bronzor.

**Residual Damage**: Granbull suffers badly from chip damage, entry hazards, and Leech Seed due to its lack of recovery.

PU Leader
[OVERVIEW]
  • Granbull is one of the best Fairy-types in PU, (meh, not really. it's actually really mediocre, imo.) with it's combination of a brilliant movepool, great defensive typing, Attack stat of 120 and solid physical bulk. (don't forget intimidate, really useful defensively.)
  • It's a strong answer to common Fighting-type threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr, as well as the elusive Dark / Ghost types Sableye and Spiritomb. (this sorta seems like it would go alongside the point about its defensive typing to actually explain what makes the typing great defensively.)
  • Granbull offers effective utility to the team, capable of supporting allies and crippling enemies. (how does it support its teammates? how does it cripple opposing pokemon?)
  • Due to Granbull's high attack stat, it differentiates itself from other supports by applying offensive pressure on the opponent, with access to powerful Fairy-type STAB in Play Rough.
  • Additionally, it also has a powerful niche in Earthquake, which heavily damages Poison- and Steel-types that expect a safe switch in. (what are some poison- and steel-types that would attempt to switch in?) (perhaps highlight that other fairies struggle to do much to poison- and steel-types, which explains how eq sets granbull apart from other fairies.)
  • Granbull's main drawback is it's low Special Defense, which leaves it susceptible to invested special attacks.
  • It also suffers from a base 45 Speed stat, leaving it weak to Taunt and affecting it's ability to hit it's threats first with an Earthquake.
  • Granbull faces competition from Altaria and Lanturn as Heal Bell users, (altaria doesn't run heal bell enough for it to really be a good comparison. furthermore, it tends to be specially defensive, whereas granbull's always physically defensive.) but these are weak to common attacking types in Ice and Ground respectively, and neither can match Granbull's offensive pressure.
  • Lacks reliable recovery, other Fairy-types like Clefairy and Silvally-Fairy give it competition for the defensive Fairy-type slot. (they don't quite fulfill the same role, but the former can offer a similar level of support, whereas the latter offers good support with pshot and defog, still has good offensive and defensive presence, and is much faster).
[SET]
name: Offensive Support
move 1: Heal Bell
move 2: Thunder Wave
move 3: Play Rough
move 4: Earthquake / Super Fang (idt this should be slashed, eq feels way too necessary with how common aggron is, among other stuff like qwilfish.)

