[Overview]
Heatran's typing coupled with Flash Fire grants it important immunities and numerous key resistances. This allows it to come in on a plethora of bulky Pokemon such as Eternatus, Ho-Oh lacking Earthquake and Xerneas and wear down opposing teams with its strong movepool. Its signature move, Magma Storm, allows Heatran to trap and KO many of the tier's special walls such as Eternatus, Ho-Oh, and Blissey in combination with Taunt. Utility moves like Stealth Rock, Roar, and Toxic can help further break down bulkier teams and allow teammates like Groudon to forgo support moves in favor of more offensive sets. Unfortunately, Heatran's lack of reliable recovery limits the number of teams it can work on and forces it to rely on Leftovers, which makes it extremely vulnerable to the common Knock Off and entry hazards. Its typing also comes with various weaknesses to common attacking types, which requires extensive team support. Finally, Magma Storm's accuracy and low PP make Heatran somewhat unreliable at what niche it does have.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive Trapper
move 1: Magma Storm
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Toxic / Roar / Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Flash Fire
nature: Calm
evs: 244 HP / 240 SpD / 20 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This specially defensive spread provides Heatran much-needed bulk against common special threats like Eternatus and Xerneas; Special Attack investment is not needed, since Heatran mostly relies on passive damage from Magma Storm, Toxic, and Stealth Rock to defeat foes. 244 HP EVs allow Heatran to take an extra round of Leech Seed or entry hazard damage, and 20 Speed EVs let it outspeed uninvested Necrozma-DM and Buzzwole, as well as certain Groudon variants. The combination of Magma Storm, Taunt, and Earth Power is needed to trap Eternatus, one of Heatran's most important targets. Toxic and Stealth Rock are both good options for additional passive damage, while Roar allows Heatran to phaze Meteor Beam Eternatus and Geomancy Xerneas.

Lunala, Giratina-O, and defensive Zygarde-C are capable of dealing with common Ground-types in Groudon, Zygarde-C, and Excadrill, which is vital when using Heatran. Another great defensive partner is Blissey, which acts as a secondary special wall for offensive Eternatus and Xerneas and answers Kyogre, allowing Heatran to forgo Roar. Eternatus has good defensive synergy with Heatran due to resisting both Water and Fighting. Offensive Pokemon like Kyogre and Xerneas appreciate Heatran's ability to pressure and remove common special walls like Blissey, Eternatus, Ferrothorn, and Ho-Oh. Groudon provides sun support and benefits greatly from Heatran carrying Stealth Rock. When lacking Roar, Heatran becomes a liability versus hyper offense, since it is heavily pressured by common Pokemon such as Groudon, Marshadow and Calyrex-S; as such, anti-offense Pokemon like Choice Scarf Calyrex-S, Marshadow, and Heavy-Duty-Boots Eternatus make good teammates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====
Protect allows Heatran to accrue residual damage with Magma Storm and gain extra Leftovers recovery, but it makes Heatran significantly less useful against Pokemon like Zygarde-C and bulky Kyogre, which can switch into Magma Storm. Heatran can run a more supportive set with Magma Storm or Lava Plume, Toxic, Protect, and Stealth Rock, but it is unable to trap and remove special walls without Taunt and Earth Power.

Checks and Counters
====
**Ground-types**: Heatran's 4x weakness to Ground allows Excadrill, Groudon, and Zygarde-C to easily force it out. While Groudon and Excadrill have a hard time switching into Magma Storm, defensive Rest Zygarde-C deserves special mention as a reliable switch-in to Heatran.

**Ground-type Coverage**: Although rare, Earthquake from Ho-Oh and Necrozma-DM can immediately KO Heatran.

**Water-types**: Kyogre, Palkia, and Dracovish can tank hits from Heatran and threaten it back with powerful attacks.

**Fighting-type Coverage**: Marshadow, Pheromosa and Urshifu-S can threaten to KO Heatran, but they are unable to switch into Magma Storm. Xerneas can run Focus Blast, so having Heatran as its only check is unreliable.

**Passive Damage and Knock Off**: Heatran lacks reliable recovery and is forced to rely on Leftovers, which can be nullified by entry hazards and Knock Off.

