HITMONCHAN BAD

[OVERVIEW]

On paper, Hitmonchan seems to be a solid Pokemon. It can pose a threat late-game with Agility, nabbing a 2HKO with Submission on the likes of Clefable and Dewgong, and can also fish for freezes with Ice Punch. However, Hitmonchan is among the worst fully-evolved Pokemon in RBY, due to its extremely bad Special, mediocre Defense, weakness to Psychic, and lack of any real offense. It struggles to make any progress versus Poliwhirl, Mr. Mime, Charizard, and Moltres and is 2HKOed by the many special attackers of the tier while not dealing much damage in return. It is also completely outclassed by other similarly unviable Fighting-types in RBY NU, such as Machamp, and should never be considered for any serious team. Many other physical threats such as Fearow and Pinsir are much better options for a team.

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Submission
move 2: Body Slam
move 3: Agility
move 4: Counter / Ice Punch

[SET COMMENTS]

Submission is the best STAB move Hitmonchan has, and can 2HKO Pokemon such as Clefable. Body Slam can spread paralysis onto Pokemon such as Nidoking, making Hitmonchan more self-sufficient. Agility can help if Hitmonchan is paralyzed, giving it its Speed back and letting it pose a late game threat. Counter allows Hitmonchan to deter use of Body Slam from the likes of Clefable, but Ice Punch can be used instead to damage Exeggcute or try to freeze opposing Pokemon.

Hitmonchan has a few other options; Seismic Toss deals the most possible damage to Nidoking. Alternatively, Toxic can stop AgiliWrap Dragonair, and stopping Fire Spin users such as Rapidash, as Toxic's damage outdamages their partial trapping moves. Mimic could be used to fish for an opposing Pokémon’s move. However, many Pokemon easily exploit Mimic by using special moves Hitmonchan does miserable damage with, making it inconsistent. While Fire Punch and Thunder Punch may seem enticing, Hitmonchan's Special is awful, making them almost unusable. Pokemon that can deal with special attackers, such as Clefable, generally make good partners for Hitmonchan.

" It is also completely outclassed by other similarly unviable Fighting-types in RBY UU, such as Machamp and Primeape, and should never be considered for any serious team. "
"but Ice Punch can be used instead to damage Dragonite and Haunter or try to freeze an opposing Pokemon." <-- Leftovers from UU analysis need to be cleaned up

"and Toxic can stop Dragonair from sweeping with Agility + Wrap." <-- Also it's nice to cripple Fire Spin users, which obviously hate Toxic almost as much as Dragonair does.

Ice Punch's damage output is kinda garbage, at best matching Hitmonchan's other moves (it hits Nidoking as hard as Body Slam, and Exeggcute as hard as Seismic Toss), but I guess freeze chance is the only real reason to even pretend to give Hitmonchan a look in NU.

I know this Pokemon is comically bad, but this analysis is lacking in content. Like, really lacking. Read what I say carefully and try to expand on it. You're hyperfixated on what this Pokemon does poorly, to the point of forgetting what it can do. Is it little? Yeah, but we need to be objective.

[OVERVIEW]

Hitmonchan is an absolutely terrible Pokemon due to its extremely bad Special, mediocre Defense, weakness to Psychic, and lack of any real offense. It struggles to make any progress versus Poliwhirl, Mr. Mime, Charizard, and Moltres, and it is 2HKOed by the many special attackers of the tier while not dealing much damage in return. It is also completely outclassed by other similarly unviable Fighting-types in RBY NU, such as Machamp and Primeape, and should never be considered for any serious team. (Mention other physical attackers that are viable as well, eg. Fearow and Pinsir, the latter of which uses similar moves to Hitmonchan. People need to be given an alternative to this monstrosity.)

You should note what Hitmonchan itself can actually do. Yeah this thing is arguably a worse Machop or Mankey, but we need to be objective. It can at least use Agility to pose a late-game threat and has Ice Punch to fish for freezes. I'd say write these in first with a preposition like "While [these traits] seem enticing, Hitmonchan is among the worst fully evolved Pokemon in RBY as a whole.". That should be enough to scare away would-be Hitmonchan users.

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker

move 2: Body Slam
move 3: Agility
move 4: Counter / Ice Punch

[SET COMMENTS]

Submission is the best STAB move Hitmonchan has, and it’s useful for Pokemon such as Clefable and Golem. (List XHKOs or something rather than something vague like "useful for", it doesn't explain anything) Body Slam can spread paralysis onto Pokemon such as Wigglytuff and (ahem) Nidoking, making Hitmonchan more self-sufficient. Agility can help if Hitmonchan is paralyzed, giving it its Speed back and letting it pose a threat late-game. Counter allows Hitmonchan to deter use of Body Slam, (from who? give examples.) but Ice Punch can be used instead to damage Exeggcute or try to freeze an opposing Pokemon.

Hitmonchan has a few other options; Seismic Toss deals the most possible damage to Nidoking and Gastly. Alternatively, Toxic can stop AgiliWrap Dragonair and Fire Spin users like Rapidash from sweeping, as Toxic's damage outdamages their partial trapping moves. with Agility + Wrap, as well as stopping Fire Spin users. However, Hitmonchan generally allows Dragonair to get an Agility and Wrap off easily. (That's why you use Toxic...) While Fire Punch and Thunder Punch may seem enticing, Hitmonchan's Special is awful, making them almost unusable.

You should probably expand the second paragraph with some usage tips. Something like "If you must use Hitmonchan, it's best to bring it in late-game when its checks have been removed". I know that basically means using it when there's like one mon left or something, but this analysis is lacking a lot of meat. There's definitely more you can go over. You could maybe suggest Mimic in OO in a desperate bid to get a functional move, but eh...

Primeape is a bit different from the other Fighting-types in that its different enough to theoretically have a niche (Having the best coverage and weirdly fast Speed), so id change the example to Hitmonlee. Lowkey think Primeape is viable too though.

However, this can be easily abused by many Pokemon, making it an inconsistent option as a whole.
May want to elaborate HOW these pokemon are abusing it.

Overall good job. HMU on discord when you implement these two things and ill edit in a QC.