ability: Intimidate
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Heal Bell provides Granbull with some nice utility, allowing it to remove the whole team's status ailments, including itself.
  • Thunder Wave provides additional utility and speed control, helping to cripple fast pivots and setup sweepers such as Scyther.
  • Play Rough is Granbull's Fairy-type STAB move of choice, hitting hard on anything that doesn't resist it and forcing switches on Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, Primeape, Alolan Raticate and Absol. (primeape feels like a questionable mention given that intimidate activates defiant, meaning that if you switch in, you're risking taking a +1 gunk shot.)
  • Earthquake allows Granbull to reliably dent Poison- and Steel-type foes that switch-in to it, such as Aggron, Skuntank (this isn't really going to be switching into you like aggron or qwilfish would, play rough already does a lot. saying that it guarantees the OHKO on skunk is fine, though.) and Qwilfish, and OHKOing Togedemaru, while avoiding recoil from Rocky Helmet and Aftermath.
  • Super Fang is an alternative to Earthquake which improves Granbull's wallbreaking ability, guaranteeing a 50% drop of the enemy's current HP. This is useful against bulky Pokemon such as Type: Null, or as a last stand, if Granbull is low on HP.
Set Details
========
  • 252 EVs in HP optimise Granbull's general bulk, allowing it to take plenty more hits and make better use of Leftovers, which provides residual and reliable recovery. (separate the point about leftovers and hp investment.)
  • Add smth about Normalium Z + Heal Bell.
  • Maximum Attack investment allows Granbull to destroy Fighting-type threats for it's team, 2HKOing Gurdurr and OHKOing Hitmonchan.
  • An Adamant nature is used to augment Granbull's damage output to it's full potential. (merge this point with the above point.)
  • Intimidate is preferred as it allows Granbull to cripple foes immediately upon switch in, improving Granbull's bulk and applying pressure on enemy physical attackers. (it doesn't really 'cripple' foes, btw specify physical attackers here and not later, but it's mainly about bolstering its defensive presence.)
Usage Tips
========
  • Granbull works best early-game as a switch in to Toxic walls (switching into toxic doesn't really sound like smth you want to do in most cases, even with heal bell, bc it forces you into using the move later to stay in the game. also, granbull loses to a lot of walls with toxic besides like clefairy.) or bulky offensive Pokemon like Gurdurr which it's team members struggle to cope with, when it can get off a Heal Bell and possibly a Play Rough before the opponent switches out.
  • Switch out and in on physical pivots and threats such as U-Turn Scyther as much as possible, in order to utilise Intimidate to it's full potential and tank damage for potentially threatened teammates. If running Super Fang, use it to get heavy chip damage off on enemies.
  • Stay in, however, on Ghost-type walls such as Sableye, Spiritomb and Gourgeist as they will waste turns applying status with Will-O-Wisp or Toxic before dealing insignificant damage. In this case, the status is negated with a use of Heal Bell, allowing you to heavily dent the enemy for free.
  • Note that Granbull is weak to special attacks, (vulnerable, not weak.) and shouldn't try to switch into or stay in on one unless it resists it. Never stay in on a Weezing, as they wall both your attacks and can hit hard with Sludge Bomb.
  • Late-game, Granbull functions as a counter to physical cleaners such as..., using Intimidate to either force a switch or crippling them if they're the last Pokemon left.
  • Try not to switch in too much if entry hazards are up bc lack of recovery.
  • Smth about when to use Z-Heal Bell.
Team Options
========
  • Granbull appreciates the presence of bulky offensive Steel- and Ground-types such as Aggron and Mudsdale, who resist or are immune to Granbull's main weakness of Poison and can often switch in freely to Poison- or Steel-type attacks. Additionally, Aggron in turn benefits from Granbull's ability to force out Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, giving Aggron time to safely switch in.
  • Pivots that chip away at the opponent or reduce the damage taken by Granbull upon switch in, such as Silvally-Dragon, Alolan Persian, Scyther and Lanturn synergise well with Granbull. (i mean, pivots aren't really all that important for granbull in most cases. most phys moves won't do that much bc of intimidate + its naturally high bulk, and you won't usually be switching it into special moves regardless.)
  • Hazard removers with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability, giving them an opening to switch in without the worry of taking too much damage. (it's more that they're good partners bc of how they mitigate granbull's lack of recovery and less that granbull lets them switch in easier. hazard removers in general are useful for granbull no matter their defense.) (hitmonchan threatens steels, special skunk beats stuff like qwil and mudsdale.)
  • Audino provides Granbull with reliable wish support, while freeing up a slot due to Granbull running Heal Bell instead, whereas Granbull is able to check Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. (spdef mon also pairs well with the physdef mon bc defensive core.)
  • Special wallbreakers are nice partners bc of how often you bait in things like Mudsdale and Tangela
  • Generally fits on bulky offense / balance, worth mentioning bc it's not super easy to use
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Granbull can run 252 Defense EVs instead of maximum Attack, along with an Impish nature, in order for Granbull to be as physically bulky as possible but lacking damage output, if a more supportive role is required.
  • Granbull can also run Normalium Z instead of Leftovers for Z-Heal Bell, which provides Granbull with a one-time-use full recovery as opposed to constant residual recovery. (remove this point.)
  • Thunder Wave can be swapped either for Toxic if Granbull's team is weak to stall, (also useful for wearing down a lot of its switch-ins in general.) or Roar if it is weak to set-up sweepers. (separate these two points.)
  • If coverage is an issue, Granbull can swap Earthquake for Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch or Stone Edge depending on the team's requirements: however, it is not recommended as Earthquake is not only the strongest and most reliable choice but also helps to hit Granbull's potential checks in Fire-, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon.
  • Choice Band
Checks and Counters
===================

Weezing: Weezing hard counters Granbull as a defensive Poison-type with Ground-type immunity that threatens Granbull with Sludge Bomb. However, Granbull is useful in removing the status ailments that Weezing tends to inflict.

Physically Defensive Pokemon: While Granbull isn't particularly bothered by some walls, it's threatened by others, particularly those capable of out-sustaining it and hitting back with special attacks. This includes bulky Grass-types such as Bellossom and Tangela, who receive reliable recovery in the form of Strength Sap and Synthesis respectively, and Duosion, who has access to Barrier and Recover, while boasting a high Special Attack stat. (bellossom also uses granbull as setup fodder.) (duosion is currently unranked, don't mention it here.) (other physdef mons like mudsdale and gourgeist-xl just kinda sit there and take your hits.)

Strong Special Attackers: Hard hitters capable of outspeeding Granbull, such as Mesprit and Haunter, both of which are immune to Earthquake, threaten Granbull massively, as his low Special Defense combined with Granbull's ability Intimidate, which only affects physical attackers, leaves Granbull weak to invested special attacks.