[Overview]

  • Heatran's useful immunities to Poison and Fire moves in addition to resistances to Dragon, Steel and Fairy allow it to check a variety of Pokemon such as Eternatus, Ferrothorn, Ho-oh and Xerneas
  • It's signature move Magma Storm as well as access to Taunt enable it to trap important defensive Pokemon like Eternatus, Ho-oh lacking Earthquake, and Blissey
  • Access to strong support moves such as Stealth Rock and Toxic make it useful in making progress against bulkier teams
  • It's massive weaknesses to common types in Water, Fighting and most notably Ground force you to scout things like Ho-oh, Necrozma-Dusk Mane and Tangrowth for Earthquake and compensate for them in the Teambuilder maybe elaborate how so a bit here, with things like Ho-Oh and yvel as flying pivots
  • Heatran has no reliable recovery and is forced to rely on Leftovers, making it vulnerable to Knock Off and entry hazards, further limiting its ability to come in freely
  • Magma Storm's 8 PP and 75 accuracy can make it somewhat unreliable
  • Trapping defensive Eternatus requires three moveslots and beating Meteor Beam Eternatus and Xerneas requires Roar on top of that, leaving Heatran unable to make use of it's full toolkit
[SET]

[SET COMMENTS]

  • 244 Hp evs allows Heatran to take an extra round of Leech Seed or entry hazards and 20 Speed Evs outspeeds minus Speed natured base 90s like Groudon and Kyogre as well as uninvested Buzzwole. (-speed base 90's are pretty rare and arguably 0 speed buzzwole is uncommon too but if the speed is necessary I think buzzwole is a better additional example)
  • The trio of Magma Storm, Taunt and Earth Power are needed to trap Eternatus, leaving it room for a single support move. Toxic is useful for punishing common switchins such as Zygarde and Kyogre, Roar phases out Meteor Beam Eternatus and Geomancy Xerneas, Stealth Rock is good for further passive damage in conjunction with Magma Storm

  • Tangrowth, Lunala, Giratina and defensive Zygarde-C are all capable of dealing with the tier’s most common ground types in Groudon, Zygarde-C, and Excadrill, which is vital when using Heatran.
  • Blissey is a great defensive partner as it provides a way to deal with Kyogre as well as offensive Eternatus and Xerneas which can free up a moveslot for Toxic or Stealth Rock over Roar
  • Special attackers like Kyogre and Xerneas appreciate Heatran’s ability to pressure and remove common special walls add examples of what it removes (bliss, etern, pressures ferro)
  • Anti-offense Pokemon such as Scarf Calyrex-S, Ditto, Heavy Duty Boots Eternatus and Marshadow can offset Heatran’s relative uselessness against Hyper Offense if lacking Roar Ditto's arguably the best anti offense mon so it should be mentioned

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====
  • I think protect can get its own mention here as a 4th move option on the support set, it lets you gain passive recovery which could be good against bulkier teams and hazards which was listed as a problem multiple times but has no utility that the other moves have
  • A full support set using Lava Plume / Toxic / Protect / Stealth Rock allows Heatran to make better use of it’s utility moves, but at the opportunity cost of trapping, it’s mostly inferior.

Checks and Counters
====

  • Ground Types - Heatran’s four times weakness to ground forces it to run from STABs from Pokemon like Groudon, Excadrill and Zygarde-C. While Groudon and Excadrill have a hard time switching into Magma Storm, Defensive Zygarde-C deserves special mention as it’s resistance to fire and access to Rest allow it to shrug off Heatran completely.

  • Water Types - Kyogre, Palkia and Dracovish all take ¼ little damage from Magma Storm and can deal tons of damage in return, although none of them appreciate Toxic if they lack Rest. ig in rain it's 1/4 damage but out of rain kyogre's natural typing isn't a quad resist so changed the wording there

  • Fighting Types **Fighting-type Coverage**: Marshadow and Urshifu both threaten Heatran with STAB Close Combat, but struggle to switch into Magma Storm CC Zacian, mosa, and the more rare Focus Blast Xerneas should be mentioned

  • Coverage Moves - Carelessly switching Heatran into unscouted Earthquakes from the likes of Necrozma - Dusk Mane, Ho-oh or Tangrowth can put you very far behind very early This makes sense but feels kinda vague, just "putting you behind" can mean a lot of things so maybe reword it a tiny bit

  • Passive Damage and Knock Off - Heatran lacks reliable recovery and is forced to rely on Leftovers which can be nullified by entry hazards and knock off

