[OVERVIEW]
Heliolisk is a prominent special attacker because of its great Special Attack and Speed and useful immunities to Water and Ghost, which let it take on common Water-types like Vaporeon, Mantine, Starmie, and Shell Smash Blastoise and pivot into Choice-locked Ghost-types like Golurk and Decidueye. Heliolisk can also run multiple sets, like Choice Specs to break through Electric-resistant Pokemon like Celebi and Guzzlord and Choice Scarf to outspeed Salazzle, +2 Modest Blastoise, and Choice Scarf Passimian. Its coverage from Hyper Voice, Surf, and Grass Knot also gives many ways to target checks like Mudsdale, Rhydon, and Decidueye. However, its poor defenses can leave it revenge killed by physical attackers and priority users like Sirfetch'd, Toxicroak, and Absol, and other fast Pokemon like Choice Scarf Rotom-C, Tauros, and Salazzle can outspeed it if it does not run Choice Scarf. Furthermore, Heliolisk faces competition with Rotom-C as an Electric-type because of its ability to check Ground-types with STAB Leaf Storm and Levitate.

Set Details
====
Dark Pulse hits Celebi and Ghost-types that are resistant or immune to Heliolisk's STAB options like Decidueye, Golurk, and Dhelmise. Alternatively, Grass Knot KOes Ground-types like Mudsdale, Rhydon, and Golurk. Choice Specs helps Heliolisk take on Electric-resistant Pokemon like Dragalge and Celebi, giving it an easier time getting past defensive Pokemon like Goodra and Diancie, while Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternative for fewer prediction-reliant plays.
Heliolisk should be paired with Pokemon immune to Ground like Xatu, Talonflame, and Mantine to switch into Ground-types like Mudsdale. Xatu and Talonflame can also form a VoltTurn core with it to bring it in safely due to its poor defenses. Drapion and Braviary make great partners to check Grass-types like Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Celebi. Entry hazard support from the likes of Bronzong, Copperajah, Diancie, Garbodor, and Dragalge also wears down foes. Furthermore, the former three Pokemon check Dragon-type threats like Dragalge and Goodra for Heliolisk.

Grass Knot provides necessary coverage for Ground-types like Mudsdale, but Dark Pulse is useful if being walled by Decidueye and Dhelmise is undesirable.
Choice Scarf Heliolisk is usually used on teams that need extra support against offensive Water-types like Shell Smash Blastoise and Life Orb Starmie. Pokemon that are immune to Ground like Levitate Bronzong and Xatu are appreciated to check Pokemon like Mudsdale and Rhydon. Dragalge, Talonflame, and Xatu form a pivot core with Heliolisk and provide it with opportunities to come in safely. Dark-types like Guzzlord, Drapion, and Scrafty provide utility with Knock Off and check Grass-types like Decidueye and Dhelmise. Powerful physical attackers like Sirfetch'd, Golurk, and Glastrier make great teammates to take care of specially defensive Pokemon like Copperajah and Dragalge. Entry hazard support from the likes of Bronzong, Garbodor, and Diancie also helps to wear down foes and give Heliolisk an easier time cleaning late-game.

Other Options
====
Focus Blast can be used to hit Copperajah and Guzzlord, but this causes Heliolisk to be walled by Golurk, Dhelmise, and Decidueye. U-turn is an alternative over Volt Switch on its Choice Scarf set to not lose momentum against Ground-types while also slightly chipping Grass-types.
Checks and Counters
====
**Ground-types**: Ground-types like Golurk, Rhydon, and Mudsdale can OHKO Heliolisk with Earthquake. However, Golurk and Mudsdale have to be wary of Surf and Grass Knot.
**Grass-types**: Celebi, Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Rotom-C resist Heliolisk's Electric-type STAB moves; additionally, the former three can recover on Heliolisk with Recover, Roost, and Synthesis.
**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Dragalge, Guzzlord, and Goodra are extremely bulky, letting them tank Heliolisk's attacks.
**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Passimian, Tauros, and Starmie can outspeed and revenge kill Choice Specs Heliolisk. Priority users like Sirfetch'd, Toxicroak, and Absol can also revenge kill Heliolisk after chip damage.
**Residual Damage**: Without Heavy-Duty Boots, Heliolisk is worn down tremendously by entry hazards, and it's vulnerable to Toxic poison from bulky Water-types like Mantine and Vaporeon.