Steel-types: Most Steel-types, such as Aggron and Togedemaru, can switch into Play Rough with negligible damage taken, and are threatened only by Earthquake. However, even Aggron outspeeds Granbull, and is capable of OHKOing with Heavy Slam before Granbull manages to hit back.

Just wanted to point out you don’t actually bold each C&C point but rather do the formatting for them instead like **Steel-types**
Not a big issue though but that’s usually how it’s formatted

Go into a bit more detail regarding why Granbull fits best on bulky offensive and balance teams, the reasons on their own aren't really enough. Make this part first, as it sums up the entire section.

The bit about Toxic > Thunder Wave isn't finished.

Make the 'Weezing' section in C&C about Poison-types in general like Haunter and Skuntank, but do emphasize Weezing.

Do this and you get a 1/3 from me. Be sure to nuke the unneeded, obvious info. (Play Rough being its most powerful STAB move, the EV spread, etc.) If you have any questions about this, lmk.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Granbull is one of the rare Fairy-types in PU, and with it's combination of a brilliant movepool, Attack stat of 120, solid physical bulk, and a great ability in Intimidate, which lowers the enemy's Attack stat, it's certainly a strong one.(strong is overselling it, a better word would be something like 'alright')
  • The Fairy-typing is great defensively, allowing it to both wall and take down common Fighting-type threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr, as well as the elusive Dark / Ghost types Sableye and Spiritomb.(no need to specify what types it checks, just checks this mon and that mon)
  • Granbull offers effective utility to the team, capable of supporting allies by removing status with Heal Bell and crippling enemies by applying paralysis with Thunder Wave.(this can be just said as 'it has support moves like this and that')
  • Due to Granbull's high attack stat, it differentiates itself from other supports with it's ability to apply offensive pressure on the opponent.
  • Additionally, it also has a powerful niche in Earthquake, which heavily damages Poison- and Steel-types that expect a safe switch in, such as Aggron and Qwilfish, while setting itself apart from other Fairy-types.
  • Granbull's main drawback is it's low Special Defense, which leaves it susceptible to invested ('invested' is an unecessary detail)special attacks.
  • It also suffers from a base 45 Speed stat, leaving it weak to Taunt and affecting it's ability to hit it's threats first with an Earthquake.
  • Granbull lacks reliable recovery, and has competition for the role of defensive Fairy-type from Clefairy and Silvally-Fairy, the former having access to Soft-Boiled and Stealth Rock and the latter access to Parting Shot and Defog.(lack of recovery and competition are 2 different points, they shouldnt be squished into one sentence)

  • Heal Bell provides Granbull with some nice utility, allowing it to remove the whole team's status ailments, including itself.
  • Thunder Wave provides additional utility and speed control, helping to cripple fast pivots and setup sweepers (u can just say fast foes, no need to be so specific)such as Scyther.
  • Play Rough hits hard on anything that doesn't resist it (thats p obvious)and forces switches on Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, Alolan Raticate and Absol.(weird wording, since the move isnt the only thing that threatens them out)
  • Earthquake allows Granbull to reliably dent Poison- and Steel-type foes that switch into it, such as Aggron and Qwilfish, and OHKOing Togedemaru and Skuntank, while avoiding recoil from Rocky Helmet and Aftermath.(remove this last point, p unnecessary)
  • Super Fang is an alternative to Earthquake which improves Granbull's wallbreaking ability, guaranteeing a 50% drop of the enemy's current HP. (remove this 50% health point, assume the reader knows what super fang does)This is useful against bulky Pokemon such as Type: Null(Null doesnt care too much cuz Rest), or as a last stand, if Granbull is low on HP.(p unnecessary detail, especially since it has various other things it can do at low)
Set Details
========

  • Leftovers provides Granbull with residual and reliable recovery(its not reliable recovery, reliable recovery is a move like recover), which it lacks.
  • Normalium Z is an alternative to Leftovers which provides a one-time-use full recovery as opposed to constant residual recovery.
  • Maximum Attack investment allows Granbull to destroy Fighting-type threats for it's team, 2HKOing Gurdurr and OHKOing Hitmonchan.(new standards, remove)
  • An Adamant nature is used to augment Granbull's damage output to it's full potential.(new standards, remove)
  • Intimidate is preferred as it bolsters Granbull's defensive pressure while allowing Granbull to outdamage most physical attackers immediately upon switch in.(new stadards bla bla remove)

