[OVERVIEW]

Hippowdon's great bulk, solid defensive typing, and reliable recovery allow it to check prominent offensive threats such as Dragapult, Heatran, and Excadrill. Hippowdon is one of the defining components of sand balance teams due to Sand Stream and provides further support by setting up Stealth Rock and checking key threats like Dragapult and Tapu Koko. However, Hippowdon's susceptibility to being pivoted against by these Pokemon makes it easy to wear down and forces it to switch out. It also faces stiff competition as a defensive Ground-type from Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Swampert, and Gastrodon; however, Hippowdon manages to offset this due to reliable recovery in Slack Off and access to Stealth Rock. Additionally, as Hippowdon is a passive Stealth Rock setter, it is difficult to keep its entry hazards on the field against common entry hazard removers such as Corviknight, since it can only use Whirlwind or Toxic to dissuade them. Hippowdon is also vulnerable to entry hazards and status, which make it much harder to remain healthy while checking offensive threats.

[SET]
name: Special Wall
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Slack Off
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Toxic

ability: Sand Stream
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Hippowdon functions as a sturdy check to special attackers such as Dragapult, Tapu Koko, and Volcarona and provides helpful utility with Toxic and Stealth Rock to support its teammates. Toxic allows Hippowdon to punish non-Poison-immune Flying-types that attempt to remove its entry hazards, such as Zapdos and Mandibuzz, and other vulnerable walls such as Tangrowth, Slowking, and Swampert. Whirlwind is also a viable option, allowing Hippowdon to phaze foes it cannot do much against, such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight. Whirlwind can also be used to prevent Hippowdon from being used as setup fodder by setup sweepers like Clefable and Volcarona. Leftovers provides Hippowdon with passive recovery and helps alleviate pressure from offensive threats by letting it waste less turns healing with Slack Off. 8 Attack EVs ensure Hippowdon OHKOes Excadrill with Earthquake. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents residual damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes, although the passive recovery from Leftovers is in most cases too good to pass down.

Hippowdon's Electric immunity and access to reliable recovery give it defensive synergy with partners on more defensive teams and pivots such as Toxapex and Clefable; it helps the team from being overwhelmed by Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko. Pressure users such as Corviknight and Moltres are great partners alongside Hippowdon, as they can wear down the PP of Defog and make it much easier for Hippowdon’s Stealth Rock to stay up long-term - they can also provide entry hazard removal so that Hippowdon doesn’t get worn down by entry hazards. Sand Rush Excadrill can utilize Hippowdon's sand to clean late-game after a Swords Dance while also providing entry hazard removal. Knock Off and status absorbers like Clefable and Reuniclus are useful if Hippowdon is being utilized on defensive teams, as they provide the team with much more longevity in the long term. Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Tapu Fini are greatly appreciated; Toxapex can handle Weavile and Toxic Melmetal, while Tapu Fini can prevent status from crippling Hippowdon, although this also prevents Hippowdon from using Toxic against grounded Pokemon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Sand Force can be run instead of Sand Stream to prevent sand damage from being detrimental to Hippowdon's teammates and ensure they gain recovery from Leftovers. A physically defensive set can be used instead of the specially defensive variant to check prominent physical threats such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Melmetal. This physical set can often run Rocky Helmet to chip physical attackers and pivots such as Melmetal and Tapu Koko, although Hippowdon should be wary of Toxic.

Checks and Counters
====

**Corviknight and Skarmory**: Hippowdon hates facing Corviknight and Skarmory due to its inability to do anything against them, especially if Hippowdon is not carrying Whirlwind. Skarmory can then use Hippowdon to set up Spikes, while Corviknight can remove entry hazards with Defog. At best, Hippowdon can use Whirlwind against them or Earthquake as they heal with Roost, but it fails to sufficiently weaken them.

**Residual Damage**: Hippowdon is easily worn down by status and entry hazards, which prevent it from checking Pokemon as effectively as it would like.

**Ice-types**: Kyurem and Weavile threaten Hippowdon with their powerful Ice-type STAB moves, although they cannot come in on a potential Earthquake or Toxic.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Kartana wall Hippowdon and force it out, as they easily tank Earthquake and shrug off its coverage moves. Ferrothorn can take advantage of Hippowdon to set up Spikes, while Rillaboom and Kartana can pressure Hippowdon with their STAB attacks.

