With the addition of Dynamax, Groudon has become a top threat in AG. A good Attack stat, near-perfect movepool, Swords Dance, solid bulk, and Max Airstream make it miraculously difficult to switch into and revenge kill afterwards. Precipice Blades and Stone Edge can break through most of the metagame, especially if walls like Zygarde-C and Giratina are weakened. Max Rockfall invalidates both Lugia and Lunala as checks by negating Multiscale and Shadow Shield with sand chip, respectively. Aerial Ace enables Max Airstream, allowing Groudon to outspeed much of the metagame after Dynamaxing. Groudon is a worthy pick on hyper offense, bulky offense, and balance teams; it specifically appreciates Sticky Web support from Shuckle, as it won't have to rely on Max Airstream to outspeed faster foes in case another teammate has used Dynamax. Teammates like Calyrex-S and Yveltal are able to weaken or limit checks to Groudon like Lugia and Lunala, making them particularly good. Partners like Zacian-C, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Calyrex-S are also good to lure in Necrozma-DM and Tyranitar. Lastly, Ferrothorn can check Kyogre on balance teams and provide Spikes support.