Usage Tips
========

  • Granbull works best early-game as a switch in to walls or bulky offensive Pokemon like Gurdurr which it's team members struggle to cope with, when it can get off a Heal Bell and possibly a Play Rough before the opponent switches out.
  • Switch out and in on physical pivots and threats such as U-Turn Scyther as much as possible, in order to utilise Intimidate to it's full potential and tank damage for potentially threatened teammates.(eh, thats just asking for them to get a free pivot into a special attacker or something, remove) If running Super Fang, use it to get heavy chip damage off on enemies.
  • Stay in, however, on Ghost-type walls such as Sableye, Spiritomb and Gourgeist as they will waste turns applying status with Will-O-Wisp or Toxic before dealing insignificant damage. In this case, the status is negated with a use of Heal Bell, allowing you to heavily dent the enemy for free.(p specific, remove)
  • Note that Granbull is vulnerable to special attacks, and shouldn't try to switch into or stay in on one unless it resists it. Never stay in on a Weezing, as they wall both your attacks and can hit hard with Sludge Bomb.(kinda obvious, remove)
  • Late-game, Granbull functions as a counter to physical cleaners such as Poliwrath (I wouldnt consider poli much of a cleaner)and Absol, using Intimidate to either force a switch or crippling them if they're the last Pokemon left.(This entire point is p much the same thing it should be doing the entire game, remove)
  • Something about when to use z heal bell
  • Something about being worn down cuz hazards and stuff
IK I said remove a lot so it may come out short, but thats fine since granbull is a p simple mon to use.
Team Options
========

  • Granbull tends to fit well on bulky offense and balance teams, due to it's high HP and Attack stats allowing it to deal damage as well as take hits. It's ability to also spread and remove status is also an asset to such teams and provides good role compression without the need to add clerics into the team.(weirdly worded sentence, specifically "without the need to add clerics into the team", since granbull is the cleric ur adding the team)
  • Granbull appreciates the presence of bulky offensive Steel- and Ground-types such as Aggron and Mudsdale, who resist or are immune to Granbull's main weakness of Poison and can often switch in freely to Poison- or Steel-type attacks. Additionally, Aggron in turn benefits from Granbull's ability to force out Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, giving Aggron time to safely switch in.(kinda iffy on this point, since weezing and haunter still have a good matchup against mudsdale and aggron doesnt wanna switch into a wisp or a shadow ball)
  • Pivots that chip away at the opponent or reduce the damage taken by Granbull upon switch in, such as Silvally-Dragon, Alolan Persian, Scyther and Lanturn synergise well with Granbull.(Pivots dont really do much for granbull specifically since ur main job is to switch into attacks, so remove this point)
  • Hazard removers make brilliant partners with their ability to mitigate Granbull's lack of recovery, and those with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability, giving them an opening to switch in. Furthermore Hitmonchan threatens Steel-types for Granbull, and special Skuntank is able to eliminate some checks to Granbull such as Qwilfish and Mudsdale.(special skunk doesnt beat mudsdale :l)
  • Audino provides Granbull with reliable wish support, while freeing up a slot due to Granbull running Heal Bell instead, whereas Granbull is able to check Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. It also complements Granbull's physical bulk with it's own special bulk.
  • Special wallbreakers such as Alolan Raichu and Shiftry(shiftry isnt really a special mon, usually physical or mixed) make good partners as Granbull often baits in physical walls like Mudsdale and Tangela(mention weezing here imo).

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Granbull can run 252 Defense EVs instead of maximum Attack, along with an Impish nature, in order for Granbull to be as physically bulky as possible but lacking damage output, if a more supportive role is required.
  • Thunder Wave can be swapped for Toxic in order to wear down bulky walls and switch-ins.(any reason twave is generally better?)
  • Roar is another alternative to Thunder Wave if it Granbull's team is weak to set-up sweepers.('weak to setup sweepers' is odd wording, since there are way too many different setup sweepers for teams to be good or bad against all of them)(also mention roar is good on hazard stacking teams)
  • If coverage is an issue, Granbull can swap Earthquake for Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch or Stone Edge depending on the team's requirements: (fire punch is fine for like snowslash ig, but unless theres some notable target the rest hit, remove them)however, it is not recommended as Earthquake is not only the strongest (remove 'strongest', cuz ur using eq for coverage not power)and most reliable choice but also helps to hit Granbull's potential checks in Fire-, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon.
  • Choice Band is an option, which removes the residual recovery of Leftovers and limits Granbull's versatility but boosts Granbull's damage output further still.(this explanation seems kinda off. u should mention its wallbreaking stuff first, and its downside isnt lack of recovery or versatility, there are just better banded mons)(also id move this to like the first or second bullet, since its a better option than some of this other stuff)
Rocky Helmet should be here too
Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types** Poison-types such as Weezing switch into Granbull with little issue, completely walling both it's attacks and threatening Granbull with Sludge Bomb. Conversely, offensive Poison-types such as Haunter are capable of switching in and OHKOing Granbull without much worry.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon** While Granbull isn't particularly bothered by some walls, it's threatened by others, particularly those capable of out-sustaining it and possibly hitting back with special attacks. This includes bulky Grass-types such as Bellossom (Bell isnt a physdef mon)and Tangela, who receive reliable recovery in the form of Strength Sap and Synthesis respectively with the former using Granbull as setup fodder, and Mudsdale, who completely walls Granbull due to it's Stamina ability and is able to kill(don't use the word kill)(also the standard mudsdale set doesnt ohko, only banded) it despite having -1 Attack.