**Defensive Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Slowbro and Slowking threaten Hippowdon with Scald and apply pressure with Future Sight, while Tapu Fini does not fear Earthquake, prevents status with Misty Terrain, and can remove Stealth Rock if it chooses to run Defog.

Hey there :afrostar:
Just a QCAM check, implement what you want, up to you and QC.
Comments in orange
insert hippowdon :hippowdon:

[Overview]

- Hippowdon has great 108 / 118 / 72 bulk and a solid defensive typing that together allow it to check prominent physical threats such as Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Zeraora. I dont know about the Tyranitar mention here, they usually carry Toxic and that can be very bad for Hippowdon. I know theres also a Choice Banded set but those sometimes utilise Ice Punch. You could probably mention something like Tapu Koko instead.
- Its bulk as well as access to reliable recovery in Slack Off allows it to make good use of support options such as Stealth Rock, Toxic and Whirlwind.
- However, Hippowdon is held back by its low Speed, forcing it to typically take an attack before being able to reciprocate any means of damage. I dont think this is important to mention since Hippowdon is generally supposed to take a hit since it is a defensive wall, dealing damage is not its strong suit even with it's relatively high attack stat. For a drawback you could probably mention its weakness to Toxic (I know it's very obvious but it can be important to mention seeing as pokemon that Hippowdon can check otherwise like LandorusT, Excadrill and Tyranitar often carry Toxic)
- Additionally, as Hippowdon is a passive Stealth Rock setter, it can find it difficult to keep its hazards on the field against common entry hazard removers such as Corviknight and Tapu Fini. It is also vulnerable to Taunt and can be used as setup fodder if not running Whirlwind. Tapu Fini isnt a very common Defog user, it can force Hippowdon out but Tapu Fini is also hurt by Sandstorm chip, negating it's only form of recovery. You can probably just leave it to Corviknight since most other Defog users are afraid of Toxic.

[SET]
name: Physical Wall
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Slack Off
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Toxic / Whirlwind
item: Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
ability: Sand Stream
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 Def

[SET COMMENTS]

- Toxic allows Hippowdon to prevent threats such as Landorus-T, Zapdos, and Slowking from switching in as frequently. You could rephrase this as " Toxic allows Hippowdon to punish common switch ins like x y z", as they can still switch in frequently they just lose longevity.
- Whirlwind is also a viable option, being able to dispatch foes it can’t do much against such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight. It can also be used to prevent itself from being used as setup against Clefable and Kyurem. You can rreplace Kyurem with Volcarona since, Hippowdon never wants to stay in against Kyurem.
- 8 Attack EVs ensure Hippowdon OHKOes Excadrill with Earthquake. Not true, it's a 93% chance, this is only true after Stealth Rock damage, but that can also be accomplished with 0 attack EVs. These are most probably just leftover EVs.
- Leftovers can be used to provide passive recovery and delays Hippowdon’s usage of Slack Off.
- Rocky Helmet is an option to punish Rapid Spin attempts from Excadrill. It can also be used to chip physical attackers and pivots such as Melmetal and Tapu Koko, although it should be wary of Toxic.