First set comments paragraph might need a bit more explanation on some things so just a few bits to add here:

The trio of Magma Storm, Taunt and Earth Power are needed to trap Eternatus, one of Heatrans most important targets which leaves it room for a single support move. Toxic and Stealth Rock are both good for additional passive damage when combined with Magma Storm,
Definitely mention Taunt's ability to also out prioritize phazers like Ho-Oh and Lugia also, something that can be quite important for trapping especially Ho-Oh. Again for the next part mentioning Ho-Oh as a key Toxic target is important as well as just deterring switch ins from most things

244 Hp EVs allows Heatran to take an extra round of Leech Seed or entry hazards and the 20 Speed Evs outspeed minus Speed natured base 90 Pokémon like Kyogre and Groudon as well as the rare uninvested Buzzwole.
With mention of the EV spread like this also talk about why its fully sp.def and what it checks more reliably with that (non focus xern, etern, naga to name a few)

Because Heatran lacking Roar is mostly dead weight against offense,
Maybe add a quick mention of examples that naturally pressure it on HO such as rp Groudon, np caly, or opposing Marsh which can get pressured by scarf caly, marsh revenging, and boots etern respectively to expand on what exactly then help with

Also for the checks and counters section the formatting from the analysis is like this with the stars around the text instead of bullet points if you wanted to fix that up before GP quickly:

**Insert Threat Here**: You should describe why the Pokemon is a threat. Order threats by potency and viability.

Otherwise looks good

Heatran's Fire / Steel-typing coupled with it's ability Flash Fire grants it a pair of strong immunities to Fire- and Poison-attacks and status as well as resistances to Dragon, Fairy, Flying and Steel. This allows it to come in on a plethora of the tiers bulkier Pokéemon such as Eternatus, Ho-oh lacking Earthquake and Xerneas and wear down opposing teams with it's strong movepool. It's signature move Magma Storm is what allows it to carve out its niche in Ubers, forcing a large amounts of passive damage on switch-ins via it's Fire Spin effect which whein combinednjunction with Taunt can allow itHeatran to trap and secure KO's on many of the tiers special walls. Access to moves like Stealth Rock, Roar, and Toxic can help further with breaking down fatter teams and it frees up other Pokemon such as Groudon or Necrozma-Dusk-Mane from having to run support moves. Unfortunately, there are some important factors holding Heatran back from being a solid option for most teams, mainly it's lack of reliable recovery. This forces it to run lLeftovers which makes it especially vulnerable to Knock Off and entry hazards, both of which are extremely common andwhich limit its ability to come in. Fire / Steel also comes with nasty weaknesses to common attacking typmoves in Fighting, Ground and Water. All of these need to be accounted for in the teambuilder, usually in the form of dedicated checks to common users of theose typmoves like Blissey, Eternatus, and Zygarde-C along with Ground immunities like Yveltal and Giratina-Origin being useful pivots. Finally, Magma Storm's 75% accuracy and 8pp PP coupled with the trapping set requiring 3 moveslots minimum to trap specially defensive Eternatus make it somewhat unreliable at whatthe niche it does haveshould fullfill.

[SET COMMENTS]

This Sspecially Ddefensive focused spread provides much needed bulk against common special threats like Eternatus and Xerneas and is preferred over Evs in its Special Attack Evstat because Heatran's damage output is naturally high due to it's access to strong passive damaging options in Magma Storm, Toxic, ands well as Stealth Rock. 244 HpP EVs allows Heatran to take an extra round of Leech Seed or entry hazards and the 20 Speed EvVs outspeed uninvested Necrozma-Dusk-Mane and Buzzwole as well as minus natured base 90 Pokemon like Groudon or Zekrom. The trio of Magma Storm, Taunt, and Earth Power are needed to trap Eternatus, one of Heatrans most important targets which leagives it room for a single support move. Toxic and Stealth Rock are both good for additional passive damage when combined with Magma Storm, while Roar allows Heatran to phasze both of Meteor Beam Eternatus and Geomancy Xerneas once they've used a setup.