**Strong Special Attackers** Hard hitters capable of outspeeding Granbull, such as Mesprit and Haunter(Already mentioned Haunter under poison types), both of which are immune to Earthquake(pointless detail, remove), threaten Granbull massively, as his low Special Defense combined with Granbull's ability Intimidate, which only affects physical attackers, (the intimidate point is also p pointless, remove)leaves Granbull weak to invested special attacks.

**Steel-types** Most Steel-types, such as Aggron and Togedemaru, can switch into Play Rough with negligible damage taken, and are threatened only by Earthquake. However, even Aggron outspeeds Granbull, and is capable of OHKOing with Heavy Slam before Granbull manages to hit back.

[OVERVIEW]

Granbull is one of the rare Fairy-types in PU, and a decent one too this still feels like it's overselling the mon because it really isn't that viable, with it's combination of a brilliant movepool, Attack stat of 120, solid physical bulk, and a great ability in Intimidate, which lowers the opponent's Attack stat (fluff) it's Fairy-typing is great defensively, allowing it to both wall and take down common threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr, as well as the elusive (would just say Dark-types) Sableye and Spiritomb (I feel like the information would flow better if you'd merge these bits in the first sentence since you first talk about it being a fairy). One of Granbull's main selling points over other Fairy-types is it's access to Earthquake, which heavily damages Poison- and Steel-types that expect a safe switch in they don't expect a safe switchin at all since Granbull is like the one fairy that runs EQ. would rather say discourage, such as Aggron and Qwilfish. Furthermore, Granbull has access to useful support moves such as Heal Bell and Thunder Wave, allowing it to spread status as well as deal decent damage none of these moves deal damage though, would shift the wording around, which is a rare ability among supports granbull's lack of passivity compared to other support mons could probably be briefed earlier since that's where you talk to about its high attack. Unfortunately, Granbull suffers from a low Special Defense stat, meaning Granbull is exclusively a physical wall, as well as a base 45 Speed stat, leaving it weak to Taunt and affecting it's ability to hit it's threats first with an Earthquake, furthering it's susceptibility to special attacks "threats you want to hit with eq" and "special attackers" don't really correlate with each other. would be better to talk about about one or the other in different segments imo. As well as this, Granbull lacks reliable recovery, and relies on Leftovers or Normalium Z to heal. Finally, Granbull's role as defensive Fairy-type is contested by Clefairy and Silvally-Fairy, the former having access to Soft-Boiled and Stealth Rock better spdef too and the latter access to Parting Shot and Defog.

Heal Bell provides Granbull with some nice utility, allowing it to remove the whole team's status ailments, including itself. Thunder Wave provides additional utility and speed control, helping to cripple fast foes such as Scyther and Alolan Persian helps Granbull take on stuff like Aggron and Alolaslash better as well. Play Rough gives Granbull offensive pressure, and forces switches on Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, Alolan Raticate and Absol. Earthquake allows Granbull to reliably dent Poison- and Steel-type foes that switch into it, such as Aggron and Qwilfish, and OHKO Togedemaru and Skuntank. Super Fang is an alternative to Earthquake which is useful against bulky Pokemon that lack recovery such as Regirock, or as a last stand, if Granbull is low on HP.

Set Details
========

Leftovers provides Granbull with residual recovery, which it otherwise lacks: but Normalium Z is another viable choice which provides Granbull with a one-time-use full recovery as opposed to constant residual recovery. Maximum Attack investment allows Granbull to 2HKO Gurdurr and OHKO Hitmonchan. you're leaving other typings out to dry... could mention how it can OHKO Aggron after rocks with EQ

Usage Tips
========

Granbull works best early-game as a switch in to walls or bulky offensive Pokemon like Gurdurr which it's team members struggle to cope with, when it can get off a Heal Bell and possibly a Play Rough before the opponent switches out. If running Super Fang, use it to get heavy chip damage off on enemies by switching in often on full-health physical attackers this isn't on the main set though. If running Z-Heal Bell, it should ideally be used when Granbull is low on health and expecting the opponent to switch out, to ensure maximum longevity. Since Granbull lacks recovery chip damage is a pain to deal with, so it's advised to partner Granbull with one of the hazard removers mentioned below this should really be in team options instead, plus this point also extends to any sort of residual damage