- Hippowdon is one of the defining components of sand balance teams and provides a lot of support either setting up Stealth Rock or checking key threats in Zeraora and Landorus-T.
- Sand Rush Excadrill is a great teammate that is further augmented from Hippowdon's sand support to sweep late-game after a Swords Dance. Excadrill isnt really a sweeper, it usually cleans up weakened victims late game.
- Hippowdon’s immunity to Electric-type attacks and access to reliable recovery give it defensive synergy with partners on bulky offense teams such as Clefable, Toxapex, and Skarmory; it helps the team from being overwhelmed by Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko respectively. Mixed Defensive Clefable does a fine job at switching into both of those threats, although not reliably. You can probably mention Mandibuzz instead.
- Defog users are helpful to prevent entry hazard damage wearing at Hippowdon’s precious HP. Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Zapdos are both good options that not only remove hazards but can prevent Hippowdon from being chipped and pivoted on as frequently. You could mention here, how Hippowdon offers them a valuable electric immunity. Actually you could probably merge the two points now that I think about it.
- They also provide a key resistance in Grass which is useful against Pokemon like Rillaboom and Kartana which can take advantage of it without them. Is there any reason why this is a separate point and not part of the previous one?
- Knock Off and Status absorbers are useful if Hippowdon is being utilized on defensive teams - this allows the team to mitigate the damage lost from would-be items such as Leftovers and Heavy Duty Boots. Teammates like Clefable, Toxapex, and Reuniclus pair up well for this reason.
- Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Tapu Fini are greatly appreciated as they can deal with Pokemon that hippowdon struggles with. What pokemon?
- Toxapex can handle the likes of Weavile, Calm Mind Clefable, and Volcarona while Tapu Fini can prevent status from crippling Hippowdon although this also prevents Hippowdon from using Toxic. Ok you mention it here but, this is untrue and both Calm Mind Clefable and Volcarona carry supereffective coverage for Toxapex, Weavile is good though.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

- Heavy Duty Boots can be run to prevent residual damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes; although the passive recovery from Leftovers and ability to wear down physical attackers with Rocky Helmet is in most cases too good to pass down. Not QC, but you should probably include the specially defensive set here as it's been rising recently and can check more upcoming threats like Heatran and Tapu Koko as well as soft check Volcarona. Again ask QC before including it.

Checks and Counters
====

**Corviknight**: Hippowdon hates coming up against Corviknight due to its inability to do anything against it - especially if Hippowdon is using a Toxic variant. At best, Hippowdon can use Whirlwind against Corviknight but fails to do damage against it. You can mention Skarmory as well, it can also set up Spikes on Hippowdon.

**Strong Special Attackers**: While Hippowdon’s has very good physical bulk, it’s special bulk leaves much to be desired - being completely vulnerable to strong special attackers such as Heatran, Tapu Lele, and Hydreigon.

**Residual Damage**: Hippowdon is easily worn down by status aliments such as burn and poison, as well as entry hazards which prevent it from checking Pokemon as effectively as it would like.

**Ice-types**: Kyurem and Weavile are capable of threatening Hippowdon with their powerful Ice-STAB moves, although Weavile does not appreciate being chipped by Rocky Helmet if it chooses to use Triple Axel.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Kartana can wall Hippowdon and force it out, as they tank Earthquake easily and can shrug off its common coverage moves. Ferrothorn can use it as a opportunity to set up Spikes, while Rillaboom and Kartana also can pressure Hippowdon with their STAB attack.

** Defensive Water-types**: Water-types threaten Hippowdon with their super effective STAB attacks. Bulkier Water-types such as Slowbro and Slowking can threaten Hippowdon with Scald while applying pressure with Future Sight while Tapu Fini doesn’t fear Earthquake, prevents status with Misty Terrain, and can remove Stealth Rock if it chooses to run Defog.

[Overview]

- Hippowdon has great 108 / 118 / 72 actual numbers aren't necessary bulk and a solid defensive typing that together allow it to check prominent physical threats such as Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Zeraora. see below at the set as for what to change regarding the mons it can check
- Its bulk as well as access to reliable recovery in Slack Off allows it to make good use of support options such as Stealth Rock, Toxic and Whirlwind.
- However, Hippowdon is held back by its low Speed, forcing it to typically take an attack before being able to reciprocate any means of damage. this is kind of universal to most defensive pokemon, and too general to mention in this analysis. as for drawbacks, in addition to the part you mention in the sentence below, i would mention hippo's susceptibility when being pivoted on by things like tapu koko or pult and forced to switch (basically unrecoverable damage as they switch into a different wallbreaker, which is super annoying especially when it's for mons you want to switch into such as the two i referenced), and also its difficulty in healing off damage from entry hazards and status damage
- Additionally, as Hippowdon is a passive Stealth Rock setter, it can find it difficult to keep its hazards on the field against common entry hazard removers such as Corviknight and Tapu Fini. It is also vulnerable to Taunt and can be used as setup fodder if not running Whirlwind.