For teammates, Lunala, Giratina and, defensive Zygarde-C are capable of dealing with the tier's most common Ground-types in Groudon, Zygarde-C, and Excadrill which is vital when using Heatran. Another great defensive partner is Blissey, acting as a secondary special wall for thingsPokemon like offensive Eternatus and Xerneas as well as an answer for Kyogre, allowing Heatran to forego Roar. Eternatus is also worthy of mention as it combines the roles of resisting both Water and Fighting which giverants it good synergy with Heatran defensively. Offensive Pokéemon like Kyogre and Xerneas appreciate Heatran's ability to to pressure and remove common special walls like Blissey, Eternatus, Ferrothorn, and Ho-oh. Groudon provides sun support and benefits greatly from Heatran being ableility to carry Stealth Rock so it doesn't have toGroudon can forgo it. When lacking Roar, Heatran becomes a liability versus hHyper offensive teams due to it being naturally pressured by Pokéemon inherent to that playstyle like Groudon, Marshadow andswell as Calyrex-S. As such anti-offense Pokéemon like your ownChoice Scarf Calyrex-S or, Marshadow, or Heavy-Duty Boots Eternatus can help compensate that weakness.

Protect can be used in the last slot to pass turns for Magma Storm and Leftovers, but it makes it signifigantly less useful against teams that can switch into Magma Storm and less useful to its teammates compared to just running another support move. A full support set using four of Magma Storm / Lava Plume / Toxic / Protect / Stealth Rock allows Heatran to make better use of its utility moves, but at the opportunity cost of trapping, makes it’s mostly inferior.

Checks and Counters

**Ground T-types**: Heatrans four times4x weakness to ground forces it to run from STABs fromout of Pokemon like Groudon, Excadrill, and Zygarde-C. While Groudon and Excadrill have a hard time switching into Magma Storm, Ddefensive Zygarde-C deserves special mention as its resistance to fFire and access to Rest allows it to shrug off Heatran completely.

**Ground T-type Coverage**: Although rare, carelessly switching Heatran into unscouted Earthquakes from the likes ofPokemon such as Ho-oh or Necrozma-Dusk-Mane can result in it beingan instantly KO'd.

**Water T-types**: Kyogre, Palkia, and Dracovish all have 4x resistance to fFire and can hit back exceptionally hard, so giving them free turns can be risky.

**Fighting T-type Coverage**: Fighting-type attackers likesuch as Marshadow, Pheromosa, and Urshifu-S can threaten KO's with their STAB Fighting moves despite not liking Magma Storm. Xerneas can run fighting coverage within Focus Blast so having Heatran be its sole answer isn't always reliable.

**Passive Damage and Knock Off**: Heatran lacks reliable recovery and is forced to rely on Leftovers which can be nullified by entry hazards and Knock Off

You forgot some spacings here and there and Pokemon like Giratina-O, Necrozma-DM, Urshifu-S should always be in their analysis form, as analysis should be consistent with their forms based on the Pokemon which is talked about in the analysis.

A full support set using a combination of Magma Storm, Lava Plume, Toxic, Protect, and Stealth Rock allows Heatran to fully use its support movepool, but this set is unable to trap and remove special walls and is generally outclassed. Heatran can run a more supportive set with Magma Storm or Lava Plume, Toxic, Protect, and Stealth Rock, but it is unable to trap and remove special walls without Taunt and Earth Power.

Checks and Counters
====

**Ground Types Ground-types**: Heatran's 4x weakness to Ground allows Excadrill, Groudon, and Zygarde-C to easily force it out. While Groudon and Excadrill have a hard time switching into Magma Storm, defensive Rest Zygarde-C deserves special mention as it can reliably switch into Heatran due to its resistance to Fire and access to Rest a reliable switch-in to Heatran.

**Ground Type Ground-type Coverage**: Although rare, unexpected Earthquakes from Ho-Oh and Necrozma-DM can immediately KO Heatran.(add period)

**Water Types Water-types**: Kyogre, Palkia, and Dracovish all have 4x resistance to Fire and can hit back exceptionally hard can tank hits from Heatran and threaten it back with powerful attacks.

**Fighting Type Fighting-type Coverage**: Marshadow, Pheromosa, and Urshifu-S,(RC) can threaten to KO Heatran, but they are unable to switch into Magma Storm. Xerneas can run Focus Blast, so having Heatran as its only check is unreliable.

**Passive Damage and Knock Off**: Heatran lacks reliable recovery and is forced to rely on Leftovers, which can be nullified by entry hazards and Knock Off.