Something about using Earthquake on predicted switch-ins would be nice

Team Options
========

Granbull tends to fit well on bulky offense and balance teams, due to it's high HP and Attack stats allowing it to deal damage as well as take hits. It's ability to also spread and remove status is also an asset to such teams and provides good role compression. Granbull appreciates the presence of bulky offensive Steel- and Ground-types such as Aggron and Mudsdale, who resist or are immune to Granbull's main weakness of Poison and can often switch in freely to Poison- or Steel-type attacks. Additionally, Aggron in turn benefits from Granbull's ability to force out Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, giving Aggron time to safely switch in. Hazard removers make brilliant partners with their ability to mitigate Granbull's lack of recovery, and those with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability, giving them an opening to switch in. Furthermore, Hitmonchan threatens Steel-types for Granbull, and special Skuntank is able to eliminate some checks to Granbull such as Qwilfish too. It should also be noted that Alolan Sandslash synergises well with Granbull in this sense due to it's Poison-type immunity and access to Rapid Spin. Audino makes a particularly effective partner, providing Granbull with reliable wish support while freeing up a slot due to Granbull running Heal Bell instead, whereas Granbull is able to check Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. It also complements Granbull's physical bulk with it's own special bulk. Finally, special wallbreakers such as Alolan Raichu make good teammates as Granbull often baits in physical walls like Mudsdale, Tangela and Weezing.

You can definitely emphasize offensive teammates far more. In the beginning when you go over granbull's role compression for example, most of the mons you mention as teammates are also slow and bulky and thus don't get as much out of something like twave. This can open up the way for setup sweepers for instance. Frailer mons can fall back on Granbull in the event that they might get revenge killed. Granbull's also a solid sponge to knock off, which is something teammates like scyther and offensive mesprit highly appreciate

Other Options
=============

Granbull can run 252 Defense EVs instead of maximum Attack, along with an Impish nature, in order for Granbull to be as physically bulky as possible but lacking damage output, if a more supportive role is required. In terms of items, Rocky Helmet is an option which allows Granbull to punish physical attackers, or pressure them into switching at the cost of any sort of recovery, however. Choice Band can also be used to complement Granbull's Attack stat and improve it's wallbreaking ability, but it is outclassed by other wallbreakers such as? and removes Granbull's utility. Thunder Wave can be swapped for Toxic in order to wear down bulky walls and switch-ins, but Thunder Wave is often preferred as it acts more immediately and leaves special sweepers open to revenge kills from teammates. Roar is another alternative to Thunder Wave if it Granbull's team is weak to set-up sweepers. If coverage is an issue, Granbull can swap Earthquake for Fire Punch to hit Alolan Sandslash this seems really questionable since this makes you walled by Qwil and Alolaslash already takes a ton from EQ and also hits nothing else. You can keep if QC wants you to but it's not worth running imo or Stone Edge to hit Froslass and Flying-types such as Articuno: however, it is not recommended as Earthquake is not only the most effective and reliable choice but also helps to hit Granbull's potential checks in Fire-, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

This includes bulky Grass-types such as Bellossom and Tangela, who receive reliable recovery in the form of Strength Sap and Synthesis respectively with the former using Granbull as setup fodder, and Mudsdale, who completely walls Granbull due to it's Stamina ability and threatens it with Heavy Slam despite having -1 Attack.

**Strong Special Attackers** Hard hitters capable of outspeeding Granbull, such as Specs Mesprit, Alolan Raichu and Simisear simi isn't very relevant Granbull massively, as his low Special Defense leaves Granbull weak to invested special attacks.

Residual damage ought to be its own section since Granbull has no recovery outside of its held item

[OVERVIEW]

Granbull is one of the rare Fairy-types in PU, and not a bad one too, with it's combination of a brilliant movepool, high Attack stat of 120 (unique among supports), solid physical bulk, and a great ability in Intimidate the overview needs a bit of rewriting, it's just too positive for something as mediocre and unseen as granbull. I'm talking about the sentences right before and right after this comment specifically, "not bad" and "great" will p much always oversell this. It's Fairy-typing is great defensively, allowing it to both wall and take down common threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr, as well as the elusive Sableye and Spiritomb. One of Granbull's main selling points over other Fairy-types is it's access to Earthquake, which discourages switch-ins from Poison- and Steel-types such as Aggron and Qwilfish. It's wrong its low speed also furthers it's susceptibility to special attacks. As well as this, Granbull lacks reliable recovery, and relies on Leftovers or Normalium Z to heal. Finally, Granbull's role as defensive Fairy-type is contested by Clefairy and Silvally-Fairy, the former having better special bulk as well as access to Soft-Boiled and Stealth Rock, and the latter having access to Parting Shot and Defog.