sorry for not clarifying this in pms earlier - qc team has agreed on specially defensive hippo as our main set here. you can mention pdef and its targets in set details, but the main focus here should be on spdef: to help you out, most important targets here should be dragapult, koko, zapdos, volc, as well as soft checking tran, gking, nidoking, torn

[SET COMMENTS]

- what specifically does spdef hippo check in this metagame? you don't really mention this and just dive straight into the set itself
- Toxic allows Hippowdon to prevent threats such as Landorus-T, Zapdos, and Slowking from switching in as frequently.
- Whirlwind is also a viable option, being able to dispatch foes it can’t do much against such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight. It can also be used to prevent itself from being used as setup against Clefable and Kyurem.
- hippo is a decent rocks setter because of its ability to pressure non-corv/skarm defoggers with toxic - mention this
- 8 Attack EVs ensure Hippowdon OHKOes Excadrill with Earthquake.
- Leftovers can be used to provide passive recovery and delays Hippowdon’s usage of Slack Off.
- Rocky Helmet is an option to punish Rapid Spin attempts from Excadrill. It can also be used to chip physical attackers and pivots such as Melmetal and Tapu Koko, although it should be wary of Toxic.

revise this first paragraph with focus on spdef ^ and i will take another look. mention pdef at the end of it as an alternative, and be sure to mention pdef's role and targets briefly. teammates should be somewhat similar, so very little in the 2nd paragraph should need to be changed besides what i have edited

- Hippowdon’s immunity to Electric-type attacks and access to reliable recovery give it defensive synergy with partners on more defensive bulky offense bo usually relies on more offensive defensive cores, if that makes sense - they utilize things like lando, slowking, torn that can help out with momentum. hippo doesn't really fit on these teams because of its passiveness, and is usually seen on fatter balance/semistall/stall teams teams such as Clefable, Toxapex, and Skarmory; it helps the team from being overwhelmed by Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko respectively.
- Defog users are helpful to prevent entry hazard damage wearing at Hippowdon’s precious HP. Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Zapdos are both good options that not only remove hazards but can prevent Hippowdon from being chipped and pivoted on as frequently. mention how exca, which is already a good partner for hippo as you mentioned above, can help by spinning for it
- They also provide a key resistance in Grass which is useful against Pokemon like Rillaboom and Kartana which can take advantage of it without them.
- Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Tapu Fini are greatly appreciated as they can deal with Pokemon that hippowdon struggles with. combine this sentence with the next to help it read more easily

At best, Hippowdon can use Whirlwind against Corviknight but fails to do damage against it. skarm can set up spikes for free vs it as well

**Strong Special Attackers**: While Hippowdon’s has very good physical bulk, it’s special bulk leaves much to be desired - being completely vulnerable to strong special attackers such as Heatran, Tapu Lele, and Hydreigon. less necessary since we're focusing on a spdef set now

**Residual Damage**: Hippowdon is easily worn down by status aliments such as burn and poison, as well as entry hazards which prevent it from checking Pokemon as effectively as it would like.

- Hippowdon has great bulk and a solid defensive typing that together allow it to check prominent physical threats such as Excadrill and Zeraora. considering we're a mixed/special wall now, i would prefer to see both physical and special mons listed here. especially important and not mentioned anywhere in this analysis is its ability to soft check heatran
- Its bulk as well as access to reliable recovery in Slack Off allows it to make good use of support options such as Stealth Rock, Toxic and Whirlwind.
- you can mention here the team archetypes that hippo fits best on so readers better understand its niche in the meta and what it can do for a team
- However, Hippowdon's susceptibility to being pivoted on Pokemon such as Dragapult and Tapu Koko leaves it forced to switch out and is easily worn down.
- Additionally, as Hippowdon is a passive Stealth Rock setter, it can find it difficult to keep its hazards on the field against common entry hazard removers such as Corviknight which it can only Whirlwind to offset its presence.

- Leftovers can be used to provide passive recovery and delays Hippowdon’s usage of Slack Off. don't like how this is worded. i understand what you mean here, you can just say that it makes switching into offensive mons easier, and gives it more turns to use moves like rocks or toxic instead of slack, which is slightly clearer than what you said
- A physically defensive set can be run to check prominent physical threats such as Landorus-T and Melmetal.
- put the 8 atk calc back for exca: 8 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 362-428 (100.2 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO vs 0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 360-426 (99.7 - 118%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
- Rocky Helmet can be also be used on physically defensive variants to punish Rapid Spin attempts from Excadrill. this is a more secondary use. mention punishing physical attackers and pivots before spinblocking It can also be used to chip physical attackers and pivots such as Melmetal and Tapu Koko, although it should be wary of Toxic.

- Hippowdon is one of the defining components of sand balance teams and provides a lot of support either setting up Stealth Rock or checking key threats in Dragapult and Tapu Koko.

- Hippowdon’s immunity to Electric-type attacks and access to reliable recovery give it defensive synergy with partners on more defensive teams and pivots such as Toxapex, Clefable, Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Mandibuzz; put clef back here, as it is an important part of these defensive cores and can be broken through super easily by both zera and koko. torn is traditionally more of a bo mon and shouldn't be included with these mons it helps the team from being overwhelmed by Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko respectively. The latter also provide a key resistance in Grass which is useful against Pokemon like Rillaboom and Kartana which can take advantage of it without them. The aforementioned Excadrill can also be used to help remove entry hazards.

The aforementioned Excadrill can also be used to help remove entry hazards. move this to first sentence of paragraph; i feel like hippo's defensive niche on balance/stall teams is more important than its role as a sand setter for dedicated exca sand teams
- Knock Off and Status absorbers are useful if Hippowdon is being utilized on defensive teams - this allows the team to mitigate the damage lost from would-be items such as Leftovers and Heavy Duty Boots. Teammates like Clefable, and Reuniclus pair up well for this reason.
- Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Tapu Fini are greatly appreciated as they can deal with Pokemon that hippowdon struggles with. Toxapex can handle the likes of Weavile and Toxic Melmetal while Tapu Fini can prevent status from crippling Hippowdon although this also prevents Hippowdon from using Toxic.

- Heavy Duty Boots can be run to prevent residual damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes; although the passive recovery from Leftovers and ability to wear down physical attackers with Rocky Helmet is in most cases too good to pass down.
- Sand Force can be run instead of Sand Stream to prevent sand damage from being detrimental to its teammates and ensure they gain recovery from Leftovers.

Checks and Counters

**Corviknight and Skarmory*: Hippowdon hates facing against Corviknight or Skarmory due to its inability to do anything against them - especially if Hippowdon is using a Toxic variant. Skarmory can then use Hippowdon as a way to set up Spikes while Corviknight can Defog its hazards away. At best, Hippowdon can use Whirlwind against them but fails to do damage against them.

**Residual Damage**: Hippowdon is easily worn down by status aliments such as burn and poison, as well as entry hazards which prevent it from checking Pokemon as effectively as it would like.

**Ice-types**: Kyurem and Weavile are capable of threatening Hippowdon with their powerful Ice-STAB moves, although Weavile does not appreciate being chipped by Rocky Helmet if it chooses to use Triple Axel. mention that they can't switch in safely due to big damage from eq or toxic

[Overview]