Thunder Wave provides additional utility and speed control, helping to cripple fast foes such as Scyther and Alolan Persian as well as improving matchups against switch-ins such as Aggron you EQ this one, better example pls and Alolan Sandslash. Play Rough gives Granbull offensive pressure, and forces switches on Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, Alolan Raticate and Absol having 4 examples for what your main stab move hits super effectively is a great example of the unnecessary fluff we're trying to cut down on with the whole changing analysis standards thread in this subforum.

If a Steel- or Poison-type such as Aggron or Qwilfish is expected to switch in, use Earthquake to deal heavy damage, and in some cases OHKO. this could be written as a more useful tip rather than the incredibly basic "if they have a resist, try to predict it" line that it is here

Team Options

Granbull tends to fit well best is a better adjective than well, well implies it's actually a decent mon whereas best means it's the best granbull can manage on bulky offense and balance teams, due to it's high HP and Attack stats allowing it to deal damage as well as take hits. It's ability to both spread and remove status is also an asset to such teams and provides good role compression. Wallbreakers and cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Zangoose and Absol appreciate Thunder Wave support due to their moderately high speed tiers what you mean to say is merely solid speed tiers or something, because fast things don't need the twave support, borderline fast things do, and both Zangoose and Absol, who are particularly frail, can switch into Granbull to avoid a revenge kill from Gurdurr or Hitmonchan, giving Granbull some useful momentum. Granbull is capable of tanking a Knock Off for a threatened teammate such as Scyther or Offensive Mesprit, particularly with Normalium Z. Hazard removers make brilliant partners for Granbull with their ability to mitigate it's lack of recovery, and those with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability, giving them an opening to switch in. Furthermore, Hitmonchan threatens Steel-types for Granbull, and special Skuntank is able to eliminate some checks to Granbull such as Qwilfish. It should also be noted that Alolan Sandslash synergises well with Granbull in this sense due to it's Poison-type immunity and access to Rapid Spin.
Audino makes a particularly effective partner, providing Granbull with reliable wish support which is useful for reducing Granbull's weakness to residual damage, while freeing up a slot due to Granbull running Heal Bell instead, whereas Granbull is able to check Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. It also complements Granbull's physical bulk with it's own special bulk. Finally, special wallbreakers such as Alolan Raichu make good teammates as Granbull often baits in physical walls like Mudsdale, Tangela and Weezing.

none of this is completely wrong but there is a ton of incredibly basic info and fluff, there is just no reason for team options of a bad mon that doesn't need any exceptional support to be so long. I would cut out some of the bits that just lean into too obvious or too broad territory, like the special wallbreakers line and some of the extra stuff about poison weaknesses since there's so much about that

Granbull works best early-game as a switch-in (add hyphen) to walls or bulky offensive Pokemon like Gurdurr, (AC) which it's team members struggle to cope with, (i don't feel like this part is needed but that's up to you) when where it can get off a Heal Bell and possibly a Play Rough before the opponent switches out. If running Z-Heal Bell, it should ideally be used when Granbull is low on health and expecting the opponent to switch out, (RC) to ensure maximum longevity. While Granbull can OHKO Aggron and 2HKO Qwilfish after Stealth Rock, it is otherwise unlikely and not advised without Stealth Rock chip residual damage.

Team Options

Granbull tends to fit best on bulky offense and balance teams, (RC) due to it's its high HP and Attack stats allowing it to deal damage as well as take hits. It's Its ability to both spread and remove status is also an asset to such teams and provides good role compression. Wallbreakers and cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Zangoose, (AC) and Absol appreciate Thunder Wave support due to their average speed Speed tiers, and both Zangoose and Absol, who which are particularly frail, can switch into out to Granbull to avoid a being revenge killed from by Gurdurr or Hitmonchan, giving Granbull some useful momentum. Granbull appreciates the presence of bulky offensive Steel- and Ground-types such as Aggron and Mudsdale, who which resist or are immune to Granbull's main weakness of in Poison and can often switch in freely to on Poison- or Steel-type attacks. Additionally, Aggron in turn benefits from Granbull's ability to force out Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, giving Aggron time to safely switch in. Granbull is capable of tanking a Knock Off for a threatened teammate such as Scyther or Offensive offensive Mesprit, particularly with Normalium Z. Entry hazard removers make brilliant partners for Granbull with their ability to mitigate it's its lack of recovery, and those with low Defense such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan appreciate Granbull's Intimidate ability (RC) giving them an opening to switch in. Furthermore, Hitmonchan threatens Steel-types for Granbull, and special Skuntank is able to eliminate some checks to Granbull such as Qwilfish. It should also be noted that Alolan Sandslash synergises also synergizes well with Granbull in this sense due to it's its Poison-type immunity and access to Rapid Spin. Audino makes a particularly effective partner, providing Granbull with reliable wish Wish support which is useful for reducing mitigating Granbull's weakness to residual damage with reliable Wish support, while with Granbull freeing up a slot for it due to Granbull running Heal Bell instead (RC) whereas Granbull is able to check and checking Fighting-types that can potentially threaten Audino. It Audino also complements Granbull's physical bulk with it's its own special bulk. Finally, special wallbreakers such as Alolan Raichu make good teammates, (AC) as Granbull often baits in physical walls like Mudsdale, Tangela and Weezing.