- Hippowdon has great bulk and a solid defensive typing that together allow it to check prominent offensive threats such as Heatran, Tornadus-T, and Excadrill. Tornadus-T not so much. Maybe Landorus-T/Dragapult would be stronger, more relevant examples.
- Its bulk as well as its access to reliable recovery in Slack Off allows it to make good use of support options such as Stealth Rock, Toxic, and Whirlwind. I feel like I'd prefer to see the mention of longevity in the above bullet point. This bullet point isn't really necessary I feel
- Hippowdon is one of the defining components of sand balance teams due to its access to Sand Stream and provides further a lot of support by setting up Stealth Rock or the checking of key threats in Dragapult or Tapu Koko.
- However, Hippowdon's susceptibility to being pivoted against by these Pokemon leaves it forced to switch out and is easily worn down. Common weaknesses leave it prone as well, so that's typically how it's forced out, if anything.
- It also faces stiff competition as a defensive Ground-type against other Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Swampert, and Gastrodon; however, Hippowdon manages to offset this due to reliable recovery in Slack Off as well as providing Stealth Rock.
- Additionally, as Hippowdon is a passive Stealth Rock setter, it can find it difficult to keep its hazards on the field against common entry hazard removers such as Corviknight as it can only Whirlwind to inflict any real harm. This is kind of misleading and makes it seem as though Whirlwind is the only option against a majority of Defoggers, when Toxic affects every other one except for Corviknight.
- It is also vulnerable to entry hazards and status damage which makes it much harder to remain healthy while checking offensive threats.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Hippowdon functions as a sturdy check to special attackers such as Dragapult, Tapu Koko, and Volcarona as well as providing useful utility in Toxic and Stealth Rock to support its teammates.
- Toxic allows Hippowdon to primarily punish non-Poison immune Flying-types that attempt to remove its hazards such as Zapdos and Mandibuzz as well as other Pokemon such as Dragapult and Slowking. Landorus-T is an important target as well.
- Whirlwind is also a viable option, being able to dispatch foes it can’t do much against such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight. It can also be used to prevent itself from being used as setup fodder against Pokemon sweepers like Clefable and Volcarona.
- Leftovers can be used to provide passive recovery and allows Hippowdon to check offensive threats easier and give it more turns to utilize moves such as Toxic and Stealth Rock. Weirdly specific, just saying that it alleviates pressure from it to spend turns healing with Slack Off gets the point across much better.
- 8 Attack EVs ensure Hippowdon OHKOes Excadrill with Earthquake.
- A physically defensive set can be run to check prominent physical threats such as Landorus-T and Melmetal.
- Rocky Helmet is a option to chip physical attackers and pivots such as Melmetal, Garchomp, and Tapu Koko, although it should be wary of Toxic. What? Also Garchomp doesn't really care about Rocky Helmet since Earthquake is non-contact. It can also be used on physically defensive variants to punish Rapid Spin attempts from Excadrill.

- Hippowdon’s immunity to Electric-type attacks and access to reliable recovery give it defensive synergy with partners on more defensive teams and pivots such as Toxapex, Clefable, Corviknight, and Mandibuzz; it helps the team from being overwhelmed by Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko respectively. The latter two Pokemon also provide a key resistance in Grass which is useful against Pokemon like Rillaboom and Kartana which can take advantage of Hippowdon.
- Sand Rush Excadrill is a great teammate that is further augmented from Hippowdon's sand support to clean up late-game after a Swords Dance. It can also be used help remove entry hazards.
- Knock Off and Status absorbers are useful if Hippowdon is being utilized on defensive teams - this allows the team to mitigate the damage lost from would-be items such as Leftovers and Heavy Duty Boots. What exactly does "would-be items" mean? I agree with the sentiment of this bullet point but I just don't really get what you're conveying with this part specifically. Teammates like Clefable, and Reuniclus pair up well for this reason.
- Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Tapu Fini are greatly appreciated as they can deal with Pokemon that hippowdon struggles with. Toxapex can handle the likes of Weavile and Toxic Melmetal while Tapu Fini can prevent status from crippling Hippowdon although this also prevents Hippowdon from using Toxic against grounded Pokemon. I think these two sentences should be condensed in some way, since the first sentence ending with "that Hippowdon struggles with" feels really vague and uninformative.

** Defensive Water-types**: Water-types threaten Hippowdon with their super effective STAB attacks. Too vague. I think mentioning Scald particularly would be prominent here as a burn is a yikes for Hippowdon to deal with, while also hating its weakness to it. Bulkier Water-types such as Slowbro and Slowking can threaten Hippowdon with Scald while applying pressure with Future Sight; on the other hand, Tapu Fini doesn’t fear Earthquake, prevents status with Misty Terrain, and can remove Stealth Rock if it chooses to run Defog.

pressure users have to be mentioned as teammates because you have to pp stall defog to keep entry hazards up with hippowdon. it is really important honestly, pretty surprised that wasn't included already. spikes users are nice for this too; they also force out extra defogs and make it easier to keep hazards up in long term games. this especially is important because hippowdon is a staple on entry hazard stacking teams!!