Other Options
=============

Granbull can run 252 maximum Defense EVs instead of maximum Attack, (RC) along with an Impish nature, (RC) in order for Granbull to be as physically bulky as possible but lacking at the cost of damage output, (RC) if a more supportive role is required. In terms of items, Rocky Helmet is an option which that allows Granbull to punish physical attackers, or pressure them into switching, but it sacrifices what little recovery Granbull has. Choice Band can also be used to complement Granbull's Attack stat and improve it's its wallbreaking ability, but it is outclassed by other wallbreakers such as Aggron and removes Granbull's utility. Thunder Wave can be swapped for Toxic in order to wear down bulky walls and switch-ins, but Thunder Wave is often preferred, (AC) as it acts more immediately and leaves special sweepers open to revenge kills from teammates. Roar is another alternative to Thunder Wave if it Granbull's team is weak to set-up setup sweepers. If coverage is an issue, Granbull can swap Earthquake for Stone Edge to hit Froslass and Flying-types such as Articuno: however, it is not recommended as Earthquake not only is not only the most effective and reliable choice but also helps to hit Granbull's potential checks in Fire-, Poison-, (AC) and Steel-type Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: (colon) Ground-immune Poison-types such as Weezing switch into Granbull with little issue, completely walling both it's its attacks and threatening Granbull with Sludge Bomb. Conversely, offensive Poison-types such as Haunter are capable of switching in on and OHKOing Granbull without much worry.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: While Granbull isn't particularly bothered by some walls, it's threatened by others, particularly those capable of out-sustaining outlasting it and possibly hitting back with special attacks. This includes bulky Grass-types such as Bellossom and Tangela, who which receive reliable recovery in the form of Strength Sap and Synthesis respectively with the former using and can use Granbull as setup fodder in the case of the former, and Mudsdale, who which completely walls Granbull due to its Stamina ability and threatens it with Heavy Slam even despite having -1 Attack a lower Attack stat from Granbull's Intimidate. ("Intimidate's Attack drop" imo)

**Strong Special Attackers**: Hard-hitters (AH) capable of outspeeding Granbull, such as Choice Specs Mesprit and Alolan Raichu, (AC) threaten Granbull it massively, as his its low Special Defense leaves Granbull weak to invested special attacks.

**Steel-types**: Most Steel-types, such as Aggron and Togedemaru, can switch into Play Rough with negligible damage taken, (RC) and are threatened only by Earthquake. However, even Aggron outspeeds Granbull, (RC) and is capable of OHKOing with Heavy Slam before Granbull manages to hit back.

**Residual Damage**: Granbull suffers badly from chip damage, entry hazards, (AC) and Leech Seed due to it's its lack of recovery.

[OVERVIEW]

Granbull is one of the rare Fairy-types in PU, albeit a mediocre one. However, its combination of a wide movepool, high Attack stat for a support Pokemon, solid physical bulk, and a great ability in Intimidate gives it some reason to use. Its Fairy-(RH)typing allows it to both wall and take down common threats such as Hitmonchan and Gurdurr,(RC) as well as the elusive Sableye and Spiritomb. Unfortunately, Granbull suffers from a low Special Defense stat, meaning Granbull can only exclusively be used exclusively as a physical wall, as well as a poor base 45 Speed stat, leaving it weak to Taunt and affecting its ability to hit its threats first with an Earthquake.

Earthquake allows Granbull to reliably dent Poison- and Steel-type foes that switch into it, such as Aggron and Qwilfish, and OHKO Togedemaru and Skuntank. Super Fang is an alternative to Earthquake that is useful against bulky Pokemon that lack recovery such as Regirock or if Granbull is low on HP as a last stand.

Leftovers provides Granbull with residual recovery, which it otherwise lacks, but Z-Heal Bell is another viable choice that provides Granbull with a one-time-use full recovery.
